Moments That Matter If the last couple of years has taught us anything, it is that it is so important to make memories with the people that really matter to us. The memories we make are what creates those moments of love for us. Weddings are one of life’s greatest memories. That special day creates love, joy, and happiness for the couple, the family, and their friends. All the special memories that go into making that day amazing create love. From the proposal, setting a date, finding the perfect venue, an exquisite gown, the bridal showers, the stags and stagettes, and the honeymoon location. We know at Bridal Fantasy that many couples have postponed, rescheduled, and have simply waited for their special day so 2022 is set to be a crazy busy year to celebrate love! We hope that you find inspiration and ideas that can help you plan your special day, no matter how big or small, and we hope that you enjoy the making of the memory.

I hope when you open the magazine, you see yourself in the pages. We have brought together the highest level of dresses, flowers, venues and more, right here in our annual edition of Bridal Fantasy. It hasn't been easy for our partners in this industry these past few years, but we are honored and humbled to have the ability to support one another as we build up the wedding industry from the ground up.
The past year has been one full of new challenges, but it’s been an adventure to say the least! Our team at Bridal Fantasy has been hard at work to bring you the most inspirational magazine for every type of bride. Whether your style is sophisticated or a little rock and roll, we have something for everyone within these pages.
Bridal Fantasy isn't just a business that has promoted the wedding industry for many years. We are a family, who's members have banded together, compiled our individual talents and passions, and in aggregate, present you with everything you need to create the greatest day of your life. No matter what your wedding looks like, it is yours. We want you to reminisce about those precious moments, and feel just as you did when you said "I do".
MEGAN MCCOLMAN Director of Digital Presence & Content
I want to thank our amazing contributors, advertisers, and partners for providing us with advice, resources, images, and more to bring you what is sure to be one of our best magazine editions! Without all of you, we wouldn’t have the support and the community that keeps us going strong. We hope our readers will find inspiration within these pages and feel confident when it comes to planning and navigating in this new wedding landscape.
Being back at Bridal Fantasy is nostalgic but very different to previous years. It’s been a dream watching our team put the pages together and create something that uniquely brings all of us together. Everyone who was a part of this publication put their hearts in this one and we are so excited to share it with you! I extend an insane amount of gratitude to everyone that has contributed to this year’s issue. The shoots were stunning, and the features are fabulous. Covid has really taught us to love and appreciate the people that surround us, and this magazine is an amazing example of a community coming together. I’m excited for the future and the many more projects we will create together! #partnersforlife
Much love from our BF Family, to the one you are just getting started on.

GROOM'S ATTIRE: TUXEDO VS. SUIT? Renting or Buying?
Once you’ve decided on your wedding style and what you want to wear on your wedding day, the next big question is choosing whether to rent or buy. Both options have their benefits and should be considered; the biggest factors to think about are how much you (and your groomsmen) are willing to invest on attire and if you’re looking for a less traditional option.
Renting is a popular choice for weddings and with good reason! Renting is budget-friendly plus it’s preferable for groomsmen who already own several suits and don’t want to add another one to their wardrobe. Rentals ensure it’s easy to find a great option that flatters the whole wedding party; thanks to the wide range of sizes available, it’s simple to find a great fit for everyone. They also tend to emphasize styles that are timeless and look best on a wide range of clientele. The biggest advantage of rentals? It’s a package! Rentals include everything you need for your look, including your suit/tuxedo, shirt, vest, shoes, tie, and all of the finishing touches. Unlike assembling your own outfit, you won’t have to worry about finding cufflinks and pocket squares (unless you want to add your own), it’s all there. Larger rental companies typically offer their vests, cummerbunds and ties in dozens of
colours so you’re guaranteed to find the perfect colour to compliment your colour palette and the bridesmaid dresses! With an easy pickup and drop off process, it’s always convenient and easy. Looking forward to wearing that special suit again in the future? Buying your wedding attire is a smart idea if you like the option of wearing the suit again or if you’d welcome a reason to add a new suit to your closet. If you have a unique look in mind, retail offers a wider selection of styles, including trendier options and colours, slimmer cuts, and the ability to get more tailoring done to get a flawless fit. While this can be a larger financial investment, don’t rule it out even if you’re on a tighter budget - there are fantastic options available at every price point. You’d be surprised by some of the great options available at entrylevel prices! If you are going the purchase route, look at a few options for bespoke suiting as well;
it’s your big day, consider investing in something made just for you. Don’t forget that as the groom, you can select something different from the groomsmen! If they would strongly prefer to rent but you want to purchase your suit, that’s okay. As long as the styles are complementary, the wedding party will still look cohesive and stylish. Remember to start thinking about the men’s attire several months before the wedding day so your options aren’t limited. While it’s possible to do a last-minute rental, you’ll be at the mercy of availability, especially during the summer and early autumn wedding season. Plan to do at least a couple of trips. Once just as a couple to narrow down the options you like (it’s easier without commentary from the peanut gallery) and again with the wedding party to try them on.

TREND REPORT 2022: STIMULATE YOUR SENSES 2022 will be a reinvigorating year as couples begin or continue to plan their big day. We have all built up mighty appetites for human connection and exciting experiences. The bottom line? You have a unique opportunity to thrill your guests, become the highlight of the year, and create memories to last a lifetime. As an event designer with a decade of experience, I know how to get the party started. You need to engage all five senses: taste, hearing, smell, sight, and—one which is too often forgotten—touch. Many of these senses are easy to activate. For example, taste hinges on carefully curated cocktails that leave your guests with a sweet taste in their mouths. I activate hearing using incredible live bands, DJs, and soulful singers that play to your
audience's preferences. A savoury, scrumptious menu proliferates the room with smells that make your guests' mouths water as they approach their tables. As you say your "I do’s," the guests' eyes will water as though they have never seen anything more beautiful than watching you and your partner commit to each other. All this, and yet none of it addresses the feeling of touch. We don't exactly want wedding guests running their hands across the intricate lattice lace on the bride's dress or picking at the floral centrepiece to see that they are, indeed, real. So, what's my secret? Texture. There is so much we can accomplish with texture. It can be included everywhere on our wedding day. But why tell you when I can show you? Close your eyes (metaphorically, of course) and go on a journey with me:

You are a wedding guest making your way to your assigned seat. A beautiful table greets you, filling your soul with delight. It has a tall centrepiece filled with dried pampas grass, bunny tails, eucalyptus, and thistles. You are then drawn to the sight of your place card because the handwritten calligraphy makes for an impeccable art piece and one hell of a keepsake. As you take the card into your hand, your fingers run across the ivory-coloured parchment, which has a distinct rough linen texture. The dimples on the paper are both soft and coarse, like the pilling on the inside of your "lounging-around" sweater. The exception is the area where your name has been carefully handwritten. The ink has left the paper with a laminated sensation, slick and shiny like a pair of well-polished loafers. The rugged edges of the paper are filled with loose fibres—as though the place card was torn from an olden book of love poems earmarked for this special day. The place card is tucked away, and you take your seat. As you sit, you cannot help but notice the velvet linen which adorns the table. You run your hand up the linen, and it is as soft as a rabbit's fur. It brings back long-forgotten childhood memories of
playing with your pet bunny in your backyard. While you are basking in nostalgia, you pull your hand back towards yourself, and the velvet gives a little resistance, springing forth small waves of colours, like when a dragonfly lands on the water and gentle ripples radiate out. You place your napkin on your lap, noticing that the satin is smooth and supple. It feels like luxury silk between your fingers, and you get a chill as the corner of the napkin brushes your knee when you drape it across your lap. A wedding favour is sitting nearby, waiting for you to take home. It's a small potted succulent in a clay pot endowed with a handwritten note that says, "Watch Our Love Grow." The tiny pot is cool to the touch as you pick it up. It has a chalky feel with slight imperfections in the clay that gently prod your skin as you turn the pot to examine the beautiful, furry succulent. You can't help but give one of the leaves a "boop" and examining how it turns up ever so slightly in response. As your place the pot back, it catches on a tine of your dessert fork and gives a little squeak. You look around while taking a sip of the couple's signature cocktail. The entrancing smell of dinner
is getting stronger, meaning the show is about the begin. The low echo of laughter and chatting fills the room—it has been so long since you have seen everyone, and you cannot wait to catch up and dance the night away. The microphone cracks and the MC welcomes the couple. The chatting stops but the room soon erupts into cheers and applause as the couple enters. They take your breath away. Open your eyes…. A few small considerations create so many immersive experiences for your guests. As you plan your wedding day, I encourage you to reflect on how you can create sense-stimulating experiences for your guests. By stimulating all their senses, we create formative memories for years to come. Cheers to you and happy planning XO Chelsea, River City Events!

THE FINISHING TOUCHES Do you dream of having a wedding that’s unforgettable? Since today’s bride is all about wowing her guests, Bridal Fantasy came up with a few ideas that will ensure your wedding makes a lasting impression. 1. GUEST TRANSPORTATION: Consider shuttling your guests from your ceremony to the reception; not only is this more convenient and safer, but it will also give your guests a chance to socialize with one another. 2. INVEST IN A PHOTO BOOTH OR BACKDROP: It’s a great way to entertain guests at your reception and you’ll be guaranteed to have unique and funny photo keepsakes. 3. CHILD CARE: Hire a couple of babysitters (depending on the number of kids you are expecting). Set up a kid’s room with games, colouring books, a T V and DVD player for movies, etc. Their parents will then have a chance to mingle with the other guests without having to worry about their kids. 4. LIVE ENTERTAINMENT: Hire professionals to put on a show for your guests: From musicians and comedians to balloon artists and face painters, anything goes, but make sure what you choose relates to your wedding theme.
5. WEDDING DRESS CHANGE: Wearing more than one dress at your wedding is a big trend. A good time to change is between your ceremony and reception. Consider wearing the fancier gown for your ceremony and a more comfortable or perhaps fashion-forward dress for the reception. 6. “ROCK YOUR RECEPTION” DANCE: Surprise your guests with a choreographed dance that turns heads. Do this for your first dance, with your proud parents or your entire wedding party. Also, a great idea is to share it on YouTube. More WOW ideas include having a candy or dessert bar that match your wedding colour(s)/theme, sponsoring a charity or edible centrepieces. Whatever twists your plan, make sure they reflect you and your fiancé’s personality!

