Today we participated in a poverty simulator! Take a look at facts about poverty and hunger at the end of the minutes!

o Krispy Kreme Fundraiser § Monday, March 27th from 12-4 pm in Tillman Lobby o Service Auction § Tuesday, March 28th from 7-9 pm § UU Undergrounds § All proceeds go to St. Baldrick’s § Different people auctioning off different services: baking goods, cooking dinner, doing laundry, etc… o Relay for Life § Join our team “Binghamton Circle K” § Friday, April 28th from 5pm-5am § Come for as long or short as you would like! § Raise money for a great cause o Yankee Candle Fundraiser § Group Number: 990102093 § Share with friends and family!

From the Foodbank of the Southern Tier § Hunger and Education Chair: Hunger 101 § Difference between a food bank and a food pantry • Food Bank: Covers a large area, distributes food to food pantries • Food Pantry: Receives supplies from the food bank § What is poverty? • Living below a certain income level • Lack of consistent needs § How is poverty measured? • Single individual making $12,060 or under a year is living in poverty

Technology, transportation, food, medicine, healthcare, education, housing, and child care

Taking into consideration these factors the poverty line for a single individual should be closer to $25,000 which would help the people in the income range between $12,000-$25,000

Food insecurity Unhealthy food is less expensive therefore you can buy more however, leads to health problems

A big problem in the United States is food waste

Food fuels our body and keeps individuals from sharing emotion
