Key Club Basics As we get into a new year of Key Club and are getting new members, it is very important to remember what Key Club is and what it stands for. The motto of Key Club International is “Caring-Our Way of Life”, since Key Club is all about volunteering and giving our time to those who can benefit from it. Our pledge is “I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions”. It is a good idea to recite the pledge at each meeting so that members understand the motto of Key Club and what it works to uphold.

Seattle and Portland are two of the biggest areas of Key Clubbers. Now on sale are tickets benefitting The Eliminate Project. What better way is there to spend time with fellow Key Clubbers than at a Sounders v. Timbers game in Seattle?! Regular tickets for the game are completely sold out, but luckily Key Club has pre-purchased tickets that will help benefit the Eliminate Project. Tickets are only $18, of which, $6 goes to eliminate MNT. Tickets can be registered and purchased through your LtG. There are two games which will benefit the Eliminate Project. The first is August 25th at 6:00pm versus the Portland Timbers, The second is September 13th versus Salt Lake City at 7:oo pm. Seriously, what is better than watching a soccer game and saving babies at the same time?!

Seattle Rally! With most of the Key Club rallies past already, there is still the opportunity to attend a Key Club Rally. Seattle Rally will take place on August 12th at 9:oo am. The Rally will be at Hazen High School in Renton Washington. See you there!

As the new school year begins, now is a great time to begin recruiting new members to your home clubs. Since dues are due on December 1st. Early Bird is November 1st. It is a good idea to begin recruiting freshmen right when they start High School so that they make friends and are more willing to participate with clubs. My home clubs puts registration flyers in the freshmen packet so that they know about Key Club before school even starts. This normally gets many new members each year. Attending a freshmen orientation day to show off Key Club and meet them is a great idea for the new school year. Always have interested members sign a list so that you have their name and contact info. Volunteering at the beginning of the year is important to keep members interested and attending meetings. The more opportunities there are, the more they will go to. In order to keep members attending meetings, make sure that there are icebreaker games, energy, and activities to keep their attention. Make the meetings interactive so that they want to attend each meeting. If you need any more ideas or help with recruiting members, you can email me. Membership will also be discussed at the August online DCM. Good luck!
