Innovative Fashion
Over the years, fashion has emerged beyond essential functions as a creative medium, allowing us to express ourselves uniquely. However, with this progress, the fashion industry has also become the source of many global problems leading to unsustainability, instability and inequity. What if we could use fashion as a powerful instrument to bring a positive change? How can we design sustainable, culturally diverse and inclusive fashion? Join us in this challenge to discover many ways to innovate fashion. Design actuated garments and accessories that change form. Combine craft and tech and create textiles with new behaviors. Discover etextiles, biofabrication, hybrid-body craft and more to reframe the fashion industry, making it more creative, more ethical and more conscious.

Inspiration Maker This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this New Brunswick's "Inspiration Maker!"
WHO: NATHAN HYNES WHERE: EXPLOITS VALLEY HIGH TWITTER HANDLE: @HYNESCBU15HGP @EXPLOITSVALLEYH Mr. Hynes is the Technology Coordinator/Teacher at Exploits Valley High, in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. He is actively involved with teaching his students all there is to know about technology and how to further their knowledge in the best way possible. Any event that becomes available whether it be with Brilliant Labs, The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, or Bounce NL Mr. Hynes is sure to get his students involved. Mr. Hynes is part of the new TCP pilot program partnership with the NL Department of Education, as well as the Exploits Valley High Tech Club which involves self directed learning using the 3D printer to program and design products.
Project Highlight
In Alison Edwards classes at O’Donel High School in St. John’s, NL, students found themselves using maker materials and their imagination to represent symbols from their dramatic works. As part of their study of ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Come From Away’ respectively, the classes completed an assignment where one of the choices was to represent a symbol from their piece in a 3d form. Students used the 3d printer as well as classroom maker space materials to showcase their understanding of the ELA curriculum. At first, students were hesitant to use the technology, but as one or two brave students started designing their own 3d prints in Tinkercad or incorporating Chibitronics LED circuits, others were inspired and began work on their own products. By the end of the project, the 3d printer was going non-stop and the students were proud of what they had designed. Giving the students the option to incorporate technology and maker materials into their work, including the support of Ms. Lee made the classroom atmosphere exciting and the assignment personalized. Students could use the tech to do their best work, not have the tech do the work for them. They were involved and engaged and have already asked about other projects where they can use the maker materials to enhance their work.
