A note from
THE PRESIDENT
T
he Ascension Chamber is incredibly proud to present the first issue of our annual magazine Elevate. After a year filled with adversity, the Chamber wanted to use this inaugural issue to say thank you to our healthcare workers, first responders, teachers and other frontline workers who have worked tirelessly and selflessly to keep our community healthy and safe through the pandemic. In the magazine we also feature a few of the many chamber members who have done their part to keep our local economy up and running through one of the worst economic downturns since the Great Depression. While nothing could ever overshadow the heroism of our frontline workers, these business owners and their employees were also heroes in their own unique ways. I encourage you to read the featured pieces to learn more about these incredible businesses and their people. Our members have been resilient in adapting to the challenges of the pandemic, and just like our members, we had to adjust and find the most effective route to serve our
members in the unknown environment. For years we’ve said, “A connected business community is a healthy business community.” Bridging the digital divide has been a challenge for everyone, but we quickly realized that it was even more important for us to meet our members where they are at. Through the sharing of resources, cold calling to check on members, hosting virtual events or advocating for business recovery and relief programs, the Chamber works to assist our business community whenever, however, and wherever we can. While the pandemic will continue to impact our lives, our communities and our businesses moving forward, I know this season will soon pass. Until that day, and every day after, the Ascension Chamber will remain steadfast in our mission to facilitate and foster economic growth for our members. On behalf of our Chamber staff and Board of Directors, I want to personally thank each of our members for choosing to support the Ascension Chamber. Through our collaborative partnership, we will persevere and continue to elevate Ascension Parish.

Leadership
ASCENSION T
he Ascension Chamber of Commerce selects 35 individuals based on their applications to participate in a 10-month program called Leadership Ascension, sponsored by The Leadership Ascension Foundation. Since it’s inception in 1996, Leadership Ascension has graduated over 800 individuals and has been an innovative program with a mission to awaken the leadership potential in Ascension Parish. Each participant is required to attend sessions and complete a community service project to be eligible for graduation. These sessions provide a forum for and increase the awareness of
leaders by giving them an intense course that encompasses a wide range of community concerns. It also assists in preparing emerging community leaders for leadership positions in local government, business, and community affairs. This highly sought-after and results-oriented program begins with a teambuilding retreat and proceeds to offer monthly events that take students on a tour of the parish while educating them on topics such as economic development, healthcare, social issues, and more. The program is steered by business and community leaders who are all graduates of the program.

During the planning process, the idea was to create a new healthcare experience, one that focuses heavily on technology and a ‘no waiting room’ concept–in other words, no clipboards and forms. It was a good idea in 2019, but last year, it seemed like we had predicted the future. The idea of sitting in a crowded waiting room was the last thing patients wanted. Our patients quickly became very comfortable with the technology. With no patient waiting rooms, they can check in when they arrive through our mobile app or the onsite kiosk. The reception from the community has been great so far, and we are happy to bring multiple services, like an ER, primary care, physical therapy and imaging, closer to home for residents.
We also offer urgent care services in Ascension on Airline Hwy., in Gonzales. In summer 2022, we’ll open Ochsner Health Center–Gonzales, a 51,610 square-foot facility with 18 exam rooms on the first floor in addition to a full radiology suite (w/MRI) and a lab. The building’s second floor will be available for future expansion.

chsner began seeing patients in Prairieville in 2002 and has worked tirelessly to expand our services for nearly 20 years. Our goal has always been to keep more residents of Ascension Parish close to home for healthcare. Last year, we transformed our health center from a 10,500 square-foot facility with 18 exam rooms to over 24,250 square feet with 43 exam rooms and 7 treatment rooms. In addition to primary care and pediatrics, the health center now offers many Ochsner specialists as well as various cardiac testing, a pulmonary function lab, MRI, ultrasound and mammography services.

