BRISBANE COMEDY FESTIVAL IS PRESENTED BY BRISBANE POWERHOUSE BRISBANE POWERHOUSE IS BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL’S CENTRE FOR LIVING ART
We acknowledge the Jagera/Turrbal peoples, the First Nation Traditional Owners of the land on which we gather. We pay respects to all Elders past and present and acknowledge the young leaders who are working beside our Elders in our cultural industries. We recognise all First Nation peoples as the original storytellers of these lands and acknowledge the important role they continue to play in our community.
Comedy is all about shared experiences. Being able to laugh about that ‘thing’ in a room full of other people is like medicine; and don’t we all need a good dose after the year that was 2020! Cancelling our Festival in its final week last year was devastating, to our artists, our venues and our partners. After so long, I am so excited to bring you Brisbane Comedy Festival 2021. Still Australia’s fastest growing comedy festival, this year we bring you more than 50 (COVID-safe) shows, featuring Australia’s cream of comedy. From all over, we have radio stars and people you have seen on the telly, to epic storytellers, improvisers and musical comedy genius’, as well as some choice local talent. This year’s Festival has something for everyone. Shake off the lockdowns and have a good laugh – we all deserve it! Phoebe Meredith Director Brisbane Comedy Festival
Here’s my joke about actually leaving the house and having a good time again. A skeleton walks into a bar. The bartender says, “What’ll you have?” The skeleton says, “Gimme a beer and a mop.” If you’re like me, the one thing that you’re now desperate to do after the year-that-shall-notbe-named is get back with a bunch of mates and have a massive laugh. A sandwich walks into a bar. The barman says: “Sorry, we don’t serve food in here.” Brisbane Powerhouse is the home of comedy in Queensland, and our building will be a magnet, bringing our country’s greatest comedians back into Brisbane. Of course, it’s not just us. Brisbane Comedy Festival is one of the city’s biggest events and we’re proud to again have The Fortitude Music Hall and The Tivoli back presenting comedy. Special thanks to our Brisbane Comedy Festival partners for their support, helping us to share much-needed laughs, and to you our devotees who keep coming back for more. Don’t hold back - join us for side-splitting laughter, and remember what Steve Martin said: Comedy is the art of making people laugh without making them puke. Kris Stewart Artistic Director Brisbane Powerhouse

Brisbane Comedy Festival is back! After the past year, it’s the event we are all craving for, bringing much-needed laughter and shining a spotlight on Brisbane.
Welcome to Brisbane Comedy Festival, a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in Brisbane’s local culture and community, and hopefully explore some of the superb tourism experiences on offer here. The impacts of the pandemic have provided incredible challenges, but thanks to the hard work of Queenslanders our state was one of the first to put in place a COVID Safe Event Framework which paved the way for events such as this one to take place. The Queensland Government is proud to support Brisbane Comedy Festival, through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program and it is a feature on our It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar. Events are an important part of our state’s economic recovery from the pandemic because they attract visitors to the region which stimulates the local economy and supports local jobs. Events are also an important opportunity for communities, friends, families and visitors to come together, creating community pride and reconnecting us.
With a massive line-up Australia’s best comedians taking over our home of comedy at Brisbane Powerhouse, in 2021 there’ll also be shows at The Tivoli and The Fortitude Music Hall. From side-splitting stand-up veterans to improvisation comedy and more, there’s something to tickle everyone’s funny bone! I’m extremely proud of the significant impact the annual Brisbane Comedy Festival makes to our City’s economic and cultural landscape. I encourage you to join in, have a laugh (or two!) and make the most of Brisbane’s balmy winter. Adrian Schrinner Lord Mayor
Congratulations to all those involved in organising this event – may it be a successful one. If you are visiting for the event, I encourage you to make some time to explore the diverse tourism experiences on offer in this beautiful region. The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP Minister for Tourism Industry Development and Innovation and Minister for Sport PAGE 03

ROSIE WATERLAND Born while her parents were on the run from drug dealers, Rosie Waterland spent her childhood shapeshifting, adjusting and course-correcting based on the scenario. Mum’s a sex worker? Adjust. In foster care? Shape-shift. Dad collapses drunk in the middle of a busy road? Course correct, figure it out. When your world keeps changing, you kind of have no choice but to keep changing with it. A household name since her hilarious Bachelor recaps became essential pop culture reading, and an awardwinning podcaster for her blockbusters Mum Says My Memoir Is A Lie and more recently, Just the Gist, Rosie is also a best-selling author, comedian and screenwriter.
