The radios are used by venues, CCTV operations centres, street pastors and the police, and are an excellent tool in keeping Bristol city centre safe. The police are only a phone call away and, while we are looking to build on our visibility with Operation BRIO, the Radio system provides an extra invaluable communication link. This bridges the gap between various partners and

The police do not hold statistics on how often the radios are used; they are a device to help you maximise the wellbeing of your customers and staff and therefore by adopting the use of the radios, venues are shown to be supporting the 4 Licensing Objectives of public safety, public nuisance, crime and disorder and protection of children from harm.

NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLES previously seen patrolling around the city centre, with their distinctive dark grey base and green rear quarters.

With the impending arrival of the new clean air zone in the city centre, The Bridewell NPT has taken delivery of three brand new all-electric vehicles. The new Renault ZOE is a change from the traditional white “Noddy” cars

The ZOE has a range of up to 239 miles and can do up to 90 miles on a single 30minute charge from our rapid chargers. Two of the ZOEs will be based out of the bridewell police station with exclusive use by neighbourhood officers, and the third will be utilised by the officer covering Bristol University. With the rollout of the new all-electric vehicles it may not be long before more neighbourhood vehicles are replaced with electric ones in an effort to combat pollution.

DRINK SPIKING Just after midnight on Sunday 9th January police responded to a report of a young woman who collapsed unconscious in Canons Road. There was an ambulance on the scene that was treating the casualty as a potential victim of suspected drink spiking.

After the individual was roused it was confirmed that the incident had taken place in a well-known nearby nightspot. Shortly afterwards, and due to the prompt and effective actions of officers, the suspect for the alleged spiking was identified and arrested close by.

The victim was subsequently conveyed to the hospital for treatment and when stable was able to give urine samples to test for illicit drugs- important in such investigations. Fortunately, she was discharged from the hospital the next morning.

In recent weeks and over the Christmas period police have noted a reduction in such drink spiking incidents in Bristol. Nevertheless, police still are advising the public to take suitable precautions, to remain ever vigilant and to continue to be wary of accepting drinks from strangers when going out for the evening in the city.