HOW TO KEEP A LEVEL HEAD DURING THE WEDDING PROCESS Weddings by nature are stressful. But it helps to know how to keep a level head throughout the wedding process. Weddings are emotional reckonings and will set off triggers if you have not dealt with your issue before hand I’m here to help. Be prepared for all the hidden emotions to surface to the top. Family and Friend relationships will be tested, everyone will have an opinion on what you should wear, what colors to wear, how to smile, how to stand, how say I DO!
share that those things that went “wrong” made memories they will be able to share with their children. So don’t be afraid of not having THE PERFECT wedding.
So, how do you keep calm and carry on when things don’t go as planned for your wedding day or the days leading up to it? Here are a few tips to keeping that level head that makes for a happier wedding day.
Finally, don’t forget the big picture
Acknowledge that things can go wrong There’s no way around it. Even with the bestlaid plans, things can go wrong. So, if you acknowledge that your day may not go exactly as you wanted, then you are less likely to lose your cool on the day. I’m not saying to be pessimistic. Just acknowledge that the wedding process may not go according to plan. When you do this, you can tackle any issue that arises, and know when to leave those that cannot be solved. I encourage you to ask your friends and or family members about their wedding disasters. A few many even
Get help Very simple advice. Hire a team of dynamic professionals that understand your vision and you trust will give you best planning experience you could ever imagine.
At the end of the day, just focus on what matters – that this is just a steppingstone to spending the rest of your life with the person you love. You will find yourself disagreeing with each other during this process and understand that totally normal. There may be a point where you question if want to go through with the wedding. If you find yourself going down that road STOP the wedding planning process for about two week and just focus on each other. During my very own wedding planning process when I allowed our guests list or timeline planning create tension, I found myself going back to old text messages, emails, and love notes given to me during our time together and those reminded why I fell in love and wanted to create an amazing future together.
D’Concierge combines the perfect mélange of chic, elegance, and bold creativity fused with energetic ideas customized to the bride’s total satisfaction. After graduating high school and finishing up his freshman year of undergrad Darryl Wilson Jr. had his life mapped out. The plan was to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the Navy Branch of the Armed Forces, serve 25 years and retire. But a special occasion altered the course of events and changed Wilson’s life forever. “GOD had a different blueprint for me,” Wilson says. It wasn’t until after planning his mother’s wedding to my step father 16 years ago that he realized the exceptional talent he had.” Talented but not yet confident, Wilson struggled to see how he could take his talent and craft a successful career in wedding planning. “At the time the wedding and event industry was predominately ran by females, and there were not many men of color in the limelight making strides in the wedding industry,” says Wilson. As his confidence began to grow, his LIFE long goal has become to change the dynamics of the industry by curating one love story at a time! So what stirs and incites Wilson’s passion within to produce magical memories? I LOVE LOVE it's just that simple for me. He says, “I am blessed to be a part of an industry that honors and celebrates LOVE every day.” Inspired everyday by amazing opportunities and experiences, Wilson relishes his role in bringing love together. “Plus I’m blessed to work with beautiful women from around the world,” Wilson says. What a lucky man am I !

THE IMPORTANCE OF WOMEN'S FITNESS Close your eyes, and imagine yourself standing before yourself, in front of a full sized mirror, fully naked. Now imagine how you’d feel if you were 100% satisfied and happy with the way you looked. This is the most powerful feeling and the best confidence one can have. No amount of wealth, diamonds, cars, or even social media likes could give you more confidence than being completely happy with who YOU are. Pivoting into 2022, many of us women are looking to fulfill our New Year’s Resolutions, or even Old Year’s Resolutions we weren’t able to complete in the past. What are we all actually looking for? How much could each and every one of us accomplish if we had the confidence to do what we wanted to do? We live in a world where materialistic items and social media play a big part in our everyday lives. Instead of spending countless hours scrolling, imagine spending that time working on your physical, and mental self. Where would you be today? On average, a person sleeps 6-7 hours per night, works 8 hours a day, and we spend about 1-2 hours a day on transportation. Where did the other 7 out of the 24 go? How many times have you told yourself, “I’m too busy to go to a class”, “I don’t have time to go to the gym”, or “I’m not fit enough to workout yet.”? Can you imagine if you had started working
on your fitness the first time you had said something along those lines? Where would you be today? Probably a lot closer to your goal! Fitness is not all about your physical ability. It all starts with your mental strength. Only YOU can make one day.. DAY ONE. Loving yourself by being physically active can and will prevent long term chronic health complications. Accumulating a higher body fat percentage can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, difficulty breathing, joint pain, and many more issues that lead to physical pain or even death. It’s not about having the time… it’s about making the time to give yourself the respect and appreciation you deserve. Be better than who you were yesterday and it will bring you closer to your goal, one day at a time!

FLOWER POWER Say it with flowers. Your wedding flowers play a major role in your wedding theme. You want your floral accents to complement the entire theme and feel of your wedding day. • To make sure that your flowers say exactly what you want them to say, you must first successfully communicate with the florist. • Visit shops, talk to the florists, and choose the florist you are most comfortable with. • Be prepared for your first consultation. Before you meet with your florist you need to know how much you are willing to spend. • Bring along a swatch of your bridesmaid’s dresses to match colours. Flowers are an important focal point of your total wedding picture. Visual impact is important so consider the colour, the size, and style of the message you are communicating with your flowers. Reception Flowers Reception flowers create both a special ambience and bring together the colour scheme at your head table. Centrepieces add charm to each table but should be kept to a lower height to encourage conversation.
If you do decide to do a tall centrepiece, like calla lilies, put them into a tall vase so the flowers will sit above the heads of your guests at the table. Small, round vases stuffed with blooms and some light greenery make great centrepieces as they add a subtle touch of colour to the table. Small plants in a hand-painted pot are a wonderful way to personalize each table, and do double duty as favours your guests can take home and put into their own flowerbed to remember your special day. Potted trees with twinkling lights add beautiful
ambience to the dance floor. You can also try hanging escort cards from a flowering bush. Flowers are one of the ultimate symbols of love, whether you choose a sweet gerbera daisy for beauty, or romantic red spring tulips. No matter how you look at it, flowers play an intricate role in weddings. They accent the attire of the wedding party and create some amazing photo opportunities. Flowers add that natural finishing touch to your décor.

LET THERE BE FLOWERS Mother’s Day 2020, Brock witnessed hundreds of (distanced) patrons line up around the block of his home to get their hands on one of the 400 BEAUXquets Brock and his small team had created. His entire inventory of BEAUXquets sold out within 15 minutes. The public demand for Beaux Florals was so high that Brock made the difficult decision to close his hair salon of over a decade, Studio B, permanently. He hired a small team of close friends and family and transformed his salon space into his floral design studio. He also set up his Instagram account @beauxflorals to document his daily floral creations.
Wedding clients. Using elements of floral design combined with dreamy tablescapes, Brock was able to develop unique and personal dream weddings for brides that quickly gained interest and admiration from his clients and fans.
After his official brand launch, Brock undertook his first big project; weddings. Recognizing that the wedding landscape had changed significantly due to COVID, Brock set out to establish beautifully curated and intimate wedding packages for his
Brock has taken his unique approach to florals and has expanded it to reach those Nationwide. He has appeared on television shows such as "The Social" and "The Marilyn Denis Show". His work was also featured in the popular ten-day floral exhibition
Brock wanted to continue to connect and inspire others through floral design. He developed intimate floral arrangement workshops both in person and virtually. These workshops designed to inspire others to create their own floral artwork also help give others the foundation to express themselves creatively for years to come.
"Fleurs de Villes," this past Fall with two custom, large-scale installations created solely with fresh and perishable florals and greenery. Brock has recently pivoted away from retail, in order to focus on weddings and custom design work. Currently has been focussing on creating florals for set designs in popular television series while continuing to navigate the ever-changing wedding world. Through it all, Brock has continued to navigate the hurdles of COVID-19 restrictions with a smile. He now has a large local following of over 20K followers on his Instagram account. He continues to adapt week to week, making sure that his clients are continually inspired by his floral art. As he always says “Working nine days a week it is so worth it when I see the smile on my clients' faces during the reveal.”

To Brock and his clients, it truly is so much more than ‘just flowers’… Brock: This year's trends continue to err on the scaled-down intimate weddings. Brides and Grooms are forced to scale down to a smaller guest list, which in turn leaves more room in the wedding budget as well as time to spend on the details. We are seeing Brides and Grooms get more and more involved in the creative esthetic and thematic elements of their wedding, which allows them to really express themselves as a couple through their florals and decor. Floral designs are getting more and more wild and creative building de-constructed looks that are so playfully romantic and unique. So much of individual expression has been lost through the traditional use of florals and decor.
This year's floral trend is all about individuality. It is less about tight clean, round and perfect, as we have seen traditionally in the floral world for so many years. The focus has shifted more to the perfectly curated wild and asymmetrical shapes and textures, which allow the eyes to follow around the room as the florals act in the storytelling for you. They are creatively expressive, complex, and individual, as are each one of our clients at BEAUX Florals. There has been more and more of a on using different heights, textures and decor. Your tablescape and decor are the perfect marriage of expression. Consider different heights, vessels, colours and tones. Don't be afraid to think outside of the box and express yourself in a playfully romantic way. You would be surprised at how so many different textures and themes can come together!
For Brock Stacey, Owner and Head Florals Designer at Beaux Florals, it is about so much more than just flowers. It is about expressing himself and truly connecting with others, through beautiful palettes, tones, and textures the floral arrangements can provide. Ever a small business owner, Brock made the transition from a successful hair salon Studio B to a floral designer at the beginning of the COVID crisis. After restrictions left his salon closed for an undetermined amount of time, he began selling BEAUXquets on the curbside with his mom Joanne. These custom flower arrangements quickly gained recognition around the Halton Region.

