Kajukenbo is an eclectic and versatile system that was born as a useful and credible tool for self-defense in modern times, it is not a martial art of sports or traditional profile and therefore its learning is suitable for all types of people whatever their condition and in which there is only one premise according to its creator Sijo Emperado. The problem we have in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is that many practitioners drop out after achieving a blue belt. This is because for most GJJ practitioners, the blue belt is not only considered the "first" higher level, but the understanding of the fundamentals, which is very important in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, is achieved. In fact, achieving a blue belt is not as easy as in other martial arts or combat sports. Not seeing something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. In fact, everything that exists apparently arises from the void. Within matter, there is much more vacuum space than particles. To get an idea, imagine that you stick a pin in the center of a football field, representing the nucleus of an atom; the electrons that circulate around it would be justly represented rotating at the distance of the stadium stands. In reality, matter itself is rather a vibrant strainer than that idea of solidity we generally have about it. The point is that, for us, the Universe manifests predominantly throughout our senses, which are great tools, but all too limited in themselves. A gift of evolution that we have used to survive through adaptation. For example, our eyes perceive only a small part of the vibrational spectrum of light, which when it hits our retinas, is interpreted by the brain as shapes and colors. What we see is not what things are, but what we perceive from them by the light that bounces off their surface. We live our lives in a closed cube with a series of holes through which information gets in, and that are reduced to five senses; these collect the impulses they are capable of perceiving so that the brain interprets them, also within its limited interpreting capacity. The brain is a complex device through which whirlwinds of electrical discharges circulate, trying to bring order to the chaos of information it handles. We have grown accustomed to conceive the Universe that surrounds us, others and even ourselves in this way, and we have learned, through education, to reach an agreement on what we call reality. The human body is a dynamo of energy, which has the power of generating heat and emitting even more subtle waves. repulsion for similar or divergent energies. The earth itself produces its magnetic field, and we, inserted in it, participate in its force. There are places where certain forces are more strongly present, spots of power, which respond to specific fractals of the vibratory scale. The condensation of these energies can respond to two formulas: the natural and the artificial. The natural formula exists without any added element: the sea, a lake, a forest, a volcano, possess a determined and repetitive signature. On the other hand, artificial scenarios require the continuous feeding of that force: a hospital, a cemetery, a church, possess and maintain their vibratory nature only while they are fed. In any case, in both types of scenarios, our body will be altered within them, both positively and negatively. The human body does not end at the skin; a bubble composed of invisible elements, but nowadays perfectly recordable by science, surrounds us continuously acting as an intermediary between the body and the environment. The sages of the past perceived that this bubble arises from the friction and interaction between the physical body and the spiritual body that animates it. In its continuous interaction with the environment, the bubble continuously connects interior and exterior, up and down, right and left, drawing a network, a spider's web, malleable, capable of expanding or contracting, of lighting up or darkening, and that connects us with the visible and the invisible. Some people with greater sensitivity are capable of perceiving and interacting in much subtler planes of reality, although, being as we are all endowed with such mechanisms, we all have the same possibilities of accessing these planes of consciousness and reality. Many ancient cultures point to the pituitary gland as the nerve center of this activity. It does not seem by chance that this reference is repeated in peoples who never had the

opportunity to contact each other in historical times, but who eventually reached the same conclusions. Called Agña-akhia (or third eye) in the Hindu tradition, the pituitary gland is located in the center of the head and has a lot of functions related to the control of hormones in the body. If we locate the rest of the centers in charge of this task in the body, we will find some parallels with the other energy centers described in the ancient traditions: Pituitary, thyroid, thymus, adrenal, or ovaries in the case of women, and gonads in that of men, were described as major points of collision between ascending forces (from earth) and descending forces (from heaven), major sources of energy activity, capable of creating and emanating tension vibratory fields. The energy bubble thus has a central axis that coincides with the spine and its last big vertebra, the head, which acts as an energy highway and goes through expansive and contractive phases. What we are is also what we carry in that bubble. No matter how clean we are, if we put a sack of potatoes hanging from our back for a few weeks, when they rot, they will give off a bad smell and

attract flies. In the same way our bubble can become negative, attracting all kinds of negativity to our lives, because on the same plane we attract what we emanate, since the similar attracts the similar. The idea that we are spiritual beings living a material existence thus finds a new path in the consciousness of this new time. The true adventure of this era will be inward, not outward, or it will not be.

Master Adriano Emperado, the founder of Kajukenbo, saw in him a son, a successor, because Angel García's commitment had no limits. On the death of the master, as often happens, division, dissensions and disagreements appeared, and “the mighty Lord Money, who rules over kings, and priests and scholars”, ruined friendships, claimed privileges and plunged into confusion the youngest who approached this forceful Martial style, always vigorous and explosive, like the volcanoes of its native Hawaii which saw it born. Angel Garcia continues to work on the pure essence of the Art of its founder, giving courses and teaching those who want to learn the true essence of Emperado's legacy. One of these systems is Kajukenbo, which was created in the 1940s in Honolulu (Hawaii) by Adriano Directo Emperado, who initially did it together with masters of other Martial Arts such as Korean Karate, Judo, Jujitsu,

Chinese Boxing and Kempo, the latter provided by Master Emperado himself, hence its name made up of the first syllables of the names of each discipline. Over time, the group disbanded due to the outbreak of the Korean War and the mobilization of the members to join the ranks. Emperado stayed in Honolulu and kept working on the system along with his brother Joseph. Together they structured and created the first specific Kajukenbo program, which they began to teach in Palama Setlement, Honolulu (Hawaii).

