Popular Suntree Parade Adds Post-Route Festival It’s a beloved tradition that Suntree residents look forward to all year. They tote lawn chairs from their homes to main streets around the community to wait for some of the most outlandish floats to glide by. This year marks the second year that the tradition has resumed, the gap of many years created when previous volunteer coordinators simply got tired of carrying the load, organizers said. The current volunteers stepped up because the parade was just too much fun to miss. Spirit of Suntree Spring Fling Parade will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5. The route will begin in front of Suntree Elementary School on Jordan Blass Drive, head southwest down St. Andrews Boulevard, then turn north on Interlachen Road. The parade will end at Interlachen Park with food and live entertainment by the band Oceans. Previous routes ended at Suntree Country Club for post-parade camaraderie. “I think what a lot of residents don’t realize is that all of the fun events that are put on are done so by people like them, just plain fellow residents who decide to pitch in their time and energy so they and others can have fun,” said community resident and volunteer chair of the Suntree Master Homeowners Association Community Relations Committee Sally Contess. “We don’t pay our SMHA staff for anything but the professional management of our community.” The committee organizes the parade, while the Parks and Recreation Committee organizes monthly events like movie nights and festivals at Jack Mahon Park on Spyglass Hill Road. Businesses, groups and individuals are invited to decorate a float, car, bicycle or golf cart and enter it in the parade. The Suntree Master Homeowners Association is looking for sponsors to underwrite the cost. Sponsors are vital because no association funds can be used on community events, Contess said. “Community events are vital because they bring our families together in fun, so we feel even better about the great place we live in,” Contess said. “Our sponsors benefit because all our residents see what they are doing for us and we appreciate them.” There is no fee for parade floats, vehicles or other entry slots, she added. U.S. House repeals some flood insurance hikes A bill to repeal many of the rate hikes in the government’s flood insurance program passed in the U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday with strong bipartisan support. After weeks of revisions by both House Republicans and Democrats, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act passed 306-91 following a brief debate on the floor. Before the vote, members of both parties made passionate appeals in favor of the legislation, saying it would relieve homeowners burdened by excessive premiums while ensuring the deeply indebted National Flood Insurance Program remains solvent. “It will provide relief for homeowners struggling to keep their homes. It will ensure all participants in the flood program are treated fairly and eliminate an untenable financial burden in these tough economic times,� said Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor. Tampa Democrat Rep. Kathy Castor praised the bipartisan agreement on the bill, echoing members from New York, New Jersey, Louisiana and even landlocked states like West Virginia.

A listing with ‘curve appeal’ turns off some buyers Buyers note proper grammar and spelling on real estate listings – and they may take a pass on those with bad spelling. About 43 percent of 1,291 people surveyed say they would be less inclined to tour a home if its online listing contained misspellings or improper grammar, according to a study by Redfin and automated proofreading site Grammarly. That also includes common listing ad ploys, such as writing in all caps and using too many exclamation points. While survey respondents say photos were more important than a home’s description, 87 percent also say the description is either extremely or very important.

“When buyers are browsing homes for sale, everything about the listing has an impact on their experience,” says Chad Dierickx, a Redfin real estate agent in Seattle. “Photos grab your attention, but the listing description fills in the gaps by helping a buyer understand what photos can’t.” The majority of respondents also say they prefer a home description of about 50 words. Shorter descriptions can have a bigger impact. Homes with descriptions that fit that length were found to be more likely to sell within 90 days and for a higher price, according to Redfin.

Highest Year-Over-Year Increase In Home Prices Since 2005 Two major indicators of home price trends showed a slowing momentum for home prices in December. The S&P Case Shiller 10 and 20 city indices reported that of 20 cities tracked, home prices were lower in December than for November. Case-Shiller’s seasonally adjusted month-to month reading showed that home prices rose by 0.8 percent as compared to 0.90 percent in November. David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices, said that “Gains are slowing from month-to-month and the strongest part of home price recovery may be over.” He also noted that seasonally adjusted data was showing a loss of momentum for home prices. December home prices posted a year-over-year gain of 13.40 percent, down from November’s year-over-year reading of 13.70 percent. December’s reading reflected the highest year-over-year increase in home prices since 2005.

Found on Pinterest Ingredients: 6 medium Portobello mushrooms 1/2 tsp pepper 1/4 lb Ground Beef dash of cayenne 1/4 Avocado 6 small slices Cheddar Cheese 1 tsp Worcestershire 3 cherry tomatoes, sliced 1 Tbsp Parmesan Cheese 6 basil leaves 1/2 tsp salt Directions Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Remove the stems from your mushrooms, and cut them along the bottom sides to make a smooth edge. Scrape the middle of the mushroom into a bowl. In the same bowl, mash up the avocado then add the beef, Worcestershire, Parmesan, salt, pepper and cayenne. Mix together until everything is combined. Stuff the mushrooms with the beef mixture then top with cheddar cheese. Place each mushroom on a baking dish and bake for approximately 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and beef is cooked through.
