Instructor: Mark La Rosa

$100

In this 90-minute private photography session, students work one-on-one with a BCA professional to photograph two-dimensional or three-dimensional artworks. BCA staff professionally light and photograph the work. Students receive one high-res TIFF and one JPEG of each image. During the photo session, students are responsible for handling artwork. BCA staff will apply basic color correction, density, and contrast adjustments to each image in BCA’s Digital Lab. Students may bring up to 10 total pieces that fall within these size limits: 2-D flat artwork no larger than 40x60"; 3-D sculptural pieces no larger than 24x24". BCA provides a digital camera during the session and a flash drive of final images for students to keep.

Intro To Creative Suite

Sunday, November 5, 10 am-4 pm

Instructor: Kat Hartley

$120

Prerequisite: Students should have basic Mac computer skills.

Come dip your toes into Creative Suite’s big three programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. In this beginner workshop, local graphic designer Kat Hartley leads you through a simple project that introduces the exciting features of each program. Starting with removing backgrounds and editing photos in Photoshop, students learn to work with vector shapes in Illustrator and finish the day in InDesign, combining their creations with text in digital booklets. This hands-on class gives you a basic orientation to these core programs. BCA will provide each student with a Mac to work on during the class. Please bring a bag lunch.

Developing An Artist Statement

Monday, October 23, 6-8 pm

Instructor: Jessica Manley

$75

What exactly is an artist statement and how is it different from a bio? Is a CV the same as a résumé? Join Jessica Manley, editor and curator, for professional guidance and feedback on your writing. Artists from all disciplines and at all levels are welcome. Participants will need to send in their current artist statement, bio, and CV a week before class to be reviewed by Jessica. Class will be spent reviewing edits together and exploring ways to improve your writing. All participants will work toward a concise, polished artist statement that communicates what you investigate, observe, and want to express with your art, so your next grant, residency, or exhibition proposal is even stronger. During the week following class, students may send their revised statements to Jessica for final comments. Pair this class with Talking with the Curator to build off of what you learn.

TALKING WITH THE CURATOR: PREPARING AN EXHIBITION PROPOSAL

Tuesday, November 7, 6-8 pm

Instructor: Heather Ferrell

$75

Join Heather Ferrell, BCA’s Curator and Director of Exhibitions, for a one-night workshop to learn best practices when creating an exhibition proposal. A week before the workshop, participants send images of 3-5 works, an artist or project statement, and a draft cover letter for their proposal to be reviewed. During the workshop, participants discuss how to present material for different galleries and museums, refine a project statement, and prepare to speak about their work with a curator. Students may send revised proposals the week following the workshop for final comments. Pair this class with Developing an Artist Statement to build on of what you learn.