EDUCATION
Ascension Parish is home to a thriving and successful public school system. Currently, we have 23,400 students attending 30 schools and 3 programs. Thanks to voter support, we opened up a new primary school, Sugar Mill Primary in Fall of 2021. In addition, design work is underway on the new Prairieville High School, which we expect to open the Fall of 2023. This community supports its public schools, which is why we have been able to provide our children the resources, facilities, and programs that will benefit them in their educational journey so they can successfully pursue the postsecondary education or career of their choice. It is through the collective efforts of a historically strong school board, business partnerships, and community support that Ascension Parish has earned multiple national awards and recognition in the areas of financial reporting, communications, technology, teaching, and school and district leadership. Even while recovering from the Flood of 2016, our district is the largest in Louisiana to maintain an “A” rating in the state’s accountability system. However, we are so much more than a letter grade. Our purpose of providing high-quality daily experiences for students goes beyond academic achievement. It is nurturing the social and emotional well-being of our students; it is providing them opportunities to learn the value of service and stewardship; and it is partnering with business and industry to give them real-world work experience and credentials. Ascension Parish recently became a Work Ready Community. This nationally recognized designation by ACT was made possible through a partnership between Ascension Public Schools, the Ascension Chamber of Commerce, and the Ascension Economic Development Corporation. It drives economic growth by building common frameworks that link, align, and match education efforts with workforce needs. Traditionally, a public school system is not considered an economic engine, but a study by LSU’s Economics & Policy
Research Group found Ascension Public Schools supports 4,688 jobs, $251 million in labor income, and $421 million in economic output each year within the parish. Although we are proud to be part of the economic engine, we know that our DAVID ALEXANDER primary responsibility is to nurture and grow SUPERINTENDENT students. Our calling to serve the children of this community has never been more important, more essential than during the pandemic. I am so proud of the work of our teachers, school nurses, bus drivers, child nutrition workers, custodians, and all school and district employees who have worked tirelessly to meet the needs of our students. We were fortunate to have the technology infrastructure in place to send every student home with a device when all schools shut down last year, to facilitate both in-person and online learning when we opened this year, and to further student learning in spite of tremendous obstacles. Creating a safe environment for students to learn involved the work of so many people. While there will continue to be COVID-19 cases as long as the virus exists in the community, our schools have been praised by the governor and health officials for their work to mitigate the spread of cases. It is evident now more than ever that a robust public school system that is embraced and supported by its community yields tremendous dividends in human and economic capital. While there are certainly measurable benefits, it is the intangible benefits of ensuring every child is successful in an ever-changing world that drive our work each and every day.
We are proud and honored to be YOUR public school system!

BRAUD COMPANY
Ensuring a Safe Work Environment for All
B
raud Company was started in 1985 by Randy Braud. It was a small business located in Geismar, offering welding supplies. He realized there was a need for a more complete supply business that offered welding and industrial supplies with an emphasis on customer service. What he meant by customer service, is having delivery when you need it. He realized he could not provide this service and meet his potential by staying in the original building of 1,500 sq. ft. So, he moved to a 9,000 sq. ft. office/warehouse located on River Road in Geismar. He began building his sales and service team to make his dream a reality. Today, Braud Company (Braud Welding & Industrial Supply) has 18 employees, new vehicles, and over 22,000 sq. ft. of office and warehouse space. They also have a walk-in store and Will Call area. Sadly, their president, Randy Braud, passed away on October 19, 2010. He is tremendously missed by all who knew and loved him. Their new president is Mrs. Ranette B. Newgard who is committed to ensuring that Braud Company continues to grow and serve the customers and community that have helped them to get to this point. Tim Braud, their General Manager, works endlessly to ensure the smooth operation of the business, safety for his employees, and satisfaction for customers and vendors. He is dedicated and a true leader who is moving them toward the future. For more information, call 225-673-3370 or visit braudwelding.com.

XS Insurance’s roots extend back to 1882, starting along the banks of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge. Today, as a subsidiary of BancorpSouth Bank, which has eclipsed $20 billion in assets and recently announced the acquisition of Cadence Bank, BXS Insurance is part of the Worldwide Broker Network and has 31 offices in eight states that serve clients across the U.S. and outside of its borders. Building its footprint gradually, BXS Insurance has grown exclusively via the acquisition of carefully chosen legacy agencies. Such was the case when Waguespack & Associates joined BXS Insurance in 2018. Because its employees have such strong ties to the communities that it serves, BXS Insurance invests considerably in the towns, cities, and states it is a part of through community service and financial education. Every year, BXS Insurance team members volunteer their time to various charitable causes, community events, and also ensure their fellow employees and others are taken care of in times of crisis. Such was the case in August 2016 during the Louisiana floods, and last year, when Hurricanes Laura and Delta greatly affected Southwest Louisiana. Partnering with leading businesses and its bank counterparts, BXS Insurance works to help provide the tools and resources necessary to encourage organizations and individuals to obtain proper insurance coverage, regardless of their needs, and promotes good financial habits. The pairing of the bank and BXS Insurance, the nation’s fourth-largest bank-owned broker in the U.S., assists organizations of all sizes in obtaining what they need to start, run, and succeed in whatever their chosen endeavor may be to positively impact local economies. Our commitment to Ascension Parish has always meant serving both sides of the Mississippi River with technology solutions for residential and business customers. In addition, our investments include facilities in Gonzales and Prairieville, and employees who both live and work in Ascension. Staying connected has become more important than ever during a global pandemic and economic uncertainty. “It’s no secret 2020 taught us so much for its challenges,” says Leigh King, Vice President of Cox Business Louisiana. “One of the year’s most important lessons was the robust role technology plays in our daily life.” As a result, we’re working every day to strengthen our fiber optic infrastructure and empower technology solutions that are accessible to everyone–especially as the internet becomes increasingly essential in connecting to school and work. In April of 2021, Cox announced that we will permanently increase the speeds of our discounted internet program, Connect2Compete, to 50 Mbps from 25 Mbps. We also announced our participation in the federal government’s Emergency Broadband Benefit program. The FCC program, which is open to eligible Americans for only a limited time, is 28