RELATIONSHIP ADVICE FOR NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES Becoming engaged is a time you and your partner will remember forever; it can be overwhelming while marvellous and exciting. Below you will find some tips and suggestions for you during the hectic months to come: • It can be difficult to compromise with one another. Each of you may have different ideas; but the important thing to remember is meeting each other halfway. • Communicating with your partner is the key to any relationship; make sure to listen to each other. That way you both know that your opinion does matter. • While planning your wedding you should try to set a date for every second week that has nothing to do with planning your big day. That way you two can just focus on each other without all the excitement of your wedding.
• Get to know your partners family, after all they are going to be your future in-laws. Learning about your fiancés relatives is a great way to grow as a couple. • Have priorities when it comes to planning your wedding; make sure that when you both are setting out your schedule that you are taking into account the more critical things verse the easier tasks. Setting a timeline can be very beneficial. • Keep in mind that it is up to only you two to plan your wedding day - what the cake will be like, who your band will be, what your China looks like, these are things that are all up to you two and no one else. • It is important for you and your fiancé to seek premarriage advice. You need to make sure that you both understand each other’s view on your future.
• Remember what is most important. Weddings are never just about the two of you (the honeymoon is)! That being said, take into consideration that you will need to learn how to work and cooperate with family members, the annoying cousins, or his/her ignorant best friend. For what it’s worth, at least you can look back and say that you had made the best of “those” moments of your life. Lastly, remember that you are no longer going to be a me, but a we. Some topics that will need to be discussed before marriage are personality differences, sexual expectations, and most of all money. Finances have made and broken families and lifetime partners, all because there was no established mutual agreement to begin with or unrealistic standards for each other were set.

A New Kind of B 38
Wedding Shoe Has any one of us put together a bridal look without contemplating how to incorporate a touch of colour? My “aha moment” was in 2002, when I saw the first photographs of Gwen Stefani’s hot pink dip-dyed wedding gown designed by John Galliano for Christian Dior. My heart stopped, and I realized that her gown was the embodiment of my wedding dress dreams. Not every bride will want to be so bold with colour, and not every bride will have the budget or access to a couture wedding gown. As such, my compromise in 2004 was to add drama with rich red floral bouquets. Luckily, the bridal fashion world has moved forward, and access to unique pieces has been made easier thanks to creative local designers and better access to online shopping. The important thing to understand is that there are ways to add a pop of colour here and there; you can be bold, or you can be subtle, but it is absolutely one of those trends that is here to stay. Fast-forward to 2021, and Gwen Stefani was once again a wedding look trendsetter when she wore white and gold stiletto cowgirl boots by Le Silla to marry Blake Shelton. Footwear is a really subtle way to jazz up your bridal look, because most gowns will be long enough to cover the shoes while the bride is standing at the reception and for the classic family and wedding party photos. However, when the fashion forward bride walks down the aisle and dances during the reception, guests can catch a glimpse of fantastically colourful shoes. The bride can also pose dramatically for photos à la Gwen,
tale, the way he described conceiving his shoe brand together with his beautiful wife Luisa in the town of Vigevano, near Milan, in northern Italy. Dating back to the 10th century AD, Vigevano is not only one of Italy’s historic art centers, but it is renowned for its long history of the artisanal craft of shoemaking. In Italian, the word is calzature, which is infinitely more elegant and romantic than the word shoemaking, and perhaps this was the key to unlocking the magic that began in Vigevano and will forever link the art of calzature with Italy’s cultural heritage. During our interview, Arturo listed for me a number of celebrated shoe designers who own or use factories in Vigevano to produce their shoes. In fact, prior to launching his own brand of shoes in 2018, at the urging of his lovely and creative wife Luisa, Arturo worked for other notable shoe design houses. I won’t name them, but they are known and coveted worldwide.
where she hitched up her skirt and dramatically pointed one cowgirl booted toe up in the air. The romance of a new kind of wedding shoe came to life when I interviewed the Italian shoe designer, Arturo Gorlini. When he spoke to me by telephone, it was as if he were telling me a fairy
Located in Vigevano, apart from shoe factories, is a professional school which Arturo attended, that teaches shoe design, pattern making, cutting and sewing. Arturo explains that the ability of a shoe designer to create a heel of any great height, that can be realistically and comfortably worn, comes from his many years of patient design artistry, and his precise attention to detail during the design process. For example, the pitch of the shoe must be considered, maintaining proper sizing by properly

wrapping the fabric around the sole, combined with precise and traditional stitching. All of these aspects must come together to produce an Arturo Gorlini shoe. As if the magnificent designs weren’t enough, Arturo Gorlini wants the women wearing his shoes to feel special, as if they were part of a secret society club, and for his products to be instantly recognizable. In this regard, he has chosen the color fuchsia, the pinkest tone of passion, for the trademark color of his soles. This way, when the wearer is walking away from you, walking up the stairs, when she sits in front of you and crosses her legs, or when she kicks her foot up in joy, the unmistakable fuchsia sole tells the story of the designer in an instantly recognizable way. He comments that some shoe designers are amazing artists, and they sketch exquisite designs, but oftentimes these fantastical sketches are not realistic to make, because for whatever reason, the shoe that results will not be wearable. This is where his decades of experience in all aspects of shoe design and production come into play. When he has a vision in his mind’s eye of the shoe that he wants to create, he will work and revise the design until it reaches a point where it will be both wearable and still maintain the fabulous aspects and characteristics that brought the shoe alive in his imagination. NICOLE LACHANCE is obsessed with fashion and loves to write about it. A former lawyer, she woke up one day and realized that her true purpose in life was to enjoy living, and to write about her experiences. She enjoys making connections with designers, understanding their process, and appreciating their art. She is a professional ghostwriter of self-help books, non-fiction, books about human sexuality, and contemporary romance. Nicole enjoys spending time with her wonderful and supportive husband, and their three amazing children. Thanks to the inspiration she sees in Bridal Fantasy, she is already planning an encore wedding.
The sewing and stitching artisans work with the materials around the plastic forms to ensure that standard fits will be achieved. He explains that he learned these design and fit methods from the old guard, and these methods are tried and true, they are classic and a necessity in the artisanal shoe industry. In essence, when you take a shoe design from the point of a sketch to the point of an actual shoe, standard sizing and comfort must be respected. If these steps are not properly carried out for each shoe design, then the result will be odd fits and shoes that are neither comfortable nor durable, because you need to achieve balance in every design. He laughs and says it was simply his stroke of good luck, that he was able to patiently learn these key aspects of traditional shoemaking by virtue of where he grew up. Arturo Gorlini shoes are currently available in the exclusive Printemps department store in Paris, as well as in numerous elegant boutiques along the Cote d’Azur, in St. Tropez, in Aix-en-Provence. WEDDINGS OF THE FUTURE – THE ECO-CONSCIOUS COUPLE Everyone is making changes to go green, and the wedding industry is no different. We’ve got a few ways you can reduce your carbon footprint by reimagining some traditional wedding practices! Here are our tips for Sustainable Weddings. The Invites Wedding websites and apps with E-Invites are quickly becoming the norm. If going paperless isn’t a complete solution for you, using less paper is totally doable! Print your invites at a local shop that carries recycled paper and mail physical invites only to those who would most appreciate them. The Flowers Most flowers are shipped in from around the world and their carbon footprint can be huge! Talk your florist about creating arrangements with locally sourced flowers. Or consider a silk flower bouquet. They’re beautiful, never wilt, and can bought and sold multiple times! The Venues You can’t always help how eco-friendly your venue is, but you CAN choose a venue to host both your ceremony and reception. That’s less travel for you and for the guest list, and that’s a smart way to think green. The Photos Before hopping in the limo and touring around for wedding party photos remember this: The less you travel, the smaller your carbon footprint. If your venues aren’t appropriate for photos choose somewhere you can get all your pictures done in one place.
The Food Step one: Choose a menu that can be sourced locally. Step two: Talk to your caterers to ensure they’re sourcing their meat and veggies locally. Going local with your menu isn’t just a green choice, but local meats and veggies are fresher and taste better! The Drink If you’re in Canada and had to guess which wine has less of a carbon footprint: The one from BC or the one from Spain… the choice is obvious. Locally, or at least domestically, produced drink is usually the greener choice. The Favours Consider sending your guests home with a sapling. As they grow and mature like your love for one another, each tree can absorb more than 1 ton of carbon in its lifetime! Or keep things single and donate on behalf of each guest to a charitable eco organization such as TreeCanada.Org Having a sustainable wedding doesn’t mean trading in a limo for a Tesla. Making simple changes to go green and offset your carbon footprint is gift you give yourself that you won’t forget.

Gifts to Show Your Gratitude At a loss for cool new ideas? We’ve got you covered.
You’ve read articles on writing your speech, set yourself an essential reminder to pack the rings, and you’re ready to say “I do.” But have you thought about your groomsmen’s gifts?
Like the gifts the bride gives her attendants, the groomsmen’s gifts are a token of gratitude for all of the help and support that they’ve given you through the wedding process. Typically, gifts are given to the members of the wedding party, the best man, all groomsmen, the ring bearer, the father of the bride and your father as well. Not sure how grand the gesture should be? A common range is between $75-150; take into consideration how much they had to spend on hotels, wardrobes and associated celebrations. Your gift should reflect the time, money and thought that everyone put into helping make your day amazing. Also, compare with your bride and her plans for bridesmaids’ gifts - they should be comparable to the groomsmen’s gifts. It’s common to get matching or similar gifts for all the guys, but you certainly don’t need to. Personalizing each gift and finding things they ’ll love is a thoughtful gesture that will ensure your thank-you won’t be forgotten in a drawer. If you’re not the first gent in your social circle to tie the knot, most guys probably already have a flask or two gathering dust - just to use one example. Typically, the best man, fathers of the bride and groom, and the ringbearer will receive personalized gifts, even if you opt for otherwise matching gifts.
• You can never go wrong with a nice addition for their liquor cabinet. Think beyond expected classics and find something special like a local craft brew or wine from the venue if you’re getting married at a vineyard. • Spring wedding or rainy location? Keep the rain at bay with a slick umbrella. Famously fashionable, American president John F. Kennedy gifted each of his groomsmen engraved umbrellas at his wedding and his style was always impeccable. • A sharp, well-made weekend bag. While they likely have casual duffels and reliable suitcases, they probably don’t have a serviceable but sharp weekender. Help them arrive in style with a nicely constructed bag for those weekend getaways. • A metal money clip is an under-appreciated accessory, especially for those days (like your wedding) when tucking a full wallet in your pocket isn’t ideal. Clips are a great way to wrangle together just the essentials, like cash and a card or two. Gifts wrapped and ready? The best time to give them out is at the rehearsal dinner while the bride is giving her gifts to her bridal party. The rehearsal dinner is an intimate celebration and opportunity for your entire wedding party to gather together, making it the perfect time to thank everyone for their role in your big day. The ideal way to present your gifts is individually so you can take the time to express your gratitude in each person’s role. If you do choose to give the gifts at the rehearsal dinner and are having formal seating, you and your bride may also opt to beautifully wrap and set the gifts at each person’s seat. Whether you choose to put the gifts at their place setting or to give the gifts by hand, ensure you include a thoughtful note! If you’ve opted for alcohol or a similar gift, you may want to give your gift at a different time (like the bachelor party).

