THE FORTY-TWO TIMES

FEBRUARY EDITION

Division 42 OR

Letter from the Editor Dear 42 Oregon Key Clubbers. I am stoked to reveal the new Lieutenant Governor of Division 42 Oregon in this edition of The Forty-Two Times. If you were unable to attend the election rally, here is your opportunity to read up on your new LtG. Also in this edition, you can find out about club elections, District Convention, Circle K, and Valentine’s Day Service Projects. If you are the Class of 2015-2017, really consider running for a club officer position. I was the Astoria Club Editor. I learned about advertising and learned more about leadership. As your advisers are finishing the registration process for DCON, I hope that you are able to attend and see our new Lieutenant Governor installed for his year of service as an LtG!

2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor: Marshall Ferre

Meet Marshall Ferre. If you missed the Lieutenant Governor Election in January, here is your chance to catch up on your 2014-2015 LtG! Marshall is a Junior at Seaside High School. I asked Marshall about his plans for our division next year and found out great things! He plans to increase collaboration between our Key Clubs and local sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs. He says that he would also “like to encourage more people to join key club” and that his “favorite part of being in key club is the experience of serving the community and seeing how each of the projects [he] helps with benefit us”. Marshall joined Key Club to become more involved and to know how he is able to contribute to the community. In his free time, Marshall likes playing card games, watching movies, and hunting. He loves playing sports like soccer and track and he loves video games! He enjoys hanging out with family, friends and his girlfriend. Marshall also works with an awesome crew at the Seaside Fultanos that is very helpful and supporting. Marshall will be installed as Division 42 Oregon 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor at District Convention (April 4-6th). He looks forward to serving you this coming year and I hope that you all welcome your new LtG with Orca Pride!

2014-2015 Club Officer Elections Club officers are an important part of making a Key Club run smoothly and making sure service projects are carried out. Key Clubs have Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries & Editors. These five leadership positions are important in keeping the organization successfully flowing. If you are continuing with High School next year, definitely consider running for club elections. All current club officers should hold elections in February or March so that new leadership can take office by the end of the school year.

Circle K is the continuation of Key Club into Post-Secondary Education. There are many Circle K clubs in PNW at Universities and Colleges. Best part is: if your school doesn’t have one, you can charter one! Some quick numbers: 12,600 members 18 nations First club chartered in 1947 30 districts including PNW!!

Show your Love, Save a Life Zhoe Rub from Astoria High School received the Winter Member Award. Zhoe was nominated for her enthusiasm and great work as a leader this year. She has been doing a wonderful job organizing events and planning volunteer events. Zhoe has been a member throughout all of high school and is currently the President of the Astoria High School Key Club. Zhoe recently organized a successful fundraiser for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The event was a comical male pageant called Mr. AHS. Good job with all of your hard work! Congratulations Zhoe!

With Valentine’s Day this week and love in the air for February, spread the love with Key Club. Use some time this month to volunteer and fundraise. With The Eliminate Project as our District Project, consider a Valentine’s fundraiser. Be creative and don’t be afraid to have fun with it! Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is also a wonderful organization to work with. Consider making Valentine’s Cards for Children with illnesses to brighten up a kid’s day!
