Vacation home sales up in 2013, investment property declines Vacation home sales rose strongly in 2013, while investment purchases fell below the elevated levels seen in the previous two years, according to the National Association of RealtorsŽ (NAR). NAR’s 2014 Investment and Vacation Home Buyers Survey, covering existing- and newhome transactions in 2013, shows vacation-home sales jumped 29.7 percent to an estimated 717,000 last year from 553,000 in 2012.
Investment-home sales fell 8.5 percent to an estimated 1.10 million in 2013 from 1.21 million in 2012. Owner-occupied purchases rose 13.1 percent to 3.70 million last year from 3.27 million in 2012. The sales estimates are based on responses from households and exclude institutional investment activity.

Amazon Unveils Fire TV, Its Own Set-Top Box
Here's what the device and the remote look like:
Amazon wants to take over your TV. On Wednesday, the company unveiled a $99 settop box called Amazon Fire TV. The device will start shipping immediately. The huge Internet retailer showed off its latest piece of hardware-- a device "thinner than a dime" that connects televisions to streaming video services like Netflix, Hulu and of course, Amazon's own video streaming service. "We need to invent and simplify on behalf of customers," Peter Larsen, Amazon's vice president of Kindle, said to a group of journalists and analysts in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. "When we looked at the living room we took the same approach.

This Weird-Looking Headband Actually Relieves Migraine Pain
A small technology company based in southern Belgium is set to take on the giant US market with its crowning achievement: an anti-migraine headband. The product of years of medical and technological research, the device is a diadem fitted with electrodes designed to take the edge off migraines before they develop into acute blinding pain. Migraine, a deep headache which develops behind the eyes and can last for days, is estimated to stalk to some degree the lives of about one in seven adults around the world, World Health Organization data shows. It appears to be less common in the Far East, but overall affects up to three times more women than men owing to differences in hormonal activity. The band, developed by the Belgian company Cefaly Technology, is worn across the forehead, and sends electric currents to facial nerves. 96% of Markets Better Off Than in 2010 A new report by RealtyTrac shows that 96 percent of the counties that they track are better off than they were four years ago. But still, there’s a ways to go in the housing market, with only 8 percent of the 410 U.S. counties analyzed faring better than they did during the housing boom eight years ago. RealtyTrac analyzes housing market health by gauging four main categories: home price appreciation, affordability, percentage of bank-owned REO sales, and the unemployment rate. “The housing recovery has taken root in hundreds of counties across the country, and almost all local housing markets are better off than they were four years ago when foreclosure activity peaked in 2010, with more than 1 million homes lost to foreclosure in that year alone,” says Daren Blomquist, vice president at RealtyTrac. “We saw less than half that number of bank repossessions nationwide in 2013. Even in

5 Cups Ice 1 Cup Tequila ½ Cup Grand Marnier 5 Limes, more for garnish 1 Orange 1 Cup simple syrup 6 Beer, Corona ⅓ Cup coarse Salt
1.Place limes and the orange– which should be at room temperature–on the counter and roll them with your hand, back and forth, while applying pressure. Be careful, you don’t want to break them open, do it semigently. This way the citrus will yield more liquid when you juice them. 2.Juice the limes and the orange in a large measuring cup, then add in the tequila, grand marnier, and simple syrup. Mix together. 3.Pour the salt into a shallow bowl. Using one of the juiced limes, swipe the outer rim of one of your glasses. Swivel the glass upside down in the salt until the rim is covered. Repeat for each glass. 4.Add a heaping cup of ice to the blender and just enough of the margarita mixture that the ice is not covered. Blend, adding more ice or margarita mix until the desired thickness is achieved. 5.Pour the frozen margarita into a salt-rimmed glass, pop open a Corona, and place it upside down in the glass, submerging it into the margarita. Repeat for each glass.
