DALE BRISBY’S Dale Brisby uses social media savvy and rodeo skills to keep cowboy traditions alive — and now he's teaching the world how to cowboy right, ol' son. Netflix has a new cowboy-themed show, but it's not the western adventure you might expect. From the looks of it, How to Be a Cowboy is framed like a reality show starring ranch manager, rodeo star and social media sensation Dale Brisby. The show premiered on Sept. 1, 2021.
In How to Be a Cowboy, "Dale Brisby uses social media savvy and rodeo skills to keep cowboy traditions alive — and now he's teaching the world how to cowboy right." Brisby has become a massive success on social media, particularly on YouTube where he hosts a show called Rodeo Time. Brisby is the ranch manager at Radiator Ranch Cattle Company and at Brightstar Ranch. He is also the CEO of Rodeo Time Inc. Now, he is bringing all that experience to bear on a new Netflix show, and the trailer may leave new fans a bit confused. At first glance, this trailer seems like it could be reality TV, parody or perhaps even a light-hearted docu-series. That just goes to show how much larger than life Brisby is — he has a catchphrase for every situation, including the one where he becomes a Netflix star. According to a report by Y95 Country, it's not just empty boasting. Brisby is a real rodeo competitor and bull-rider. He also has a real Master's degree in Agriculture from Texas A&M University. Somewhere in that tangle of skills, he has also become a social media expert, boasting over 696,000 followers on Instagram. His bio there lists him as a "comedian," with the added qualifier: "I'm a joke, Jesus is not." Brisby is much more active on YouTube, where Rodeo Time is still going strong apparently alongside How to Be a Cowboy. It's not clear how much crossover the two shows may have, but Netflix is known to mine internet sensations for its content. It is doing so more and more these days with mixed results. Some commenters predicted that this show would be one of the flops. One person wrote: "They didn't renew GLOW but they're adding this s—. WTF." Another added: "Why am I getting Tiger King vibes from this?" However, most comments came from enthusiastic fans who were already familiar with Brisby's work. "I'm ready for it! I'm curious why all the hateful Karens feel the need to comment. Those of us that support all things Dale really don't care what you think," one person proclaimed. Another wrote: "This is gonna be good! People need to teach about the rodeo/ranching way of living every chance they can. Humor added in is always a plus. Keep up the good work and teaching about the Lord too." A third person added: "Yessss I cannot wait! This show is going to be so good! Literally, a dream come true for me that Dale makes a show!" How to Be a Cowboy premiered on Sept. 1 on Netflix. Brisby's YouTube show Rodeo Time continues to air regularly in the meantime.

$725,000 Filly Tops Fults Ranch Absolute Reduction
The morning of the Fults Ranch Absolute Reduction Sale, co-owner Alvin Fults looked around the ranch and wondered: Was anyone going to show up? He need not have worried. Buyers began streaming into the ranch south of Amarillo, Texas, as soon as the gates opened at noon. By the end of the day, Fults and his wife, Becky, watched several horses bring six figures –– including two full sisters by Stevie Rey Von and out of the famed Sweet Abra – who sold for a whopping $725,000 and $500,000. The success of the sale, throngs of buyers and to see how good the youngsters looked walking through the show ring was bittersweet, Alvin Fults said afterward. The horses going through the reduction represented the second major breeding program the Fults’s had built. This one was around National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Open Champion Stevie Rey Von, whose first foals reached futurity age this year. Previously, Alvin and Becky launched Metallic Cat‘s successful stud career –– which has continued at a meteoric pace.
Teton Ridge Buys Sales Toppers
The sale-topping mares, yearling Stevies So Sweet ($725,000) and Sweet Like Stevie, a weanling who brought a top bid of $500,000, were purchased by new industry player, businessman Thomas Tull’s Teton Ridge. Last month ,Teton Ridge had bought the sales-topper at the Rocking P Ranch Production Sale when it plunked down $225,000 for Metallic Cincin, a son of Metallic Cat and out of Cinca De Maya (by Dual Rey). It also purchased filly Metallic Star Guns (Metallic Cat x Playguns Star x Playgun) for $120,000 from that sale, which was part of Western Bloodstock’s Mid-Year Cutting Horse Sale at the NCHA Summer Spectacular in Fort Worth, Texas. Earlier this year, Teton Ridge privately purchased National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Open Champion All Spice; NCHA Open Horse of the Year Twice In Santiago and NCHA Open Horse of the Year and EquiStat Elite $1 Million Sire Smooth Talkin Style. During the Mid-Year Cutting Horse Sale, Teton Ridge purchased five weanling sons of Smooth Talkin Style. Two of those colts were out of Princess Clarence (by Peptoboonsmal), and it also bought 8
Receives $50,000 Gift From the TETON RIDGE FOUNDATION
Newly formed brand’s contribution will help improve programs which support and honor the reining community, while celebrating the sport’s history. The Reining Horse Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the National Reining Horse Association, recently received a generous gift of $50,000 from the Teton Ridge Foundation. The donation will help fund programs designed to support youth leadership development, members who are enduring hardships, and both individuals and horses who have made valuable contributions to the sport of reining.
The Teton Ridge Foundation serves as the philanthropic wing of the newly created western brand, Teton Ridge. The brainchild of visionary entrepreneur Thomas Tull, Teton Ridge was formed to help preserve the values and traditions of America’s iconic western culture, by investing in western performance sports, sponsoring riders, trainers, and events, strategically breeding Quarter Horses, and focusing on longterm land conservation. Thomas Tull’s appreciation for western culture’s core values — integrity, hard work, and respect, inspired his support of the Reining Horse Foundation, an organization dedicated to hard-working individuals whose livelihoods depend on the western way of life. According to RHF President Tim Anderson, “The mission of Teton Ridge aligns with ours in many important ways. Certainly, the Reining Horse Foundation shares an interest in preserving the history of reining, which is widely recognized as one of the most exciting disciplines in all of western performance sports.” The contribution will strengthen multiple programs, including the Dale Wilkinson Memorial Crisis Fund, which provides relief to NRHA Members experiencing hardships caused by injury, illness, and even natural disaster. Additionally, Teton Ridge’s donation will support youth leadership development programs and educational scholarships for members of the National Reining Horse Youth Association. one each out of Just a Lil Freck (by Bobs Freckle); Twice As Reycy (by Dual Rey) and SS Show Biz Sandy (by Blue Bayou Boon). It also owns reining horses, including $96,709 earner Starjac Vintage and North American Reining Stakes Invitational Open Reserve Champion Winding Inferno, as well as reined cow horses.

