July 17, 2015 Dear Friends: Thanks for joining us for the 21st edition of Fire Island Dance Festival and for welcoming us back again with such warmth and generosity. Dancers Responding to AIDS and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS deeply value the relationships we have built here over the past 20 years and we warmly embrace ones we are creating today. As this summer’s historic events shape and change our world, there is no better place than here in Fire Island to celebrate all that has been accomplished and to honor those who helped make it happen. This oasis has sheltered, comforted and cared for hundreds of thousands over the years who were longing to simply be true to themselves and to love whom they love. We continue to stand together to ensure brighter tomorrows for those hoping for a helping hand up or a supportive shoulder to lean on. A neighbor living with HIV/AIDS. Families in need of healthy meals. Dancers and other performing artists coping with injury, financial challenges, emotional hardships and more. We are grateful to our sponsors, ticket buyers and generous providers of services and housing who are joining us for another year. And we extend a special welcome to our first-time guests. You’re in for something special. Thank you to the dedicated members of the Fire Island Dance Festival Committee and this year’s Benefit Committee for your dedication to ensuring our fundraising remains strong, especially after last year’s record-breaking grand total. Over the years, the exceptional talents of hundreds of dancers have made Fire Island Dance Festival a defining event for DRA and now a staple of summer life on Fire Island. We are in tremendous debt to the world-class dancers and choreographers who make this festival possible, as well as the legion of volunteers and theatre professionals who transform this waterfront escape into a showcase for stunning dance performances. As you watch today’s dancers, we hope you will do so with a loving nod to the past, a sense of pride in all that has been accomplished today and a bright, hopeful eye to the future. “This,” as was said at the very first event, “is why we dance!” Best wishes,
Tom Viola Executive Director Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS

July 18, 2015 Welcome to Fire Island Dance Festival! Now in its 21st year, Fire Island Dance Festival is one of the most treasured and anticipated cultural events of our community. It has been called by one dance critic “the jewel in the crown of American dance festivals” and has been included several times in The New York Times’ list of the top 12 events of the year. The Pines is justly proud to host such a premier event. By attending this year’s festival you will be dazzled by some of the world’s best dance companies, will share in the community spirit of the Pines, and will help DRA in its impressive record of supporting both the arts and people with AIDS and other critical illnesses. FIPPOA salutes the dance festival, the committee, the dancers and all who give so much to make this festival possible each summer. It is a special pleasure this summer to again welcome Fire Island Dance Festival.

A BOUT DA N C E RS R ESPO N D I N G TO A I DS In a New York City apartment more than 20 years ago, two dozen dancers brainstormed what they could do to help so many of their colleagues who were battling AIDS. Denise Roberts Hurlin and Hernando Cortez, dancers with Paul Taylor Dance Company at the time, mobilized the group and ultimately created Dancers Responding to AIDS in 1991. It was the dance community’s first ongoing effort to raise awareness and money to directly help those living with AIDS. The vitality of DRA comes from the extraordinary compassion and efforts of the performing arts community to fund a safety net of social services for those in need. As a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, DRA helps support the essential programs of The Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative and The Dancers’ Resource while also providing grants to more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations in all 50 states. Funds raised by DRA and Broadway Cares help to ensure that those most in need have access to lifesaving medications, counseling, healthy meals, emergency financial assistance and more. DRA has proven since 1991 that what we do together makes a difference. Denise Roberts Hurlin, Founding Director Sarah Cardillo, Development Officer Christopher F. Davis, Producer

21 YEARS OF QUALITY DANCE!
In memory of my beloved partner,
Michael Young, June 27, 1946 - October 15, 2014
- Harvey Alter When you look at the night sky, and see Orion, I’ll be there. When you see someone being treated unjustly, I’ll be there. When you need a rainbow rainb to walk through your cloud, I’ll be there.
Always Breathtaking
Thank you FIDF, Matthew Warnecke & George Sheer
