Circle K Meeting Minutes 10_1_18 Called to Order: 8:06 Opening Remarks: Goodbye, September! Hello, October! o October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM)! o Show your support by wearing pink to any meetings throughout the month! o The president of the Broome County Kiwanis (our chapter’s sponsor) paid us a visit last night! o He is trying to find a community service project that not only engages Kiwanis and Circle K, but also local Key Clubs o As per usual, if you haven’t done so already, please add us on Social Media! o Like our Facebook page and join the Circle K group for more reminders! o Follow us on Instagram! o Request to be a member of Circle K on B-engaged! o The B-engaged transcript contains all the clubs, sports, and events you have participated in throughout the year. This is important if you want to apply to be a member of an honor society or go through the RA selection process! o Want more updates? ▪ Join the Circle K Groupme! ▪ It’s a great way to stay involved and be in contact with all the members chartered in our club! ▪ We hope to use this group chat to advertise events and add a social element to our club! Past Events: o DLSSP- District Convention o There was a huge turnout for this event with over 200 Circle K members present! ▪ Each Bing Circle Kers completed 6 hours of services of garbage duty and helped with cleaning the kayaks. ▪ Emily will be creating a recap video to show at one of our meetings very soon! o Didn’t get to make it to DLSSP? ▪ NY speaking will be the first weekend in November! Stay tuned for more details! o Thank you to all who came out this past Saturday for the Riverbank Cleanup! ▪ The NYPIRG organization was glad that so many Circle Kers were able to help remove debris and help beautify the river! ▪ There will also be another Riverbank Cleanup over fall break for those who plan to stay in Binghamton! Upcoming Events: • VINES-EVERY WEDNESDAY & THURSDAYS o Volunteer to help with the Urban farm and help combat the Binghamton food desert! o Hours are Wednesday’s 1-3pm and Thursdays 9-12pm.


o This is a very flexible volunteer commitment! o Ask any eboard member for more info! o Just an fyi, it’s also on the bus line and we are trying to arrangement a carpool! •

October 4th o Community Opportunities Fair o Noon-4pm in the Mandela Room and Old Union Hall o Learn more and network with those who are involved with the Center of Civic Engagement. o Any community partners and organizations. You can just stop by the table o You have to get it signed by four orgs and then get a free t-shirt o This great way to connect with those interested in service on and off campus! o Come help us table at this event and learn more about other great orgs! o Shifts: ▪ 11:15am-12pm ▪ 1-2pm ▪ 3-4pm

Events at the Zoo! o Who doesn’t love animals? ▪ Help us volunteer at the craft and prize tables! ▪ Plus, we might be able to walk around the Zoo afterwards! ▪ You have to sign up independently! ▪ There will be at least two people from Circle K present at all times! Don’t worry, you will always have a buddy! o Howloween at the Zoo→ October 6th, 7 th, 13th, & 14th o Boo at the Zoo→ October 19th, 20th, 26th, & 27th ▪ Help scare people! You will be dressing up and hiding around the zoo!

October 13th-Out of the Darkness Walk (Fall Break)! o We can help keep you busy during fall break o This event will be held at Otsiningo Park from 9 to 2pm. o If you can, we also need volunteers to help clean up o District project we want to get hours for this cause!!

October 13th- The NYPIRG River Bank Cleanup Fall Break! o 8:30am-12:30pm o Were you not able to make the last clean up? Are you not going home for break? Then we hope to see you at the fall break River Bank Cleanup o At this event, you will help clean trash and remove brush.

Serve A Thon Rochester, NY 7:00am-5:00pm (We don’t have to stay the whole time) it’s a big K family event More info to come!

Thirst Project Speaker- Come learn more about how you can help the water crisis in Swaziland

Bake Sales! o We are figuring out a date and a cause to donate for our monthly bake sale!

o Trick or canning! ▪ Put in a new spin on the trick or treating! ▪ We will be collect cans for the those in need and then donating the items to Bare Necessities, the food pantry on campus. ▪ Make sure to keep coming to all the meetings, because Emily will still buy us candy! Committee Chair Applications! o Are you interested in applying to be a committee chair? o Ask Lauren (VP) who heads all the committee chairs for more information! o It isn’t a huge time commitment and looks amazing on a resume Dues: • Dues are $12, are not mandatory, but highly recommended! This is a requirement to become an official international member and to be able to run for eboard in the future! • A free t-shirt, insurance at events, and official certificate as well as a membership ID from Kiwanis are ALL INCLUDED •
