BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

LNS Turbo UK Ltd crowned ‘Business of the Year’ Mark Scanlan, Operations Manger of LNS Turbo UK commented: “To win the Business of the Year Award is a fantastic recognition of how we are consistently changing the face of manufacturing in the region and promoting Yorkshire as a centre of excellence in industry”

Barnsley based LNS Turbo UK Ltd triumphed at the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards ceremony on Friday, 19th October, after winning two awards including the highly coveted title of Business of Year. LNS Turbo UK was launched in Wombwell in 1998, as a UK base for US parent company Turbo Inc for the design and manufacture of swarf conveyors and coolant management systems to sell into the UK and Continental Europe. In 2002 Turbo Inc was acquired by LNS a Swiss Bar Feed manufacturer, to expand its product portfolio, resulting in a sustained period of growth as the business, increasing its share of the UK and European markets. In a very short period of time LNS Turbo has transformed itself from a fabrication workshop into a “world class”

manufacturing facility, supporting the UK market whilst expanding in Europe. Over the last two years, the business has made major investments to create process flow through the factory from goods inwards to shipping, allowing development of the manufacturing areas, along with a keen focus on training staff to add further value to the LNS UK journey.

“LNS are proud to have been operating in Barnsley for 20 years this year, and with the adaptability and commitment of our colleagues we are well placed to meet the demands of our market and push forward with our expansion throughout Europe” “The culture of LNS is one where everyone strives for improvements, both individually and collectively. We don’t believe in saying ‘this is the way things we do things’, we say ‘how can we do this better?”

CHARITY OF THE YEAR

Molly’s Fund recognised as Charity of the Year Charity winners, Molly’s Fund receive a £3,000 prize donation and become the Chamber Charity of the Year. The Charity, Molly’s Fund, was set up by the Hurst family when they lost Molly to suicide in May 2017. They realised they needed to take action and ensure more help was available for young people to support mental health and wellbeing. The fund was set up in memory of Molly, in conjunction with South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF), to help prevent anyone from experiencing their loss.

Ruth Willis of SYCF commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to accept this award. This prestigious award will enable us to raise awareness of the ongoing work of Molly’s Fund. “The fund supports the much needed mental health and wellbeing organisations for young people in our communities, to help put a stop to these preventable deaths.

“Winning the Charity of the Year award is a powerful legacy in memory of Molly.” The latest figures from the Mental Health Foundation show something startling. The number one cause of death in young people aged 20 to 34 in the UK is suicide. These unsettling figures tell us that more must be done to prevent young people from reaching the point of taking their own lives.

SALUTE TO BUSINESS

Businesses celebrate milestone Anniversaries Four local businesses receive Salute to Business awards at the awards ceremony for reaching a significant number of years in business.

Firstly, celebrating 15 years in business is Jeremy Neal Independent Funeral Directors. Jeremy comes from a family passionate about investing in and putting back into the community. The longest serving, qualified funeral director in Maltby, Jeremy is also heavily involved in the community, having been a school governor for many years, a hospice trustee and a supporter of local churches and charities.

The third salute to business was presented to Russell Richardson & Sons, who celebrates 40 years in business. Established in 1978 as a paper recycler Russell Richardson has evolved into one of the UK’s leading document management and confidential shredding companies. Still bearing the name of the founder, they are very proud of their focus on customer service, staff empowerment and job satisfaction and the fair treatment and loyalty shown to suppliers.

The second salute to business was presented to Morthyng Group Limited, who celebrated 30 years in business. Morthyng began in 1988 from a merger of two community programmes set up to improve skills and employability after the steel and mines closures in Rotherham. The company supports young people and adults from Rotherham and Doncaster, and afar, along with charities within our region.

The final salute of the evening was presented to Derek Hatterlsey & Son Printers, who were celebrating 50 years in business. The company was established in 1968 and is a family run print business who pride themselves on traditional values of customer service, high quality print and attention to detail. The business was originally founded by Derek Hattersley in a garage attached to his house and as the company grew, one garage became three garages. They later migrated to Mount Pleasant Farm in Hoylandswaine which gave them the foundations to keep building on their successes.
