LAKE WORTH DRAINAGE Earlier this spring, the Lake Worth Drainage District (LWDD) informed the residents of Broken Sound of work that would be done to the local canals which are owned and managed by the LWDD. In their letter, Brian Tilles, P.E. Right of Way Compliance Manager, stated, “The reasoning behind the project is to facilitate effective flood control for public safety and provide unobstructed access for emergency flood control response and routine canal maintenance. Over the summer months, year-round residents may have noticed the changes on the canals. Trees have been cleared and animals have been displaced. Birds and their nesting habitats have been affected by the loss of vegetation along the water's edge. There has been an uptick of Iguanas roaming the New Course and the parking lots. While construction cranes rule the grounds, mounds of dirt litter the canal banks and snapped tree limbs float in place. Though the cleanup process to our area will be ongoing for a few more weeks, Broken Sound is looking forward to continuing to be a natural refuge for wildlife from all over as well as a refuge to its Members.

BENEFITS OF INTRODUCING CBD TO YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE We have all heard the term CBD being used more and more frequently as an alternative for pain management, anxiety, and many other ailments. There are even CBD options for our fourlegged friends! In recent years and at an increasing rate, CBD has found its way into skincare…and rightfully so! Hemp, in general, brings many benefits for healthy skin and can be beneficial for numerous skin conditions. Essential fatty acids found in hemp seeds provide the nutrients for glowing and moistened skin, but cannabinoids found in hemp flowers can also eliminate or relieve many skin diseases. Full-spectrum CBD oil is rich in Phyto-cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, amino acids, pigments, vitamins, and other active compounds of cannabis Sativa. It is a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It relaxes the skin, prevents drying of the skin, helps with damage to the skin, and shortens the time of healing. CBD may improve the skin’s defense mechanism and its ability to regenerate and is suitable for relieving and eliminating many skin problems. Moonstone, the Spa at Broken Sound Club, has several options for CBD skincare. We plan to feature a CBD Facial and a CBD Massage at the Spa this season. Schedule a treatment or stop by to pick up a product for home use to reap the many benefits CBD has to offer.

BENEFITS OF PRODUCTS CONTAINING CBD Pain: CBD oil might help ease chronic pain by reducing inflammation. CBD binds with the CB2 receptors in our skin. As it doesn’t reach the bloodstream, it is best used for localized pain since it doesn’t offer full body pain relief. It is an ideal solution for people who have arthritis. Skin Conditions: Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease characterized by patches of abnormal skin. Topicals infused with cannabinoids can ease psoriasis by reducing the inflammation and slow down skin cells growth. CBD could help skin conditions like eczema by reducing inflammation and relieving dry skin. CBD can also help to soothe other symptoms related to eczemas, such as itching and pain. Skin Hydration: Hemp seed oil has a perfect balance of essential fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6 that can naturally and effectively nourish and moisturize any type of skin. Acne: A well-known problem for adolescents which can be effectively relieved by CBD. Studies have shown that CBD can regulate sebum production and acts against inflammation. Anti-Aging: CBD may balance and stimulate oil production. Wrinkles and fine lines are more visible if the skin is dry so increased oil production can reduce their appearance. Healing: CBD creams and serums can be used directly on closed wounds and even mosquito bites to relieve pain and itching and promote faster healing.

MASHING & PILATES With the season upon us, we wanted to take the opportunity to let you all know about some of the services that we offer here at the Fitness Center that you may not be aware of. Ki-Hara Tai Mashiatsu, otherwise known as “Mashing, is different than the traditional massage. Mashing involves compressing muscles by walking barefoot on top of the body to increase blood flow and help release myofascial tissue. The use of this system can not only improve flexibility and muscular performance but also help alleviate old injuries and prevent future ones. While this may look intimidating, our certified trainers, Lora and Fabiola, ensure the intensity of the massage is suitable to your individual needs. Anyone, especially those who live active lifestyles, can benefit from Mashing to aid in recovery, so we encourage tennis players, golfers, and fitness enthusiasts to give it a try! Pilates is another service that could benefit many of the members here at Broken Sound. Located in the back wing of the building next to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital treatment rooms is our Pilates studio, in which we offer individual and partner sessions in 30, 45, and 60-minute intervals, as well as group reformer classes. Pilates is a great way to increase flexibility, strength, and endurance, and emphasizes spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core while improving coordination and balance.

In addition to our regular services, we have a lot of fun and exciting group fitness events planned for the season, so make sure to keep an eye out for those. We have a wide range of daily group fitness classes to choose from, ranging from Yoga to Zumba to Total Body Conditioning. We look forward to seeing you at the fitness center!

NEWS FROM THE OLD COURSE It has been a great summer here at the Old Course. We’ve had a lot of play and the course continues to be in great shape due to Kevin Kaehr, and his staff. The greens are in excellent condition, we just have a few more finishing touches left and the course will be ready for another busy season. Our Broken Sound South County League had a great season making it to the semifinals. Unfortunately, we were not able to win it all this year but we had a great team lead by Governor, Larry Stone and Captains, Howard Gladston and Harvey Perry. Thanks to the help from our Membership, our golf professionals played in a lot of tournaments throughout the summer. They really represented Broken Sound Club well. Jeff Waber and Matt Newman recently qualified for the 2020 National Club Professional Championship, which means they will be headed to Texas next spring to take on the best club professionals in the country. We have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season and are just as eager as the Members for opening days to start. There are a lot of great things happening here at the Old Course and we look forward to seeing all the Membership back in town!

Reccomended by our partners at Boca Raton Regional Hospital

PERFECT FALL PRODUCE The sun is setting sooner, and the nights are getting cooler. This is the perfect time to celebrate the seasonal bounty of autumn! Your local farmers market is the place to fill your basket with these plentiful produce picks.

Pumpkin Pumpkin is full of fiber and vitamin A, which is great for your skin and eyes. Balance pumpkin’s sweetness with savory herbs, such as sage and curry. Beets Beets are edible from their leafy greens down to the bulbous root. The leaves are similar to spinach and are delicious sautéed. Roasting or steaming beets whole takes the fuss out of peeling. They also are delicious raw, shredded and tossed in salads or thinly sliced and baked into chips. Sweet Potato Full of fiber and vitamin A. Sweet potatoes can make a great breakfast side dish. Toast them in the oven until golden and serve them with poached eggs and sliced avocado. Spaghetti Squash A lower-calorie and gluten-free alternative to grain-based pasta. Cut squash in half to reveal a pocket of seeds; scoop those out and pop the two halves into the microwave or oven and cook until tender. Kale Kale is a nutrient powerhouse. One cup of raw kale has only 8 calories and is loaded with vitamins A, C and K as well as manganese. Kale is great sautéed and cooked in soup.
