Inspiration Makers! This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this New Brunswick's "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: NORMA AYLWARD WHERE: BISHOP FEILD ELEMENTARY, NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR TWITTER : @NORMAAYLWARD Norma Aylward is an Assistant Principal and Teacher Librarian at Bishop Feild Elementary in St. John’s, NL. She has transformed the school’s library into a makerspace for creative and innovative student projects. Students have been given the opportunity to become makers by focusing and directing their own learning through projects. Most recently, she has worked withGrade 3 students on their Hackoween projects.Students have been coding, 3D designing, sewing, doing circuitry and more - all supported by Norma. This support also overflows to teachers at Bishop Feild who want to move forward with makercentred learning With Ms. Aylward’s support, Grade 3 students Aj and Kingston used their creativity to design and hack some Halloween decorations in the Bishop Field Elementary makerspace. They set out to make a skull and pumpkin spookier by adding circuits to create glowing eyes. Their making started with creating a plan and outlining steps they needed to take to complete their creation. Kingston and AJ were so dedicated to their circuit design that once completed they taught 5 other students in the class how to make a successful copper circuit!