available to provide temporary financial assistance for internet service. Eligible families may qualify to receive up to $50 off their monthly bill based on their current internet service and equipment rental, or up to $75 if they live in a tribal area, for as long as government funds remain available. “Although many restrictions are being lifted and people are heading back to schools and workplaces, we want to make sure regardless of circumstance, our customers can have the internet bandwidth they need to be successful,” King says. Meanwhile, Cox commercial customers enjoy superfast speeds of up to 100 gigabits, as well as access to robust, scalable solutions that keep businesses competitive. Business products such as Cox Business Cloud Solutions allow commercial customers to store all data securely in the Cloud and work remotely with all the same conveniences of being in the office. King calls the product transformational in the COVID environment because it allows customers to store information securely while accessing it from anywhere. For a business with a remote workforce, this means easy access to data and information that once could only be accessed at the office. “We know technology will continue to evolve–but our desire to connect with each other will not,” King says. “That is why we are always proud to call Ascension Parish home and pledge to work together to reimagine the possibilities and emerge stronger than ever from our challenges.” For more information, call 225-237-5141.

Making Small Businesses Successful
D
uring the outbreak of COVID-19, we all faced many uncertainties and challenges. Many of us did not know when we would return to work, business almost screeched to a halt, and the economy took a major dip. With money barely coming in and going out, being able to continue paying those who were working became complicated. With the help of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), small businesses were able to apply for low-interest private loans which provided them with funds to pay up to eight weeks of payroll costs, including benefits. Faulk & Winkler, LLC, was at the forefront of providing assistance to all of their clients during this difficult time. They helped clients understand the entire process of the PPP and hosted webinars to ensure small businesses had the resources they needed to continue to thrive. One of many clients who credit Faulk & Winkler, LLC for helping them through 2020 includes Mike Lee of EMCO. “After several weeks of uncomfortable confusion and inactivity by our primary bank, Faulk & Winkler guided EMCO to place its PPP loan application with a non-bank finance intermediary that, in turn, quickly secured funding of our PPP loan through a local community bank. Faulk & Winkler, LLC has been dedicated to impacting the
wellbeing of those they serve since 1984. For five consecutive years, including 2020, the accounting firm has won the Baton Rouge Business Report’s Best Places to Work and is the third largest accounting firm ranked by a number of Certified Public Accountants in the Capital City. Their 50 team members strive to deliver superior service and value, while maintaining close relationships with both their clients and fellow team members. They provide a wide range of accounting services, including nontraditional services such as outsourced CFO and accounting services as well as retirement plan administration and planning. Their services also include technology utilization that promotes efficient and effective solutions to their clients. Faulk & Winkler, LLC seeks out opportunities for business owners to enhance their ability to be successful in an everchanging world. For more information, call 225-927-6811 or visit fw-cpa.com. DOMAIN ARCHITECTURE Building a Better Community
I
n 2003, principals Michael Buturla and Joey Wild founded Domain Design Architecture with only two desks, a coke machine, and a dream. Focused on client service and satisfaction, the two began to build the relationships that would make up the foundation of Domain Architecture as it stands today. A key maneuver was the merger with Noland and Wong Architects in 2013, and most recently, the promotion of Brandon Burr into the fourth partner. Now with a staff of 18, including 8 licensed professionals, the team at Domain continues to reflect back to the original mantra established by the founding partners: SERVICE. Domain is “fueled by personal client relationships and community interaction.” While their designs may win awards along the journey, the priority is exceptional service. They have an inclusive office where the entire staff plays hard but works even harder for and with their clients. What sets Domain apart from other architecture and interior design firms is the true family atmosphere that extends beyond the walls of the firm. The bonds they form with their clients last well longer than the time it takes to do the job; oftentimes, the staff and clients become friends, reengaging within the community, whether at the ballpark, church, or the local grocery store.