Raise A Million Auctions Proceeds Exceed $500k Electric. Exhilarating. Exciting.
That’s a trilogy of words that could easily describe the action in the arena at the 2021 The Run For A Million presented by Teton Ridge, which wrapped up August 21 at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas. They can also illustrate the fundraising efforts between the National Reining Horse Association’s Reining Horse Foundation and TRFAM. The two entities came together to produce and host the Raise a Million Auctions to benefit the reining community. Over the course of the event, more than a half-million dollars was raised between the live and silent auctions and pledged matches from RHF donors! According to RHF Executive Director Leslie Baker, it was the largest single fundraising effort ever for the foundation. “This is probably one of the most exhilarating and sensational moments in the Reining Horse Foundation’s history, and we’ve already had some incredible ones,” she said. “It’s tremendous to be here at The Run For A Million. To have the industry step up this way is gratifying, especially as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary. It really shows that the future for the RHF is bright.”
The bidding commenced, and the cheering and encouragement of the crowd rose to a crescendo. When the bidding stalled at $110,000, Sheridan said whoever would match that price would get the same treatment. When it was all over four bidders – each pledging $110,000 – won the prize. The Live Auction, held just prior to the Million Dollar Competition Draw on Friday evening, featured five extraordinary items, ranging from a one-of-a-kind painting to incredible jewelry. The headline item, though, was an official TRFAM jacket donated by TRFAM presented by Teton Ridge and arranged by Brumley Management. Taylor Sheridan, creator of TRFAM and producer for Paramount Network’s Yellowstone, had originally assured the jacket would be signed by him and the two Yellowstone cast members at the event. Then Sheridan upped the ante, promising not only to get signatures from all the cast members but also to host the winning bidder and a guest to the set to get autographs from all the cast members in person. In addition to the meet and greet, the winners and their horses, if they chose to bring them – will be cast as extras in an episode of the hit show. The bidding commenced, and the cheering and encouragement of the crowd rose to a crescendo. When the bidding stalled at $110,000, Sheridan said whoever would match that price would get the same treatment. When it was all over four bidders – each pledging $110,000 – won the prize. 14
Taking part in the thrilling finish to the Raise A Million Live Auction are Kevin Truax, Jimmy Nichols and Nancy Wheeler Nichols, RHF Board President and high bidder Tim Anderson, Kim Niven, Janice Dickson, Mark Dickson, RHF Executive Director Leslie Baker, Taylor Sheridan, creator of The Run For A Million and producer for Paramount Network’s Yellowstone, and RHF Board member Andrea Stillo. (Photo by Kelsey Pecsek-Hruska) “Taylor Sheridan was honored in 2019 as NRHA’s Reiner of the Year, and it’s an honor well deserved, because of his generosity. We thank TRFAM, Brumley Management, and Mr. Sheridan, all big supporters we are grateful for,” noted Baker. “There was an incredible group of buyers for the live auction items. Thank you to each of them for showing their support in such a big way. Among the high bidders are Tim Anderson and Kim Niven, Mark and Janice Dickson, and Kevin Truax.” Baker also added a thank you to the donors and buyers of the other live auction items: Lot 1 – One-of-a-kind show headstall created and donated by Bob’s Custom Saddles, an NRHA Corporate Partner. Purchased by Elementa, Lot 2 – Texas Rangers Tickets donated by Debbie Conway/Vaquero Midstream. Purchased by Pete Fulgham, 03 Animal Health LLC., Lot 3 – Sleipner Trust Harmony Bracelet created and donated by MS Diamonds TX, an NRHA corporate partner, Lot 4 – Remember Me original acrylic painting created and donated by MJ’s Equine Art Studios (Maggie Leverett). Purchased by Allison Thorson/ThorSport Inc. and Elementa. The Silent Auction ran through Saturday afternoon and garnered an additional $24,495. Two items tied as the high selling lots in the Silent Auction at $2,000 each: a 2022 breeding to Spooks Gotta Spark donated by Kevin Truax and purchased by Ricardo and Kim Rivero, and an eye-catching show headstall made by Travis Stillson, donated by George & Chloe Lawrence and purchased by Laura Honstetter. According to Baker, the generosity surrounding the Raise a Million Auctions began well before anyone connected to the event set foot in Las Vegas. When word of the auctions got out, donors pledging to match money raised began to stack up. “We had an incredible group of 15 donors pledge to match the first $19,500 the auction raised, ensuring it would be successful from the start,” she said. Donors contributing to the match include: $2,500 - Tim Anderson

Zane Davis and Rubys Radar Zer
A chance to be the first champion of The Run For A Million Fence Work Challenge, presented by Teton Ridge, brought some of the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s best bridle horses to make a run in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 20 with the top Open NRCHA earning riders in the saddle. When the last cow was circled, Zane Davis and Rubys Radar (One Time Pepto x Ruby Bagonia x Peppy San Badger) topped the 15-horse field to earn $60,000 and the title. The second The Run For A Million event held August 18 through 20 at the South Point Hotel and Casino once again brought out sold-out crowds to the Arena and Equestrian Center for the Fence Work Challenge on Friday and the Run For A Million on Saturday night. Open riders were invited to the first Fence Work Challenge based on their sum of three-year NRCHA earnings. Riders had the opportunity to compete on any bridle horse they selected. Aboard “Radar,” owned by Billie Filippini’s C Ranches Inc of Battle Mountain, Nevada, Davis received plusses from the judges on crisp reining maneuvers to score a 224.5 before the pair made the high-scoring cow horse run of the event with a massive 229. “When Taylor Sheridan included reined cow horse in The Run For A Million we were thrilled for the opportunity to share the spotlight at this groundbreaking event,” said Anna Morrison, NRCHA executive director. “Our riders and horses did their part to share the thrill of our sport with the audience. They gave it their all in the arena, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. I think it’s fair to say there are more than a few new cow horse fans today!” Davis, from Blackfoot, Idaho, is an NRCHA Million Dollar Rider and past NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity® Champion. The NRCHA reining pattern 4 is one Davis approaches with determination, and that paid off. “This pattern is a very difficult pattern,” said Davis. “You come in run and spin, and do hard fast running first, then you have to lope off in a small, slow circle and then change to a small, slow circle after running a large fast one. I am familiar with this pattern [because] it is the first pattern I’ve ever run and I destroyed 20
it. When they said we were going to run it, I knew I needed to practice every little element of it. He and I practiced bits and pieces of it every day for a month.” As draw seven, Davis watched what he deemed as “slower cattle” work, and knew his needed to be fast with an aggressive work to mark high on the cards of NRCHA judges Todd Crawford, Russell Dilday, Wade Reaney, Brady Weaver and Cayley Wilson. The event utilized the NRCHA’s five judge system, where the high and low scores are removed so the middle three count toward the score. “The left turn [first] for him is a better turn. I’d watched some others go with pretty slow cows. It turned out that red cow,