Master Frisan starts a new series of DVDs on the best Kyusho points for different situations. In this first installment, of 2 volumes, we focus the study on the defense against the main arm attacks: grabs, thrusts and punches. Keep Your Distance! Man has utilized various techniques, strategies and weapons during recorded history, not only to hunt, but to do battle as well. Typically, if a weapon was discovered, it was used perhaps until a better one was found. Sometimes it was a matter of finding that tool in the environment, sometimes it was making that tool, either through serendipity, or through passed-down knowledge. Perhaps the first tool was simply using a strike with a hand, or foot. Maybe it progressed to wielding a rock in that hand, or using a switch. That discovery may have been followed up by a rope, which may have led to the club, then the war hammer and finally the hatchet. With those natural progressions, discovery included ingenuity, thought, observation, and ultimately conclusions. “If I hit an animal with a rock, eventually it becomes a meal.”

Avi Nardia s the brain developed, so did the tools. Man learned to better use them, to devise new and better weapons, and new and better ways to access the food resources all around them. It also developed awareness – this tool works best on this animal, in this way, and by doing ‘this’ with it. Eventually the brain developed the ability to quantify methods based on observed results. Those observations would have had to include – accessibility, ability, prowess, favorable results. Those would develop and progress further to include – risk vs. gain, favorable odds, element of surprise, planning, strategy, tactics and ultimately the addition of distance as a factor to be considered to attain not only victory, but mastery. In ancient times in order to engage in conflict, one had to be in contact with another. They had to both be within reach of each in order to escalate conflict into combat. Distance. To do that, one or both parties would have had to move closer to the other, or each other. Contact then becomes possible, dependent in proximity, and the weapons range. If that weapon was merely a fist, they’d have had to be with arms reach to be effective at all. If the combatants were a football field away, that would not have resulted in contact/combat. At the same time, limiting contact/damage/casualties would also require distance – retreat, withdrawal, or simply by not being there! Distance can be both beneficial and a deficit to your personal safety and that of your tribe/clan/family.

Avi Nardia While engaged in contact, you can continually use the gift of distance to improve your tactics, improve your odds of victory and limit the damage your are subjected to. By using it wisely you can counter their attack strategy, eliminate their effectiveness to do damage, and quell their strike capabilities due to their dependence on using distance as well. Close-in fighters, like boxers, often rely on their own abilities to ‘get in and get out’ during heated matches. They use their feet way more than they use their hands – the striking tool. Their feet provide mobility, which helps them create to eliminate distance issues. They can use one leg to pivot either in or out to create targeting opportunities – the liver punch is an excellent example of delivering a devastating blow to an opponent that absolutely requires good use of distance.

We can use distance to effectively avoid conflict, and thus contact – by simply using the gift of remote location, If we’re not there, the opportunities for contact and damage are limited, or entirely eliminated! If we run away (run, hide, fight), we avoid conflict and contact. If contact is inevitable, then we must master the use of distance. It needs to be prioritized and mastered to assure positive outcomes – for our team. Closing distance is but one strategy – it provides unique opportunities and may be the only answer, or the best answer for the situation that faces you. Leaving the room may also be the only answer, or the best solution to your conflict/contact. Distance provides many opportunities. It provides ability. It provides advantage. It can provide surprise. It can provide access. It may ultimately affect the psychological state of the other party – which can include disrupting their OODA loop, and thus their ability to continue the conflict/contact. Which could hand you victory. Yes, it’s effective when used as a psychological tool as well as a physical tool.

You know what it feels like when you have been one-upped in sparring, and your opponent has suddenly taken your base, you’ve lost your balance and you are in free-fall – on your way to the mat, and in that instant, you are in shock, and realize that your strategy just failed. That is a psychological fail for you, and a victory for your opponent. He just used distance to affect victory… and the point. He used distance to get within striking range to sweep your leg, or to attach his center of gravity to your framework and then he effectively used simple leverage to take your center of gravity off axis. Distance. It was really that simple. You’ll need to consider distance, and all that it provides, all that it entails, all that it can reveal. Use it effectively, and you may prevail. But certainly ignore it, or don’t use it to good effect and you will become the vanquished, the defeated, just another victim of it’s abilities. …Distance is your friend. For 4 decades, Patrick Levet has been involved in the propagation of Vietnamese martial culture. It is now time to move on to a more precise and detailed description of this form of combat, but also of its various forms of evolution which are the Vật de Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo and the Vật de Vovinam Integral. With this new DVD, Vietnamese Vat is presented in a completely new way. Instead of simply filming the techniques of the official program, fixed and without real application, Vat is shown in its traditional form detailing its main aspects (dress, refereeing, ritual, techniques, counter-attacks, tactics), its technical evolutions, as well as its differences, demonstrating why such evolutions occurred. This discipline is completely unknown to the general Western public despite being thousands of years old. The art of Vật is composed of hundreds of techniques and variations. However, the Vật techniques in Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo do not represent the proportion they deserve, only 28 techniques, despite the fact that the Founding Master was a Vật fighter. At Vovinam Integral we have tried to remedy this by adding many traditional Vật techniques, with over a hundred attack techniques (takedowns and projections) making up the overall program. To that we must add all the counter attacks for each takedown and projection technique as well as the defenses once on the ground. All this is complemented by all the techniques of compression, arm and leg locks, strangulation and choking, immobilization and controls, many of which are drawn from Jiu-jitsu, as is already the case in Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo.

