professional profile

I am an Industrial Designer who puts a strong sense of theoretical and conceptual content into his projects. My design process involves flexible methodologies coming from the Industrial Design and Service Design fields. The user experience is the foundation over which I build my design proposals. At the same time, functional, technological and materials investigation has been a constant in the development of all my product design projects. My communication skills stand because of my ability to transfer concepts, as well as the efficient manipulation of wide range of software tools. In terms of collaborative work, I most often become group-leader given my personality and intensive work level. I had experiences working in academic and professional environments with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams (engineers, architects, and different design backgrounds from different countries). I am in a constant process of specialization and updating. From software to manufacturing techniques, from design trends to sociological phenomena or art, everything come together into my mental processes, and therefore, into my projects.

01. HIDRA CONCEP T organic street repair industrial design III - faud unc collaborative project - 2012

This vehicle is the result of a conceptual and experimental project that aimed to find new alternatives for the problem of country-roads maintenance. We developed a method that involves non-Newtonian fluids to improve the transit of the roads. From an environmental perspective, this method is extremely sustainable, given that it solves efficiently a real problem with totally environment-assimilable materials. This principle has been applied into different product scales for different purposes.

JOURNEY MAP (reinterpretation)

FUTURE

I used a temporal matrix to understand the timing of an accident as well as its causes and consequences in different levels. This allowed me to understand different moment of intervention for a design solution.

Third cause of mortality projected to 2020 Enormous amount of money spent by the state to take care of

industrial design

INTERVENTION FIELDS After the first research and reframing stage I arrived to three different fields of design implication:

Traffic system Vehicles Attention services

Research showed that the lack of maintenance of

roads

and its

general condition was one of the key factors of accidents.

HOW TO IMPROVE THE TRANSITABILITY OF THE ROADS CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT The strategy was to generate concepts from different time scenarios, from 2020 till 2050, ranging from organic street repair, road printing and growing structures injection.

industrial design

CONCEPT

CONCEPT VERIFICATION We made a series of test at different scales in order to define the functionality of the concept and to experiment with different proportions for the preparation of the fluid.

An innovative method that uses non-Newtonian fluids to improve the transitability of roads. We discover that this kind of fluid behaves like a solid when a sudden force is applied on its surface. From this observation, we developed a method of covering holes in the roads as a temporary solution. This is a completely organic compound that will eventually be assimilated by the environment.

OR G A N I C S TR EET REPA I R

A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid with properties that differ in any way from those of Newtonian fluids. Most commonly, the viscosity (the measure of a fluid's ability to resist gradual deformation by shear or tensile stresses) of non-Newtonian fluids is dependent on shear rate or shear rate history.

industrial design

HIDRA CONCEPT This vehicle can transport greats amounts of fluid to everywhere it is needed. It is composed by a front open cabin and a volumetric back compartment. Inside this compartment, mechanisms maintain the fluid moving to avoid sedimentation. The application is completed with a bio-degradable textile that acts as a container of the liquid.

industrial design

APPLICATION METHOD

The application process consists of four stages which involve positioning, isolation, filling and covering. All these actions are carried out by a human operator, also in charge of driving the vehicle.

VOLVO IMAGE The image of VOLVO has been used to give identity to the project. This brand has a strong presence in the heavy-machinery segment. Volvo also has a series of design parameters that we tried to incorporate to the project: innovative concepts for new products and sustainability of the processes.

02. EVA aquatic training and rehabilitation industrial design IV - faud unc collaborative project - 2013/2014

Developed during the Final Industrial Design Project, this work is based on the theme of aquatic training and rehabilitation equipment under the premise of taking advantage of the psychical properties of the water. Previously, these kinds of objects were copies of traditional gym training. evä proposes a reinterpretation of the functional principles of these objects to maximize the effectiveness and improving the experience of aquatic training.

To take advantage of the physical properties of the aquatic environment, a new multi-layer material was developed. This material combines rigid and flexible materials to confront the different forces that act in water. The intensity of the training is achieved with resistance surfaces. The continuous shape and the combination of material maximize the strength of the training. The user can manage this intensity according to the speed of the movements.

