The Farewell Address by John Tirino

I can’t believe that it is already time for me to write this article. I have to apologize to Jenna since I put this off for so long. I simply didn’t want to write it because I do not want my term as President to be over. I have had so much fun working alongside everyone and leading our club to one of the most successful years we have ever had. This experience has been the most rewarding thing that I have done in my life. I have to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President this past service year, and I am honored to have been elected Southern Tier Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 service year. I know this year will be even better than this past year. During my time at Binghamton Circle K I have developed so many friendships and have gotten to meet so many new people. Every time I meet one of you I amazed by

your passion for service, leadership, and fellowship. At the beginning of my term I was terrified that I would not have a lot of members that were passionate about service and genuinely wanted to help others. However, I am so thankful that you all decided that Circle K was where you belonged, and I hope that I was able to foster a sense of family for you because that is what we are. Binghamton Circle K is essentially my second family, and I am sad to see my term come to an end, but I know that the club will continue to grow. Last year around this time I remember training under past president and current based Governor Jerry Cimo. I was so #blessed to have him as a predecessor because he helped me whenever I needed it, and I am excited to work with him this year. I am also excited to now be training

current President Courtney Aronica. I know that she is going to lead our club to an extremely successful year. Now entering my third year in Circle K I am able to look back and realize that this was this single best decision I have made in my college career. I have two more years left to help our club be a success and even help make the New York District one of the strongest in the world. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without Circle K, or even the K-Family for that matter, and I have only you all to thank for that. You all inspire me to be a better person, and Binghamton Circle K will always be my home. Yours in service, John Tirino Immediate Past President

Goodbye to the 2015-16 Executive Board Binghamton Circle K has been a big part of my life for the past four years and one of my favorite college experiences. I have seen the club grow from a few members doing one or two service projects each semester to a huge club with countless service opportunities. I am especially grateful to have served on the as Vice President. I got to meet so many great people including committee chairs and general members that inspired me to keep serving. Of course, I also participated in some unique service opportunities like preparing Kamp Kiwanis for winter and cleaning up the Ross Park Zoo. I feel that joining Binghamton Circle K really changed my life in a positive way. Being a part of the executive board added to this because I got to help other people take part in service projects, as well. After graduating, I will truly miss everyone I met through Circle K and I hope to visit next year! Yours in service, Amy Boglarski Immediate Past Vice President

I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to serve as your secretary this past year. I joined Circle K my freshman year of college, and little did I know that this club would become such a huge part of my life. Circle K has helped me find happiness through the service of others. It’s given me the opportunity to give back, help those who are less fortunate, and make a difference. My journey from being just a member, to being the historian, and finally secretary, has been incredible. I’ve met the most amazing people along the way and made lifelong friendships. I am so proud of all that our club has accomplished this year. From reaching our fundraising and service hour goals, to winning numerous awards at DCON, our club continues to grow and do amazing things. #GoBingCKI I wish the new e-board nothing but the best, and I can’t wait to see what incredible things our club will do in the upcoming service year! Yours in service, Karandeep Singh Immediate Past Secretary

With the new service year upon us, I was really able to reflect on my time as treasurer this past year, and I’ve realized just how much I’ve grown and learned. Throughout my term, I’ve really enjoyed taking initiative and having the responsibility of the club’s finances in my hands. Even though it can become hectic at times, it really allowed me to acquire essential skills that I can bring to all aspects of my life. In addition, I loved that being treasurer allowed me to meet so many new people in the club that I never would have had I chosen to just be an idle member. The past executive board and committee chairs and I have become great friends, and I definitely attribute this blessing to Circle K. Now that I have been elected for treasure for the new service year, I am very excited to bring the wisdom I have learned to accomplish more than I did this past service year. I am looking forward to the new fundraisers that our club will host, as well as all the new people that I will meet along the way.

When I first joined Circle K, I had no idea how much it would affect my time here at Binghamton. I was immediately drawn into the club by the in-meeting service projects and its amazing people I met. One of the first events that I participated in was Relay for Life, which showed me how fulfilling it could be to give back to the community and how much the members of our club truly cared about service. Now, more than two years later, I’m extremely proud of how much our club has grown and what we’ve accomplished. Serving as webmaster on this eboard was an incredibly rewarding experience and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to do so. Our members and incoming eboard are all extremely hardworking and dedicated. I can’t wait to see how our club continues to grow and make a greater difference in the community over the course of the next year. Yours in service, Julia Dunnigan Immediate Past Webmaster

Talent Show for ELIMINATE by Jess Siegal

On Tuesday night, March 15

th,

Circle K held a talent show in the Undergrounds Coffeehouse. The talent show had a great and diverse turnout, featuring a capella groups, hula hoop dancers, stand up comedians, singers, and even an interpretive dance of the movie Titanic. The show began with an a cappella rendition of Son of a Preacher Man ended with one brave dancer performing songs from Footloose. Three faculty members were also present as judges, and at the end of the show

they chose their top three acts. The winners were Victor the singersongwriter, the team of hula hoop dancers, and one of the comedians. In addition to the talent show, several prizes were raffled off. Among these prizes were vintage comic books, a coupon for CyberCafĂŠ West, and the highly coveted Walmart gift card. All of the money that was raised from ticket sales and raffles went to the Eliminate Project, to help protect mothers and their future children from maternal-neonatal tetanus.

