BRITISH POLO DAY RUNNING TOTAL - $1,901,379 USD RAISED TO-DATE In countries all over the world, polo has a long history of raising significant funds for worthy causes. Wherever possible, British Polo Day is entirely committed to bringing to bear the full weight of its partners, its network and its creative talent to this end. A ‘gold standard’ approach has always been sought. Every pound /dollar raised goes directly to the chosen charities in each country, with no foundation or administration fee applied. All BPDsourced lot proceeds are evenly distributed and all charity-sourced lots go directly to those charities. -It is a matter of great pride to British Polo Day, to be on the cusp of $2mUSD, raised for various good causes around the world, from a standing start in 2011. There was a window of time, in the early days soon after foundation, when British Polo Day was raising more money for charity than it was generating in revenue as a business. Whereas ‘the international language of the horse’ has been the muchheralded common bond, philanthropy has been a more privately held common cause uniting our community and surrounding what is now a well-established global platform. We are greatly indebted to the generosity of our lot providers and our guests for their ongoing willingness to place bid after bid after bid in the various auctions around the world. Full details concerning each of our wonderful charities can be found in the upcoming pages and do please make sure that you take the time to review the important ‘conditions of sale’ for all lots which are located on pages 66-69. We also hope you’ll see fit to participate in the Givergy and Live Auctions as the lots really are spectacular. As ever - as far as it is within your power to do so - please do bid with reckless abandon. The British Polo Day Fundraising Committee

JONATHAN BENSON - LIVE AUCTIONEER -
It is a complete honour and delight for me to be asked to conduct the auction for British Polo Day. As a country auctioneer - more used to selling of paintings of polo pla yers and matches - I can think of nothing better than participating in such a wonderful event. On a personal note, I’ve been involved with horses all my life (but I’ve sadly never been fit enough for polo!). My grandfather was one of the largest breeders of Shire Horses in Essex; I’ve long been a keen supporter of my local hunt and also a keen race goer. It is also my privilege to be the area judge for East Anglian Point to Pointing and perhaps unsurprisingly, I specialise in field sports antiques, pictures and collectables. Reeman Dansie was established in the heart of Colchester in 1881 and has become one of the most highly regarded regional auctioneers in the country. Over the last 135 years they have grown from a small local auction house with a regional outlook, to one with a global outlook and international reputation. Not to mention the only auction house to have specialist Royal Sales, including The William Tallon collection - the Queen Mothers butlers’ personal collection of mementoes and works of art, gathered over his 51 years of loyal service to the Royal Household. This sale attracted national and international press, worldwide television coverage and totalled over £450,000. Another recent find was a 15th century Chinese Ming porcelain dice bowl, which despite being badly cracked and crazed fetched £108,000, much to the owners delight - particularly as until recently, it had been the sleeping place of the lady’s cat. The Telegraph amusingly reported the result as ‘Moggy Ming’! I urge you to bid generously and look forward to extracting money from you throughout the auction!

HEAD INJURY THROUGH SPORTS
HITS (Head Injury Through Sport) was co-founded by Sandra Cronan, Greta Morrison and myself. Each of our lives had been touched by the trauma of head injuries sustained personally or by loved ones with life-threatening consequences, whilst playing polo. Our mission at HITS is to help those who have suffered head injuries through sport by enhanced medical management and subsequent aftercare. Research has shown that recovery and a good outcome is vastly improved by early, accurate diagnosis and treatment, as well as aftercare to deal with long term disability. Our aim is to play a significant part in closing the £1.35 million target of The National Brain Appeal to create a Neuroimaging Analysis Centre at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. HITS is delighted to be associated with British Polo Day India – alongside the Mahara ja of Jodhpur’s Indian Head Injury Foundation – as well as today’s British Polo Day GB event, held on home ground, at the base of the Black Bears Polo Team. Last year’s inaugural event was a wonderful success on all fronts and I look forward to seeing this continue in the years ahead. Onwards and upwards!