Living your life every day, a real struggle If each practitioner is aware that our fighting arts and sports allow us to surpass ourselves and push our limits, each one is also aware that the hardest fight in our life will never be on a ring or a tatami, but it is to be able to face life with its joys and its trials. Each day being a new trial, bringing us sometimes happy and sometimes unhappy days. If our training prepares us well for a fight, it is the fight of life. Indeed, ever y day must be an opportunity to progress and surpass ourselves, not only in our clubs but above all in real life. This is why each practitioner always affirms that our martial arts and combat sports are an art of living in everyday life. Our disciplines must above all enable us to face the trials of everyday life. A true warrior must be able to face all the battles that life offers us: happiness of course, but also illness, pain, loss of loved ones, failures etc.

Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do ife is not linear, so you don’t feel joy all the time. We have to face many trials that will allow us to appreciate even more intensely the good moments. Indeed, if our lives were only happiness without any pain or failure, would we really be happy? If everything is perfect, very quickly one does not appreciate anything anymore and one gets bored. We see this in very rich people who are tired of everything because they can have everything with their money.

Jeet Kune Do

Some people tend to take risks in their lives in order to experience sensations they have never known. They will therefore take drugs, risk their lives to get off the beaten track in order to feel alive. Sensations they never feel because their money deprives them of all trials. We feel that in our practices, if we succeeded in everything we did, we would not enjoy anything anymore. We would certainly stop practicing because we wouldn’t enjoy anything if we succeeded in everything. To taste and savor our success and completion, it is essential to have suffered failures before. Without this, we would not realize how far we have come and the pleasure of looking back at our evolution. Our life is therefore linked to a work on ourselves to improve ourselves every day. This is the true recipe for happiness in life, which consists of never remaining inactive but always wanting to move forward and progress. In doing so, each person discovers their strengths and weaknesses. Our strengths must be nurtured and our weaknesses must be worked on to make them strengths.

Jeet Kune Do Of course, it will take us a lifetime to discover and accept ourselves in spite of our flaws and the bad decisions we have made. In the end, what we learn during our life, no matter how long it is, is to be able to live without regretting the past. We quickly realize that the most important thing is to live the present fully without projecting ourselves into the future or pining for our past. Only the present counts and must be lived intensely. We observe this from more and more practitioners.

Jeet Kune Do They want to get a certificate immediately, even if they don’t deserve it, because for them everything can be bought and they don’t want to follow a long and difficult path. But the real goal in martial arts is to take the time to progress and wait for our teacher to reward us for our work with a diploma or a belt. We learn this patience at school in the small classes when our teacher gives us a good point or a picture to reward our serious work.

Of course, sometimes we will get bad grades or deductions. But what is the purpose of this? It is to teach us to become better with successes and failures. What we need to learn above all is to have the ability to constantly question ourselves and never rest on our laurels. If you stop working, you regress and regression leads to a cascade of failures. It is totally similar in martial arts and combat sports; the one who stops training will unquestionably regress and lose the level he took so long to acquire.

Each age of a practitioner’s life will be a new life lesson. The older we get, the more we lose assets that a young practitioner has, such as physical condition. We must then question ourselves and adapt our training in order to become the best practitioner with a physical condition compensated by other assets such as the sense of anticipation, precision, the wisdom to avoid conflicts, etc. All these qualities developed thanks to our sense of adaptation during our life, will allow us to always progress in spite of the tests of time. Life is therefore a daily struggle that leads us to surpass ourselves, to discover ourselves and to question ourselves. Without this philosophy of life, we will only regress by accepting, for example, our advanced age which discourages too many practitioners who do not accept that they are no longer able to do what they did when they were younger. But the only thing to do is to adapt ourselves and so our life as a practitioner will always be beautiful with failures of course but we will accept ourselves and improve with time. This time that passes and that makes life a constant change.

Jeet Kune Do Time will bring us trials such as illness that we will have to face and overcome. But what a pleasure and satisfaction to have succeeded in healing thanks to our will to live, which is stronger than letting ourselves go by complaining. Complaining will never change anything in our lives, complaining will only make us fall further down, while fighting will make us move forward and overcome all trials. Even if we do not succeed in beating the disease, we will have fought to the end with all our strength. We will have tried everything to live until our last breath. What greater satisfaction can there be than to have stood and fought until the end? There is nothing more beautiful than facing life standing tall, proud and fighting. Our arts must therefore allow us to face everyday life by dealing with whatever may come our way. This is the real courage and not to win titles or other things that will only be ephemeral in the life of any practitioner.

TAICHI CHUAN LEARNING Meditation in motion (*) In or der to grasp the ener getic sense, rhythm and cadence of the centrifugal movement that c h a r a c t e r i z e s Ta i c h i C h u a n , i t ' s advisable to practice the previous positions and sequences from four complementary sensory approaches. First. The fingers are imagined as small empty tubes, from whose ends grains of wheat continuously come out when we move our arms. Our fingertips should feel how the grains escape lightly through them, producing a gentle tingling. The palm of the hand is always full of them, because the fingers "spill" the same amount that the arm provides to the hand. In this way we apprehend the technique, the energetic sense of the movement in blocks, pushes and blows. (*): Normally, meditation techniques are characterized by stillness. However, there are special movements that can induce us to this state, as is the case of Taichi chuan, whose structuring is attributed to the great Taoist master San Fung Chang, of the Ming dynasty. The practice of Taichi focuses on harmonizing the positive (yang) and negative (yin) forces, thus controlling the mind and biopsychophysical energy, and directly accessing the state of meditation (samadhi). Despite the remarkable psychophysical benefits, the way it is currently practiced in China is considered by many Taoists to be a degradation of the primordial movement.