Rubys Radar, owned by C Ranches INC, compete at The Run For A Million.
Photo by Cam Essick by its first move, I thought we had more cow than some others I had seen. I knew this horse could handle about any cow so I was excited,” Davis said. “I grew up in rodeo so I am used to the crowd, and I am always concerned with how my horse handles the crowd. This horse, I think he performs better when the crowd is screaming. Though, I am glad I wasn’t first—there was intensity in the air!” When Erin Taormino and Im So Stunning, the final draw of the night, wrapped up, the crowd rewarded the entire event with raucous cheers. The reined cow horse Fence Work Challenge made a positive and lasting impression on attendees and those watching through the livestream and pay-per-view options. The Fence Work Challenge paid 12 holes, and Reserve Champion Sarah Dawson rode Travelin Miss Jonez (Travelin Jonez x Playin With Rubies x Lectric Playboy) to a 223.5 in the rein work and a 226.5 in the cow work for a composite 450, earning $22,500. With a composite 446, CSR Lay Down Sally (Dual Spark x Look At Her Glo x CD O Cody), owned by Meredith Graber, and

Chris Dawson tied for third with Clayton Edsall and Metallic Train (Metallic Cat x Sparking Train x Shining Spark), owned by Beverly Servi. Both earned $16,500. Rounding out the top five was Corey Cushing aboard TheCrowdLovesMe (Smart Chic Olena x Shine Smartly x Shining Spark), owned by Lindsay Wadhams, marking a 441 to earn $12,000. Davis said it is a game changer for the sport to be included in the event, a sentiment echoed by others involved in the Fence Work Challenge. “For us, it was super exciting to be a part of it because it introduces our sport to a whole new audience that we don’t get to be in front of,” said Sarah Dawson. “The cow horse has a ton to offer as far as entertainment value and getting it out there, it was fun to take part. Everybody brought their best horse, so from a spectator aspect, you saw the best of the best. It was another venue for us to showcase these bridle horses that are, in my opinion, still underappreciated but most loved by the crowds.” As a Category 2 sanctioned NRCHA event the money earned will count toward rider and horse lifetime earnings. The event was sanctioned in late July when the rein work was added to the Fence Work Challenge. The change in format affected Davis, who had originally planned to bring NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion
Reymanator (Dual Rey x Savannah Hickory x Docs Hickory) back to the show pen to compete. With the inclusion of reining, he had to make a horse change to Radar, which worked out in his favor. “It was a rush job on him because he’d been at the breeding farm, out of shape and really fat a month ago,” explained Davis. “We had about a month [to get him in shape] and he just got in what looked like show shape five days ago. He was performing well and he’s a happy show horse. He performed well tonight.” The top bridle horses in NRCHA competition always draw a crowd whether competing at an NRCHA premier event’s Open Bridle class or at the annual World’s Greatest Horseman event. That draw helped The Run For A Million producer Taylor Sheridan decided to add the Fence Work Challenge. PBR RidePass Now Free on Pluto TV PBR Fans,
A message from PBR Commissioner Sean Gleason
As you know, RidePass has now become a free service, moving to the Pluto TV platform. I want to explain the reasons for the switch and clear up some misinformation.
First, you must understand that RidePass as a subscription service was unsustainable. Tens of thousands of you supported RidePass, but we needed hundreds of thousands of subscribers to cover the costs of providing the service. This reality was a change in the digital media landscape rather than an indictment of RidePass. When we launched the service, the world was moving toward stand-alone subscription services like RidePass. That changed over the last three years, and you, the consumer, reset the expectations that services like RidePass should be free and aggregated with other content. We faced a difficult challenge: shut down RidePass altogether or find a new home for it. Thank goodness for Pluto TV and their belief in PBR and all things western sports. We were able to migrate RidePass to a free platform and expand the scope exponentially to deliver more content than has ever been available to our fans and western sports consumers. We found a home for RidePass that provided a solid future, aligned with very complicated media rights issues, and would best benefit our fans. Since launching PBR RidePass on Pluto TV, one inaccuracy being floated on social media suggests that PBR has taken away access to live coverage of PBR’s Unleash The Beast events. That is categorically untrue. Every Unleash The Beast performance has been broadcast live or on short delay on CBS or CBS Sports Network, starting with the PBR Last Cowboy Standing event from Cheyenne, WY. Further, every Unleash The Beast Series round will continue to be broadcast live or on short delay on CBS or CBS Sports Network through Ft. Worth at the end of August. We also see complaints from some in the U.S. regarding access to CBS Sports Network. CBS Sports Network is available to more than 100 million households in the U.S. Roughly 60 million households already have CBS Sports Network in their home today. We don’t decide what local cable providers offer to their customers, neither does CBS Sports Network. We ask that you direct your comments to your local cable provider since PBR has no input into their channel packaging decisions. Other options are to get CBS Sports Network through services like satellite TV providers, Hulu, FuboTV, or YouTube TV. There are widely available alternatives to your traditional cable provider for as low as $65/mo that offer hundreds of channels including CBS Sports Network. Moving forward, all rounds of the PBR Unleash The Beast series that are not scheduled to be broadcast on CBS or CBS Sports 24
Network will now be broadcast LIVE on PBR RidePass on Pluto TV with the same worldclass production of our televised events. This solution should satisfy U.S. fans who have been demanding coverage of all rounds from every PBR Unleash The Beast event. Between CBS, CBS Sports Network, and RidePass on Pluto TV, every single ride from every PBR Unleash The Beast event is available to every domestic fan on a live or short delay basis. Not to mention we have made available hundreds of hours of additional live coverage from the Velocity Tour, rodeos, and other western sports events. And if you haven’t checked out RidePass on Pluto TV, we are also broadcasting hundreds of hours of archival footage that no one has seen for as many as 28 years. It’s a fantastic channel for any fan of PBR and western sports. I have heard from some that they appreciated the video-ondemand access to past events that we offered via RidePass. First, the new PBR RidePass on PlutoTV is airing the prior week’s broadcasts multiple times throughout each week in different dayparts to ensure fans have access to PBR content on a timely basis. Additionally, video-on-demand is a feature available on Pluto TV and the content is beginning to populate. Simply go to Pluto TV, click On Demand and search for PBR RidePass. You will find dozens of programs currently available, with more being added every day. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement these positive changes and manage the logistic and technical challenges. We are working on solutions for our international fans as well. As a general rule, Pluto TV has only had rights to the U.S. territory for most of the channels it offers. We are confident we will have positive news to announce in the coming months about international access to PBR RidePass on Pluto TV – another first driven by PBR’s desire to serve all fans. Fans outside the U.S. should also let your local broadcasters know you want access to PBR content. The best solution would be for one of your domestic networks to broadcast PBR live or make it available digitally. We keep pushing for that opportunity but some local broadcasters suggest there is no demand for PBR content in your country. We know differently, so please make your voices heard with them! PBR coverage has never been more timely, more comprehensive, and easier to access. Your local cable provider may require you to upgrade your cable package for access to CBS Sports Network; that is outside our control and also not the case for most PBR fans. Every other major sports property offers limited free content to its fans and charges $300 to $500 a year if you want access to all coverage and/or VOD options. PBR continues to prioritize our fans and we are working diligently to make it available to you at no cost from the PBR. continued on page 26

