Happy December!
Our club has so much to be thankful for. For one, our awesome members continue to be active in providing their services to the community, making for another successful month of service. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving, and is getting ready to finish the semester strong. As the semester winds down, keep in mind that service has no offseason, and you can continue to be active in your community over the winter break. If you’re looking for motivation, read about all of the great events our club had in November, showing just what a big difference a few people can make!

Late Nite Scavenger Hunt By Amy Boglarski
What's the best way to spend a Friday night on campus? Participating in an awesome Late Nite Event, of course! On November 13, Binghamton Circle K hosted one of these spectacular events and received a great turnout of students, both Circle K'ers and non-members attending Late Nite. For our Late Nite event this semester, we decided to put on a photo scavenger hunt. Participants had to take pictures of themselves or their teammates posing with specific objects or items of certain colors that were listed. The twist is that all of the listed items for the scavenger hunt represented different forms of cancer, such as stomach cancer or breast cancer. All of the money raised from this event was donated to Stupid Cancer, an organization that raises cancer awareness for young adults. This was all the great idea of our Governor's Project Committee Chair, Ponle

Iluymade, who wanted to raise money for Stupid Cancer in a unique way. Because this event was so successful and fun, Late Nite granted us the full amount for clubs hosting events, $50. All of the participants had a really good time finding the objects and taking pictures for the scavenger hunt. The winners had the fastest times among many teams, and won fabulous prize baskets. This was a truly successful event because we not only had fun, and provided fun for other students on campus and raised the money we set out to raise for Stupid Cancer!

New York Speaking By Tina Lee
This year’s New York Speaking theme was Murder Mystery, and solving the mystery was only one of many exciting activities we had in store for the weekend. Circle K members from all over the New York District had the opportunity to bond with their team members and learn more about service and leadership. During the icebreakers, led by Ali Ahmed, each team participated in a series of activities that involved teamwork. One of my favorite activities was when each team had to shape themselves in a way to portray a certain object.. Evan Wesley from the Thirst Project came to speak to us about a lot of things including our district project, but I think

one of the most important lessons he shared with us was that if we want to go fast in life, go alone, but if we want to go far in life, go together. There was a service fair on Saturday. Governor Walaa led a table by setting up her own “Alex’s lemonade stand”, a fundraiser to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research and treatments. Binghamton also hosted their own booth to make Boo-Boo Bunnies! From a hot chocolate social to a dress your president contest, the weekend was nothing short of a good time. I can honestly say that this New York Speaking was the best one I’ve ever been to as of yet!

Event Spotlight Dodgeball Tournament By Greg Todd On November 4th, Circle K hosted a dodgeball tournament in the Mandela Room to raise money for the Eliminate Project; a global campaign to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. The tournament attracted ten diverse teams, which included several Circle K members along with other Binghamton University students and community members. Among others, the teams included “The Avengers”, “Kora’s Team”, “The Purple Cobras”, “The Throwbocops”, and “The Average Joes.” In this single-elimination tournament, these teams battled until only one team remained. After about two hours and dozens of fast paced, competitive games, “The Throwbocops” came out on top to win the Championship.
Throughout the course of the event, both players and fans enjoyed glorious amounts of food while watching the dodgeball action. Everyone in attendance also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a variety of different prizes donated by local businesses. The prizes included comic books, beauty supplies, car washes, gift certificates to restaurants and stores, and many more. The tournament was a huge success as we were able to raise $500 for the Eliminate Project. Being one of the many players who participated in the tournament, I can say that this was an extremely fun and rewarding experience. Win, lose, or draw, it felt great to be out there competing with a team of friends and it felt even better knowing that we were raising money for a good cause. As a club, we should be proud of what we were able to accomplish with this event.

Rescue Mission Meal By Yasmin Stith
Just a few steps away from BC Junction is a church with a very special operation. Though they serve dinner every Tuesday, the First Presbyterian Church teams up with Rescue Mission on the last Tuesday of every month to serve an extra special dinner to those in need. Karandeep Singh, Kora Sileo, John Tirino, Kaitlin Sui, and I assisted the Rescue Mission’s not-exactly-Thanksgiving feast last month. Handed out with gusto were plates of turkey, stuffing, pie, and mashed potatoes mashed and mixed by our president, John. In a true spirit of giving, many volunteers came to help out from all over Broome County. The church strives to treat the people who walk through their doors with respect and comfort. The woman in charge of the meal greeted everyone with smiles and hugs; a lot of the patrons she knew by name. The tables had tablecloths accompanied by placemats decorated festively by local

children. The dining room was made to seem like we were in a restaurant - which many homeless and hungry people don’t get to frequent. The youth orchestra helped set a pleasant mood, as well. Happy to have something warm in their stomachs and take part in a welcoming atmosphere, the guests left with content faces, as did the volunteers. Maybe serving such an ample amount food and happiness made us oblivious to our own needs until our jobs were done, or maybe the meal was just that good, either way, the members of Circle K virtually devoured their plates. I wasn’t really expecting the offer of a meal, but it was a great finishing touch to an already awesome experience.