capturing rock n’ roll love stories since 2014
WEDDING HAIR TRENDS FOR 2022 Today’s brides scream for the natural, sexy styles. These babes love anything from soft tousled down dos to the sweet undone bun. The organic placement creates the most impact to frame the face and define beautiful necklines. Softness and shine are a must! Classic looks include perfect voluminous “Jessica Rabbit” waves and your larger than life full, bouncy curls. These pulled apart structured updos are our favorite. Like fine pieces of threads placed perfectly on the head to create the most beautiful shape. We love our unconventional brides too! Braids are taking a back seat, yet pleated Mohawks or bungie corded twists are newer on the market. Please ladies, book minimum 6-9 months out as popular salons are booked over a year out.
With love, Monika MONIKA LIDICKY opened
her salon, Rock It Out, back in 2009. Her career started at the early age of 15. Working for her past employer for 12 years. She knew she wanted to spread her passion for hair and educate a strong family orientated team. Now 25 years into the trade her passion still grows strong. BRIDAL BEAUTY Every bride wants to look beautiful on her wedding day. With the right planning, your hair and skin can look amazing. By looking through magazines and checking out websites, you can get great ideas for your bridal hair style and makeup. Your Wedding Hairstyle Don’t try anything drastic right before your wedding – i.e.: a new cut or colour. You want and need to feel good on the inside and the out. Rushed decisions are rarely good ones – and especially on such a big day! Your wedding pictures are something you want to treasure, not hide because you hated your hair.
capture this feminine and bold style, you may need to start working on growing your hair. Shoulder length or longer works best.
greasy. Focus attention to one dramatic part of your face – either the eyes or the lips. A great tip to keep in mind; blush is an accent, not a feature!
Try accessorizing your locks with a tiara or diamante pins. Flowers can also look fabulous in the right style and beaded/pearled pins are great for a bridal look.
Plan early – as soon as you have picked your wedding gown, start planning your hairstyle. If possible, have a friend take a picture of you in your gown and decide on the image you want to convey. You can then style your hair to capture that look; whether it be romantic, modern or edgy.
Make-Up Magic When it comes to beauty, the first thing any brideto-be should do is take a good look at their skin care regime. Visit a dermatologist or skin-care experts (you can get recommendations from your doctor, family or friends) to find out exactly what you need to do to get the perfect, healthy skin you want for your wedding day. Ask lots of questions and learn how to take care of your complexion – both your face and your body. One thing you can start doing right away is to drink more water. This flushes toxins out of your skin and your system.
Whether you go light, dark or dramatic on your eyes, always use a matte contour in the crease of the eye – never a frost. Save frost shades for the lower lid, slightly under your brow bone or on your lips. Eyeliner is the best product to bring out the glamour for your bridal make up. Reshape or darken your brows with a pencil or powder for better definition. If you are getting your brows waxed (or any part of your face), do it at least three days before your wedding.
When you do your rehearsal (don’t skip this – it can make a huge difference) bring everything with you. You should bring your veil, tiara and any other hair accessories you want to wear on your day. Another tip is to bring pictures in for your stylist to look at. Pictures can help you communicate the idea you have for your hairstyle. Some hot wedding hairstyles are: The Boho Bride - This look incorporates curls, braids and twists for an effortless updo. Perfect for any hair texture, this style is a go-to for all brides and bridesmaids. The Breakfast at Tiffany’s Bride - A look that is typical of Audrey Hepburn and the 60’s. Add a jewelled pin for some flash. This is a clean and architecturally beautiful look. The Classic Bride - A traditional updo with some contour and drama. Tiaras look nice with this style, just keep the size right. You’ll need a hairstylist that is an expert in updos to get this look right. The Fairy Tale Bride - Riots of gorgeous curls create a sensational bridal look. If you want to
To tan or not to tan? Most brides choose to tan for their weddings. As long as you do this properly, you won’t have to worry about the orange colour from a sun-lamp or the redness of being outside. Tan gradually and never excessively. Watch for tan lines – you don’t want them to show. Don’t tan in the week prior to your wedding because your tan needs the time to turn from red (or orange!) to the lovely brown you’re seeking. Another option (which is quite healthy) is a tan-in-a-bottle or a spray tan. Test either of these methods well ahead of your wedding for any reactions. Get a full facial done (not within two weeks of your wedding) to even out your skin tone and give your skin time to heal from any reactions you might have. If you are wearing a strapless gown, get two shades of foundation – one for your face and one for your shoulders. Powder is a must – flashes from cameras can reflect off your face, making you look hot and
Eyelashes are the finishing touch on your wedding look. Try using an eyelash curler for more dramatic lashes. The key is to curl your lashes before you apply mascara. Stay on the safe side – black and waterproof. If you are looking for more than your lashes can give you, get false ones. These are available individually or in strips, so you can choose exactly how much you want. After you’ve applied them, finish your lashes with a thin line of liquid eyeliner to make them look more natural. Keep your lips simple. Use a lip liner only if you are willing to touch it up all day. Lipstick lasts longer than gloss, but lip gloss is very easy to use for a touch up in a hurry. Pedicures and manicures are a must for your day. Simple and soft shades are usually your best bet – a nice touch without overpowering your total look. They are a beautiful way to add dimension and texture to any creation and can be bright and fun or elegant and classy. The options truly are endless! The best part… they are DRY. This means the chances of your natural flowers looking sad and wilting on your wedding day are ZERO! One less stress to think about on the big day!
MINIMALIST DESIGNS Marie Kondo says, “Letting go is even more important than adding”, and I couldn’t agree more!
moments that happen along the way! Embrace any last-minute changes, everything always turns out the way it should.
As brides, sometimes get carried away by all the amazing ideas in our head. We have been dreaming of our wedding for so many years, that when the time comes to start planning, we want EVERYTHING! But, sometimes going minimalist, keeping things simple and adding minimal design features can work in your favour.
Stay safe, sweet and in love.
Minimalist cakes are quickly becoming some of the most popular wedding cakes out there. They fit any venue, theme, season, or location. If you trust in the right cake designer, you can have a stunning cake that will “spark you joy” on your special day! The simplicity is sometimes more eye catching than a cake with many different design elements. I went with a minimalist design for my wedding cake, and it wowed all my guests! INDIVIDUAL MINI CAKES This is a trend that has started since the pandemic has made our wedding guest counts smaller and our receptions more intimate. Small or individual sizes have become the new way to go as we continue to navigate wedding planning through our “new normal”. I know, I know.... this is not an easy topic to talk about, especially when it comes to planning our special day, but these types of cakes are a great way to go during these ever-changing times. From individual cakes that can be put at each place setting to mini cakes that can be set up by table, these types of cakes are safe and convenient. Plus! More cakes give you the ability to order a variety of different flavours to satisfy each of your guests. As a newly married woman, I would like to add that regardless of the cake, the decorations, the food, or dress, this is one of the most special days of your life. If you have both come this far together it is because you belong to each other. Make sure to enjoy all aspects of the planning, the journey and the sweet

FOOD, FAMILY, FIRE Food and relationships have always been a pairing with me.
Neighbors would come over and judge me on the mystery baskets she would build for me.
My father Hungarian father, a self- taught chef, like myself. Laid the groundwork for my personal approach to cooking. His motto was, “When it tastes good, it’s ready.” My mother who is from Egypt, introduced me to the spice profiles of the Mediterranean and Middle East, which have become staples in my cooking.
Having the love for food has not fallen to far from the family tree. I cook with my kids quite a bit. They both have their own chefs' knives and safety gloves of course. It’s beautiful to see the proud look on their faces when they cook something on their own.
My wife Alyssa and I are high school sweethearts. Although I do most of the cooking. She is the glue that holds the whole thing together! We are quite opposite. She, highly organized and logical. Myself, I wear my emotions on my sleeve and often bite off more than I can chew. Like I said she is the glue. Before I competed on chopped Canada. Alyssa would come home with mystery basket ingredients. Not just any ingredients. The most popular ingredients. Which she had nicely organized on a spread sheet!
I do have another family. The firehall family. I’ve been a firefighter for 16 years in Vancouver. Cooking and eating with the crew is such a huge part of our culture. Regardless of what types of calls we attend. Fire, medical, car accident. We always sit down together and have a meal. It’s a way of de-stressing from calls we’ve attended. Cooking and eating together are one of the reasons that fire crews become so tight.

Bridal Style The wedding gown is an article of clothing most woman have dreamed about since they were little girls. Looking through magazines, attending Bridal Fantasy and other bridal shows, and window shopping can help you become familiar with the latest styles and fabrics.
More than 90% of the time, your dream dress is the one you’ll purchase because when you finally put it on it will make you smile, confirming that it truly is the one. To protect yourself, and your dream, it is wise to shop with reputable businesses. We all have heard horror stories of brides that go to pick up their dress, days before the wedding, only to find it missing, or that it has suddenly become a size 4 when it was originally a size 8. If you have friends who have recently married, check with them to see if they were happy with the service they received at the businesses they chose. If so, you’ve got a place to start. There has been a distinct shift in wedding gown styles. When selecting a gown, the individuality and uniqueness of each bride is now much more important than it used to be. The runways are showcasing a trend toward simple and more elegant styles. Bridal shops are carrying sophisticated, narrower silhouettes, and off-shoulder dresses that reflect a more romantic style. There is a move toward intricate trims and detailing to make each gown unique.
There are many different dress styles and necklines to choose from. A halter neckline comes up from the bust and goes around the neck while a strapless neckline goes across the bust. A jewel neckline sits high on the collarbone and usually goes straight across. V-neck and scoop necklines are great for girls with a larger bust, while the sweetheart adds a little more of a “princess” feel to your bridal gown.

When shopping for your wedding gown, make sure to utilize the knowledge of the professional in the bridal shop you select. They can advise you on what style would best suit your body type and what fabrics would go well with your wedding theme. Remember, it is easier to take a dress in than let it out, so keep that in mind when ordering your gown. Try to take along the undergarments and shoes you plan on wearing on your wedding day. Even if it isn’t exact, you will get a better idea of the fit of your dress and if it will need to be hemmed.

