The Fortytwo Times

A Letter from the Editor Dear Key Clubbers, I hope that all is going well in your home clubs. Lieutenant governor Election rallies are rapidly approaching, so please check out the information on LtG’s in the following pages. Now is the time to be promoting the Eliminate Project, as we only have a few short months left to reach our PNW goal of $24,000. Make sure and be looking out for Eliminate Merchandise, which you can find in this edition of the Forty-two times. Seaside High School has been doing a magnificent job with Unicef and you can check out their club spotlight also in this edition, in addition to October’s member of the month. I enjoyed holding an officer training at CCEC this week and I look forward to seeing you all at DCON. We also have 2 DCM’s, one online and one in person that I hope to see all of you at. I hope that you enjoy reading this November edition of the Forty-two times. In caring and service, Your lieutenant governor Brooke Reichert

Thanksgiving: A Time to Give Back

Thanksgiving is a time for family, feasts and being thankful. As members of Key Club, it is a great time to serve our communities and step up our service. Last year my home club volunteered the morning of Thanksgiving at a local mission center for the homeless. It took a few short hours to make a huge meal for people in need. It was one of my favorite projects because we got to see the amazing power of teamwork. I suggest taking this holiday to add in a new service project if you don’t have one already. Here are some Thanksgiving service ideas: Make Turkey cards (using color paper and tracing hands) to send to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital *A fun meeting mini service project

Serve dinner at a homeless shelter Deliver a meal Run a Turkey Trot Invite a Neighbor or Classmate Take Dishes to Public Service People (firemen, policemen, ect.) Visit a Hospital Visit a Retirement Home Hold a soup kitchen for the homeless

Take the morning to volunteer by cleaning up neighborhoods or helping local organization If your Key Clubbers are on vacation, hold a feast for people in need prior to actual Thanksgiving

December DCM: The December DCM will be a combo DCM between Division 42 Oregon and Washington. It is going to be a super fun movie event at R.A. Long High School is Longview Washington on December 7th. This DCM will be from 2-5 pm. The hosting LtG is the amazing Emma Temples and she expects to see a bunch of you great 42 Oregon Key Clubbers there. If you need help finding transportation there, contact your Key Club advisor or myself and we can try to work it out. I look forward to seeing all of you there.

DUES! DUES! DUES! How to pay dues? Your club treasurer should pay dues using the Membership Update Center on Keyclub.org. The dues are $12 per member and 15 members minimum are needed to be considered and active club.

Why do we pay dues? How important are dues to our Division? Dues are essential to the structure of Key Club International. As it stands, clubs in our division have not turned in any dues to International. With Early Bird past, the next deadline is December 1st and it is one that we absolutely cannot miss. This is the regular deadline and dues for 15 members must be turned in. Make sure that you turn in your dues if you have 15 members or do some serious recruiting if you are missing the minimum amount so far. Keep in mind that our divisional dues payment affects DCON perks. As a division, ALL of our clubs need to pay dues in order to meet our goals as a district and as a division.

Divisional News Tee-shirt Contest: Key Clubbers!! Are you artistic?? Now is your chance to shine! Our division will be having a tee-shirt design contest for the Division 42 Oregon and Washington DCON shirts. Please include Key Club and our Divisional Mascot in the design. Member of the month: The Member of the Month for October is Marshal Ferre for being positive and optimistic. His good nature and smile inspires others to be positive. He raised $156.00 by himself for Unicef. Good job Marshal and congratulations!

Club Spotlight: Seaside High School SHS KC raised a grand total of $759.16 for Unicef! The club did a bake sale and wore their huge Unicef boxes to Football games and to lunch at school. Congratulations to the Seaside Club. Great job this month for Trick of Treat for Unicef! (:

The Eliminate Project The Eliminate Project is picking up speed in the PNW District. The Eliminate Project is a partnering with Key Club and Unicef in order to protect mothers and babies from Maternal and Neonatal tetanus. Our goal as the PNW District is to raise $24,000 or $2 per member. In order to meet our goal, we need each and every club to fundraise and create awareness about the Eliminate Project and PNW’s involvement. To help meet this goal, I have set a $100 goal for each club to raise by DCON. You can do this by selling bracelets, throwing pies at teachers or doing miracle minute. No matter how you do it, get out there and promote Eliminate. When you raise any money for the Eliminate Project and go to send it in, you have to email the amount you send in to me at keyclubdiv42or@gmail.com and Ha-vy Thi Le at havythile@gmail.com. We need you to do this so that we can keep track of the money that PNW is raising. I also have Eliminate merchandise for sale. I have tee-shirts sizes Small-Extra Large and 2 styles of lanyards for sale. Shirts are $15 and lanyards are $5.

Lieutenant Governor Elections It is amazing how time flies. As my term is half way over, I would like to announce the details of the 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor Election Rally. The rally will be held dually with Division 42 Washington. All Key Clubbers are invited and encouraged to attend and meet the candidates. Each club will be given 2 delegates with 1 vote each. Please keep in mind that your delegates are choosing an officer to work with your throughout the entire next year and so you should choose delegates who best represent your club needs. 1 Candidate is allowed from any of the clubs in our division to run for DIV42OR LtG. If multiple candidates want to run from a school, an election at the club level must be held PRIOR to the election rally to put forth the candidate the club wishes to nominate. The rally will be held on Saturday, January 4th in Clatskanie (specific location TBD). The rally will take place at 1 pm. Candidate packets will be released soon to each club. Any member in good standing with International and PNW District Key Club is allowed and encouraged to run for LtG. See you soon and candidates: may the odds be ever in your favor.
