POLICE, CRIME & ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR UPDATE 4TH AUGUST - 17TH AUGUST 2021

CRIME OVERVIEW There have been 311 crimes reported over the last 2 weeks with a third of all of these (almost 100) being violence against the person, which includes injury and non injury assaults. This is an increase of a third since the last period.Crime in general is still 13.1% down in comparison to last year. There have been 132 incidents of antisocial behaviour reported with the peak reporting time of 1-4 am. Pedal cycle thefts are still ongoing and there have been 33 recorded in the last 2 weeks with high numbers stolen from Broad Quay and College Green.

CAR CRIME Over the last 6 months there was a spike in Theft From Motor Vehicles (TFMV) in and around the Redcliffe area. It was identified that a wellknown car thief had moved into one of the high-rise blocks in Redcliffe shortly before the increase in thefts. His MO was to target car parks of nearby hotels and businesses and steal high value items, walking back and forth to the block he lives in to store the stolen goods. Despite securing several convictions for this

male after a short period, these thefts began again and residents were reporting that he was targeting their vehicles at night, causing them much distress. Officers sought advice from the Police ASB team who liaised with partners at Bristol City Council and established that due to the offences being committed within the vicinity of his property this would be grounds to apply for possession of his property. Whilst possession proceedings are underway, the ASB

team have obtained a Criminal Behaviour Order following a conviction for a high value theft from a vehicle parked in a City Centre hotel car park. The conditions of the CBO prevent the male from entering any car parks within a mile of his home address and prevents him from accessing the communal areas in which he is storing the stolen property.