FORMALWEAR FACTS Choosing A Formalwear Specialist You should look at the reputation and quality of your options. Get referrals from friends and family. You don’t want to compromise on quality or service. Keep in mind that you want to find a retailer that carries current styles. The last thing you want is a tuxedo that looks like it’s from five years ago! Ask your tuxedo retailer these questions:
B 61
• Is stock replaced on a regular basis? • How many times is a garment cleaned, and what methods are used? • Is there a full-time, on-site tailor? Why Be Measured By A Formalwear Specialist? Get Fitted By An Expert. It’s essential in ensuring you get a properly fitted tuxedo. Befitting formalwear is a must for comfort and look. Ask for a trained, knowledgeable fitter. How Do We Select A Style? Look through men’s magazines and catalogues (the Derks catalogue is available online too) to find styles that appeal to you. Share ideas on what the bride’s attendants will be wearing, because you want your formalwear to compliment the overall look of the wedding. Once you’ve decided, head to your chosen formalwear location and speak to a specialist. How Can The Groom’s Attendants Complement The Bride’s? With so many choices in accessories, you can find the perfect colour that will highlight the colours chosen for the attendants. With large selections of vests and accessories, formalwear professionals can assist you in coordinating the look of all the attendants. When Is The Best Time To Book Our Formalwear? You should book your formalwear as early as possible, especially if you’re looking to rent during May through September. The summer is the most popular time for weddings. Booking early will ensure that you get the style you desire. Four to six months in advance is suggested.
Does Everyone Need To Be There When We Book? No. It may be easier to come in alone, or just with your fiancé, when making your decisions. Once the styles are chosen, your consultant will enter them into the computer system. The rest of your party can then come in at a time that works best for them, but make sure they are prompt. What Happens If Someone Comes In Much Later? When one person waits too long, they might not be able to fit into the same style you have chosen, which can lead to a lot of disappointment. Your formalwear specialist should then inform you of the situation and you will have to decide what needs to be done. Avoid this situation by having everyone come in a timely fashion, no less than three months prior to your event. What Payment Is Required? Payment is usually required at the time of booking, full payment speeds up the delivery, but you will need to at least put a deposit down on your rental. Should Shoes Be Rented? In order to maintain consistency and complete the formal look, we suggest you rent shoes. You don’t want your groomsmen showing up wearing tuxes
and sneakers. Footwear is professionally cleaned and maintained to the highest standards. At Derks, we guarantee style, quality and freshness. What Should I Do In The Event There Is A Problem With My For-Malwear On My Special Day? Check with your formalwear provider to see what their policy is. On Saturdays, Derks has an extra person on staff to assist you, should a problem arise, and Derks can even send someone out to you. Should something be forgotten, or if something needs fixing, call our emergency service department and we’ll do what it takes to make it right. When Do We Return Our Formalwear? To avoid late fees, all garments must be returned as soon as possible. Your formalwear specialist should cover all of this information with you, including when the tux should be back, as well as late fees, and the hours your location is open for returns.

HONEYMOON DESTINATION! As we emerge from a post pandemic period of no travel, and no weddings, it’s time to celebrate. Of course, being safe is paramount so why not honeymoon in Canada. I recently paid a visit to Montreal to check out the scene and needless to say, fell in love (again)! Let’s face it; it’s like being in Europe but less expensive, Canadian dollar being number one! Naturally you’re going to treat yourselves by staying at a luxury property and what better place than The Hotel Birks. Yes, the iconic Canadian Jeweller has created a stunning property at its’ original flagship location in the heart of Montreal. The lobby is stunning, brought back to its’ original baroque magnificence with a painstaking restoration. The buzzy Restaurant Henri Brasserie Françoise lies opposite the Maison Birks store (maybe a polish on the new rings?). The rooms exude a certain je ne sais quoi. And that bed! Think sumptuous bed linens and dreamy, cloud like mattress and duvet. The bathroom is beautifully appointed complete with see through shower, apropos considering it’s your honeymoon after all!
Dining in Montreal is as easy as walking out the door. Incredible restaurants are everywhere and a highlight would be Bar George. Set in a grand Victorian mansion, now the Le Mount Stephen Hotel, this elegant, modern English bar and restaurant impresses immediately upon entering. With their 300 year old stained glass windows, 15-foot Ceylon satinwood paneled wall and the 22-carat gold fixtures; Bar George highlights the heritage elements and celebrates the nostalgic charm of this historic mansion. The bar, see and be scene; the restaurant, white linen tablecloths and outstanding service. Brunch in Old Montreal was a treat as we were joined by a friend from Toronto currently working in Montreal. He recommended Restaurant Dandy and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the almost one hour wait (and I never wait!). Bright and airy with friendly service, I indulged myself with the house specialty; ricotta pancakes with cinnamon roasted apples along with a side of smoky maple bacon. The tanginess of the ricotta paired with the sweetness of the roasted apples and maple syrup brought that sweet savoury twist, so simple yet truly outstanding.
Another outstanding experience was at Bazart. This sprawling complex encompasses gourmet cuisine, open air art gallery, NFT gallery and a craft market all in a Mediterranean inspired space. It’s like a huge cocktail party as guests eat, visit, browse art and shop. Cocktails? The recently renovated Fairmont Queen Elizabeth brings a chic rooftop patio; Nacarat is a chic respite above bustling Boulevard Rene Levesque. Spectacular city views compliment the incredible cocktail menu. Montreal is the full deal, French sophistication meets Canadian comfort. What a wonderful way to celebrate love in one of the country’s oldest cities, truly romantic!

'TIL DEATH DO US PART
Megs & Devin
TELL US ABOUT HOW AND WHERE YOU MET: We met on Tinder. We can both agree that we weren’t even really looking into getting into a relationship. Tinder is something I think most single people explore to occupy themselves. At the time we moved incredibly slow really taking the time to get to know each other and never actually met until about 3 months of chatting online. When we met in person at WEM we were both extremely nervous and shy but by the end of the date we were doing car karaoke and stayed up pretty much all night hanging out. After our first date we’ve pretty much been inseparable ever since. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER? Just over 5 years! Going to be 6 in October this year. HOW DID YOU KNOW IT WAS THE RIGHT TIME? We faced a lot of obstacles in our relationship very early on and we were also put in situations where we had no choice but to trust and rely on each other and it brought us so close together that we created this crazy bond and we both just knew we were going to marry each other, besties for life. We are so different yet exactly the same. We finish each other’s sentences; he knows what I’m thinking and feeling vice versa. TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL: Well, we’ve always dreamt about creating a life together and building our dream home but of course, like getting married, these things take time. But after all the hard work and sacrifice we are finally in the middle of building our dream home. We used to drive by these crazy houses and dream about building our own it’s insane. Nevertheless, one fall day in October Devin took me to see our house in the framing stages like we do every day and Parker (my stepson) was with us as the sun was setting. Our soon to be home faces the North Saskatchewan River and has this crazy view and when I was looking away, he got down on one knee while parker filmed it. The rest is history! It was thoughtful, simple, organic, and perfect. WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR IN YOUR FUTURE TOGETHER? We are excited for everything haha We are both growing businesses together and have plans to start new ones in the future. We are excited for Parker to get older so we can travel the world as a family. We’ve been working so hard on building a strong foundation and can’t wait to share the rest of our lives together.