PBR family mourns
Amadeu Campos Silva
By: Sean Gleaso - Courtesy PBR
Earlier today, young Brazilian bull rider Amadeu Campos Silva was involved in a terrible wreck at the Velocity Tour event in Fresno. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, Calif., where he passed away. Our heart breaks for Amadeu’s family and friends.
At 22, he was a bull rider with a lot of promise, coming to the U.S. after competing in PBR Brazil in 2017 and 2018 to pursue his dream of a World Championship. In 2019, he was runner up at the Brazilian Finals and that year, made his U.S. debut on the Velocity Tour in Edinburg, Texas; 11 months later he made it to the premier series in Manchester, N.H. At the end of the 2020 season, one of Amadeu’s life dreams was accomplished: he rode in the PBR World Finals. This season, on the Velocity Tour, he was again angling to rise to the elite level. Amadeu was a rising star in our sport; a cowboy with so much potential on and off the dirt. The entire PBR and western sports family extend our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences to Amadeu’s family and friends. Please say a prayer tonight for them, and may Amadeu’s soul eternally rest in peace.

ViacomCBS takes Taylor Sherida
New York, NY, August 19, 2021 – MTV Entertainment Studios today announced Paramount Network’s #1 hit series, Yellowstone, is set to return Sunday, November 7th. In addition, Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, announced the service’s upcoming Taylor Sheridan series, Mayor of Kingstown and 1883 – the Yellowstone origin story – will premiere on Sunday, Nov. 14th, and Sunday, Dec. 19th, respectively.
The new season of Yellowstone serves as a launch pad for the new series Mayor of Kingstown and 1883. Paramount Network will air a special simulcast event for both Mayor of Kingstown and 1883 following Yellowstone to promote the new series. “Our strategy is to make Yellowstone, the massive # 1 hit with more than 10 million fans, into a global hit franchise under the incredible creative vision of Taylor Sheridan’s world building storytelling,” said Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, MTV Entertainment. “These new series will debut on Paramount+ and have
Chris McCarthy special premiere day sneak episodes behind Yellowstone introducing this huge audience

to these new stories, allowing us to leverage our linear platforms to fuel the growth of Paramount+ which will stream each series exclusively after episode two.”
Keith Cox According to the Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy and his top scripted lieutenant, Keith Cox, sources say, will also continue to oversee all of Taylor Sheridan’s originals for the company. Cox and former Spike TV/Paramount Network president Kevin Kay were central in recruiting the Yellowstone creator to ViacomCBS. Sheridan recently renewed his overall deal with ViacomCBS and has multiple series in the works, including a Yellowstone prequel and Jeremy Renner drama, both for Paramount+. McCarthy has been a rising star at ViacomCBS since he first joined the company in 2004. After overseeing VH1’s ratings turnaround, he has continued to add oversight of multiple networks since and also launched in-house studios to focus on mining IP at MTV and Comedy Central. To that end, McCarthy has revived Beavis and Butt-Head, Daria (with a spinoff, Jodie) and Ren and Stimpy while cutting legacy programming like Tosh.0 and originals The Other Two and South Side. The two scripted originals moved to HBO Max as Comedy Central, the studio
on both shows, will continue to monetize them. “Mayor of Kingstown and 1883 are perfect examples of the types of prestige dramas we are focused on bringing to Paramount+,” said Tanya Giles, Chief Programming Officer, ViacomCBS Streaming. “Taylor Sheridan is an exceptional talent and we are thrilled to be expanding his portfolio of series within the ViacomCBS family. With the special simulcast event of both series on Paramount Network, we will be further tapping into the scale and reach of ViacomCBS to bring audiences to Paramount+.” “We are thrilled to present these shows as part of this newly established Taylor Sheri-
David Glasser dan universe that has grown and expanded beyond our greatest expectations,” said David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios. “Taylor has proven time and time again his powerful ability to tell riveting stories that are rich with passion, drama and adventure and entertain audiences everywhere. Additionally, the fall is an incredible landscape for television, bringing in the strongest viewer availability. ViacomCBS has remained a phenomenal partner to us over the years and this showcases the network’s confidence in all of our shows.”
SEPTEMBER 2021
As part of Sheridan’s deal with MTV Entertainment and ViacomCBS, Mayor of Kingstown and 1883 are just the first from his exclusive multi-year contract, which includes scripted aseries for streaming and linear distribution. 101 Studios serves as a production partner on all series.
Leveraging their content, steaming video on demand allows television networks to expand on a global scale. In that pursuit they need new high-quality original content to supplement the library of old shows, movies, and sports. Viacom/CBS the parent company of the Paramount Network and Paramont + their streaming on demand brand have chosen Taylor Sheridan to be a cornerstone in their effort. It is a daunting task, and huge responsibility to execute Sheridan’s plan for production and he has his team of writers from Yellowstone and 101 Studios to help carry the load. Sheridan also enlisted Yellowstone‘s production design trio — production designer Cary White, set decorator Carly Curry and art director Yvonne Boudreau — who recently drew that drama’s first Emmy nominations. ViacomCBS has the largest share of the U.S. television audience and controls one of the industry’s most extensive libraries of TV and film titles. Their stable includes CBS, Showtime Networks, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET. Paramount+, Pluto TV, and others. Paramount + launched in March 2021, as a replacement for CBS All Access that already had an estimated 30 million subscribers, with 19.2 million domestically, as of Feb 24, 2021. Paramount Network
an Shows to Worldwide Audience has a reach of nearly 90 million households domestically. The goal moving forward is to debut 36 original series this year and build the Paramount Plus library into 2,500 movies and 30,000 episodes. The service already features live news and sports from brands like; MTV, Comedy Central, CBS, Nickelodeon, and BET. The new original series at Paramount include besides Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoffs, like the prequel Y: 1883, and 6666, a revival of Frasier, Nickelodeon’s Rugrats and more.
Paramount Plus streaming service has two tiers of pricing. The premium offer is $10 a month or $100 annually to stream ad-free, or $5 a month or $50 annually with advertising. The premium offer includes live, local CBS network. However, some programing from the CBS’ network is made available to the $5-tier subscribers. Paramount Plus is building a world-wide subscriber base having recently launched in Latin America, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. In 2022 the streaming video on demand service will become part of SkyShowtime and will roll out in 20 European territories reaching 90 million homes. It will be available in Albania, Andorra, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czecch Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. In Latin American the service is already in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Expanding Paramount Plus’s global reach into Australia and Europe is a primary goal
dios. All MGM’s new movies are distributed on Paramount+ after their theatrical releases. The new, original shows and movies Paramount+ is releasing includes three by Taylor Sheridan including:

ca is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing. The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor
to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made. In June Viacom CBS reported
that their combined streaming services including Paramount Plus, and the popular Pluto, had reached 42 million subscribers worldwide, and it was hoping to reach 65 to 75 million global subscribers streaming by 2024. Solid growth is driving advertising revenue nearly doubling 2020 levels toward $2 billion a year. Plus, subscriber income jumped a reported 82%. It's been reported that the budget for 1883 is higher than Yellowstone. Parmount+ intends to double their investment in streaming content this year.

She lost her legs in a terror attack Now, she’s competing in the Paralympics
Beatrice de Lavalette was 17 years old when she was at Brussels’ Zaventem Airport, heading back to the U.S. for spring break. The next thing she remembers is darkness, and the feeling of being lifted off the ground.By chance De Lavalette had been standing next to a suicide bomber and was one of the 300 people who were left injured after Zaventem Airport was struck by twin blasts on March 22, 2016 — an attack where 32 people were killed and which ISIS would later claim responsibility for.”I was just on my phone talking to my brother and listening to music, really not paying attention to what was going on around me […] I think the next thing I see is that everything’s going really dark,” de Lavalette said.”It was right after I came to from being knocked out from the initial impact of the bomb, I remember looking around and knowing exactly what had just happened and I remember thinking, ‘I cannot believe this just happened,'” she adds. She also remembers “a lot of chaos, a lot of smoke and fire and darkness.””I could start hearing other people screaming for help […] I remember thinking that I should probably be doing the same thing,” she says. Eventually, de Lavalette caught the eye of one of the first responders, who immediately sprayed her with a fire extinguisher in order to douse the flames that had enveloped her body. She was left with life-changing injuries including secondto third-degree burns, a spinal cord injury and the loss of her lower legs — both of which were amputated. Six years on from that horrific day, the 22-year-old dressage rider is looking forward to brighter horizons and representing Team USA at her first Paralympic Games in Tokyo. No end in sight. About a month after coming out of a coma, de Lavalette says she cried every day. She wondered what life held in store for her.”Thank God I had my family there to support me,” de Lavalette recalls. “Just knowing that my life wasn’t over and that I was going to be able to continue living my life in a positive way helped me a lot when I was in the hospital.” It was a few months later when the American ambassador to Belgium came to visit her in hospital, and they began talking about the Rio 2016 Olympics.”We were just talking and joking around. And she mentioned that the Olympics were going on in Rio at that point and how cool it would be for me to be in Tokyo for the next one,” she says. “But I didn’t really think too much into it.” Until that point, de Lavalette had no intention of becoming a para-athlete — let alone competing at a Paralympic Games — but she did want to resume her passion of horse riding.” I wanted to get back to my regular life, and for me, regular life was riding every day, so not being able to do that was really hard.”The road to recoveryDe Lavalette spent months learning how to ride again, which was “really uncomfortable.””I had no muscle, I was just skin and bones, so being back on the saddle with no sense of balance was really uncomfortable. But with time, I was able to build up the muscle and work on my balance, and it got easier with time,” she says.” My body was so different than prior to the accident. So for me, it 52
was just readjusting what I had learned my whole life,” de Lavalette adds.Riders often use their legs to guide their horse, shifting their weight to change the movement of their mount, but de Lavalette uses a whip to guide her horse, touching it from side to side to tell it where to go.’I am very appreciative’. From riding in the south of France as a youngster to returning to the saddle with her horse Delegada X — who she affectionately calls DeeDee — de Lavalette says her connection with horses has always proved stronger than the obstacles she’s faced on her path to her first Games. When de Lavalette was recovering from the 2016 accident, her mother found a way to bring DeeDee to the hospital parking lot, where she was reunited with her beloved companion.”That moment made me decide that I wasn’t going to give up on life,” she told daytime talk show “The Doctors.” ”The basis of how I work with my horses is trust,” de Lavalette tells CNN.”It’s the feeling, the connection that you have with the horse, just that bond that you create over the […] course of the training, I think, for me is probably my favorite,” she adds.De Lavalette went back to school in September 2016 and finished her first paraequestrian show in April 2017. She made her first appearance for the U.S. Para Dressage Team in January 2020 — where she contributed to the team competition victory.Recently, she’s been getting used to training with her new horse, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood named Clarc, who de Lavalette says is “awesome.””I’ve had for nine months,” she adds. “He’s such a great horse. He is in some sense very supportive. He’s a hard worker. He likes what he does and he doesn’t toss me off so I am very appreciative of that.”‘It was really surreal’ In July, de Lavalette shared the news that she had been picked to represent Team USA at the Paralympic Games.”It was really surreal,” she says, “I kind of knew it was going to happen just because I had worked so hard, and I had done the results that I needed to make the team. But hearing it and making it official was really an incredible moment.”Of course, de Lavalette’s achievement is the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice, but she says the dream of making a Paralympic podium is what has kept her going.” It’ll probably make me cry, but it’s going to mean everything. It’s just such a special moment just to be able to represent the country and then do well enough to make the podium. It’s going to be incredible,” de Lavalette says.”It’s going to be very happy tears.”De Lavalette admits that she wouldn’t have been able to get through the past several years without the support of her friends and family.” They have been there since day one and have never stopped supporting me, and I know that if I’m having a bad day, I can always call my parents or call my friends and they’ll always help me get back to being my regular happy self.””I was born into a family where everybody rode, so for me to continue the legacy was kind continued on page 66

