The Bucks Student lite edition 2 By Jade Collis Remote volunteering

Still have that itch to help out or to do something meaningful with your spare time? Jade Collis has you covered, and will be covering volunteering opportunities you can do from home in every edition.

Helping the local community: Want to give back to our local resident homes? Why not become a penpal for the residents? You could do this via email - emailing them about their day or interests is a great way to volunteer from the comfort of your own home. Or are you a performer who is missing performing? We are currently trying to set up virtual performances. So if you are a singer, or dancer or have any other performing skills, why not volunteer your time to perform to the residents on their telly in the communal area. Still in halls? Why not offer to volunteer to run errands or pick up essentials to the residents who no longer can. Donating blood Want to give back and help the NHS, why don’t you register to become a blood donor today. Quite simply giving blood saves lives. Nearly 400 new donors are needed each day to meet demand, blood donors from all backgrounds are needed to ensure there is the right blood available for those that need it. A few facts for you: Around 135,000 new donors are needed a year to replace those who can no longer donate. More young people are needed to give blood so the NHS can make sure there is enough blood in the future. Your red blood cells, platelets and plasma can save up to 3 lives. To register, you can go to my.blood.co.uk/preregister once you have answered a few questions you can make an appointment anywhere across the Country. Be my eyes: Be my eyes is an app that is available to all iOS and Android users. The app is free and it connects blind and ‘people with low vision’ to sighted volunteers. The app is designed for the volunteers to offer visual assistance through video calls. A Volunteering opportunity like this can make a real difference to someone’s life!

These are only some suggestions of how you can use your time for good! Whatever you chose to do will have a huge impact on someone else so get involved! When volunteering don’t forget to tell us all about it by tagging the union on Instagram and Twitter and logging your volunteering hours!