Deeply rooted in Ascension Parish, Domain has prioritized its community and established many connections both inside and outside of the work they perform–this team is committed to serving others. They encourage all employees to do the same, participating in outreach programs that touch their heart. Currently, their employees are involved in organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Ascension Fun, and Baton Rouge Green, to name just a few. It was because of these relationships that during the flood of 2016, Domain was the first firm approached to participate in the plan to reopen schools as soon as possible through the creation of temporary campuses. Without hesitation, the staff rolled up their sleeves, jumped in, and did it in a matter of months. Domain Architecture has a broad spectrum of projects within their portfolio, including Kidz Kove Discovery Park, Bluff Ridge Primary School, and Lamar Advertising Headquarters. Their passion truly radiates when discussing projects that impact the community–fire stations, educational facilities, and recreational centers. “These projects offer opportunities to affect daily life, not only today but well into the future,” says President Michael Buturla. “If we can shave seconds off a firefighter’s response
time or create an environment that captures a child’s love of learning, then we have bettered our community. That’s truly the measurement of success.”

LOUISIANA FEDERAL CREDIT UNION Focusing on the “Why”
L
ouisiana Federal Credit Union is focused on one thing– helping people. In fact, the credit union is driven by this one basic statement. According to Rhonda Hotard, the President and CEO of the Louisiana Federal Credit Union, “We threw out vision and mission statements and now focus on our ‘why,’ which is to help people, so they can focus on life first.” By recognizing that their most valuable resources are their people, the ‘why’ of Louisiana FCU is evident in how they handle their business, and also in how they connect with their community. There is a distinct feeling of belonging at each of the branches, including knowing members individually and taking the time to build relationships. These relationships have extended outside the branch while also supporting those in need. Amid a pandemic, the Louisiana FCU team was out helping people in the community by providing encouragement for healthcare workers, school supplies for students, donations and service at multiple food banks, and much more across their regional area. Recognizing the impact the pandemic had financially on nonprofit organizations in the community, Louisiana FCU made sure to support nonprofits like the American Cancer Society and the Ascension Chamber of Commerce. Louisiana FCU’s Sweet Soiree Live Auction raised over $7,000 for the American Cancer Society, and they also raised over $11,000 for the Relay for Life of St. James Parish. Helping people isn’t a new initiative for Louisiana FCU. During the early 1930s, the country was just beginning to come out of the Great Depression and people were looking for financial resources as many were turned away from traditional financial institutions. The Norco Shell Refinery began offering financial services to the employees by

