Designing with Biomaterials with Fiona Bell December 8th 1:30 pm AST Are you interested in learning about cooking sustainable clothing? Join us for another exciting talk to explore ways to create biodegradable interfaces. Our speaker’s research happenaCTRLs at the intersection of material science, biodesign, and humancomputer interaction. This talk will focus on more-than-human design, biomaterials, biological human-computer interaction, and bio-wearables. Fiona will also highlight the importance of care, patience, and understanding when designing with living materials.

Innovative Fashion
Over the years, fashion has emerged beyond essential functions as a creative medium, allowing us to express ourselves uniquely. However, with this progress, the fashion industry has also become the source of many global problems leading to unsustainability, instability and inequity. What if we could use fashion as a powerful instrument to bring a positive change? How can we design sustainable, culturally diverse and inclusive fashion? Join us in this challenge to discover many ways to innovate fashion. Design actuated garments and accessories that change form. Combine craft and tech and create textiles with new behaviors. Discover etextiles, biofabrication, hybrid-body craft and more to reframe the fashion industry, making it more creative, more ethical and more conscious.

Inspiration Maker
This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this Nova Scotia's "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: SHEILA LEBLANC WHERE: ÉCOLE SECONDAIRE DE CLARE
We offer free massive open online courses through our learning management system (LMS)? With 14 courses ready for you to learn at your own pace, like BioMaking and Machine Learning and more on the way, your students will love to explore, learn, and earn microaccreditations. Sheila is l’ agente de développement scolaire et communautaire at École Secondaire de Clare. She has taken on a new and creative roll at school by making the Brilliant Labs makerspace her new home. An artist at heart, Sheila is no stranger to innovation and she has been developing brilliant projects with students and teachers using traditional materials and her new favourite tool the Glowforge laser cutter. As a newcomer to the makerspace Sheila has been bubbling over with ideas and enthusiasm!

Afterschool Makerspace Drop-in Join us for a drop-in afterschool Makerspace program beginning Dec 8thand running to the end of the school year at JL Ilsley High School. It runs every Thursday from 2:30-4:30 pm for grades 6 - 12.
You can make a difference this Holiday Season by donating to Brilliant Labs, and supporting youth education and empowerment in Atlantic Canada.
Grade 8 students at École Secondaire de Clare are learning about ancient civilizations in their Sciences humaines class. They are using technology to explore the creative expressions and motifs of these cultures. These designs were cut using the glowforge laser cutter, and depict traditional mosaic tile, book making, lanterns and engravings
InnovateNB Celebration
On behalf of the Brilliant Labs team, we would like to thank #InnovateNB for awarding Brilliant Labs the inaugural Innovation Champion Award on November 22nd at the InnovateNB Celebration event and to the office of Wayne Long (Saint John–Rothesay), for nominating us. Innovation Champion: This award recognizes the efforts and commitment of our team to youth, educators, and the schools and communities we support. We are looking forward to continuing our work in helping New Brunswickers develop important digital skills and competencies and applying them to experiential, STEAM-based learning projects often linked to sustainable development and socially responsible initiatives.
