Letter from the Editor Dear Key Clubbers, Happy May! It’s around that time of year when the end of the school is in sight. I wonder if you all are as excited for summer as I am! With school over, we tend to forget about things school related, like Key Club. Key Club, however, is a year round activity that continues throughout June, July and August. Division 42 will be holding monthly DCM’s including a summertime beach clean up! I hope you are all super excited for the Portland Rally this June (check it out on page 6). It is going to be really exciting and fun. I hope to see each and every one of you there!

What has your Lieutenant Governor been up to?
I went to the Clatskanie Doernbecher Children’s Hospital 5K fundraiser at the High School. I had fun meeting ASB, the Club President, and members of Kiwanis. Please let me know when your Club is hosting a Service Project so that I can come and visit! ď Š
Spring Board! Spring Board is the first official District Board meeting of the year for the new board. I, along with other LtGs, went to Spring Board and began working on projects for the PNW District. We all had a blast and now we are even better equipped to serve you and your club!
Interested in being A Lieutenant Governor yourself? Any Key Clubber in good standing can run for the position. There is one LtG per Division. The LtG is a connection between individual schools, the division, and the district. LtG elections for Division 42 OR will be held in January 2014.

The Eliminate Project I am excited to announce that this year’s district project is The Eliminate Project! Governor Trang Tran’s goal is to raise $24,000 or $2 for each of the 12,000 members of Key Clubbers in the PNW. Why Project Eliminate? Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every 9 minutes. Every year, 60,000 newborn babies die from MNT, or Maternal and Neonatal tetanus. Kiwanis has joined up with Unicef to completely eliminate MNT from the Earth. In order to do it, 129 million mothers need the vaccine. The mothers need a series of 3 shots to be immunized and to keep all of their future children safe. So, how much do these life saving shots cost? $1.80. That’s less than the cost of a cup of coffee or a soda! Together, we can raise small amounts of money to gather an ocean of support and make life saving changes.

Key Club is very unique because it is an international High School service club, but also because it is led by student government. Being an officer is a great way to get involved in your community and meet those around you that you might not have otherwise! Colleges also love an active Key Club member. The more service hours, the better! Key Club is an amazing organization, so make sure and take the opportunity to get involved in your community. Service not only helps all of the people you care for, but also you. You will find that being a Key Club member will develop your caring, leadership, and give you lasting friendships.