econd. We feel our fingertips as if they had adhered to a sticky mass which, like a piece of chewing gum that never finishes breaking no matter how much you stretch out the sticky filament, forces us to draw movements in the air, leaving intermingled traces of cobwebs of that substance, that bind us to the mass. This escape without escaping from the sticky mass refines the technique and the emotional sense of the movement. Third. Our fingers are like small rubber tubes through which the water flows gently from another larger diameter hose that is our forearm. When the fingertips are directed towards the ground, the water gently trickles down them, generating a liberating feeling of emptiness in the palm of the hand. When, on the other hand, they are aiming to the front or upwards, the natural curvature of the hose (that is, the wrist), added to those of the small rubber tubes (our fingers), hinder the exit of the water. The water, held in part by the curvature and in part by the

position of the hand, bubbles slowly and forcefully against gravity through our fingertips, partially filling the void in the palms of our hands. This watery image, yin par excellence, allows us to give flexibility and rhythm to the movement: letting ourselves go, as the bullfighter does in the centered pass, when he reaches out his hand to caress fluidly the bull's face. Fourth... Our body is as light in weight and ethereal in movement as the very air we breathe. We must try to move as if we were a light breeze of air that glides, weightless and silent, propelled by the undulating movements of our wrists. The movement of the seagull is very suitable to perceive the sensations of this way of working out, which we have to extend to the rest of the movements and sequences. This variant is practiced very well on windy days, if possible on top of a mountain or a high place in the environment, facing the direction of the wind. An experienced practitioner must work with the deepest and subtlest sensations that are generated in these four procedures, adapting them to the circumstances of the moment and to the phases, rhythms and cadences of the sequence. Always aware that they have to help us, not to strengthen, but to break our inhibitions and psychophysical imbalances. A practitioner with a tendency to move too slowly should not be given the option to accentuate his or her pathology, allowing the excessively slow pace that it demands. It is necessary for the person to learn to work with fast and

very sinuous actions, accurately marking the bounces between them, as well as the rotation and contraction movements performed by the pelvis while practicing. When his or her legs can feel comfortable in this new psychophysical rhythm, antagonistic to their own, the person will be able to move in a healthy slowness. Obviously, with a hyperkinetic and anxious person, the work has to be planned in reverse. Taichi allows and must be practiced in the three natural rhythms: fast, slow and intermediate. Most of us, due to our pathologies, are dominated by one or the other extreme. Only the awakening of the complementary antagonist will place us in the center, allowing us to approach the extremes according to our own will and need, and not due to other types of conditioning. A warrior dance, a synthesis, unfortunately partial, of fruit and seed harvesting movements, Taichi Chuan must be practiced internally feeling how our Ki, in a fluid and gentle way, focuses on the area of our arm or leg that would hypothetically come into contact with an imaginary opponent.

The Hagumo and their influence on society According to the most experienced masters, since the Hagumo wer e mixed with Japanese culture, and later, in the 20th century, with other cultures, including those from the West, the way of moving in the midst of society became more evident. Speculations aside - facts is what interests us -, there were not a few interlocutors who claimed that the Hagumo were physically present in many of the important stages of the world transformation, as we know it today. It may be that fr om such events, or due to the countless ways of observation carried out, the understanding of historical facts and deeds has turned out to be the hardest point of connection between past and present. Perhaps the great difficulty lies at the moment in which an attempt is made to isolate any phenomenon in relation to the manifestation of the H a g u m o i n t h e 2 0 t h c e n t u r y. Everything is connected. Whatever its nature, the Hagumo believe that the universe is like a "spider web". Let's see some of their observations and follow-ups:

Japanese Tradition

- EREDENA GINKE SHIE - KNOWLEDGE EQUALS GOLD. For the Hagumo, life always acts everywhere according to the same principles. If in the world we know, gold (money) has always been (and increasingly is) the propelling spring that moves the media and the people, whatever the attitude that man wants to assume today (for better or for worse), knowledge - whatever it may be - is what separates him from the great mass. - NENKOMO NA SHIE SHIMO - A SMALL MIND IS STILL A CHILD. Here we can see the idea that every gesture that expresses progress must be proportional to what is sought. You can’t expect to find anything big with a small and still inexperienced mind. Therefore, Hagumo people lived in the internal and external hierarchy, respecting their limits. They believed that a good attitude was not the result of the external intervention of a transcendent principle that from nothing created everything at once. Everything arises and ends in us. - GORO NA KORYO EKYO - LITTLE BY LITTLE (SPIRITUALLY) YOU FIND MUCH. Consistency and discipline, especially for elder Hagumo people, represented a phenomenal reality that changes patterns and offers an opening for successful results. They believed in the permanent transgression, in the internal force that overcomes the transitory and obsolete forms; they sought to turn the present into real substance. - FUKOSA NA KAKAIDEMO - THE VALUE OF ONE IS IMPORTANT TO ALL. It has always been thought that men and social classes occupy a position of authority in history that they claim for themselves, but that in reality it is depersonalized and subsists and has value only as a function. - GUNHAW NA URAGIRI - THE TRUTH, MADE FOR OWN USE AND CONSUMPTION, IS INVERTED. They follow the patter n that force is in the whole, in cooperation. - BUNTO NA KAESHIO SAO - FORCE IS ALWAYS READY TO STRIKE BACK WHOEVER USES IT. So for the Hagumo, power has no other defense than a major force, a force that transcends the moment, life. If you don’t have such force, you’re lost. It is clearly seen that Hagumo's reflection on life transcended the “comings and goings” of men; they observed the vital process as a continuous ebb and flow, a chain of redemptive struggles, amazing falls and incredible ascents. For them, all this was not fortune, nor coincidence. It was the function, the logic of life. Forms, means, dimensions changed.

Japanese Tradition

As for businesses, there were two ways to carry them out: - Saotogosu: business done with foreigners - outsiders. - Saotagosu: business done among the Hagumo - insiders. In turn, this last way was divided into: - Saokagosu: among the heads or elder people of each family. - Saokogosu: among normal people.

