What if we could use technology to help increase fluency for people who stutter? The human voice is one of the few things that binds us together as the human race. There are many ways in which a greater understanding of the voice could benefit humanity. Beyond words and emotion, the voice plays a key role in how we interact with others, with technology and even with ourselves. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Rébecca Kleinberger , Voice Creative Technologist and Research Affiliate at the MIT Media Lab. Students, teachers, and parents are encouraged to join independently or in groups. This session is most relevant to grades six and above. Please note that this session will be in French.

Who: Kayla Rafuse Where: North Queens Community School Twitter: @RafuseKayla Students at North Queens Community School have been using OSMO kits to enhance their understanding of coding. Through a Brilliant Labs Grant, Gr. 1 /2 students were given 7 OSMO kits. This allows students to practice their coding abilities in small groups. When coding, students are able to work on their problem solving, sequencing, sorting and logic skills. The games are interactive and increasingly challenging, allowing them to be fun and educational. Having students learn about coding will provide them with many opportunities and help them thrive in a progressively digital society.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
Students in Mme. Mangione’s grade 4/5 class At École Burton Ettinger Elementary are creating and learning about podcasts! They used various materials and designs for their desktop recordings studios, and tested them by coding Microbits to monitor sound levels. Through making, they learned a ton about sound absorption, coding, and they were able to use these skills to improve the quality of their podcast recordings in school.
