Getting quizzical
By Tyler-Louise Griffiths Let’s get quizzical
Quiz on a Sunday has been a staple of my uni career for the last 3 years, be that working it or taking part with friends, so I was looking forward to bring that routine back into my life during isolation! Being a huge Disney fanatic I was excited for the theme, I know my Marlin’s from my Mushu’s, and felt I had a good shot at placing well – even if I didn’t win… which I didn’t, but that’s besides the point. Taking part in the quiz was easy enough, at 8.15 the code for the quiz was posted on the event page on Facebook, as well as the SU’s Instagram story, I put the 6 digit code into the Kahoot app and the quiz began. The quiz worked virtually the same as Speed Quizzing in The Lounge, just without the hosts and punfilled quiz names. After having a chance to read the question you have 10 seconds to answer the question, the faster you answer the more points you got for that question – which definitely upped the pressure! After each question you get to see where you’re currently placed against the others, and this made me more competitive to beat the person ahead of me each round. Doing the quiz at home was really enjoyable, the theme was amazing and it really helped to bring up my mood during isolation – I can’t wait to take part in the quiz again this Sunday, better brush up on my Noughties Pop Stars knowledge so I can (hopefully) place higher in the rankings this week! I hope the SU is able to keep these at home quizzes up during the period that the UK is in lockdown, it managed to lift my mood and it’s a great break from my dissertation – plus there are so many themes that could be done to please a wide variety of interests. Keeping in the theme of music we could see different decades or genres for music, TV Shows – sitcoms, Game of Thrones, Netflix (seeing as we’ll be watching a lot of it during lockdown), Movies – Harry Potter is always a crowd pleaser! Whatever theme they decide to do the quizzes going forward I will for sure be taking part in the future – I may even make a pizza to fill the void of quiz pizzas at the Students’ Union.