03. U+ coffee table + working station Formabilio Contest - Digital Wood collaborative project - june 2015

The main idea was to propose an object that improves the experience of using technological devices during charging, and working. U+ is a multifunctional piece of furniture which can work either as a console, ottoman, coffee table, magazines rack, or even as a work station. This line is presented in two heights to adapt to different users and functions.

CONCEPT Each object is composed by two elements. On one side, there is a tubular steel structure linked with steel sticks. The sticks determine planes and also can function as magazine racks. On the other side, there is a wooden piece. It has a very essential form with certain detail such as grooves (for cable management) and a bas-relief (for accessory objects during the workstation use).

04. MARKET LIST concept + UX / UI design freelance project june 2015

Market List is an app that allows users to quickly organize the things they need to buy in their next grocery shopping. Whenever the user discovers a missing product, he or she taps on the icon that represents the article. The lists can include reminders, alarms, directions and notes.

service design & ux deisgn

CONCEPT Making lists seems to be an unsolved issue. There is still not a definitive assistant for this tedious activity. Market Lists makes the process of creating grocery lists friendlier, by allowing you to choose from existing items instead of typing each article. You can also create or personalized your own icons.

05. TENSES concept + UX / UI design freelance project june 2015

If you don´t study another language, you miss a big part of the world. To learn a new language has become an essential need in a world with fewer frontiers every day. There are no doubts; some of the most difficult contents when you try to learn a new language are the different verbs tenses. In some languages, more tenses are more used than in others. Irregular verbs may become a headache for students.

service design & ux deisgn

CONCEPT TENSES was borne thanks to a personal need. While studying a new language, the access to the information about verbs tenses is not always easy and in many occasions, it is not complete. The idea was to provide the user with the full information about verbs in their different time forms in an accessible format.

RESEARCH The research efforts were focused in finding the right information for different languages, understanding how educational services work and creating a flow that improves user experience.

06. MEGABUS Service re-design + UX / UI design Network & Services. PSSD. Politecnico di MIlano collaborative project - April 2016

We conducted an EFFICIENCY DRIVEN re-design process, trying to achieve the maximum results from the minimum resources. This premise is actually in line with what megabus do. In this way, we kept the essence of a very low cost service, improving the experience of the users through very precise and even small changes

RESEARCH The research process was conducted using different strategies. On-the-spot observations were used to understand boarding process, while user recording let us identify the interactions with the web site. Interviews with different stakeholders of the service gave us lots of insights about perceived service value and implementation procedures.

PROBLEMATIC AREAS The research results made us consider to focus on booking and boarding as the two main areas of action. We also found a moment in between that is not covered. We approached this situation with another touchpoint that we called “reminder”.

USER JOURNEY MAP RE-DESIGN

service design & ux deisgn

WEB APP We decide to redesign completely their main virtual touchpoint by transforming it into a Responsive platform. It could be able to run on desktop as well as mobile devices providing an accessible experience to users. The use of new graphic styles aims to achieve trustworthy of the service, a problem that emerged from the research process The redesign process was focused on evidencing the main values of the service: EFFICEINCY AND CONVINIENCE

PDF TICKET We moved from the current HTML information platform to what we call a RESPONSIVE PDF. With this ticket we are making more efficient the moment of boarding the bus. The driver, who is in charge of controlling passenger information, will be able to extract the essential data (in this case, the code and numbers that we highlighted) This ticket is not only visually clear compared to the original one, but also displays the right information according each user need.

REMINDER & DRIVERS’ LIST We introduced this new touchpoint to solve the disconnection between the purchase and the boarding moment. In this way, passengers will be reminded about specific data of their trip as well as informed about the location of the bus stop by using hyperlinks to a Maps platform. The Drivers’ Check-in List is an improvement behind the line of visibility for the user. Current boarding system relies on a piece of paper printed by the driver a few hours before departure, but in this way, people who buy the tickets before that won’t appear on the list.