THE UNCONVENTIONAL BRIDE What does being an unconventional bride mean to you? This is such a personal question because the answer really depends on what kind of brides you saw growing up, and what types of weddings you attended leading up to your own big day. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines the word “unconventional” as meaning “not conventional: not bound by or in accordance with convention: being out of the ordinary.” To most people, an ordinary bride is a bride who wears the traditional long white gown, white shoes, white veil, and perhaps a little white jacket or stole if she’s a winter bride.
There is a range of what one could consider to be a departure from convention, and some aspects of bridal fashion can be a subtle departure from the conventional, while others can go all the way. My earliest memory of an unconventional bride was when Sarah Jessica Parker married Matthew Broderick in 1997, and she wore a black wedding dress. In 2006, she told Marie Claire that she regrets having worn black on her wedding day, explaining that their wedding was a surprise event, and she didn’t want to attract attention by
shopping for a white dress. Her choice was a black ruffled Morgane Le Fay gown, and she has been consistently quoted as saying that choosing to wear black is the one thing she regrets about her wedding day. In fact, in 2009 she told Harper’s Bazaar that if she and Matthew were to renew their vows today, the one thing she would do differently is that she would wear a white wedding dress: “I’d wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress like I should have worn that day.” That is a powerful statement, coming from an actress known for taking fashion risks both on and off-screen.
On October 23, 2021, another pair of actors tied the knot, this time in Malibu, and every detail of their goth-themed wedding defied convention, right down to the aerial view of the tables, laid out in the shape of crucifixes. Courtney Hope, an actress whom I love to hate on The Young & the Restless, married Chad Duell of General Hospital in a brilliant red lace gown and veil. Designed by Adolfo Sanchez, Courtney’s head-to-toe flame-red wedding gown had a fitted bodice and a full tulle skirt, which later converted into a sexy high-low dress with matching red lace leggings for the reception. These bridal fashion choices were anything but subtle and were deliberate choices made by the bride to express her sense of self on her wedding day. Recently, Meghan O-Toole King, a former Real Housewife of Orange County, married United States President Joe Biden’s nephew Cuffe Owens in an ivory mini satin blazer dress by Rosario, cream Dolce & Gabbana lace gloves, a mini beaded veil across her eyes and forehead, and classic sapphire blue Hangisi pumps by Manolo Blahnik. As she told People, Meghan “just decided to wear what felt most like ‘me.’” This being her third wedding, Meghan had more experience than the average bride, as well as more latitude in terms of the expectation surrounding her dress. She pulled off a look that was traditional in the use of colour and fabric, yet of the moment in terms of style, and the blue shoes grounded her look in confidence. This bridal look could be considered a happy medium between tradition and a departure from the norm, and people of an older generation might say that she had that latitude because this was not her first wedding, but in reality, any bride, first wedding or not, has the ability to defy convention. Beloved actress Kaley Cuoco is another example of a bride who defied convention, for both of her weddings. When she married Ryan Sweeting in 2014, Kaley wore a candy pink confection by Vera Wang, with a fitted strapless bodice, sweetheart neckline, and full tulle skirt. Her dress conveyed youthful exuberance, innocence, and her sense of fun. In 2018, Kaley again bucked tradition, but in a more subtle way. When she wed Karl Cook, she chose two non-traditional yet fashion-forward ensembles: She walked down the aisle wearing a long ivory lace gown by Reem Acra, and instead of a veil, she opted for a lace cape that modestly covered her shoulders, and later she enjoyed her reception in an ivory lace jumpsuit by Tadashi Shoji with a plunging neckline, paired with classic, pointed-toe ivory leather pumps.
B 75
The romper and skirt wedding gown combination is another example of how brides can dress to reflect their individuality. Take, for example, Amanda Kloots, who married the late Broadway star Nick Cordero in 2017. Amanda had been a professional dancer, a Rockette, and she wanted her wedding gown to reflect this aspect of her identity, and of course to show off her incredibly beautiful legs, something she had never seen a bride wear before. For the wedding ceremony, she selected a design by Lee Grebenau, which consisted of a sheer leotardstyle bodice with lace overlay, and a diaphanous gold metallic skirt and train. For the couple’s first dance, she changed into a white lace Mark Zunino romper with a light tulle skirt that floated open at the front to fully reveal her long, toned dancer’s legs. Her bridal flowers were white, her wedding gown and romper were essentially white, yet the designs she chose were uncommon and interesting, becoming classic in their own right. What are some ways that brides can add a touch of interest to their wedding day looks without going as far as some of these celebrity brides? Maybe today’s bride would wear a beautiful, traditional white lace and tulle wedding gown, then accessorize with a black leather moto jacket and
B 76
chain-accented black leather motorcycle boots. She might even put on a pair of thick black sunglasses to add that extra edge. These are details that can be played up in some of the wedding photographs, then pared down in the more traditional wedding photos, should the bride so desire. Another very of-the-moment accessory is a fake fur chubby in a pastel hue, such as lavender. A little jacket like this can be practical and add a sense of youthful fun to the big day. Perhaps the bridal party could all wear a little matching jacket to complement the bride. The possibilities are endless because there is no exact and perfect wedding dress code for today’s modern bride. What does Caroline Vazzana, New York City’s style maven, clothing designer, and author of Making It in Manhattan have to say about the unconventional bride? “For me when it comes to bridal style, I’m trying to remind myself to let go of the “rules” we’ve been taught all of our lives. I truly believe there are no rules when it comes to fashion and the same should be applied to bridal fashion! Whether it’s wearing a pink shoe, a light pink dress, a short dress, a sequin dress, or even glasses to your wedding like me- this is your big day so do whatever feels best to you!” This is great advice. Where was Caroline when I was getting married? If I were to get married again, I would probably choose a knee-length ivory silk slip dress and a gently oversized ivory blazer, with my hair in a loose and gentle updo. Then again, I might wear a slim-cut ivory pantsuit with a camisole top, satin trim and impossibly high pointy-toes shoes, plus a vintage tiara. I might even risk it all and wear the blazer backwards like Celine Dion, with nothing underneath. Or maybe I would wear a lace dress and a white leather moto jacket, because why not? Better yet, if I were to get married on a boat or on a beach, I might even wear a white and gold bathing suit with a floaty tulle skirt over top. The possibilities are endless, no matter what the bride’s age and irrespective of the venue. Today’s brides have choices available to suit every price range and every body type. Local designers are easier to find, thanks to social media, and online shopping can facilitate choosing accessories for brides who live in smaller urban centres. Let’s be clear: There is something to be said for tradition, and classic bridal gown shapes and colours will never go
out of style. However, brides today have license to choose bridal fashion that reflects their individuality, that conveys their ethos, in a way that was not always possible. If a bride wants to wear a pastel fake fur chubby, she can. Why not? The bride wants to walk down the aisle in a pair of naughty-looking studded motorcycle boots? Who is going to stop her? She wants to incorporate a giant blue bird into her updo à la Carrie Bradshaw in the first Sex and the City movie? We dare you to try and stop her. Those motorcycle boots are going to dance up and down the tables at the reception, and when she’s done dancing, the bride is going to swing that fake fur jacket and toss it into the crowd of female guests instead of a garter. And seriously, the bird? Today’s bride dares you to say no to that bird. STYLED BY: The Bridal Fantasy Team CREATIVE DIRECTION:

2022 BRIDESMAID DRESS TRENDS B 78
90’s Inspiration When it comes to bridesmaid dresses this year, we will see fabrics such as satin and crushed velvet making a comeback. Clean and modern silhouettes, like the iconic ‘90s slip dress, will leave your girls with images of Posh Spice in her heyday. These dresses can be customized with minimalist details such as square necklines, spaghetti straps, and lace-up backs.
Ruffles With the 2021 obsession with Bridgerton, romantic ruffles and Victorian-inspired styles have been popping up with many designers. These dresses will range anywhere from soft and romantic to structured and architectural, giving each bridesmaid their fashion moment. The ruffles can be placed anywhere on the dress, from flouncy tops to ruffled hems.
Mix Without the Match Everyone has become so used to seeing solid-coloured dresses for years, but 2022 will be the year of mixing and not matching. We will start seeing prints and solids in complimentary palettes to create a cohesive look across bridal parties. When it comes to the patterns, be on the look-out for very grand millennial-wallpaperinspired prints, monochromatic prints, and solids mixed with sequins.
Neutrals This trend has been around for a while but will continue into the new year. The reason neutrals have become so popular is that they will work in any location or season, giving you flexibility in the event you need to change your plans. We’re moving away from traditional brightly coloured dresses and embracing colours such as champagnes, grays, and taupe.
All Black Everything While not a new trend by any means, all black bridal parties are one of the most evergreen options you can go with. But keep in mind with this option that you’re cross-checking the dresses to make sure they will look okay when photographed together. One shade of black that is slightly different than all the others can ruin the vibe and your photos.

How did you meet? AMBER: Mutual friends suggested to me that Dave and I would be perfect for each other. The friends reached out to dave and said we should meet! Nothing came of it right away, however, Dave reached out to me weeks later and asked to hire me for a marketing project. We met for the first time to work on the campaign and had our first date shortly after. Those same friends played an important role in our love story and on our wedding day! How long have you been married/together? AMBER & DAVE: We have been together since September 2018, and we married on October 8th, 2021.
B
When did you realize you were in love with your partner? What happened? AMBER: I realized very quickly I loved Dave, we moved as a team immediately. They say, when you know, you know!
W E D D I N G WAT C H

DAVE: We spent pretty much every day together since our first date, and
prior to meeting each other, we talked on the phone every day for two weeks. Our relationship moved quickly. I said I love you within the first three weeks of being together, and we moved in together after dating for only three months. I remember saying I love you for the first time like it was yesterday. She was so patient with me as I worked long hours somehow she just understood me and was there by my side when I needed her most; one night, after a long workday, we went out for sushi, and during dinner, I had to work on a project. She helped me, afterwards we went home and started a fire in our vintage fireplace, and the words I Love you just flowed out of me. She is a regal woman, and I fell in love with her kindness, intelligence, and beauty on our first date. What are the three most important components of your relationship (i.e.: spirituality, honesty, etc.)? AMBER: Communication is the base of our relationship. We feel comfortable sharing the little thing and the big ones! We are extremely supportive of each others goals and dreams, whatever we can do to be supportive, we do it. DAVE: The most important part of our relationship is not having any
toxicity, some people thrive on highs and lows, we thrive together because of how calm and secure we make each other feel, when you truly respect one another, and you don’t leave any room for error. What sort of routines or traditions do you hold in high regard (i.e. eating dinner together at the table, phones put away, etc.)? AMBER: We make dates a priority. From going for coffee and connecting for an hour to fancier dates. The calibre of date itself is not the point; it’s eliminating distractions, focusing on meaningful conversations, and experiencing something together.
Amber &Dave
DAVE: We make it a priority to travel together, and to experience new
things. We both have a love for culinary, art, and site-seeing. Every year, and yes even through Covid, we’ve travelled, we go and explore the world and when we couldn’t travel abroad, we visited random parts of Canada. One of our traditions is we purchase a keepsake, a piece of décor or art to remember that trip. What is the best piece of relationship advice someone has ever given you? DAVE: You first must love and know yourself, before you can love someone else, you must feel comfortable alone before you truly meet the person you’re meant to be with. People tend to become the person they think their partner wants them to be, being truthful to yourself first is important.

Suzy &Colin Colin and I met while both working a show at a local venue, 99ten. I was the DJ, he was the sound engineer. We talked all night. The conversation flowed, we both love music, psychology & business and at the end of the night, he asked me out on a date. Our relationship blossomed during the pandemic.. through difficult times our love grew stronger. We both made our livelihoods in the music, entertainment and hospitality industry. Lockdowns and closures meant we were out of work and stuck at home, just the two of us and a fur baby. Self care and caring for each other became our number one priority. Connecting with nature, meditation, exercise and healthy eating prepared us to cope with the challenging decisions ahead. On August 16, 2020, Colin planned a special hike & picnic for my birthday. Normally we would chat about life, goals, and dreams but he was very quiet that day. We hiked from Hawrelak park to the “End of the World” lookout point. A popular spot for photos & meetups – we sat down, enjoyed the view and a snack. Finally, the people cleared out and we walked over for our moment to snap a photo. I turned around and he was on one knee with a ring in hand!!!! I said YES!!! The pandemic has reminded us how precious life is. We decided to move forward with a “small” backyard wedding on August 21, 2021. The theme: garden chic: romantic and dreamy (just like us), with lots of greenery and flowers. We wanted to dance under the moon and stars with the grass at our feet. January till August was a whirlwind, as our family and friends helped us get all of the pieces together to pull off a magical D.I.Y. backyard wedding. Restrictions had lifted and our guestlist grew from 20 to 85 of our nearest and dearest loved ones (some of whom we’d only met on Zoom calls). The day arrived and all worries melted away. I was finally marrying my person! While guests arrived a dear friend played acoustic covers of pop songs followed by a beautiful rendition of Clare De Lune on the piano as we walked down the aisle. It set the tone for a majestic ceremony and fairytale-like evening. With the help of our loved ones and many local businesses, we transformed the backyard into a cozy secret garden, with high fashion flair. Guests loved the expertly crafted cocktails and the music - a combination of indie & classic rock, electronic, soul and disco. The intimate occasion was the first gathering in sometime for most guests - we felt so lucky to be the reason for a group of amazing people coming together. Warmth poured from everyone’s hearts, and for one day we left our troubles aside to appreciate & celebrate the most important part of life - the people we love!

