WINTER BUSHWALKS
Chosen for their ample sunshine or their winter mists, these five walks can be enjoyed in the winter or anytime for those with adventurous spirits keen to explore the great outdoors
BUNYAVILLE REGIONAL PARK Closer to home and only 20 minutes from the CBD is Bunyaville. This is as much a popular picnic spot for families as it an opportunity to take some short walks along shared walking trails with facilities including toilets and wood fire BBQ’s for a hot breakfast on a winter day.
TULLAWALLAL CIRCUIT BINNA BURRA Okay, it’s a fair drive just for a 5km bushwalk but Binna Burra offers the spectacular rainforests that one expects from fantasy movies, with huge exposed roots, mists in the trees and birds en mass.
SUMMIT TRACK MOUNT COOT-THA There is more than one trail to scale the Mt Coot-tha summit with the shortest being a one hour round walk from Slaughter Falls.
WINTER BUSHWALK IDEAS:
WOMPOO CCT MAPLETON This easy 1.3km circuit is given the name Woompoo after the call of the Wompoo Fruit Dove that you will hopefully hear as you traverse through the trail, possibly making time for a short detour to Peregrine Lookout while enjoying views of Mapleton Falls. SPRINGBROOK LOOKOUT Take a short, enchanting walk to the Best Of All Lookout (only 700m)! The path takes you past ancient Antarctic Beeches, trees said to be over 1,000 years old. The track is suitable for all ages, and is completely lined with bitumen.