starting their own credit union on site. That’s how Louisiana FCU got its start back in 1935. They were the 174th credit union to start in the U.S., continuing the overarching mission of credit unions, which is to help people. Today, Louisiana FCU offers a complete suite of financial products for both individual and business members. “We offer the same products or services as traditional banks, including mortgages, vacant land loans, auto loans, credit cards, and lines of credit,” says Hotard. The credit union also offers club accounts, Christmas clubs, and a variety of digital platforms for members. In fact, according to Hotard, Louisiana FCU has been ahead of the game with stand-out technology platforms, offering online access to banking services without ever having to come into a branch. While their efforts have earned them Top Work Place honors for five years and several state and national marketing awards, Louisiana FCU looks ahead with a continued focus on its members by expanding digital growth and keeping up with trends for easy access of services. “We want to always stay in line with current expectations of customers,” says Hotard. While expansion and membership growth are a priority, the goal will always be to listen to members and ensure that their needs are being met. In other words, helping members so they can focus on life first. There are currently five branch locations across Louisiana, including in the River Parishes and Hammond. In addition, through their shared branching partnership with credit unions across the country, a member can bank at over 5,600 nationwide shared branch locations. ith close to 80 years of combined experience, Pujol, Pryor & Irwin The Litigation Firm proudly provides diverse litigation services while also supporting Ascension Parish and the surrounding areas in many ways. Pujol, Pryor & Irwin is an AV rated firm with MartindaleHubbell which is the highest rating given to a law firm by its peers on the merit of competency and ethics. The firm represents clients, both commercial and individual, including business advice and litigation, successions and succession litigation, insurance defense, criminal defense, and personal injury litigation. The firm, started in 2003 with Matthew Pryor and Tim Pujol, grew in 2012 with the addition of Barbara Irwin, and now has five attorneys total after the latest addition of two associate attorneys. “We take pride in bringing our expertise on complex matters for the parish businesses and residents,” says Pryor. During the pandemic, Pujol, Pryor & Irwin was able to quickly pivot in order to continue serving those in need. “Having already had the ability to work from home in place through our cloudbased system, PP&I was able to transition and maintain our services to our clients through the COVID-19 pandemic. While this form of providing legal services remotely to clients was certainly a transition, we are very proud of the resilience our attorneys and staff showed over this past year. Now that the Courts are reopening and the work continues, we are more committed than ever to protecting and fighting for our clients, whether it be in person or by remote participation,” says Barbara Irwin, The Litigation Firm partner.
While all three partner attorneys practice in Ascension Parish, their work in the parish goes beyond litigation. “We are all very active in supporting Ascension Parish and enjoy serving on various volunteer leadership and advisory boards within the parish such as Rotary Club, the Ascension Chamber, and Ascension Parish Schools,” says Pryor. Both Pryor and Pujol served as Rotary Club Board President and Pryor and Irwin are both Past Chairmen of the Ascension Chamber. Pujol has been an elected member from the 23rd JDC to the LSBA House of Delegates and has served on the liaison committee for the State bar’s Board of Governors. He is also a past President of the 23rd JDC Bar Association. When looking to the future for Pujol, Pryor & Irwin, the overall focus remains

BASF’s Commitment to Community BASF has been creating chemistry in Ascension Parish for more than 60 years. In that time, BASF has become a key partner to the parish through our commitment to safety and sustainability, community outreach to bolster the local workforce and strengthen educational opportunities, and continued growth and investment at our Geismar sites. BASF is the largest private employer in Ascension Parish with approximately 1,800 full time and contract employees. We invest more than $300 million annually in the parish and state through payroll, purchases, taxes and charitable contributions. BASF’s commitment to Ascension Parish goes beyond financial investments and includes the safety and well-being of the community. Each year, employees participate in thousands of hours of training on industry best practices to keep the Geismar sites operating in a reliable and secure manner. 36

Commitment to Safety and Sustainability At BASF, we are committed to protecting our employees, our community and the environment. We strive to be best in class and place safety above all else. BASF employees receive extensive training and participate in robust safety programs. While working closely with local and federal agencies, BASF continues to maintain and exceed industry standards for environmental, health and safety performance. Over the last decade, BASF grew considerably in both number of employees and operations, while significantly improving performance, with a 70 percent reduction in employee injuries, a 75 percent reduction in spills and a 60 percent reduction in emissions to air and water. Using state-of-the-art technology to improve emissions, reduce exposure and limit waste, BASF is living its core value of creating chemistry for a sustainable future. We will continue to look for opportunities through control systems, waste management programs and innovative energy sources to improve sustainability throughout the value chain.
Commitment to Growth and Investment Since 2009, BASF has invested more than $1 billion in new projects at the Geismar site, including the first phase of a new methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) synthesis unit, which was completed in late 2020. Construction of a second phase is ongoing, and startup is expected for the second half of 2021. The final phase, which is expected to bring the capacity to approximately 600,000 metric tons per year, should start-up around the middle of the decade. At only 25 percent capacity, there is significant opportunity for growth and expansion at the Geismar site
that is why our commitment to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education as part of our workforce development is crucial. BASF offers job shadowing opportunities for high school students to learn more from employees about what certain jobs entail. BASF’s career fairs connect middle, high school, technical college and university students with professionals working in STEM careers to help them envision career possibilities. BASF’s summer internship program hosts 20+ collegiate engineering students each summer who participate in site projects and development opportunities. Each fall, BASF hosts process technology internships to build its pipeline of top talent from within the local community and to provide students with insight into careers in manufacturing. Through a long-standing partnership, BASF donated more than $1 million to River Parishes Community College in donations and equipment for a new Advanced Technology Center and a physical equipment training facility aimed at providing handson experience to students and bolstering the local talent pipeline.
Commitment to Community At BASF, we are committed to serving Ascension Parish. BASF supports more than 50 organizations and nonprofits in the area and strives to support our friends and neighbors through a wide variety of programming aimed at supporting community needs, increasing students’ exposure to careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and growing our local workforce. Kids Lab provides every fourthgrade student in Ascension Parish with the opportunity to experience hands-on science experiments and learn about chemistry at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum. Since BASF’s partnership with LASM began in 2011, nearly 20,000 students, teachers and chaperones have participated in Kids Lab. In 2021, the program is going virtual to offer students the ability to participate in a safe and distanced educational field trip. Scholarships are awarded to Ascension Parish students each year to support their pursuit of collegiate and technical college education. BASF’s BackPack Program provides more than 3,000 backpacks of food for weekends and holidays to hungry students in Ascension Parish elementary schools each year through its partnership with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. In 2020, BASF doubled its donation in support of the COVID-19 response to $50,000. Tech Academy provides high school juniors and seniors a week-
long hands-on experiential program to help them learn more about technical and craft careers. The Pathways to Prosperity Externship Program, hosted by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, allows teachers and administrators to learn about the manufacturing industry and bring valuable career opportunity information back to students. BASF is the largest sponsor of this program. BASF’s support for higher education in the state includes annual donations and support to area colleges and universities. BASF supports partner organizations, including the Capital Area United Way. In 2020, BASF donated $355,000 CAUW to support a variety of programs, including those that assist military veterans and promote leadership initiatives tailored to women. BASF also provided $115,000 to flood relief efforts in 2016, along with donations to other community organizations including Junior Achievement and ARC of East Ascension. At BASF, we contribute to a world that provides a viable future with enhanced quality of life for everyone. We are proud to be a part of the Ascension Parish community and honored to work alongside our friends and neighbors to create chemistry for a sustainable future. ■ ELEVATE 2021

