The formatting and decoration of this newsletter might have given away our new mascots and colors. At the May DCM, an orca and black and white coloring were voted the winners! We do still, however, need to decide upon a nick name for our mascot! Email me your suggestions or vote on the Key Club Division 42 Oregon Facebook page!

Key Leader! 3636 WOODVIEW TRACE INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46268 USA 1-800-KIWANIS FAX 1-317-879-0204

Key Leader is a wonderful weekend adventure hosted by Kiwanis International. Key Clubbers learn about the important parts of being a leader and how to intertwine leadership with service and volunteering. I went to my area’s Key Leader last October. I had fun, learned a lot, and met some pretty great Key Clubbers. I am still in contact with people I met there last year. It is a great opportunity for Club Officers and Club members. As a past attendee of Key Leader, I would truly recommend attending Key Leader. It is a great price and a wonderful opportunity. If you are interested in attending, talk to your Key Club and Kiwanis advisors about doing the 1/3 rule. This is where the club pays 1/3, Kiwanis 1/3 and the Club Member 1/3. This helps spread the cost and most clubs are willing to do this. This year’s Portland Area Key Leader will take place in Gresham, Oregon. The cost is $175 and it will take place from October 1820th.

Fundraising is important in raising funds for charities and organizations. While thinking about fundraising, the most fun images might not come into your brain. That is why it is important to put the FUN in FUNdraising. Whatever project you decide to create, make it a fun one, both to execute and to participate in. Everything will be more enjoyable and you will make more money if the fundraising is something that you are passionate about and something that you are interested in! I’ve provided some ideas for you from the keyclub.org website. Try some new ideas and have fun with your fundraising!

The Eliminate Project 7. 5.

I am excited to announce that this year’s district project is The Eliminate Project! Governor Trang Tran’s goal is to raise $24,000 or $2 for each of the 12,000 members of Key Clubbers in the PNW. Why Project Eliminate? Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every 9 minutes. Every year, 60,000 newborn babies die from MNT, or Maternal and Neonatal tetanus. Kiwanis has joined up with Unicef to completely eliminate MNT from the Earth. In order to do it, 129 million mothers need the vaccine. The mothers need a series of 3 shots to be immunized and to keep all of their future children safe. So, how much do these life saving shots cost? $1.80. That’s less than the cost of a cup of coffee or a soda! Together, we can raise small amounts of money to gather an ocean of support and make life saving changes.
