Five Things Insurance Adjustors Need to Know About Indoor Contamination Claims Please join the Central Coast Claims Association in welcoming our November 21, 2013 luncheon meeting guest speaker, John Riera, of American Air Testing John R Riera, CIE, CMRS, CMC, CAC, LAI, is the owner of American Air Testing, A family owned business.

A native San Franciscan, Mr. Riera started the business 12 years ago in San Francisco. His firm now has performed more than 6,500 documented indoor air quality inspections throughout the Bay Area.

Mr. Riera serves as an Expert Witness, with experience in multiple cases related to indoor air quality and water leak detection - using infrared technology. He is State Licensed both as a CAC and LAI investigations, and holds national certifications covering biological and chemical contamination investigations.

John’s interest in the environmental field started when working on the Alaska Pipeline Project during the 1970s. He also did environmental testing in New Orleans two weeks after the Katrina Hurricane.

According the EPA, Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems in homes. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels by not bringing in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources and by not carrying indoor air pollutants out of the home. High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants.

Mold, mildew, and other contributors also present major concerns over air quality, and control.
