In 2022, we’re bringing you the biggest Brisbane Comedy Festival yet, with more than 100 artists and over 350 shows from stand-up to improv, musical comedy to sketch. As Australia’s fastest growing comedy festival, our team takes great delight in presenting this year’s veritable treasure trove of talent. Across five hysterical weeks, you’ll see the return of international artists and we’re excited to bring back shows in our smaller rooms, where emerging and independent artists can really shine. In 2022, I’m extremely proud to program a strong contingent of local comedians, to focus on First Nations artists and include our first musical! The past two years have been challenging for all of us, not the least artists who make their living from live performance, and venues such as Brisbane Powerhouse, The Tivoli and The Fortitude Music Hall that provide a haven for live experience and support the work of creatives. We know too that you, our loyal audience, deserve to once again enjoy the festival buzz. Be sure to get out and make the most of it!

It’s the citywide festival we’ve all been waiting for! Brisbane Comedy Festival returns bigger and better this year, bringing with it much-needed laughter and the buzz of live performances over a five week period. The Brisbane Comedy Festival delivers significant social, cultural and economic opportunities to our city, attracting international superstars alongside impressive local talent and Australia’s most-loved comics. I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy all that is on offer by supporting artists and the live performance venues involved, particularly after the impact COVID has had over the past few years. They say a day without laughter is a day wasted. With a massive citywide line up at Brisbane Powerhouse, The Tivoli and The Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane’s thriving creative industries certainly have a lot to offer. I encourage you to join in and book now! Adrian Schrinner Lord Mayor

Thanks to our partners who help make our wild comedy dreams a reality, especially our friends at Cancer Council Queensland. This year we’re throwing caution to the wind and presenting Brisbane Comedy Festival like never before. ENJOY! Phoebe Meredith Director Brisbane Comedy Festival PAGE 02

HILARIOUS. BROADSHEET

OLIVER TWIST GRIOT

One of the things I did in the refugee camp was apply to study in Canada. Part of the process was a questionnaire. So we were sitting in the refugee camp and literally the first question they asked us was, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” And I was like “Anywhere but here…” Imagine if Hitler kept doing rounds of people in concentration camps asking them where they hope to be in five years. A question for you, “Where do you see yourself at this comedy festival?”

On 13 March 2020, Harley Breen announced to the country on national TV that the Australian arts scene was cancelled... because of a bat... and that was the easiest part of his past two years. He also had another child, moved house three times, filmed a brand-new TV show, packed three kids into a mid-size SUV for a multi-state road trip, was the face of a beer cologne (of course) and bought a dog. It’s been relentless. The phrase “good decision” gets thrown around a lot, but not in this show.

TIME 7pm PRESENTED BY New Farm Neighbourhood Centre in partnership with Brisbane Comedy Festival

Venue & Transport

119 LAMINGTON STREET, NEW FARM QLD PUBLIC TRANSPORT CityCat: The New Farm Ferry Terminal is located approximately 200m from Brisbane Powerhouse. Bus: The 195 and 196 bus services stop at the end of Brunswick Street at Oxlade Drive, on the East side of New Farm Park. The 199 bus stops at Merthyr Road and Hawthorne Street. Both stops are a short walk from Brisbane Powerhouse. Taxi & Rideshare: We definitely endorse a cheeky taxi or rideshare to give you time to enjoy a glass of wine or a bite to eat at Bar Alto or Mary Mae’s. There is a dedicated drop off/pick up area at the New Farm Park entrance to Brisbane Powerhouse. PARKING If you’re planning on driving, we encourage you to arrive 40–50 minutes early to give yourself enough time to find a park. Our car park operates 24/7 where parking can be paid for at the automatic pay station located adjacent to the car park, or on exit. To skip the queue following the show, you can pay the $9 flat rate for parking after 5pm, at the auto pay station adjacent to the car park. Hot tip – give New Farm Park a go before you try our car park. If you’re riding, bicycle racks are located outside the Stores Building and Brisbane Powerhouse.

PAGE 58

52 COSTIN ST, FORTITUDE VALLEY QLD PUBLIC TRANSPORT Bus: The closest bus stops are The Old Museum (Bowen Bridge Rd) or the Jubilee Hotel (Saint Pauls Tce at Constance Street). Train: Fortitude Valley station is the closest train station to The Tivoli. Exit onto Brunswick St and turn right, walking away from the Valley Mall. Taxi & Rideshare: Costin St is a one-way street with a loading zone right outside the venue. Rideshare services can be accessed via their respective smartphone apps. Yellow Cabs and Black & White cabs can be booked by calling 13CABS. PARKING There is no on-site parking at The Tivoli. You can find some street parking in the surrounding areas but it’s limited. The closest car park is on King Street which is free for the first three hours on weekends and after 5pm on weekdays, otherwise it’s just $10.

PAGE 59

312 BRUNSWICK ST, FORTITUDE VALLEY QLD PUBLIC TRANSPORT Bus: There are many bus stops located in the Valley, many less than a minute’s walk from the venue. Please search TransLink Journey Planner for more details. Train: Fortitude Valley station is located only 200 metres away, a three-minute stroll and will cater for all train lines in Brisbane including the Gold Coast, Ipswich and Nambour (Sunshine Coast). Taxi & Rideshare: If you’re searching for a taxi you will find taxi ranks spread throughout the Valley to get you home quickly and safely. We are located on a pedestrian mall so the closest of those is located at the top of the Brunswick Street Mall on Ann Street. Other locations include Wickham Street outside McWhirters, Brunswick Street North and Brunswick Street South. PARKING The car park for the venue is conveniently located directly under The Fortitude Music Hall, accessible via Warner Street. There are several other parking options close by – The Chinatown Carpark with access from Gipps or Duncan Streets, a short walk across the Chinatown Mall and through the TC Beirne Building straight to The Fortitude Music Hall or McWhirters Carpark, located directly behind the venue, accessed via Warner Street and Ballow Street. Book online for cheaper rates.
