WHO: ISSAC RAFUSE

WHERE: DR JC WICKWIRE ACADEMY

TWITTER HANDLE: @RAFUSEISAAC

The students at Dr J C Wickwire Academy have been working hard on several projects. One of our projects was building skateboard decks Brilliant Labs also supported us with purchasing tools and maintenance gear so that students can maintain the gear they use and modify it to suit how they want to skate We have been running a skateboard program for students every morning and lunch hour for four years now

We have small groups of students who come in everyday during skateboarding to create murals The largest of these is in the gymnasium and takes up an entire wall, After the Mural was complete we set up a climbing wall with the completed mural as our backdrop

The PhysEd teacher incorporates the climbing wall into his classes all the time Our recent endeavors have made use of a Cricut machine we received from Brilliant Labs. We are rebuilding old wooden furniture and using the Cricut to design and apply creative art to the refinished furniture. The students love this Last year we received a silk screen for designing and making Tshirts We have also been using the Cricut machine and a graphic design program to create templates for our silk screens and we have made shirts for our school sports teams We intend to make Tshirts to sell to continue to fund the silk screening program for students. The students have become very creative in using the Cricut and silk screen to make their own unique Tshirts. They have had fun experimenting with different design techniques and multiple color patterns