Japanese Tradition

For the Hagumo, life in society, especially internal life, represents a good education received and transmitted. In general, it mirrors its predecessors (so be careful!). Let's look at some examples: - Sumiote: It’s customary to apologize for the inconvenience they can cause someone. There are dozens of expressions to apologize, depending on the context. - Kasade: In formal situations, the Hagumo, like the Japanese, sit in a position called seiza, which some Westerners find difficult to maintain for long. If it's too hard for you, apologize to an important person and cross your legs in front of yourself, people will understand. - Goe: The body reflects the way you take care of your spirit. Therefore, it must always be clean and tidy. It is customary to stay away when you have a cold or allergy. It is considered impolite to blow your nose in public, or even to discuss sweat or any aspect of hygiene. People go to the bathroom to get organized. - Taro: Food, or the moment of eating, represents part of the mixed Japanese culture. Each type of Japanese cuisine has its own rules of etiquette. For example, "nigiri sushi" should be dipped on the fish side. Otherwise, the rice falls into the shoyu and may look unsightly. - Shigeru: For Hagumo people, it is important to respectfully use the name of the person at all times in an approach. The pronouns used for "you" (“ete”, in Rangu-go or Shizen-go) can be considered rude. If you are already very familiar with the person (and this usually takes time), you can address them using their last name, followed by the title "-san" ("un", en Rangu-go or Shizen-go). On rare occasions it is better to use "sama" ("a", in Rangu-go or Shizen-go), which is more formal, but this usually only applies if you are talking to a customer in a business situation. Various details can be included here to highlight the cultural side of Hagumo. On the other hand, they see each gesture as the origin of their education. So let's look at some examples and precautions: - Do not use your fingers, feet or "hashi" (chopsticks) to point at people. If you have to indicate an object or a direction to someone, move your fingers palm down, or use your hand with the fingers together and the thumb folded over the palm. - Avoid expressing your opinion clearly or directly. The Hagumo, like the Japanese, have what they call "honne tatemae" (public opinion). They will almost always express the latter in most situations so as not to disturb the harmony of the group. This is a flexible rule and consists of agreeing with the people around you as much as possible. This is why the Japanese are not so good at discussing serious issues in public (including media). "Honne" is what you really think but you don’t say openly, or you just talk to your closest friends or family (true opinion). - Avoid interrupting people while they are talking or thinking of an answer. Brief periods of silence in the middle of a conversation or discussion should not bother you. - Avoid staring at another person (including men, and especially women). - It is usual, as a token of gratitude (“sarei”), or on special occasions, to give money. The rule says that you must always use a suitable envelope for it. - In gatherings where there is food, chopsticks should not be stuck vertically into a bowl of rice, as this is only used in funeral ceremonies. - Do not pass food to another person with your chopsticks. - You are welcome to fill (or refill) the glasses of those around you, and they should do the same with you. If you want to fill your own glass, start by serving others and serve yourself last. If you don't want to drink any more, don't empty your glass.

Signals and recognition Since the Middle Ages, Hagumo people knew and recognized each other through signs and repeated movements. As they advanced and mixed with societies, they perfected their personal ways of identification and, therefore, of protection.

In the 20th century, various masters who emigrated to the West organized themselves and, in the mid-1960s, structured signs that went beyond purely bodily gestures. Signatures, for example, included three important symbols that represented three villages and that somehow helped many people to recognize and meet other Hagumo in the midst of their work activities. The recognitions and identifications were divided into: - Shiemaru: identification. - Kokumaru: Confirmation. - Butsune: repeated gestures. - Butsugoe: body gestures. - Kotomaru: words (questions and answers). - Nakimaru: signs, signatures, ways of holding the Hashi, ways of sitting, etc. Until 1996, it was customary for at least two countries to meet once a year. The idea was to update and strengthen links and commitments. In addition, through the exchange of knowledge and information - a custom that has been repeated since the Middle Ages (Kamuegu) -, they restructured their activities.

Japanese Tradition

The description of the internal development of the groups, whether in Brazil or in other countries, was imposed by their own intimate force, anticipating that of external events. In the past, it was common for doubt to permeate and protect the Hagumo class. The external facts of Hagumo's reality, at least that lived in the 20th century, do not usually have the substantial meaning of internal experiences. Facts and works whose truths are not really known in depth, abound. On the other hand, they were taught from childhood that they should obey, in general, only minimal and close causalities. Superficial ones, if you can say so, were worked on adversaries as a form of "Aanozoku" (a kind of "making them miss the north"). Therefore, the Hagumo never allowed themselves to become myths. The idea was that of not attracting people attention. Let’s look at these practices in the Middle Ages:

Japanese Tradition

DIFFERENT INTERNAL WAYS *Examples of some paths that were created as a strategic way to keep the enemy at a distance. - Odoke Mono - The clown face: An ancient form used to camouflage from the enemy. Shiniyuki Sensei explained that, at that time, Japan was experiencing a time of constant wars and battles, where the most organized army won. Many spies entered the villages and stayed for several years, but they only knew the clown’s face, taking information from disorganized rebels without supplies. - Sotira Gunhaw - The face of truth: The true face is very different from what the leaders show. The inner part or the hidden face portrays the secret shown as the only means of survival. We could say that the face of truth would be the other side of the door that opens and closes at the same time. - Shigekumo - The speech of the spider: Throughout their childhood, the "Shimo" or children were prepared to recognize their communicative facets in humans. Shigekumo, most of the time, was used to get to know the inside of people who were trapped in a network of strategies and verbal traps. - Kamio sotira - Any path: a term that was used within the villages as a way to designate various paths to the enemy who was about to infiltrate somewhere. When what is heard is not what it seems, it brings about the fact that: what is, becomes not being, and what is not, becomes being. Therefore, Kamio sotira is some way found to make the enemy doubt or never show him our true face or identity. - Osao - Small person: A term meant to designate someone as small or unimportant. Osao, at the same time, meant that the person who was there was not who they thought he was, he was small and worthless. - Na gunhawritsu gun haw - The real truth: This was one of the strategies, among many of them, that were used when divulging a real secret, to find the best way to protect it. Thus, many times, the Enemy was told the true aspects of something in an exaggerated way and with a self-advanced tone, highlighting (on purpose) aspects that would suggest and caused a lack of credibility, in order to arouse the discredit and disinterest of the enemy. - Jioko gunhaw - The reverse truth, however, it was a type of thought used when, in order to protect someone, or even something important, the individual used dissimulation, accepting provocations and belittling himself before the adversary so that he would feel satisfied with the small result obtained and give up continuing with his attacks. In the 20th century, they tried to teach young people not to fall into one of the errors of the collective principle: the reduction of man to a machine and a number. They saw, according to the masters, that the world was changing and that nothing and no one would be immune to its transformations. So it was. In the late 1990s, the Hagumo no longer met or continued their activities. In young people, irresponsibility, servitude, gave way to the life of capital and its technologies. Nobody wanted to learn the customs or traditions. Hagumo people then faced unevenness of all kinds, from the stimulation of interest to the freedom of individual initiative. External skills (job search, opportunities...) were the only thing that fostered the maintenance of an internal society that self-regulated and helped each other. The masters grew old, and with them, at this time, all areas of Hagumo culture succumbed to modernity. It was understood that the new social body had to be plastic, adaptable, multifaceted, with compensated parts, with replaceable elements.

Muay Thai legend

His nickname was Golden Leg, because of the deadly efficiency of his roundhouse kick. His overpowering Tae Ken Ko (neck swing kick) made him climb speedily the top ten ranking of Rajadamnern Stadium. His fighting style was characterized by a clever combination of roundhouse kicks (middle, high or low) and fearsome elbow attacks. In fact, he used a vicious elbow blow to the chin to defeat Huasai Sittiboonlert in their memorable fight on April 5, 1974. His Tae Wiang (swing kick) was so effective that, together with the famous champion Apidej, one the greatest fighters of the older generation, it is Pud Pad Noi whose name could be mentioned alongside the best kickers of all-time.

mglin Pon (Pud Pad Noi’s real name) started his fighting career in his home province (Khonnkaen) and thanks to his ability in using the Muay Thai swing kick he quickly made a name for himself. In the end, he became champion in 3 different weight divisions, fighting more than 100 times. He fought with “guts and style” and for that he was loved by the fans. However, many observers stated that his real secret was his flawless ability in using the Muay Thai weapon par excellence, the Tae Wiang. I consider myself extremely lucky to have met him in the early 90’s and I will always be grateful to him for having shared his immense fighting skill with me. I remember that he always told me to focus my training on the Middle Kick (Tae Lam Tua) because that was the bedrock of all other Muay Thai kicks. In fact, even after his retirement from competitions, he was still in a very good shape because he never stopped practicing swing kicks on the heavy bag and on the Thai Pads. He didn’t like to grapple with opponents because that kind of close range fighting would deprive him of precious energies that he would prefer to use for fighting at long distance (kicking range). He taught me how to cope with an adversary who was skilled enough to close the distance and try to grapple: he simply had developed a few basic strategies to anticipate the attempted neck holds with short knee blows immediately followed by cutting elbow blows to the head. The preferred targets for his elbow strike were the corner of the chin or the temple and the result, when the blow connected, was often a dramatic knock out. If the opponent didn’t go down for the count he most often stepped back to get out of range of Pud Pad Noi’s fearsome elbow attacks. As a result, he found himself again at kicking range that is where our hero wanted him to be, in the first place.

Arjan Marco de Cesaris The Champion insisted so much on training the Roundhouse Kick simply because he considered it the most important weapon in a thai boxer’s arsenal. In fact, in Muay Thai circles, the Tae Wiang is considered the King of kicks. A seemingly instinctive technique actually full of intricacies, if you search for a perfect execution. When he taught me to execute a proper swing kick, Pud Pad Noi had to correct the way I used to do it many times before my technique started to look like a real Muay Thai kick. In fact, this maneuver is typically Thai and shouldn’t be confused with other similar (but profoundly different) kicks coming from other sources (Chinese, Korean, Japanese). The real Thai Roundhouse kick is based upon specific principles that, as the story goes, were inspired by the way elephants swing their relaxed trunk by turning their heads with force. The trunk keeps relaxed but nevertheless is capable of striking with great power when it impacts against the target. This image was very common for Thai people and very clear in the minds of the unknown inventors of this technique.

The technical features of Tae Wiang are as follows: 1. It is based upon several laws of physics (Newton’s 3rd law, kinetic energy, friction, inertia): - Newton's third law states that when two bodies interact, they apply forces to one another that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. The third law is also known as the law of action and reaction. In a properly executed Tae Wiang, the forefoot of the standing leg presses on the ground exerting downward force and receiving equal energy in opposite direction (upwards). This downward push must be the initial action of the whole kick, all of the times (see line A in the image). This linear energy has to be immediately converted into circular motion thanks to the coordinated turn of the standing foot and the standing leg (which is kept straight) followed by the hips of the kicker (see number 1 and 2 in the image). - Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by an object in motion. Kinetic energy is directly proportional to the mass of the object and to the square of its velocity. The formula is as follows: KE = 1/2 m v2. All attacks in Muay

Given the body mass of the kicker, the faster his hips turn the more Kinetic Energy will be expressed by the kicking leg. An explosive hip rotation is mandatory in order to swing the leg around similarly to a baseball player (hitter) that powerfully swings his bat to hit the ball.

explosively, the Muay Thai kicker has to start his motion from the standing foot that must swivel around. In order to do that as fast as possible, his foot must lessen the friction on the ground (the resisting force) by keeping the smallest possible surface in contact with the floor. Only the forefoot should be in contact with the ground during all the phases of the round kick (going forward and coming back to base).