THE EVE BRANSON FOUNDATION
“Eve Branson’s impassioned, unwavering and ongoing support of local communities living in the Berber villages of the High Atlas Mountains is a rallying cry that British Polo Day has been delighted to follow since our first visit to Morocco, and a model for social entrepreneurship in remote areas all around the world”. - Tom Hudson ( British Polo Day Co-Founder) Funds raised in respect of The Eve Branson Foundation, as a result of BPD GB 2016, will go towards sustainable initiatives and projects in remote Berber villages, where the focus is on capacity building and empowerment. We aim to create positive opportunities, working in partnership with each village and to bring about transformations both economically and socially. We define needs and build a spirit of trust and collaboration by working closely with village elders. We’ve learnt that with patience and determination, we can combine our entrepreneurial spirit with the Berber culture successfully. Today our initiatives include the provision of community craft houses and vocational training programmes for young women in the villages of Tansghart, Imskar, Tiwizi, Tamgounssi, Tifaouine and Asni. Women are trained by professional multi-lingual tutors to speak English and French and also to embroider and knit highquality artisan products, for which we then try to establish a marketplace. We’ve seen entire communities transformed, through the provision of facilities that enhance village life and through the income-generating initiatives we’ve initiated. We are hugely thankful to the British Polo Day team for this great opportunity and with your added support and generosity, we can help more local people to generate new income streams and enhance individual skills. “The philosophy of the foundation is to teach the local girls lifelong skills, removing the need to beg or ask for charity, for the Berbers are a proud, happy people.” Eve Branson The Eve Branson Foundation

ONE DROP FOUNDATION One Drop is an international non-profit organization, created by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté, in order to to raise awareness of the global water crisis. Lack of access to water is a harsh reality for millions worldwide; 2.4 billion people live without access to adequate sanitation and 663 million people live without access to safe water. More than just a statistic, this is an everyday reality. Access to safe water is one of the most efficient ways to support individual and community development. However, water projects can fail due to the absence of an integrated approach. Problems can range from poorly designed or broken pumps and inappropriate maintenance training, to contaminated water points, due to lack of sanitation facilities and unhealthy hygiene practices. To prevent and help solve these problems, One Drop has developed the unique A∙B∙C for Sustainability™ intervention approach: a winning combination of strategic and operational initiatives, designed to address sustainable access to safe water. A is for Access: We provide people with the infrastructure for improved access to safe water - for consumption and hygiene, as well as sanitation. B is for Behaviour: We use locally inspired social art forms, to raise awareness, to mobilize communities and to influence positive behavioural change over the long term. By initiating a participative conversation for social change through art, we seek to inspire the new habits and patterns required, to maintain and sustain access to safe water and protect the health of communities. Positive habits are created through participative activities, such as artistic learning workshops and multidisciplinary theatre shows. C is for Capital: We work with local partners to develop financial products, which support affordable, market-based solutions and accelerate access to safe water and adequate, equitable sanitation. THE SUMBA FOUNDATION
The Sumba Foundation was founded in 2001 to lessen the harsh impacts of poverty on the Indonesian island of Sumba. The Foundation aims to achieve this with a focus on: access to potable water, ending malaria, promoting general health and improving education - while preserving and respecting the cultural traditions of Sumba’s people. We are confident that building a foundation for a better life is the way to end shortage on the island and that given the right tools, the people of Sumba will have the means to create sustainable economies to better their own livelihoods. Therefore our aid philosophy is to help people to help themselves. We do not believe in giving on-going handouts or spending large sums of money to solve problems. We believe that small, wellmanaged, cost efficient projects, harvest the best results. Our aid plan is based on more than sixteen years of first hand knowledge regarding the island and its people. During those years we have closely observed the Sumbanese way of life and consulted Sumba’s residents about their most urgent needs and aspirations. We have also gathered information from anthropologists, foreign volunteers, aid workers and the government. The Sumba Foundation is not simply about sharing our resources with those in need but about getting involved in the world around us and affecting positive change, which in this case is all at once eye opening and deeply humbling. Simply put our work is rooted in the knowledge that the most effective action must come from within the context of our own lives and hearts. As members of the human family, each of us is responsible and we thank you in advance for your donations, which are critical to our ongoing success. To learn more visit, www.sumbafoundation.org