Late Nite Event by Melissa Levine

On Friday, March 18, Circle K

hosted a Late Nite event to benefit the Thirst Project. We served various warm drinks such as hot chocolate, peppermint mocha, and apple cider. Many students stopped at our table and customized their own drinks with many toppings like marshmallows, syrups, chocolate chips and more. We also had a mandala art station where students could de-stress and color.

and explaining the world water crisis. Some students were even generous enough to donate money towards the project. The money made from hosting the event will also go directly to the Thirst Project. I would like to thank Elle, Christina, Cassie, and Amy for all helping me with the event. Overall it was a fun and successful night!

At the table we spread awareness about the cause by giving out flyers

Event Spotlight District Convention by Kayla Bautista

I had no idea what to expect when I first signed up for the Circle K District Convention. Besides, the only reason I signed up was to learn more about my new position as Webmaster. Little did I know that I would meet such touching and memorable people that weekend, and be inspired to get more involved in the club.

insignificant until you see the ripple effect it creates. Hearing stories about and meeting the people for whom these fundraisers are for are eye opening to say the least, and has inspired me to want to do even more for the community, knowing that a small effort like that can significantly change someone’s life.

I never realized that Circle K had such a wide scope until I saw the district come together and heard everyone’s stories about how their lives were changed by the organization. Some started the club in their schools to find a purpose, some joined the club to find a sense of belonging, but all have made a huge impact in their communities. Small events like bake sales, talent shows, and charity walks seem so

Southern Tier Divisional by Amy Boglarski

This semester’s Southern Tier Divisional Meeting was on March 6 at Cornell University. As one of the members of the Southern Tier Division, Binghamton Circle K was happy to attend and take part in the meeting. It was great to see Circle K members from Cornell and Ithaca College in attendance, and Elmira College who skyped in to join us. Lieutenant Governor Tina Lee took charge of the meeting and gave an excellent and informative presentation about the Thirst Project, our District Project. Tina taught us about the worldwide water crisis and ways we could get involved in solving it, especially on World Water Day, March 22. She also showed a great video clip on the water problem going on right now in Flint, Michigan. It was a really good way to relate the worldwide water crisis to problems going on here and now in the United States. So, the water crisis is something that goes on all over the world including close to home and not just in far off places.

Of course, an important part of the divisional was the election portion. Two candidates were running for the position of Southern Tier Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 service year. It was a tough decision, but ultimately Binghamton’s very own John Tirino came out the winner. He gave an awesome speech, highlighting his ideas for a divisional project next year and his plan to visit all of the clubs in the division. Everyone is looking forward to John leading the Southern Tier division starting April 1! The divisional then concluded with some pizza and soda, the best way to close a meeting. Overall, the divisional was quite successful. We got to meet Circle K’ers from other clubs in our division, learn more about the Thirst Project and World Water Day, and vote for our new Lieutenant Governor!

ELLO GOV’NA A Word from your 2016-17 District Governor Jerry Cimo

I'm so excited for this upcoming service year. I love The Southern Tier Division, and I am mad hyped to get to continue working with all six clubs as your District Governor for the 2016-2017-service year. The Southern Tier is one of the strongest and most active divisions in our district, and I am proud to call it my home division. Furthermore, I'm excited for the opportunity to visit and collaborate with the different clubs in the division throughout this year alongside my friend and TST Lieutenant Governor John Tirino.

Circle K truly has become my family, and I'll be forever grateful for all of the great experiences I've had. This is going to be an amazing year for all of us, and it wouldn't be possible without the continued dedication and involvement of all of our amazing members like you. If any of you ever need anything, please never hesitate to reach out to me.

Editor’s Final Note It’s incredible to reflect and realize what a difference a year makes. Only a year ago I had started my journey as Circle K’s editor (or scribe, as some would call it), and I knew I had a challenging task ahead, having to publish the newsletter by which we could reflect on our accomplishments and services each month. I knew I would have big shoes to fill, with my predecessor being Alyssa Famolari, the 2015-2016 District Editor. I witnessed her bring home not only the Club Newsletter Award, but also the Outstanding Editor award, and I knew I wanted to be able to do the same for our club. When my time as editor began, I tried to figure out different ways to get people to actively write and contribute to the newsletter. Though it wasn’t always easy, I am incredibly grateful for those that were enthusiastic about sharing their experiences, giving all of our members a chance to be in the know.

work closely with this year’s e-board, as each and every one of them went above and beyond their duties. With the dedication of our club’s members, I never had a problem finding things to include in the newsletter. I was inspired to match their dedication with my own, and ensured that our events and members would get the recognition they deserve. I am delighted to say that the Binghamton CKInsider was able to guarantee that the Club Newsletter Award would stay with Binghamton, an accomplishment that can be credited to all of our members. I have the utmost faith that next year’s editor, Kora Sileo, will only build on what Alyssa and myself have done, and I am eager to read and write for the next newsletter. Yours in service, Jenna Spak Immediate Past Editor (Scribe)

I also feel honored to have been able to