Therefore, if your round kick misses, the inertia of your leg (and body) will tend to keep you spinning around and as a consequence expose several weak points to a possible counterattack. In order to compensate this disadvantage, the kicker has to apply one of the many possible counter-measures to a missed swing kick (see point 4). 2. The Thai swing kick typically employs a durable body weapon (the shin bone) that can be made steel-hard thanks to specific impact training routines (Pud Pad Noi is a great example of that). Shin condition is one of the most debated aspects of Muay Thai training. Pud Pad Noi’s left shinbone was famous for being much thicker and harder than a “normal” man’s. Whenever I asked him about his conditioning routines, he candidly answered that he just had been kicking using his shins for most of his life. No special potion nor hard-core conditioning procedure (rolling glass bottles over his shins or battering them with sticks or hammers) was part of his training regimen. Just many, many rounds of heavy bag work and thai pads, on a daily basis. 3. This kick can be used to attack various targets at low, middle or high level. Tae Wiang is a mighty weapon that is able to inflict damage to almost any area of the opponent’s body, in the front, side or back. If a Thai swing kicks connects with the ribcage it can shatter the bones easily. If the shin or instep hits the neck full-force it can cause a sudden drop of the opponent, that will most probably be knocked out. The low roundhouse kick to the inner or outer thigh is a trademark of Muay Thai that many a styles adopted for its unquestionable efficiency. A swing kick to the back of the neck, to the spine or to the kidneys is a fierce attack, banned in most combat sports but not in Muay Thai. 4. It is wise not to employ a Tae Wiang directly, unless when it is applied on an already stunned opponent. In fact, all good trainers teach their boxers to prepare the swing kick with a punch or foot jab to pave the way to the real attack. For example, a quick jab to the eyes can be followed by a low roundhouse kick to the thigh. Another typical opening technique for the swing kick is the straight body kick. In fact, this was one of the favourite combinations of Pud Pad Noi that he taught me since lesson one. Usually, the front leg is employed to deliver a straight kick to the solar plexus or the lower abdomen. This sort of foot-jab is quickly followed by a Tae Lam Tua or, even better, Tae Ken Ko. Pud Pad Noi used this combination over and over again in his fights and many an opponent can attest its terrible efficiency. 5. In the heat of the battle, when both fighters are constantly moving around, sidestepping and dodging, it is possible that a swing kick is detected before it lands and consequently evaded. If the roundhouse kick misses, one has to develop a series of follow-up maneuvers (elbow strikes,

Arjan Marco de Cesaris kicks, punches) to avoid being countered by the opponent. For example, one of the preferred follow-up techniques in case of a missed high swing kick is a spinning back elbow strike or Sok Glab Lang. Without putting a stopper in the body spin, the kicker swings the elbow opposite to the kicking leg (left elbow for a right kick and vice versa) aiming at the opponent’s side of the head. The best targets for this elbow blow are the temples or jaw. Similarly, when the high kick misses and both the kicker and the opponent manage to keep a distance, the spin is to be continued but the striking arm must be kept stretched instead of bent. As a result the forearm or the closed fist (back or bottom of hand) of the kicker will impact against the head of the opponent. This very powerful spinning punch is called Mahd Glab Lang. In a third possible situation, after a missed Tae Wiang (low, middle or high) the two fighters find themselves at a long distance. This is usually due to a quick backward step of the defender who, instead of evading the kick by bending his upper body back, chooses to retreat. In this case, the best follow up is a spinning straight back kick (Tiip Glab Lang). Just like the first two counter-measures applied at short and middle distance, the kicker, after missing with his attack, shall keep on turning and, using the energy of the body spin, shall unleash a spinning straight back kick aimed at the opponent’s midsection. The preferred targets for the follow-up kick are the liver and the solar plexus: the consequent knock down is almost sure and is usually accompanied by excruciating pain due to the sensitivity of these two weak points.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu An exclusive interview with Demetrio Vacirca Budo International: Hello Demetrio! Thank you for taking time today so that this interview with you can take place. It is certainly interesting for our readers to learn how you have been doing in the last few years. With your brother Franco, you have produced several instructional videos on Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Budo International. How was it for you to be in front of the camera again? Demetrio: Thank you very much for letting me do this interview, I feel honored. In the last few years, that is, since the birth of my daughter and that of my son, a lot has changed in my life. I have taken my role as a father very much to heart and this fills me with happiness. Professionally, I have been working in the social sector for many years, as a cantonal employee in the field of children, youth, and families.

Training, traveling to promote Gracie Jiu-Jitsu took a back seat to my family enrichment and responsibilities. I set other priorities for myself. Now and then I participated in Franco's workshops to support him - just like in the good old days. Nevertheless, this “time out” far away from Jiu-Jitsu was a good time. I was able to review everything Franco and I had experienced so far and observe what had changed over the years. It became clear to me how much work and heart blood we invested for the GBJJ and earlier for the JKD Kali and Muay Thai and still invest for the GBJJ today. The offer of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA and much more. Is littered nowadays - madness! At our time, when we started in the 90s, we were exotic! The instructional videos are a very big product of Franco and me, we have given our heart and soul and are proud of it. For me a valuable experience! To be able to experience this again makes me very happy. To be back on the mat with Franco on a regular basis is cool and fun. That is the greatest thing for me! Neither of us has forgotten how to do it ... (laughs)! I was also very happy to see Alfredo Tucci again, after many years. A meeting that continues in a very friendly and sincere way.