WINGS FOR LIFE When you support Wings for Life, 100% of the money you donate goes directly to spinal cord injury research, as the charity’s founders generously cover all of the administrative costs. Every eight hours someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury and most become wheelchair users as a result. Spinal cord injury affects people of all ages and backgrounds and is most commonly caused through road traffic accidents, falls, illness or sports. It can happen in a moment, but the impact lasts a lifetime. After an injury most people live through months, if not years of rehabilitative therapy. There is currently no medical treatment available to repair an injured spinal cord. Wings for Life funds ground breaking, scientific research and clinical trials around the globe, aimed at finding a cure for spinal cord injury. Since being founded in 2004, 124 spinal cord research projects have been funded at some of the world’s most well respected institutes: the University of Cambridge (UK), Harvard Medical School (USA) and the Karolinska Institute (Sweden). A number of vital breakthroughs have been made. Wings for Life’s research focuses on how to minimise damage, stimulate repair and restore function after an injury has been sustained. The developments so far provide strong hope that treatment options are closer than they have ever been. However, intensive research work and clinical trials are needed before a breakthrough in human medicine can be achieved. Funding clinical trials is significantly more costly than basic and pre-clinical research. Invariably, millions of pounds are required to develop a treatment / therapy through the vital stages of a trial. Wings for Life will continue its strategic mission to drive forward clinical research, however in order to do so, Wings for Life needs to raise as much money as possible. THE EVE BRANSON FOUNDATION
- GIVERGY DONATE TAB - SUPPORT A PROJECT WITH THE EBF The Eve Branson Foundation was established to support education, employment and healthcare initiatives in the rural villages of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. Since the beginning, the Foundation has been dedicated to enhancing living standards in some of the most impoverished communities; very often these villages lack basic amenities, illiteracy can be as high as 98% and girls often leave school at 13 with little prospects for their futures. Our aim is to create positive opportunities, working in partnership with each village, to bring about transformations both economically and socially. We define needs and build a spirit of trust and collaboration. We have learned with patience and determination how to successfully combine our entrepreneurial spirit with the Berber culture. We provide professional training for local women and girls, purchase essential crafthouse materials and resources and participate in the advancement of the rural mountain development schemes. “The philosophy of the foundation is to teach the local girls lifelong skills, removing the need to beg or ask for charity, for the Berbers are a proud, happy people.”

ONE DROP FOUNDATION - GIVERGY DONATE TAB - SUPPORT A PROJECT WITH ONE DROP One Drop works across 3 continents, in Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India and Nicaragua. By the end of 2017, One Drop will be present in 11 countries. Our projects have received international recognition for: • ‘’Water for Life’’ United Nations – Water Best Practices Award in the “best participatory, communication, awareness-raising and education practices” category • Project Innovation Award Development (2013); International Water Association • International Water Resources Association Award for innovation We’ve determined clear criteria by which to identify where in the world we can make the most difference. The ability to ensure that we will have a significant positive impact on improved access to water and sanitation is key, since it is at the heart of our mission. Equally essential is that all main stakeholders demonstrate their willingness to actively participate in the process, in order to make it a sustainable endeavour. The civil society must also be sufficiently organized, to take on a leadership role in the implementation of the project and to provide the required follow-up, to guarantee its sustainability. Lastly, a stable political and social context is an essential prerequisite for undertaking any action in favour of development. A successful project requires a democratic political context where it is possible to engage in constructive dialogue with civil society, and allow the population to take an active role in its implementation. Your support and donations are critical to the continuation of our cause and we greatly appreciate your participation. To learn more visit, www.onedrop.org

Generally speaking, people don’t realise that spinal cord injury worsens after an accident. In most cases patients lose control of further bodily functions in a process called secondary injury, which can be even more serious than the initial injury. To date, it has not been possible to monitor the damage within the spinal cord itself, but now two researchers from London - whose field of expertise is pressure within the injured spinal cord - are striving to change this. Professor Marios Papadopoulos and Doctor Samira Saadoun, from St George’s University Hospital in London, have focused their research on ways to limit secondary injury, to prevent intact nerves from dying and to preserve these important bodily functions. After they have stabilized the spine of a trial participant, Papadopoulos and Saadoun place probes on the surface of the injured spinal cord, allowing them to assess whether the cells are still alive, whether they’re getting enough oxygen and whether toxic substances are building up inside the tissue. These probes remain in the patient’s body for a week, during which time the data is fully investigated. An increase in pressure, in combination with a worsening of tissue metabolism, presents a warning sign. The pressure must be relieved, meaning that parts of the vertebrae are surgically removed in order to give the swelling more room. Papadopoulos and Saadoun have already successfully monitored 42 patients and found that as soon as the pressure is optimized (in most cases) the ability to feel below the injury site has improved and the level of paralysis has decreased. Papadopoulos dares to be optimistic and looks forward to a time when their technique can become more widespread. In the mean time the study will continue (for at least another three years) and all findings will support the Wings for Life mission - to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Your support of our mission, financial or otherwise, is always greatly appreciated and please rest assured that 100% of the money you donate will go directly to spinal cord injury research.
