South West Simmental Club Report by Dawn Shapland, Secretary WORCESTER SALE Early May and the first event in the Club’s calendar was the Spring sale at Worcester. Joint judges on the day, were Mr David Barker (Heywood herd) and Mr Richard Bell, manager of the 300 cow Bowley herd. Entries were unfortunately low, but the high standard ensured an exceptionally high clearance rate and record prices. Congratulations to Mr And Mrs Leedham with Overall Champion, Grangewood Keegan, selling for 7000gns. The Hollingsworth’s Female and Reserve Overall Champion, Midhope Kerry sold at 3850gns.
VIRTUAL HERD COMPETITION The only other club event in the year was the Virtual Herd Competition. My thanks go to all of you that had time and enough patience to take and submit photos. Following the suggestion of last year’s judge (Mr David Edwards) we requested two views (side and rear) of each entry. Special thanks go to Nick and Nadia Gwynne, of the noted Chestermann herd, who kindly judged the competition and submitted their comments. Congratulations for being awarded Overall Champion go to the Buckland family with their homebred Wellatree Kodi.
