We’re marching into a new service year… February is already over and it flew by, even with the extra day. Our club is getting ready for a lot of changes, and soon we will have a (mostly) brand new executive board. February was filled with a lot of great and fun events, with a bunch of new members stepping up big time. Read all about our club’s accomplishments and more in February’s issue of the Binghamton CKInsider!

NEW MEMBER PINNING CEREMONY
The Circle K pinning by Emily Fenter
ceremony was a great experience to be involved in. Because I was in Key club in high school the new member pinning ceremony brought back memories to when I began my Kiwanis and service journey. Having been very involved in this club my first semester here at Binghamton being able to speak at the pinning and share my experiences was great! I hope that I was able to show my fellow new members and the older members that also attended how much I appreciate all them for making me and the other new members feel like apart of the Circle K family. Although we all knew we were part of Circle K we are now official members of the Kiwanis family. It was great

to hear the other speaker’s perspective on the club as well. We all felt a similar excitement about being involved in service and meeting new people but we all took our experiences in different ways. I had met many of the new members that were pinned that night prior to the ceremony however it was nice seeing more new faces. To all the more veteran members of the club: thank you for all you did to make us new members feel welcomed and excited to get involved. To all the new members: I look forward to getting to know you all even better and hopefully be able to welcome in future new members just like they did for us.

WILLOW’S POINT VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY
by Jerry Cimo
I was blessed with the adventure of volunteering at Willow Point nursing home for their Valentine’s Day celebration on February 12. Oh, what a day! After we ventured down vestal parkway en route to the rosy red love cove, the staff and the cozy aesthetic of the late 90’s style interior design warmly greeted us. Don't even get me started on the strawberry drank. Together, us Circle K volunteers poured and served about 50 cups of delicious, red nectar for the residents and passed out triple chocolate chunk warm, velvety cupcakes with soft butter cream frosting. The air was filled of the sounds of a romantic harpist, whose melodies bounced off the sunset pink balloons floating around the ballroom. It was

beautiful. If you were blessed with the opportunity of seeing a 7 second snippet of My Hear Will Go On (Titanic Theme) on the harp from my snap story, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Earlier in the gala, they nominated Valentine’s Day queens and kings, and everyone had the chance to snap a quick pic on the willow point valentine's day throne. I would rate this experience as a definite 10/10--would recommend. I'm excited to go back to Willow Point for another gnarly project, especially if there's another harp player. I'm listening to Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On as I write this article, reminiscing of the romantic aesthetic willow point had to offer.

On February 27, several Binghamton Circle K
members and I had the honor of attending the Iroquois Divisional Day of Service at Syracuse University. Led by Iroquois Division Lieutenant Governor Edward Kroll, the day of service began with an information session about being an active and successful Circle K member. We also heard some personal stories of Circle K experiences from current New York District Executive Assistant Elizabeth McGuoirk and former Long Island Division Lieutenant Governor Stephanie Iacona. It was interesting to learn about different ways to get involved in Circle K on a higher level from members of various leadership positions. After that, attendees from different clubs got to share our favorite service projects with each
5
We then participated in three service projects: making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the less fortunate, decorating bookmarks to promote reading for kids, and creating cards to thank local police officers. We then participated in some icebreakers and got to learn a little bit about all of the new people we met. One of the icebreakers was to share what you would bring if you were deserted on an island, and there were some quite interesting answers making it really fun to play. Syracuse University and Utica College Circle K members also attended. Utica College brought many members and it was great to hear that their club was recently reactivated and incorporated into the Iroquois Division. Even though Binghamton is not part of the Iroquois Division, I felt very welcome at the divisional and was really happy to meet so many new faces while learning more about Circle K and contributing to some awesome service projects!

COLD STONE FUNDRAISER
by Karandeep Singh
This month we held a
fundraiser at Cold Stone Creamery. Our club members went to Cold Stone and bought ice creams and milkshakes, and 15% of the profits went to our club. I personally got the Oreo and Creme Milkshake, which is my favorite flavor of milkshake.

Many people, including myself, went in groups. So it was also sort of a bonding experience. We had a huge turnout, raised a lot of money for our club, and got to enjoy some ice cream.

Event Spotlight Glow Golf Fundraiser by Ray Mosquea
The
glow golf fundraising event, held on Saturday February 27, brought many Circle K members and friends together to spend some time doing something fun and different. The purpose of the event was to raise money for future Circle K events such as DCON. It was my first time playing mini-golf, and I can honestly say I both enjoyed and disliked a couple of things about it. As soon as we started playing, I knew things were going to go badly for me. My form was bad and the golf ball just wasn’t going where I wanted it to go. We separated into teams and set the max number of swings to 6. Unfortunately, for the first couple of courses I was maxing out at 6 or not getting them in at all. I believe there was a total of 18 courses, so it took a while to get through all of them. In terms of difficulty, some were impossible. A couple had badly placed small ramps/hills that did not even allow the ball to stay leveled at any point near the putt. Some of the courses were also repetitive and not very creative. Personally, this made the
experience boring a few times during the night. On the other hand, some courses were fun and interesting to complete, having cool obstacles that transported the ball, or some in which you had to time your movements perfectly to get the ball through a hole. One thing that made the night more interesting was the fact that almost everything was glowing. You could even put you golf ball in a small light chamber to make it glow brighter! In the end, although I had a rough start in terms of skill, by last course, I was happy to have had one or two aces along the way. Of course the event wasn’t about who played best, it was about helping Circle K raise money for important future events. Hanging out with friends and taking a break from engineering HW for a while was warmly accepted. I look forward to participating in future Circle K events like this one!