PBR World Finals
BY: KACIE ALBERT
moves to Fort Worth in 2022
FORT WORTH, Texas – PBR (Professional Bull Riders) today announced that bull riding’s most prestigious event, the PBR World Finals, will move to Fort Worth, Texas, and Dickies Arena starting in 2022 as part of a comprehensive schedule restructure for its premier series. The new PBR Unleash The Beast regular season will span from January-May, culminating with a seven-day championship festival, spanning two weekends of bull riding and fan activities, in Fort Worth.
The changes will go into effect immediately after the 2021 PBR World Finals which will conclude the current season in Las Vegas, Nevada, at T-Mobile Arena Nov. 3-7. “We were excited to host the 2020 PBR World Finals in Texas, and we are proud to now welcome the most intense bull riding competition with the most engaged fans back to the Lone Star State in the 2022 season," said Governor Greg Abbott. "Fort Worth is the Modern West, and there is no better place for the PBR World Finals to call their new long-term home. I congratulate the PBR, the City of Fort Worth, and Mayor Mattie Parker on this world champion partnership that will showcase Texas as the premier sportsentertainment destination, spur continuing tourism and travel, and bring new jobs to Fort Worth and beyond." "This has been an incredible team effort with PBR, Governor Abbott, our Fort Worth Sports Commission and so many others,” Mayor Mattie Parker said. “Fort Worth is the gold standard for public-private partnerships and we are marshaling all our resources to roll out the red carpet for the PBR World Finals." “This is a historic win for Fort Worth. Powered by Dickies Arena and a community committed to hospitality, we are excited to announce this latest, significant sports event for our city. Welcoming the PBR World Finals beginning in 2022 shows how Fort Worth is attracting the most exciting and important events in professional sports,” said Jason Sands, director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission, a division of Visit Fort Worth. This year the Sports Commission welcomed more than 40 events worth more than $100 million in economic impact. “These landmark changes give the PBR season greater continuity and allow the league to hold our crown jewel, the World Finals, in the heart of cowboy country surrounded by exciting fan entertainment activities,” said Sean Gleason, PBR CEO and Commissioner. “PBR World Finals will now have a two-week presence throughout Fort Worth, making the Metroplex the mustvisit, sports-entertainment destination, every May. We are ecstatic to work with our incredible partners in Fort Worth, as we usher in a new era adding to the rich history of our World Finals and continue to bring new programming to Fort Worth. We look forward to the many opportunities to grow the PBR World Finals and sport as a whole here in Texas.” The schedule changes follow PBR’s announcement in June of a landmark joint venture with Stockyards Heritage Development Co. and ASM Global to bring dozens of annual new western sports, music and entertainment events to Cowtown Coliseum and the historic Stockyards District. 62
The inaugural PBR World Finals in Fort Worth will be held from May 13-22, 2022 at Dickies Arena, headlining an action-packed two weeks of activities across Fort Worth. Harkening back to a past format of the World Finals, reminiscent of when the year-end event was split between Mandalay Bay and Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the first three rounds of the 2022 PBR World Finals will be held May 13-15, with the final five rounds held from May 19-22. “Dickies Arena is proud to welcome the World Finals to Texas and celebrate 30 years of PBR in our new state-of-the-art facility. We are excited to host PBR in another national capacity and look forward to showcasing the city of Fort Worth to PBR fans from across North America,” said Matt Homan, president and general manager of Dickies Arena. In addition to Dickies Arena, the league will also bring World Finals-related events and programming to Cowtown Coliseum, Fort Worth Convention Center and the Will Rogers Complex in Fort Worth, and the flagship PBR Bar at Texas Live!, boasting a 7,000 square-foot balcony overlooking Arlington Backyard, one of the region’s top concert venues, in nearby Arlington. PBR has held its annual championship in Las Vegas since the sport was founded, with the exception of 2020 when the World Finals were held in Arlington, Texas due to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The PBR will continue to visit Las Vegas with significant, to be announced events. “We would like to thank the City of Las Vegas for being such an incredible host to the PBR World Finals for nearly three decades,” said Gleason. “While we are excited about the move to Texas, Las Vegas will continue to hold marquee PBR events, which will be announced in the coming months.” The 2022 PBR season will now span January-May, with subsequent seasons starting in 2023 lasting from November-May. The 2022 campaign will include a minimum of 20 elite Unleash The Beast events, stopping in stalwart venues in cities such as Madison Square Garden in New York City, STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City and MetraPark in Billings, Montana. Ticketing information for the 2022 PBR World Finals in Fort Worth and regular season Unleash The Beast events, in addition to a complete season schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks. PBR will hold events in the months following the 2022 PBR World Finals in May until the next Unleash The Beast regular season begins in January 2023. The league will provide updates on those plans in the near future. Tickets are still available for the 2021 PBR World Finals. Marking the year-end event’s final time in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena, tickets for the five-day event range in price from $27 to $351. Fans can purchase tickets at the T-Mobile Arena Box Office, pbr.com, at AXS.com, or by phone through the PBR Customer Service Department at 800-732-1727.

