WELLNESS TRENDS WE'LL BE SEEING EVERYWHERE IN 2020 The wellness industry is a $200 billion market growing 7 percent annually in the U.S. From boutique fitness classes, to supplements, to technology like Fitbits, Millennials are investing in holistic practices and trendy products to subvert the symptoms that come with being the most stressed generation in history. Fueled by pressures at work and constant connection through technology, Millennials, who make up 75 percent of the workforce, are burning out quickly. The reality is that millennials are reportedly skeptical of institutionalized healthcare and burdened by the complexities of health insurance, meaning they're frequenting their general care practitioners less and less. Below, take a look at 2020's top wellness trends: Active Recovery Adding recovery options like cryotherapy, stretching, IV therapy, massage and acupuncture provides much needed relief from overworked muscles and joints. Plan to see more technology pop up in 2020 that helps us recover after intense workouts. At Home Work Outs Squeezing in a solid workout doesn’t even require leaving the house. Thanks to technology, people are no longer tied to a set schedule or location to meet with a trainer. We’ll see many more options in 2020 as fitness influencers and studios launch their own content platforms. International Wellness Retreats Many travelers are all about infusing their vacation with a bit, or maybe an abundance, of wellness these days. In 2020, wellness travelers will continue to be drawn toward trips that combine fitness and mindfulness. Plant Based Eating We’ll see more plant-based options at restaurants and fast-food chains, more meatalternatives in supermarkets and restaurants and more meals cooked with whole, plantbased foods as interest in plant-based eating continues to rise in 2020.
Alcohol Free Bars There’s been a noticeable shift in millennials cutting back on drinking in the past year, and if the amount of non-alcoholic beverages on the market is any indication, this is going to continue into 2020. Don't be surprised if you see more completely alcohol-free bars, as well as restaurants and bars that are ramping up their non-alcoholic drink options. HIIT- High-Intensity Interval Workouts "Expect high-intensity interval workouts to continue to be a top workout choice in 2020", says Yelp in its 2020 Wellness Trend Report. Conscious Consuming People will continue to take a stronger interest in the environmental impact of the food they put on their plates in 2020, which could mean learning more about where our food comes from, how it’s produced, and how it impacts the environment and other people. Within the next year, we can expect to see companies put more of an emphasis on sustainable products that use less resources, have minimal impact on the environment, and produce less packaging and waste.

More CBD Everything If it feels like you heard about CBD constantly in 2019, you're not alone. But this trend isn't going anywhere. CBD products and treatments will continue to be popular in 2020. CBD pervades so many areas of the wellness industry, from food to skincare to body work and beyond.
Soul Nurturing Treating our bodies with kindness will be a popular practice in 2020; another way of achieving this is through mindfulness. As people look for tools to manage stress and anxiety, they’ll increasingly prioritize spiritual wellbeing through classes devoted to meditation, breathing, and stretching.
When we take a look at what the wellness landscape is projected to look like in 2020, western medicine certainly isn’t at the top of the list. The idea of taking wellness into one's own hands is largely popular as we enter the next decade. There's certainly value in group fitness and meditating as these practices support our mental well-being as well as our physical makeup (and above all, spark happiness); However, perhaps there is a happy medium and, along with these trending self-care practices, we can also take control of our health through self-exams and routine checkups and screenings. After all, health is wealth.

PARTNER WORKOUTS We hope that you all had a great holiday and a happy new year. If that means you’ve begun a new fitness program with plans for a healthier lifestyle in 2020, I hope you’ve found last month’s tips helpful to keep you on track with your goals. While it’s easy to stay motivated, initially, many find that their motivation decreases as time passes, inevitably leading to stopping altogether. If you have experienced this before, or worry this may happen to you, working out with a friend may be the perfect solution.
Finally, training with a partner is a safer option, especially for those who are inexperienced in the gym. You will always have someone with you for spotting purposes and to ensure you are maintaining proper form. You may also find that you have the confidence to branch out and try different exercises and machines with the assistance of a partner. Whatever your goals or experience level, partner training can be a benefit to just about anyone. If you have had a hard time in the past staying motivated and keeping yourself accountable then this would be a great option for you. Find a friend with goals similar to yours and come up with a game plan together. We also offer partner training sessions with a personal trainer if you need help getting started. If you need any additional help we are always here at the fitness center to assist you with your fitness goals.
In most cases, you probably notice gym goers with headphones on, working out on their own. For many individuals they feel more focused and enjoy the solo workouts; however, others may benefit from training with a partner. First and foremost, partner training will help keep you accountable. We’ve all had those days where the last thing you feel like doing is heading to the gym to work out. Having a friend to keep you focused during these situations, when you otherwise would have just skipped the workout, is a great benefit. Working out with a partner will also keep the exercises fresh and likely prevent you from becoming bored with your workouts. When a person works out on their own they tend to stick with the exercises they are familiar with and enjoy doing. Sometimes the best exercises are the ones we dislike to do, and having a friend with you will create an increased choice of exercises for both of you. Additionally, you could take turns deciding who comes up with the workout for the day so the responsibility isn’t yours for every workout session.

