Thank You for a Great Service Year!
Hello everyone, for the last time! Thank you all for selecting me to be your editor for the 20162017 service year. It was a pleasure writing newsletters for all of you, and I hope you thoroughly enjoyed all of the puns. I am looking forward to seeing what the new editor, Melanie, comes up with for future newsletters! I am also so excited to see all of the great things that the new e-board will do this service year. I have extremely high hopes for all of them, and I trust that they will go above and beyond expectations. Best wishes to all of you, have a safe and fun spring break!
Congratulations to the New E-Board! President: Allison Tipaldo
Treasurer: Cassie Jiang
Editor: Melanie Dietrich
Vice President: Emily Fenter
Secretary: Emily Saba
Webmaster: Alanna Witowski
March Bake Sale By Cassie Jiang We had our first spring bake sale on Wednesday March 8th at the old union Tillman lobby. We sold Oreo truffles, cake pops, chocolate-coated pretzels, and flower pot cupcakes in a cone. We raised a total of 64 dollars at the bake sale. All proceeds went towards buying toiletries and feminine products for people, especially woman, who can’t afford to buy these items and donating it to our very own Binghamton University’s Bear Necessities Food Pantry, right here on campus. You may be surprised how many people are out there who are given food to eat but highly lacking in hygienic supplies.
Event Highlight‌
District Convention! By Allison Tipaldo DCON 2017 was a blast! I took part in several workshops that will prepare me for serving as President during this service year. For example, I attended the International Charities workshop and one that went over all of the officer roles. I also got great career advice from the Kiwanians who were in attendance, and bonded with Governor Stephen Sirgiovanni, who happens to live 2 towns over from me. I got to meet so many kind people, and have a great time with them! I also grew closer with the members of Binghamton Circle K. It was so cool being able to see all of the great work that is being done by Circle K clubs around the state. I definitely left feeling inspired and motivated. It was a great time, and I would highly recommend our members going!
Service Auction By Emily Saba On March 28th, from 7-9, we held a large-scale Service Auction fundraiser to benefit the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation. The Saint Baldrick’s Foundation is an organization geared towards conquering childhood cancers, and has already raised over $23 million dollars in 2017 alone! The service auction consisted of services auctioned off by our members, and raffles donated by local Binghamton restaurants and companies. With a $5 admission fee, you received 2 bidding tickets and 1 raffle ticket. After eating and socializing, we had our auction at 7:30. 13 services were auctioned off, ranging from a cost of 1 ticket to our max of 17! After our auction, we raffled 9 prizes to our lucky winners, consisting of gift cards, Binghamton bookstore apparel, and TGIF appetizer cards. In total, we raised $165 towards our international project. While our event was a success, I do feel that we could have raised more if more people knew about our event. Perhaps advertising would be best focused online rather than in person. Nonetheless, it was a fun time for everyone and I enjoyed being an auctioneer for the night! ☺
Krispy Kreme Fundraiser By Elle Swete We have had several fundraisers this semester. Last week we held a Krispy Kreme fundraiser to raise money for our club. We raised over $100 for the club, which was great. This will help to put on service events and attend district events like DCON. If you want to help our club, you can still order from our Yankee Candle sale! It is our last fundraiser for the year. We get 40% from each sale! There are really cute things on there that you could buy for Mother’s Day! Thanks to everyone who has donated their time to help raise money and who have participated in these fundraisers!

Tim was chosen as member of the month for his dedication to the Binghamton Circle K Executive Board over the past two years. Tim has been an incredible treasurer, and he has allowed the club to reach record highs in the number of dues collected, as well as in fundraising completed. Tim was named Distinguished Treasurer at District Convention, and he definitely earned this honor. Thank you for two years of fantastic work, Tim!
Thank you to the incredible exiting e-board… Thank you to our wonderful e-board for a great year full of service. The team work of the six e-board members allowed for all of the club’s success, and it enabled us to take home six awards at District Convention. I am grateful for serving with this great group, and I know that the new representatives will bring great things! Here are some closing words from your e-board…
President: Courtney Aronica Serving as your President for the past year has been an extremely rewarding experience. It was a pleasure to watch members thrive and grow as individuals, by participating in various service events and fundraisers, learning leadership skills, making new friends, and even earning awards and certificates. I’m proud of the relationships I’ve made throughout the past year and the positive impact Binghamton Circle K has had on our community. I am also proud to say that our club has grown significantly from 52 members to 72 members in the past year. Additionally, Binghamton Circle K had the most funds raised of any club in New York District. In the next year, I hope to see our club continue to grow and make a positive impact in the lives of others at our university, our community, and the world as a whole.
Vice President: Paty Acipreste: I've been a part of Circle K since freshman year and I can't believe my third year in the club is coming to an end. I felt welcome and excited to join the club because I know community service is such a great way to give back to the community, so I surrounded myself with people that thought the same way. Going from a member to KFamily Relations Chair, to Vice President really showed my evolvement in the club. This was an amazing year where I met new people from the greater Kiwanis family and learned about what they do, and we even collaborated on a few projects together! I am excited to see what Circle K is doing next year, and how we're going to help the community this time! The new e-board is very excited for a brand-new year. I can't wait!
Secretary: Emily Fenter Hello Binghamton Circle Kers! It has been an honor to serve as your club secretary for the past service year. I think we did a really great job getting involved in the local community and working with the district goals. What I was most impressed by this year was the amount of hours we contributed to the district, governor’s, and international project. It has been great to track all of your hours and see you all gain involvement and what I hope you also gained was a feeling of belonging. Circle K is more than just our club, it's a giant family that is larger than anyone can comprehend. I'm very proud of how our club worked in the past service year and I'm looking forward to the new service year that has just recently begun. In this upcoming service year I'm excited to see new members and new eboard members grow as people and professionals. I'm also hoping to continue to grow our club size and increase involvement more consistently across our member base. I want to see us continue to work with some of the community partners we have already made relationships with and continue to grow and reach out to other organizations in the local community. Local outreach is key and I'm looking forward to increasing our connections with Binghamton. I'm super proud of the service year we just completed and very excited for the new service year that has just begun!
Treasurer: Tim Leung In the two years that I have served on the E-board of Circle K as Treasurer, I can definitely say that I have watched the club grow and evolve in many ways. What started out as me just joining a club to get involved on campus when I was a freshmen has lead to me meeting some of my closest friends and having the most rewarding experiences. For the 2016-2017 service year, I felt that our club was as strong as ever. Our E-board and Committee Chairs were all very committed to the club and our duties, bringing enthusiasm and fun to every meeting and event. Thanks to this service year, I met even more people that I wouldn't have had I not been on the E-board. It is my hope that the succeeding e-board carry on this legacy, resulting in greater membership and participation. I have no doubt that the new e-board can accomplish this!
Webmaster: Kayla Bautista Being a part of Circle K has always been an honor, but being part of a group of heartwarming students to lead it is beyond anything I thought I would ever experience. Though I wish I had become closer to my fellow e-board members, you can't just ask superheroes to lunch. Nevertheless, being given the chance to communicate our efforts to the online community and through social media, and creating a website that can be used for years to come, has allowed me to practice my unique, valuable skills while making a difference. It was an amazing opportunity to watch student leaders spearhead events that change and shape the local community. It reminded me that any effort is appreciated, and changing the world starts with the decision to try. It was and will forever be a pleasure to serve for and with Circle K, and the lifelong friends that I've made along the way.