A 20-year-old Belgian horse who held the Guinness World Record for world’s tallest horse in 2010 has died. Big Jake was a beloved horse who lived on Smokey Hollow Farm in Poynette, Wisconsin. He was 20 hands (6 feet 8 inches) and 2.75 inches tall from hoof to the top of his withers. Jerry Gilbert, owner of the farm, called the horse a “superstar” and said, “He was truly a magnificent animal. He was extremely

His size and friendly demeanor attracted a crowd everywhere he went. He was the definition of gentle giant and met countless fans at local fairs. In his younger years he competed in draft horse competitions, but spent the last
few years enjoying retirement on green pastures. The farm posted the sad news of his passing on Facebook. “It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of Big Jake. DERRICK BEGAY, CORY PETSKA LOCK UP HEBER CITY WIN
If there is such a thing as a secret to rodeoing, team ropers Derrick Begay and Cory Petska have surely found it. The Arizona cowboys have 23 trips to the National Finals Rodeo between them and despite having no plans to rodeo full time this year, both are now in contention for another trip to the Finals in 2021. It began when Begay earned a big payday at RFD-TV’s The American in March roping with Matt Sherwood, setting him up for a chance at a ninth NFR. Meanwhile, Petska decided to take a month of the summer to hit some rodeos and ring up his old partner. After winning Reno and Prescott right off the bat, their latest conquest came at the Mountain Valley Stampede in Heber City, Utah, yet another stop on the ProRodeo Tour. Roping on Saturday night, Aug. 7, Begay and Petska stopped the clock in 4.5 seconds to bank $3,706 each.
“The steer we had was a little stronger. Derrick reached a long way for him. It was kind of wild but it worked,” Petska, 41, laughed. “It was much needed,” said Begay, 38. “We started out really good, but then all of a sudden it went the other way.” Begay was referring to a cold spell for the last couple of weeks. “That’s rodeoing,” he said. “But this win came at a good time.” The team joined forces in late June and in just six weeks, 70
cold spell notwithstanding, they’ve earned nearly $40,000 each. Begay came into the week ranked sixth in the PRCA | RAM World Standings for headers while Petska was 13th for heelers. “In the beginning, no,” Begay said of setting out to try for the Finals. “But after winning $10,000 at The American, it was sure in the back of my mind. I was wanting to go but didn’t have a partner. “Then Cory called.” Petska had been focusing on other business ventures, including 2,000-plus head of cattle he runs with his wife, Sherry Cervi, in Wisconsin. Those cows will need attention by September, giving Petska just a few more weeks of rodeoing to solidify his position in the standings. “ We’re going through Caldwell,” Petska said. He and Begay were pulling an all-nighter back to Castle Rock, Colo., and Loveland, Colo., immediately following the Heber City win. “Then we’re going to Wisconsin. I’ll come back for Ellensburg but that will be about it.” This isn’t the first time that Begay and Petska have pulled off a summer miracle – their last trip to the NFR in 2018 came on the heels of a huge winning streak from the Fourth of July on, and history appears to be repeating itself. “Honestly, Derrick and I have such good chemistry,” Petska said. “There is no end goal so there’s no pressure. I just wanted to go to Reno and through Cheyenne. “We’re just having fun, and it’s easier to win that way.” Begay laughed at Petska’s assessment. “I’m still trying to figure it out,” he said of the secret to their team’s magic. “I think it’s just being comfortable with each other.” “Cory’s a businessman now, and he’s got stuff to do at home but it’s hard to set a timeframe with rodeo, it’s so unpredictable,” Begay said. “But wherever he’s going, I’m going.”

(Aug. 10, 2021) – Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association® (PRCA) Board of Directors accepted the resignation of PRCA Chief Executive Officer George Taylor on Tuesday, Aug. 10, effective immediately. “We want to thank George for his time as the CEO,” said Jacobs Crawley, PRCA Chairman of the Board. “The PRCA Board is extremely proud of the many contributions that George has made to the organization over the last threeplus years.” Taylor led the PRCA through the challenges presented by COVID-19, overseeing the shift of the Wrangler National Finals
Rodeo® (NFR) to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, in December 2020 and to include a full payout of $10 million. Taylor brought some of the world’s biggest rodeos, such as RodeoHouston and the Calgary Stampede, back under the PRCA umbrella. He also orchestrated the television partnership with The Cowboy Channel, bringing rodeo coverage to broadcast television and live streaming in an unprecedented manner. Taylor also led the establishment and growth of Jr. Rodeo, incorporating some of the nation’s biggest youthoriented rodeo associations. Tom Glause, the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Rodeo Administration, will serve as interim CEO, the Board announced. said Cooper, 30. "They also put some more stitches in my hand. I'm not sure how long I will be out. It is going to be a weekby-week situation. I'm trying to figure out when I will come back.
Tuf Cooper has surgery on his hand
Four-time PRCA World Champion Tuf Cooper is out of action after suffering an injury to his left hand in Logan, Utah, Aug. 14. Cooper, who won tie-down roping world championships in 2011-12 and 2014 and the all-around world title in 2017, had surgery Aug. 19 in Colorado Springs, Colo., to repair his left hand. Cooper got a coil in his left hand getting off his horse at the Cache County Fair and Rodeo. It locked down on all four of his fingers and fractured his left index finger and broke off the finger-nail. "They put a screw down on the tip of my finger to connect the bone to make sure it stays connected," 72

Stetson Wright takes home three titles in Caldwell, Idaho
Stetson Wright showed why he's one of the top cowboys in the world this past weekend at the Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo. Wright put up the top bull riding score of the week (Aug.16-22). The reigning world champion had a 92-point ride on Powder River Rodeo's Top Shelf to win the rodeo. "He was just a great bull that played to the left, right into my hand really, I couldn't have asked for anything better that night in Caldwell (Idaho)," said Wright, 22.

There was more where that came from for the Milford, Utah, native. He also took home the bareback riding title and allaround cowboy honors. "This whole summer has been really good for me, and it seems like it just keeps getting better and better," Wright said."I think these wins definitely give me a nice little boost, but I try not to think about it. I just keep trying to ride and do my job. It's worked out pretty good for me so far this season." Wright's success last week came with a hefty payday. In three rodeos he earned $22,453, with $14,438 of that coming from his outing in Caldwell. The money won in bareback pushed him into the No.1 spot in the latest PRCA | RAM World Standings, now $1,473 ahead of his brother Ryder Wright. "He (Ryder) isn't sweating me, I can tell you that for sure," Wright said. "There's still a lot of work left to be done. I'm not satisfied with where I'm at right now, I want to keep getting better. I mean it's been one of the best years I've ever had, if not the best, but I still have that motivation that I can be even better." With five weeks left to go in the regular season, Wright is closing in on the PRCA record for the most money earned in the all-around standings before the NFR. That record is held by ProRodeo legend Trevor Brazile who earned $282,242 before the NFR in 2015. Wright is $29,763 away from breaking Brazile's record. The regular season ends Sept. 30. 1
“Dr Katz spent over a half hour on the phone with me. When is the last time anyone has heard of a doctor doing that. He is one cool dude.” - Steve N. “My wife, Debbie and I, work with Dr Steven Katz. He is the most compassionate and caring doctor I have ever had the privilege of working with. When I first called the practice to speak with someone about medical issues with our family, Dr Katz spent over a half hour on the phone with me. When is the last time anyone has heard of a doctor doing that. He is one cool dude. The entire staff and doctors at NPG are a cut above any other physicians I have come across. We really appreciate the quality of care they all provide.” - Steve N.

