A bou t Da nc e r s R e s p on di ng t o A I D S Founded in 1991, Dancers Responding to AIDS is a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. DRA relies on the extraordinary compassion and efforts of the performing arts community to fund a safety net of social services for those most vulnerable among us. Funds raised by DRA and Broadway Cares provide grants to more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations in all 50 states, as well as the essential programs of The Actors Fund, serving the performing arts community. Through these organizations and programs, DRA and Broadway Cares help to ensure that those in need have access to lifesaving medication, health care, counseling, nutritious meals and emergency financial assistance.

P rog r a m J essica L ang Dance Lines Cubed Choreography by Jessica Lang Music by John Metcalfe and Thomas Metcalf Costumes by Lisa Choules Performed by Clifton Brown, Randy Castillo, Julie Fiorenza, John Harnage, Eve Jacobs, Kana Kimura, Laura Mead, Milan Misko, Jammie Walker This performance of Lines Cubed was made possible with generous support from Underwriter Sponsors Deborah & Charles Adelman. Lines Cubed is inspired by the paintings of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. The dance references the geometric patterns from his work and is created from the idea that color is directly related to emotions and mood. M artha G raham Dance Co mpan y Rust Choreography and costumes by Nacho Duato Music: “De Profundis” by Arvo Pärt, additional music by Pedro Alcalde Performed by Abdiel Jacobsen, Lloyd Knight, Ari Mayzick, Lorenzo Pagano, Ben Schultz This performance of Rust was made possible with generous support from Underwriter Sponsor Mary Sharp Cronson. Rust seeks to stir awareness in a public that’s seemingly indifferent to the true horror of torture. B rian B r o o k s M ov ing Co mpan y Torrent Choreography by Brian Brooks Music: “Vivaldi, The Four Seasons”, recomposed by Max Richter Music used by arrangement with G. Schirmer Inc., publisher and copyright owner Costumes by Karen Young Performed by Matthew Albert, Dean Biosca, Daniel Ching, Carlye Eckert, Marielis Garcia, Ingrid Kapteyn, Victor Lozano, Whitney Schmanski This performance of Torrent was made possible with generous support from Underwriter Sponsors Duke Dang & Charles E. Rosen in loving memory of David Panzer. Fluctuating between orderly patterns and unrestrained turbulence, Torrent sends the dancers soaring to Richter’s revelatory score.

T he C hase B r o c k E x perience Splendor we only partially imagined Choreography and costumes by Chase Brock Music: “The Ballad of Mr. Steak,” “Brandenberg Stomp,” “Hahaha Pt. 2,” “Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!” by Kishi Bashi Performed by Marcus Bellamy, Camille Branton, Dean de Luna, Yukiko Kashiki, Robbie Nicholson, Caleb Teicher, Amber Pickens Splendor we only partially imagined is a high-energy burst of celebration and empathy within a community of people whose senses are being awakened to the tremendous beauty and sadness and wonder of being human. D R A FA N FA R E Composed by Philip Glass Conducted by Jonathan Sheffer Performed by EOS Orchestra DRA Fanfare is one of Philip Glass’ favorite works and was his gift to Dancers Responding to AIDS in 1999, with generous support from Jack Schlegel.