STOP BY THE TENNIS PRO SHOP TODAY!
THE 5 BENEFITS OF TENNIS Tennis has historically been called the sport for a lifetime. But is this true? According to scientists from variety of disciplines, tennis is still one of the best sports anyone can choose to play.
THE FACTS: 1. People who participate in tennis for three hours per week (at a moderately vigorous intensity) cut their risk of death in half from any cause, according to physician Ralph Paffenbarger of Harvard University School of Public Health (Paffenbarger not only studied over 10,000 people over a period of 20 years in his landmark 'College Alumni Health Study', but also finished over 150 marathons over the age of 45). 2. Tennis players scored higher in vigor, optimism and self-esteem while scoring lower in depression, anger, confusion, anxiety, and tension than other athletes or non-athletes, according to Dr. Joan Finn and colleagues in a study done at Southern Connecticut State University.
3. Since tennis requires alertness and tactical thinking, it may generate new connections between nerves in the brain and thus promote a lifetime of continuing development of the brain, reported scientists at the University of Illinois.
4. Tennis outperforms golf, inline skating and most other sports in developing positive personality characteristics, according to Dr. Jim Gavin, author of The Exercise Habit. 5. Competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics, inline skating, or cycling, according to studies on caloric expenditures.
Is it any wonder that scientists and physicians world-wide view tennis as the most healthful activity in which to participate? Other sports may provide excellent health benefits as well as stimulate mental and emotional growth; But, no other sport received such acclaim for its positive benefits physically, mentally and emotionally.

ON COURSE
The New Course Welcomes our Assistant Golf Professionals
We are pleased to welcome a new team of assistant professionals with extensive knowledge of golf operations and teaching experience. Please stop in the Golf Shop and introduce yourselves to Lexi Retzer, LPGA, Zach Wood, PGA and Conor Mulcahy.
Lexi Retzer, LPGA Lexi, is a Class A member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). She has been a LPGA Teaching and Club Professional for 12 years. Lexi has enjoyed working in a country club setting and is known for her contagious smile, teaching ability and outstanding customer service. She played golf at the collegiate level and is a full ride scholarship recipient. After college, she moved to Orlando, Florida where she became a Certified Golf Instructor at Nick Faldo’s Golf Institute by Marriott. Under Nick’s certification she taught high level golf schools, clinics and private instruction. After 4 years at the institute she pursued an Assistant Professional Position at Mizner Country Club, where she was also AXYS golf certified under Eric Kaplan. Originally from Silver Lake, Ohio, Lexi began playing golf at the young age of 9. She played in many junior golf tournaments and qualified for the well-known Junior Optimist Championship where she was able to travel to sunny Florida. Lexi fell in love with the beautiful climate and was instantly motivated to work even harder at her craft to obtain a full ride scholarship to Daytona State College, where her team won the National Championship. A Division 1 opportunity arose when Cleveland State became interested in Lexi, where she received another scholarship, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Communications. She resides in Delray Beach and is happy to be a part of the Broken Sound team.
Zack Wood, PGA Zack, was born and raised in Springfield, Virginia. He picked up the game of golf at age fifteen, and later decided to pursue a career in the business when he chose to attend Campbell University, in the Professional Golf Management program. He graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, along with PGA Membership as a Class "A" professional. Zack has worked at many prestigious clubs including The Newport Country Club, Indian Creek Country Club, and McArthur Golf Club. Zack has a vast range of knowledge in club-fitting, building, and equipment. Zack is looking forward to expanding his knowledge and is eager to help the membership at Broken Sound Club.
Conor Mulcahy Conor, has been at Broken Sound for 1 year and was recently promoted to Assistant Golf Professional. In September, Conor passed his Player Ability Test and he will be entering the PGA Apprenticeship Program this summer. He is dedicated to grow as a professional and has a passion for club repair. Conor was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. Hockey was his first love and he was a very talented player. After a brief junior hockey career, Conor had the opportunity at a young age to caddy at Olympia Fields Country Club. This golf course was home of the 2003 U.S Open, 2015 U.S Amateur, and the 2020 BMW Championship. It was a great experience for Conor and he found a love for the game of golf. Conor, moved to Florida to pursue a golfing career. You will always find him practicing on the range and playing golf. His last job was at W5 Golf, a website development company. Conor, is happy to be at Broken Sound Club.
