Meeting point of the sector

Following Murat Göçe, the President of Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), Ömer Fatih Sayan took the floor. Emphasizing that this summit is of great importance for the sector and that it brings together all the actors of the sector, Sayan shared the following details: “When we say ‘informatics’, the internet comes to mind first, today the internet is seen as an important part of economic and social life as well as production. The Internet environment itself is the reality of life and people, ideas, objects and processes come together for Industry 4.0. The brain power of man and the power of production are obvious. In this respect, it will be a very different period than previous economic processes.” Mr. Sayan pointed out that there is also awareness in this matter, noting that significant progress has been made in this way in Turkey and that information and communication technologies are obviously dominant in the industry. Sayan continued as: “This matter belongs to our country with all the processes. We all know the ‘keeping it national’ requirements in the 4.5G tender. E-commerce is also growing; we are paying attention to the safety of internet users, especially children. All actors need to work together on this issue. We also need digital literate youth in every field. We are committed to working to bring informatics to the level it

deserves to be.” Fatih Sayan emphasized that Turkey has realized many breakthroughs in the information and communication sector in the last 15 years and that we have the world’s most advanced technology. Sayan also drew attention to the following details: “The awareness is created on how important infrastructure is for the information and communication technologies. While our operators are now developing their infrastructure, it is our priority to jointly use the infrastructure and to keep the existing infrastructure untouched and to prevent unnecessary investments. With the whole process of design, production, distribution, maintenance and repair, aftersales operations, and resource efficiency; this whole industry became an important matter for our country. In particular, we all know the nationality regulations regarding the last 4.5G tender. It reached 93.6 billion TL. In this process, we constantly mention the importance of the internet and pay attention to the safety of our children on the internet. I would like to point out that all actors must work together to prevent any illegal action, including terrorist abuse of the Internet. In this process, we need young people with digital literacy that can analyze the information in their field and produce new information; while programs for the education of youth are going on.”

Road map for Industry 4.0 Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Dr. Faruk Özlü started his words by sharing the priorities of Turkey with the participants and informed everyone on that they are working on three main topics: to make Turkey a science center, technology base and advanced industrial country. Minister Özlü said that they carried out their works along with these three axes and completed the global preparations for the development of the industry. Minister Özlü commented that: “We have completed our preparatory work on the development of the modernization of the industry, which is called ‘Industrial Revolution 4.0’ in the

West and ‘Super Community 5.0’ in Japan. We created a platform with the participation of TOBB, MUSIAD, TUSIAD, YASAD, TIM and TTBK. 4. We have worked to realize the activities of the 4th

Industrial Revolution or Super Community 5.0. We will sign it soon. Together with these institutions, we will carry out the activities of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in Turkey.”

Common values of the IT sector in Turkey The opening speech of the Information Summit’16 was made by Murat Göçe, the President of BTHaber Corporate Group. He emphasized that they wanted to share the philosophy of ‘no escape from Industry 4.0’ with the organizing the most comprehensive meeting of recent years. Murat Göçe, who also stated that they deliberately use the word ‘evolution’ in this definition, continued his speech: “Evolution is a process. As the fourth wave of digitalization, Industry 4.0 is setting up the grounds for the fourth wave of digital economy by bringing in new design, planning, R&D, production, procurement, quality, process management, autonomous systems, service and customer

experiences based on artificial intelligence. This is what we call digital thinking methodology. This summit had 17 different thematic conferences, a total of 150 panels, interviews and presentations, over 240 speakers and participants to talk about the future. I give thanks to teams and managers of BTHaber who provided biggest support to our event,

those who support the content programs, and those who gave special support to the digital design works and to all the employees. We are a huge family of a hundred employees, thanks to you. My message to the sector is clear: Informatics Summit and ICT 500 Research are the common values of the industry and we should always provide full support to them.”

IT sector will lead the future Transportation, Maritime and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan, who made a speech during the opening ceremony of the Information Summit’16, said that: “The size of our industry is an element that everyone looks at with envy.” Ahmet Arslan said that they know very well the necessity of taking further steps and underlined that they have done important work since 2003. “With the global vision for 2023, we expect the numbers of 5G and 4.5G subscribers to rise.” said Ahmet Arslan and continued his

speech: “The future of the industry reveals that we should not be content with what we have now but we need to take further steps. The number of enterprises increased to 622, the number of authorizations in the sector increased to 1009, and the internet output capacity increased 300 times to 6,000 GB. We expect that the number of 5G subscribers related to the global forecast for 2023 will increase to 550 million, and the number of 4.5G subscribers will increase to 4.6 million. We know that

56% of mobile phones used in the world are smartphones, and 80% of the phones sold are smart phones. We expect that the number of smartphone users in the world will reach about 4 billion and in 2023, it will reach 7 billion, especially in the next 7 years period, especially while the data traffic will be increasing 10 times together with smartphones in the world. The second place belongs to the social sharing sites where the figures are not really mindblowing. We had instructions on fiber infrastructure, dear

prime minister. So far, we increased our existing 88 thousand kilometers of infrastructure to 278 thousand kilometers. I especially would like to share your instructions on using it more economically, not making any new but in vain investments, following every action with care and directing users to the existing infrastructure. Since 2003, we know that in this sector we should move along with the world in this sector and in some areas, we are ahead. You have always revealed that access and transportation is a

must for all sectors for growth. Yesterday you did not leave us alone, especially with your ideas on the works to be done in this sector, informatics sector being in every part of life and no economic growth without informatics. This sector is a sector to change the world, the future of our country and the prosperity of our people. This sector is a very fast-growing sector. As all stakeholders, we have a success today, but we need to carry it to tomorrow by adding up to it. We need to follow the world with all our friends and grow this sector.”