“Considering seeing a Naturopathy Dr? I wasn't sure what to expect either. From the staff to the Doctors, my experience over the last 5 years has been nothing but exceptional. I have foot drop and HAD chronic backpain. I no longer medicate with drugs thanks to this practice of fine individuals. I am able to hike miles and miles and enjoy intense Mountain biking. Thank you, Dr. Steven Katz.” - Scott S.
“I had an extended recovery period after an emergency surgery and I was unable to ride. In April 2019 I went on a trail ride with my family and strained my hip flexor. In search of options, I started physical therapy which only brought limited relief. In Feb. I started prolotherapy and spinal manipulation with Dr. Cronin, and now am pain free and am back to riding! My husband has just started prolotherapy and chiropractic adjustments and is quite pleased after just one treatment! Our daughter is also receiving spinal manipulation from Dr. Cronin. We are so appreciative of what Dr. Cronin brings for health and pain relief as an alternative to traditional medical treatments!” Thank you, Melinda Carter

Like most steer wrestlers, Joe Bell Sr. doesn't see a reason to stop bulldogging. Unlike most steer wrestlers, at the age of 66, Bell is still going strong wrestling steers. While plenty of bulldoggers slow down and stop well before they cross the half-century mark, Bell keeps chugging along, even winning a rodeo this summer. He's not sure how long he'll continue to do it, but he's enjoying it while it lasts. "I've looked at other hobbies and I can't find anything I really want to do that makes me happy besides being out here rodeoing," Bell said. "I wish I could give you a real good answer as to why I'm still doing it, but I'm about half nuts, I guess."

Last year, Hughes partnered with an upstart online ownership group called Myracehorse.com, which offered anyone who paid $206 a microshare ownership interest in Authentic. Over 5,300 people bought in. "By people buying a small interest, it would attach them to the game," Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella told the AP. "He thought that would make some devoted fans, not just casual." Wearing Hughes' purpleand-orange colors, Authentic went on to win the BC Classic, and Hughes attended at Keeneland to accept the trophy in a crowded winner's circle. The colt also won the Eclipse Award as Horse of the Year. "He's really going to be missed because he made such an impact on the industry," Baffert said. "He wanted to rejuvenate the sport."

South Dakota, and acquired by Bill and Debbie Myers in 1989. "We all here at the Myers Ranch have been dreading this day. The “Old Guy” was laid to rest. His body was tired and he couldn’t fight Old Father Time any longer. Our hearts are broken and words cannot describe how we feel. For 34 years, Frenchmans Guy was a part of our family and blessed our lives. He made it possible for our Family to do what we love and are passionate about.

We can truly say that one Horse built our program. He enabled us to go places we never knew possible, to meet people who became our friends and to make memories we will never forget - all because of that one horse. Those of you who have been part of this journey, you know how special he was to all of us. Our hope is that when you read this and think of that one horse - he brings you a smile and a happy memory. Thank You God For This Blessing Thank You Frenchmans Guy The Myers Family"
The Myers family, who base their Myers Performance Horses in Saint Onge, South Dakota, guided the stallion’s entire legendary career. “Guy” lost his right eye in a farm accident early in his life, but it did not hamper his career, which began with success at barrel futurities and derbies and the PRCA and amateur rodeo circuits.

The Bureau of Land Management announced additional steps it will take to secure the health and safety of adopted wild horses and burros through the Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Incentive Program.

THE BLM ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL PROTECTIVE STEPS FOR WILD HORSE AND BURRO ADOPTIONS “We are committed to the health and safety of adopted wild horses and burros,” said BLM Deputy Director for Programs Nada Wolff Culver. “While the vast majority of adopters already adhere to our requirements to provide a good and caring home, the BLM is
now taking additional steps to secure the health and safety of adopted animals. We will begin to make additional compliance visits post-adoption, bring more scrutiny to potential adopters, and increase warnings to sale barns about the risks of illegally selling wild horses and burros, among other steps.” Before adopting a wild horse or burro, an individual must certify, under penalty of prosecution, that the individual will not knowingly sell or transfer the animal for slaughter or for processing into commercial products. To ensure adopted animals go to good homes, the BLM limits adopters to assuming title to a maximum of four animals within a 12-month period and prohibits the transfer of title for at least 12 months from the adoption date. Furthermore, the BLM conducts compliance inspections on animals while in private care prior to title transfer. The BLM plans to take the following actions to provide further oversight and protection of adopted wild horses and burros: Continue to work with partners and other stakeholders to evaluate potential improvements to the Adoption Incentive Program, consistent with relevant laws and regulations. Ensure all adoption applications and agreements clearly and consistently state that the adopter must provide humane care and require the adopter to certify that they will not knowingly sell or transfer ownership of an adopted animal to any person or organization that intends to resell, trade or give away the animals for slaughter or processing into commercial products.

Improve the screening of adoption applicants to better ensure that ineligible individuals are identified and excluded from participating in the adoption program, consistent with relevant laws and regulations. Conduct an inspection of wild horses and burros adopted through the Adoption Incentive Program within six months of adoption date, rather than twelve months. Have a veterinarian certify all title applications for wild horses and burros adopted through the Adoption Incentive Program in order to receive the incentive payment. Increase posting of warning notices at livestock sale facilities, highlighting criminal penalties for illegally selling untitled wild horses and burros. Continue to refer cases to relevant U.S. Attorneys for potential violations under 18 USC 1001 for making false or misleading statements on adoption and title applications and agreements. Evaluate changes to federal regulations that strengthen protections for adopted wild horses and burros. Find additional details on the planned changes to the Adoption Incentive Program. Current estimates suggest there are more than three times the number of wild horses and burros on public lands than is ecologically sustainable. Many of the oversized herds are negatively impacting native plant communities, wildlife, and important ecosystem functions. The Adoption Incentive Program is a component of the existing Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Program that has increased the number of animals placed into private care.
