Circle K Meeting Minutes 10_22_18 Called to Order: 8:10 Opening Remarks: o Wear pink or bring something pink to our last meeting of the month for Breast Cancer Awareness! ▪ We would love to take a picture of all of you in your pink at the next meeting! o We were able to fundraise $50 to donate for Breast Cancer Research! ▪ This is a great start for the first bake sale of the year! o Whose handy with graphic design applications? o We need help with T-shirt designs—please start submitting soon! o On the mockup please include, Binghamton Circle K and the academic year! o Send your design(s) to circlek@binghamtonsa.org o If you haven’t already, add us on Social Media! o Like our Facebook page and join the Circle K group for more reminders! o Follow us on Instagram! o Request to be a member of Circle K on B-engaged! o The B-engaged transcript contains all the clubs, sports, and events you have participated in throughout the year(s)! Past Events: o Howloween at the Zoo o Boo at the Zoo!

Please continue to come to events and help us grow our service hour count! Upcoming Events: ▪ VINES-EVERY WEDNESDAY & THURSDAYS o Volunteer to help with the Urban farm and help combat the Binghamton food desert! o Hours are Wednesday’s 1-3pm and Thursdays 9-12pm. o This is a very flexible volunteer commitment! o You have to sign up on an individual basis, but we are trying to arrange a carpool. o Please let know Emily if you are interested in participating, because she can connect you with a group build. ▪

October 26th & 27th -Boo at the Zoo ▪ Break out your favorite Halloween Costume and help scare people around the zoo! ▪ Don’t have a costume? No worries, you will be provided one! ▪ 5:00-9:15pm ▪ Make sure to look out for the next email! There will be the link to sign up!

October 23rd -Trick or canning!


o 4-7pm o Come help put a new spin on the trick or treating! o We will be collect cans instead of candy for the those in need and then donating the items to Bare Necessities, the food pantry on campus. ▪

October 28th -Southern Tier Divisional #2 o Ithaca College is hosting this one! o Time is still TBD, but we are thinking around mid-day. o We currently have about 6 people signed up and we would love for more of you to come! o We are anticipating on having two cars drive up so that there are 4 spots remaining! ▪ This is a great way to meet members of Circle K from all over the Southern Tier! o Please let an eboard member or email circlek@binghamtonsa.org if you are interested in going!

October 28th-Austism Speaks Annual Trick or Treat 5K o Autism Speaks is hosting its annual 5K trick or treat event ▪ Unfortunately, the org is no longer looking for volunteers. ▪ Come out and support this great cause! • There is a $5 entrance fee for this event.

October 29th-GBM- Fleishman Center Presentation o Fleishman Center’s Lexi Avery is coming to workshop our professional development skills! ▪ She will teach us tips and tricks to market service in cover letters and resumes! ▪ Bring your resume if you would like for it to be critiqued. ▪ PLUS, there will most likely be food!

October 30th-Community Meal o Please join us at the United Presbyterian Church from 4:30-7:00pm o There are four spots total! o At the soup kitchen, we will be helping distribute food to community members in need! o This is the last Tuesday of the month, so many people will be at the soup kitchen including children. ▪ We hope that this will be a great outlet to connect with more than just the students of Bing ▪ We hope to have many volunteer events like this throughout the rest of the semester as well as later in the year!

November 2nd-4th- NY Speaking o Lake George (check out the pictures from previous years, it’s a beautiful place!) o This event is conference style with programming geared for the success of any Circle Ker or any college student for that matter! ▪ A previous event was learning to cook with only a microwave.


o This event is a little bit more expensive, so we need to know if you are interested ASAP o We will be able to subsize some of the costs ▪

November 5th- GBM Meeting • Stop by FREE PIZZA! o Thirst Project Water Warriors (speakers) ▪ Come learn more about how you can help defeat the water crisis in Swaziland by 2020

Later in the semester! • November 12- MORE Bake Sales! o We are going to need people to table and others to bake! o Please sign up and let an eboard member know that you are interested! •

November 12- Friendsgiving! o The last meeting before Thanksgiving o Y’all are going to bring food; it’s going to be potluck style! o Hope everyone can make it ☺

Dues are $12, are not mandatory, but highly recommended! This is a requirement to become an official international member and to be able to run for eboard in the future! o DUES ARE DUES AT THE NEXT MEETING! o Dues include: ▪ free t-shirt ▪ insurance at events ▪ official certificate ▪ membership ID from Kiwanis. On October 22nd, 1995: Charley Boswell died in Birmingham at age 78. Blinded in World War II, he was the nation’s most famous blind golfer, winning 28 titles. A caddy told him where to shoot. His celebrity tournament raised millions for Birmingham’s Eye Foundation Hospital. On October 22nd, 2003: A 37-year-old woman landed in Santa Cruze, California, after allegedly robbing a bank and then waiting in the parking lot for police to arrive. Police say


the woman took $857, walked outside, and got into her pickup truck to wait for officers to arrive. She put up no struggle, and the money was recovered. On October 22nd, 2004: British hostage Margaret Hassan, the kidnapped head of CARE International operations in Iraq, pleaded with British Prime Minister Tony Blair to save her life by pulling troops out of Iraq.
