The program’s purpose is to reinvest in the supply of rural family medicine physicians by supporting residents during their three-year LMEP residency with the commitment to practice in one of our 22 rural practice opportunities. Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center is a community Critical Access Hospital in Beatrice, Nebraska, located about 30 miles south of the state’s capital, Lincoln, Nebraska. BCH is the largest CAH in Southeast Nebraska and Northeast Kansas and has become a hub for healthcare services outside of the Lincoln metropolitan area. A new hospital was built on the northern edge of the community in 2012, and a new primary care provider clinic was opened in 2023. The Boone County Health Center, located in Albion, Nebraska is a recognized leader in providing a continuum of healthcare to the 12,000 rural residents in Boone, Antelope, Greeley, western Madison, Nance, western Platte and Wheeler counties in north central Nebraska for over seventy years. The Health Center and medical clinics are the singular and primary source of healthcare for the rural communities it serves. The hospital offers 25 all private, spacious suites, five nursery layettes and two family-oriented obstetrical suites. The Health Center is the hub for five medical clinics in the towns of Albion, Spalding, Newman Grove, Fullerton, and Elgin. Eight Family Practice physicians, six physician-assistants, and three nurse practitioners staff the Health Center and satellite medical clinics. With remodeling projects completed in 2005, 2010 and 2017, Brodstone is a beautiful facility with numerous ancillary services available. Brodstone is currently undergoing a 41,000 square foot expansion to the facility with a new Emergency Department, Patient Wing, OB Wing, Infusion Center and room for growth. The project is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2023 and will see patients in the new space in October of 2023. There are currently nine providers and a reputation of a great place for students to learn about healthcare in a rural setting. David City is a short driving distance away from Lincoln, Omaha and Columbus. Butler County has a population of 8,400, with David City having approximately 3,000 residents. Butler County is primarily an agriculture area. It is also rich in industry with businesses such as Timpte Industries and AKRS Equipment Solutions, Inc. Health care is prominent in David City with Butler County Health, two independent family practice physician clinics, a pharmacy, a dental office, an optometrist, two nursing homes and an assisted living facility. Benkelman, NE The City of Benkelman, the largest Community in Dundy County, is located in southwest Nebraska, approximately 50 miles west of McCook, Nebraska. The city is served by U.S. Highway 34, and State Highway 61, which bypass the Community to the north and west. Benkelman is the County-Seat of Dundy County, with an estimated 2022 population of 815. Downtown Benkelman is in the south-central portion of the Community, along Chief Street between West 8th Avenue and Railroad Street. The Downtown consists of professional offices, specialty retail stores, banks, restaurants, the Dundy County Library, Post Office and various other public facilities. The City Offices are located at the intersection of East 7th and “A” Street, just east of the Downtown core. The Community of Benkelman offers a variety of amenities including public schools, restaurants, governmental services, grocery and convenience stores, senior center, hospital, etc. Most of the major employers in Benkelman are scattered throughout the Community and are traditional in nature when compared to other rural Nebraska communities. Major employers include Dundy County-Stratton Public Schools, the Dundy County Courthouse, Dundy County Hospital and Gavilon Grain, LLC. According to the U.S. Census Center for Economic Studies, in 2019, an estimated 431 persons were employed in the City of Benkelman. This accounts for an estimated 76.8 percent of all persons employed in Dundy County, which recorded 561 employed persons in 2019.
Dundy County Hospital Dundy County Hospital is located in Benkelman, Nebraska and was built in 1968. The Hospital serves the southwestern corner of Nebraska, northeastern corner of Colorado, and portions of Kansas. Dundy County Hospital was initially constructed to accommodate 30 acute and swing beds. Osmond General Hospital Osmond General Hospital (OGH) is a 20-bed critical access hospital which serves the residents of Northeast Nebraska with medical clinics in Randolph and Wausa. OGH currently employs a part-time DO and three NPs. The