Hannah &Colten Colten and I met at Ponoka Stampede in the summer of 2019. With a few moves in between, we have now settled in Edmonton with our dog Duke. Having our wedding out at my mom and stepdad’s farm, in Sturgeon County, was very special to us as that was the place we first started dating, and also got engaged. The engagement was definitely a surprise, as Colten took me out for a walk and a picnic, then proposed around a heart shaped fire pit. The planning process was truly enjoyable and stress-free thanks to our planner Jennifer. She knew exactly what our vision was for the wedding and brought it to life! The theme we followed for our wedding was “Rustic Country”, with lots of greenery and soft pinks and blues. The day consisted of many (happy) tears, laughs, amazing food and drinks, and lots of dancing, finished by a huge firework show. Our photographer and videographer, Montse and Adrian (OM Storytelling), were such a pleasure to work with and showcased our day perfectly. Although it was a smaller wedding due to COVID, we still got to celebrate with all our loved ones and good friends. Thanks to our planner and amazing vendors, we had the most perfect day!

Genevieve &Joshua We met at our old job. It was my (Genevieve’s) first day of fulltime work as an accountant and we met at one of the morning/ afternoon tea breaks. We were in the same group at work and sat across from each other for the first year. We both felt an instant connection when we first met and knew we had to get to know each other better. We were just work friends for almost a year before we kissed one night at a bar and the rest is history! Josh organized a picnic at Polperro Winery. He hadn’t made it obvious he was going to propose because he lied and said it was a Groupon deal! It was also unsuspecting because Josh is always doing sweet things like this! The whole time I was thinking of how good a Groupon deal it was haha. We got there early at around 12pm so there wasn’t anyone there yet and set up our picnic at a nice secluded spot near the water. We set up the picnic and then
he got the ring box out of his jacket pocket and proposed! It was better than I could have ever imagined but the beautiful picnic food went to waste because we both weren’t hungry after he popped the question – there was too much excitement! We were engaged for 9 months – we were initially planning on getting married in September 2020 but Immerse had a deal on for a couple of Thursday dates towards the end of 2019 so we thought why not! We loved having a shorter engagement, it kept the excitement from the proposal going the whole way until the big day and wasn’t hard to plan within that timeframe at all.

Legendary Fashion Supermodel, Iman once famously proclaimed, “glamour never takes a day off”. Glamour does not only encapsulate what one wears, but their state of mind. It has a unique ability to tell the most compelling story while provoking thought and interest. Glamour is enchantment, magic and certainly defines the world of luxury. There was a time period recently where it lost its lustre. The pandemic prioritized comfort, elasticized waistbands and the athleisure trend ruled our personal runways. Now, we are seeing a collective desire to feel good and return to channeling an oh-so-fabulous decadent state of mind: Elizabeth Taylor as the queen of diamonds (and husbands). Audrey Hepburn and her stunning little black dress. And, who could forget Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw’s Vivienne Westwood wedding dress kick her sweet vintage suit to the curb? As a Celebrity Fashion Stylist, I am enamoured with this world of opulence and fantasy. I always tell people that I’ve never met a ballgown, feather or a sequin that I didn’t love. Everything I do starts with telling a compelling story. From working on red carpet projects with clients like Academy Award winning actress, Youn Yuh-Jung for the Critic’s Choice Awards, to editorial feature’s with Mortal Kombat star, Ludi Lin in Rolling Stone or on a cover story featuring Marvel’s Hawkeye star, Aleks Paunovic. Each and every part has to be balanced, working together in harmony to create the perfect moment and produce the most stunning image. As it turns out, getting dressed for a red carpet event, like the Oscars, isn't all that different from getting dressed for a wedding. In fact, it is oh-so-similar: the pressure is on to look good because the event will be heavily documented (hello flashbulbs everywhere) and cemented in history, emotions are high and it will truly be a once in a lifetime experience. A luxury wedding will take their guests on a journey from start to finish and it is crucial to have the right look. And, as a guest, each has a lead role to play to pull of the perfect look to honour their loved ones red carpet day.
Know your audience It is an absolute must to know where the event is being held and the specific dress code. For example, if the event is white tie, think the most formal dress you can imagine. For women, a floor
length evening dress and for the men, a tuxedo with tails. Black tie would allow perhaps a cocktail dress or elegant pantsuit. The invitation will inform of all dress code details so be prepared to follow the etiquette.
Be authentic According to designer, Michael Halpern, “Authenticity is the most important thing when it comes to glamour” and I could not agree more. You want to make pieces that perhaps you would not traditionally wear feel like they are an extension of your style and ensuring it is not a costume for that occasion. A classic never goes out of style.
Refine your look. Keep one element of your look pared back, whether that is teaming a bustier with sleek pant, keeping the hair and make-up very undone or dialling down the jewellery with a traditional gown or cocktail dress.
Have some fun One of the most joyous occasions is a wedding and this summer everyone will be ready to celebrate. A great way to enfuse fun into your look is with an interesting clutch, think a Judith Leiber Swan Crystal Encrusted piece or with a hair accessory like a Prada puffy oversize headband. The best tip, however, always remember that glamour never fails. SARAH D’ARCEY is a Celebrity Fashion
Stylist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sarah is known for her creativity and discerning eye for style, which is shown through her accomplished portfolio featuring celebrities, musicians, models, and professionals. She has styled award-winning campaigns, more fashion editorials than she can count, and buzz-worthy red-carpet looks. Sarah is passionate about supporting Canadian designers and educating her clients on the importance of living with fewer, better things when it comes to their wardrobes.

MEET THE JESPERSENS How did you meet? We met in a media scrum in Red Deer in 2004. We were both working as news reporters for competing radio stations, which made for an interesting dynamic out of the gates! There was an immediate attraction, but one of us (Kari) wasn't "on the market," so to speak, so it took a while for our eventual love to blossom.
What I love about our spirit/ spirituality. We operate very much "in tune" with each other. We experienced similar upbringings, and on the "spirituality" front, our journeys have aligned. The dynamic of our relationship is an inquisitive, openminded one, and it makes for interesting, challenging, enriching conversations.
How long have you been together/ married? We dated for a couple of years before getting married at Playa Potrero, Costa Rica on March 22, 2009.
The three most important components of our relationship are honesty, integrity, and mutual respect.
When did you realize you were in love with your partner? We shared a very memorable moment relatively early in our dating life. Sitting in a Red Deer lounge, sipping on martinis, I (Ryan) realized I'd never felt "this way" about anybody before, and the words "I'm falling in love with you" just spilled out! You can imagine my relief when the sentiment was reciprocated!
What sort of routines or traditions do you hold in high regard? We dedicate specific family time each week, where we focus solely on each other, and quality moments without interruption. We cherish meals around the family dinner table, which was my maternal grandparents' table for decades before we inherited it. It's a special piece that's seen many meaningful moments! We love to stay active as a family (skating, snowboarding, dog walking), and we love to debrief together in the hot tub after a long day. (Our six-yearold son Wyatt controls the jets!)
What is the best piece of relationship advice anyone has ever given you? Listen. Truly listen. Do you have children? Our son Wyatt is six, and he's excited to be a big brother in June 2022! (No, we don't know if it's a boy or a girl...) What aspect of your relationship changed after you had children, and how much? Of course, adding a child to the mix changes virtually everything, but the changes were all for the good! We've spent more time together as a family unit, our "downtime" is much more precious (and frequent), and our communication and collaboration ("teamwork") has dramatically improved... Because it has to when you become a parent! We've prioritized date nights whenever possible, to ensure we still share quality time as a couple. What was your most meaningful moment of true relationship inspiration? I'll never forget our trip to Chicago in 2007. Kari surprised me for my 40th birthday, and it was an incredible four days together. An outdoor concert (Jack Johnson), a Cubs game, improv at the famed
L OV E A N T H R O P O L O G Y
Second City, and the most wonderful meals you can possibly imagine. It was a magical time together, where the friendship side of our relationship really deepened. That trip reminded me how much fun we have together and felt a lot like our early dating days. What is the biggest hurdle you've overcome in your relationship? We've experienced challenges around pregnancy, which can be very difficult. We lost a baby before Wyatt, and it took us quite some time to become pregnant with our current little one. We've navigated grief, despair, frustration, and disappointment together, and ultimately, it's forged a bond that's tough to describe.
B RYAN JESPERSEN hosts
Real Talk Ryan Jespersen, one of Canada's mostdownloaded talk shows. You can check it out at ryanjespersen.com and find him on Twitter and Instagram @ryanjespersen.
When you argue, how do you best deal with the issue? We don't argue the same way, and we've realized we need to keep respect paramount, even when we're frustrated with each other. I (Ryan) prefer to hit issues head-on and "right now," while Kari prefers to take a step back, reflect, then check in with each other after some time has passed. Respecting each other's boundaries has been a big part of improving our communication, and ultimately, strengthening our relationship. What is your favourite quality about your partner? Ryan: I absolutely adore Kari's commitment to the people she loves. She's selfless, thoughtful, and very generous with her support. Kari: I love Ryan's passion. Everything he does in life is "all in," with his whole heart. Has your marriage made you a more balanced person? Without a doubt. It's cliche, but it feels like we're a perfect fit. I'm more social (I'd be out on the town seven nights a week if possible), while Kari values time together at home a great deal. I'm right at home in big groups, while Kari prefers more one-onone time with her friends. I'm not great at self-care. I run myself ragged. Kari has probably saved my life in that regard. How do you approach problems or situations together to find the best solution? We take as much time as an issue demands and commit to thoughtful debate and discussion. We keep communication channels open and respectful, and truly consider the other person's perspective. Ultimately, we determine a course of action that both of us can support. It's not always easy, but it's what works for us.
KARI SKELTON is a lifestylist and blogger at KariSkelton. com, an online community focused on fashion, family, and fun! A former radio and TV personality, you can follow Kari on Instagram and Twitter @KariSkelton.
How much does compromise factor into a relationship? Huge! Every day! All the time! On issues big and small! Both of us are pretty accommodating to the others' needs, but that doesn't mean each of us don't dig our heels in from time to time! (We're currently long-listing potential names for our baby on the way...there's been a few "veto power" moments!)
Does the passion/energy of your relationship translate into other things you do? Without a doubt. We're passionate people - it's just the way we're wired. When we commit to something, we take that commitment seriously, whether it's people we love, causes we support, or projects we undertake. We don't know any other way!
Was it compromise, love, or both that held you together? Without love, we wouldn't be together in the first place. Without compromise, we wouldn't still be together. We'll say both!
Have you ever gone to marriage counselling, and if so, did it help your relationship? We've spoken with a counsellor on a few occasions, and it's been a positive experience. We didn't have big issues to "fix," per se, but it was a beneficial opportunity to see issues through each other's eyes with a moderator guiding us through. We've really committed to developing strong communication, and this was a helpful step relatively early in our marriage. We had some of the tools, but we didn't necessarily know how (or when) to use them. We believe everybody can benefit from counseling, regardless of their situation. Truly, society's attitudes around positive mental health and healthy relationships are moving in a positive direction!
Describe some of the changes your marriage has gone through over the years. We've learned to appreciate what each individual needs to flourish. Sometimes, it's quality time together. Sometimes, it's quality time alone. Our communication has improved immensely, which has taken a lot of work and commitment. We're both big personalities, which led to some dramatic moments early in our relationship. The boat feels like it sails in calmer waters these days.