Situated between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, the facility’s 1,000 industrial acres is located within Geismar in Ascension Parish and St. Gabriel in Iberville Parish. It shares a complex with Honeywell, Nova Chemicals, and Innophos. In 1967, Allied Chemical constructed the site which included Ethylene, Hydrofluoric Acid, Phosphoric Acid, and Nitrogen. The company had been purchased by investor groups, including E.F. Hutton and senior Arcadian management personnel in 1984, and it became Arcadian Corporation, which was acquired by PCS Nitrogen Fertilizer, L.P. in 1997. The business eventually became Nutrien in 2018 as a result of the merger of equals between Potash Corp and Agrium. In 1967, the facility could produce 900 metric tons per day (MTPD), which expanded to 1,400 MTPD as the company advanced. The site is supplied with two natural gas pipelines and two small ammonia pipelines (BASF, Syngenta and Eastman), and it is connected to the Denbury CO2 line. It also has a nitric acid pipeline to BASF and Huntsman with typical annual sales of 775,000 mtpy. Whether it be by railroad, barges and vessels, trucks, or pipelines, Nutrien ensures efficient logistics of their nitric acid and ammonia production to neighboring plants. Much of their workforce, including the 150 contract workers and 175 full-time employees, have been in the company for several decades, including the one-third of the team that has served for over 25 years. This loyalty plays a huge role in the company’s family-oriented atmosphere in true Southern Louisiana style. Their focus extends beyond the limits of the Nutrien community, however, as they have participated in local
cook offs and crawfish boils hosted by the Safety Team. Additionally, the company has donated to several groups around the area such as Future Farmers of America, food banks, and the Louisiana Professional Fire Fighters Association. More recently, the Geismar Nutrien location has been involved in COVID-19 relief efforts as an essential service through the pandemic. They have produced fertilizer for farmers and donated to food banks to support food shortages and distribution in 2020. They are also committed to a three-year contribution to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to support the Backpack food program for East Iberville Schools. This makes Nutrien more than just a chemical plant; it is a family contributing to its community. From the banks of the Mississippi River to the greater community of Baton Rouge, Nutrien at Geismar has strived to make a positive impact and provide hospitality, especially in uncertain times.

SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns; to preserve free competitive enterprise; and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation. They recognize that small business is critical to our economic recovery and strength, to building America’s future, and to helping the U.S. compete in today’s global marketplace. Although SBA has grown and evolved in the years since it was established in 1953, the bottom line mission remains the same. The SBA helps Americans start, build and grow businesses. Through an extensive network of field offices and partnerships with public and private organizations, SBA delivers its services to people throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