Be Prepared to Win When Life Challenges Your Love
Covid and Love squared off in 2020 and loving couples cancelled or postponed their much anticipated weddings. It looked as if Covid won that first round. No wait, love came off the ropes for the knockout, as so many couples got creative and turned to outdoor, online and hepa filtered worship places with open doors and windows thrown in to be extra safe! Turns out Covid can't stop love after all. However my darlings you alone can stop love in its tracks if you aren't prepared for the twists and turns life will throw at you. Covid was just a test. Here’s what you need to know. First you will face challenges. Either you will meet them or you will fail. It’s not unfair, it’s what life is for; to help grow and develop our capacity to meet the unexpected, the difficult and the twists and turns of life. I know because during Covid, more couples than ever have been joining our Modern Love Trainings to support them and get them back on track during these challenging times. You need the proper skills or its game over for you and your love. Here you go: Love Preserver # 1. Practice communicating fully every day. It sounds like this: “Today I felt happy, just Ok, lonely, tired, sad, horny”, all feelings are fair game Listener responds, “I love it when you share everything you are feeling with me, it helps me feel closer to you.” By the way, that’s the key to intimacy
Noted psychologist and expert for the B Dr. Oz show and numerous national 119 TV programs.
#2 Get over yourself quickly. Maybe you feel annoyed, irritated or flat out angry. Go sit with it, figure out what you are really upset about; it's never what you really think. Then go back to your partner and make a request. For example, “I’m actually hurt that you weren't here when I came home, it reminded me of coming home alone when I was a child. What I want is to be close to you, let's hug it out”.
#5 Keep learning and growing together. Research shows, the number one thing couples can do to keep marriages strong is to keep learning together, whether it is cooking, dancing, traveling, reading or even shopping for new lingerie and undies together. Be sure to include refreshing your relationship every year with couples retreats and modern love training and education. Couples that learn and grow together have the strongest, most satisfying relationships over a lifetime. Follow these steps and your love is fortified to weather any storms that come your way. Happy Sailing!

F I R S T C OM E S L OV E Nursery Decorating Trends to Watch in 2022 B 124
There are few things in life quite as exciting as a new addition to the family, and with a nursery quickly becoming one of the spaces you will be spending the most time in, there is an opportunity to take your creativity for your home to the next level when welcoming a new baby to the family. Getting used to the new normal has meant relying on our homes as a sanctuary and paying special attention to our interior design and decorating choices. Setting up a nursery in 2022 means imagination, play, and positivity. Decorating and personalizing the nursery is a deeply personal process that allows new parents to develop a space of warmth, love, exploration, and relaxation that tells a unique story for every family. When it comes to nurseries, the sky is the limit for design inspiration. Start by making a vision board, defining your style and direction, locating items that spark joy, and dive into the enriching process of building the room where you will always remember your baby’s first months. Here are three nursery decorating trends to follow this year: 1. GENDER NEUTRAL NURSERY ROOMS
If you are waiting to find out the gender of your baby or prefer to create a beautifully neutral space where gender stereotypes aren’t the design theme of your nursery, there are limitless options from subtle and neutral to bright and bold. Neutral and muted color palettes keep the space feeling airy and non-gender specific, while introducing a rainbow of bright colors to an all-white space can also be beautiful, without compromising a genderneutral approach. Add interest by incorporating a mixture of classically masculine and feminine textures, colors, patterns, shapes, and objects. Remember, simple is chic and good design is all in the details! Personalize the space by adding in playful elements, childhood treasures and whimsical accessories. Decorative features such as wallpaper with patterns, color pallets of slate blues, sage greens, lavenders, greiges, yellows, earth tones and neutrals are fitting for children of any gender and offer tons of room to play. 2. MINIMALIST AND MODERN
If you’re a minimalist at heart, and love to keep your house simple, elegant, and clean, you can create an exceptional space, without stepping out of your taste and comfort zone. A palette of greys, mixed
with white details, gold accents and wood furniture looks ultra-sleek, with a splash of color from art or a photograph hanging on the wall adds interest and depth. Possibilities are endless when choosing art for your nursery and it by no means needs to be standard animal prints. Watercolor illustrations or playful drawings can be simple, adorable, and comforting to you and your child. 3. MODERN RAINBOW THEMES
Nothing signals pure joy and fun quite like a rainbow or a plethora of color in a nursery. Decorating the nursery around a rainbow theme allows the room to become as bright or as muted in tone as the parents choose. From subtle, watercolor painted wall decals to bright color coordinated shelving, there are endless options when playing with color combinations and centralizing your room around cheerful, rainbow color schemes.
Color Palettes Set the Mood
When picking your color palette, regardless of the room’s theme, it is important to keep in mind the psychological effects of different colors and tones. Warmer colors, like yellows, pinks, and reds are known to spark happiness and energy in the brain. These colors set a positive and welcoming tone but aren’t necessarily associated with sleep and rest. Cooler colors, on the other hand, such as greens and blues, are known to have a calming effect on the mind, inviting a feeling of sleep, rest, and relaxation to the space. Subtle shades of green have been making a resurgence, in particular, as the color works in a gender-neutral context and is psychologically associated with health and well-being. Nurseries tend to use softer, pastel shades to keep a calming, muted, and nurturing feel, regardless of the color chosen. For example, pale shades of blue are known to lower blood pressure, slow the heart, and allow relaxation to occur. On the other hand, darker deeper blues can have an energizing effect, so even when you are picking relaxing colors, stick with the lighter shades. White and gold colored nurseries have been gaining popularity as they give off a simple, relaxing, and mature look. For parents who want to keep a muted tone, earthy neutrals like light beiges are great for creating a relaxing environment, as these tones let the baby’s eyes
rest. Light greys also make a great background color, psychologically providing a space of contemplation, while also offering a neutral canvas on which parents can decorate with any variety of images, pictures, and toys.
Feature statement pieces Regardless of the color scheme or decorative theme, there are some key items that are a musthave in all nursery rooms and in 2022, the classic light fixture or crib can take on a new creative and personalized twist with some of the newest design trends. Consider including: • Statement lighting: A unique and playful light fixture at the center of the room can set the tone in a pastel or neutral toned space. From playful chandeliers, muted shades, and themed fixtures that include animals, stars and moons, or shapes. Statement lighting has the potential to be the signature design element. • Curved furniture: Using a rounded crib, a mobile, circular stool and ottoman, or rounded canopy adds dimension, creativity, and a flexible feel to any nursery space. • Customized glider chairs: Get your chair upholstered with a playful or patterned fabric that coordinates to the toys, pictures, or wallpaper in your nursery room, adding a splash of fun to a traditional item. No matter how you choose to decorate your baby’s nursery, remember to surround yourself with items that bring joy into your life and add touches of personalization while you create memories for years to come.

H A PPI E S T AT H OM E If you’re one of the many who has decided that 2022 will be the year for an update to where you live and a change of scenery, you are not alone. The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly shifted perspectives, especially when it comes to what’s most important in a home. What once might have a been a supporting character in your life, has now become a sort of center stage. With so many people working from home, discovering new passions & hobbies which require new spaces, families who have switched to home schooling, those who adopted a dog or two, and so much more. “Out with the old, in with the new” couldn’t be more fitting as we all navigate our new normal. A little design enhancement to your space can make a huge difference while many are choosing to start fresh in a new space, all together. It’s important to make sure that your home evolves with your lifestyle, and this can be achieved through intentional arrangement choices and careful selection during your home buying process.
Open and Intimate Open concept spaces are continuing to be among the most desirable framework in 2022, though, homeowners are starting to crave intimate spaces within this layout. Stylish dividers can be installed in any room to create a sense of privacy and distinction. For example, if you don’t have a spare room to dedicate into a home office, a stylish divider is the perfect way to create a secluded space so you can focus on the work
at-hand. Dividers can be made of wood, metal, or glass, and fit just about any aesthetic. From bold statement pieces to versatile subtle design, the possibilities are endless. The best part? Dividers can be temporary, thus allowing you to change the space, when needed.
Sustainable Furniture
We are more consistently seeing homeowners move towards using sustainable furniture. Not only is upcycling or thrifting more eco-friendly, but with the supply chain issues experienced during the pandemic, many don’t want to wait months on end for a piece of furniture. When purchasing furniture with a new home is not an option, thrifting or purchasing unique antique statement pieces allows you to show your personality, and incorporate pieces that tell a story, unique to you. This creates interest to your home and adds warmth in the spaces you now spend more time in.
Minimalism and Warm Tones
In an unrelated way to escape the chaos that has been the pandemic, many are moving towards more minimalistic designs inside the home. This focuses on creating an uncluttered, simplistic space that emits a sense of calm. Instead of flashy, statement pieces, furniture is more modern, and colors are warm and neutral in tone. This is popular in bedrooms, home offices, and living spaces in your home. Together, all of these design concepts can reflect our personality, lifestyles, and passions. Want to put an antique mirror in your home gym? Go for
it! Want to put up a stylish divider for a reading nook? Perfect idea! Want your home office to be minimalistic, unlike your email inbox? Fabulous! It’s no secret that we all are the happiest at home. A home is a haven for our souls. It’s a place we can be authentically ourselves, a space to create lasting memories with the ones we love, and a constant comfort where we can safely lay our heads. It’s our uniquely, individualized, piece of paradise.