Budo International: Can you tell a little bit about what brought you to martial arts? Demetrio: With pleasure. Well, that's easy: through my brother Franco. At the age of about 10 it grabbed me because he kept trying new techniques on me. That was then with Wing Chun, later came JKD / Kali, Muay Thai and then of course the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The enthusiasm, the devotion that my brother lives and lives out for the martial arts, I could never keep up, there I was always one or two steps behind. It was important for me to be at his side.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu Budo International: Is there anything that you see differently in Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu than in the other martial arts you train? What has put you over the top in GBJJ that you feel most comfortable there? Demetrio: Franco started martial arts when he was six years old. My time began around the age of 10. I trained with Franco Wing Chun, being here more his "dummy" (laughs). Together with Franco I started when JKD / Kali / Muay Thai started, in the 80s. We trained and traveled a lot. Within a short time, we taught abroad and in Switzerland and always had renowned teachers from the JKD scene as guests with us. With the GBJJ then came a whole new time, which replaced the JKD. In the 90s, I met GBJJ through my brother. A new world opened for me. I was convinced by the simplicity of the techniques, their applications and functionality in GBJJ. With the minimum, get the maximum out, completely without exchange of blows I could control my “opponent”, regardless of his size and weight. Fascinating! I was able to twist, turn, and successfully break free and take control in a variety of situations. I had not experienced that before.

Vacirca Brothers Budo International: You also made an instructional video with Budo International, which was really an absolute novelty at that time: BJJ Conditioning! How much do you need even today, in your classes or for your training? Demetrio: (Smiles)... When we were in Brazil, I encountered the “animal moves” and this fascinated me. Yoga and artistic gymnastics always fascinated me, so I thought, WOW, how cool is this!!! The “BJJ Conditioning” is a collection of my own experiences, and self-created sequences, which I had compiled and had proven in the warm-up training. The warm-up training should tie in with the technical part of the lesson, that was my thinking at the time. So, no jumping jacks if I can't “apply” them at all. Today, I use the same techniques and sequences, and apply them to the kids in school sports.

“Carley Gracie is a great master, a man of heart, and a man who has done a lot for the GJJ today. He has paved the way for the USA, and for the rest of the continents. He is a Grandmaster, and he has an immense knowledge that should not be withheld from our latitudes. I see the collaboration with Mestre Carley Gracie as Vacirca Brothers, as a gift of life. We are honored to be able to represent him.” Budo International: You have also taken care of your family in the past years. Today you are a proud father of two beautiful children in a happy marriage, with a great wife..., but what about martial arts and GBJJ? Demetrio: Thank you that is so! My wife has always supported me and been there for me, I am grateful for that. Since becoming a father, I don't have as much time for GBJJ or martial arts in general. In life it is like with children: It's all phases. I had a long martial arts phase and now my focus is on the family. Well, my job also takes up a lot of my time...! The GBJJ is still very important to me today. The martial arts continue to interest me, and I always keep an open mind. There is a lot of “stuff” on social media, but I don't really follow it. I'm just a minimalist. Today, I take care of promoting GBJJ on a small scale, in school sports. Since 2019, I've been able to offer a few classes, and when I first signed up, I had 20 kids with me right away! When time allows, I train with my brother Franco, participate now and then in workshops / seminars of him, but this is not so often. Franco and I live a bit far apart. And I must manage my times well with family, work, and hobby (grins).

Vacirca Brothers Budo International: Which teachers have influenced you the most and with which ones would you have liked to spend a few more hours in training? Demetrio: My biggest idol and mentor is my brother Franco! When someone asks me, who was your teacher in the JKD or in the GBJJ? Then I answer with Franco. Of course, I have met prestigious teachers throughout the years, but in the end, my brother taught me everything. There is one exception: Ajarn Chai Sirisute he is in my eyes the best Muay Thai teacher ever and from him I learned a lot. I still pass on his knowledge today. In GBJJ I was always fascinated by Rickson Gracie. I would have liked to take a few more lessons. Budo International: How important is or was the BJJ competition for you? And do you think that students should also participate in competitions? Demetrio: The competition was never important to me personally. Yes, the one or other time I participated, but is not worth mentioning. It was enough for me to let off steam in the dojo. The biggest fight I always had was with myself. For the students who want it, I see it as a valuable experience. But it doesn't have to be. In the end, the question is: Why am I training? And what do I want to achieve, what is important to ME? That's something everyone must decide for themselves. My son, for example, goes to karate, but he doesn't want to participate in kumite. That's fine, he decides what's important to him. My daughter plays soccer, she decides if she wants to continue in professional sports or not. Budo International: In BJJ, meanwhile, like two different “schools” have emerged. One with Gi/Kimono, the other without Gi (or No-Gi). How do you see that? Demetrio: It's nice to see that BJJ has developed in many directions. I'm more the classic type and No-Gi was OK for me when I was sweating under the Gi at 30 C in the summer and could hardly breathe (laughs). Again, I think everyone should do what they like. Do you love No-Gi, then No-Gi, with Gi - then with Gi, both, then both. Combine, try out and decide for yourself what you like.

Vacirca Brothers Budo International: Do you follow the MMA scene? What do you think about MMA today? Demetrio: I thought this question was coming.... Well, honestly, I don't really follow the MMA scene. MMA belongs to a “new” and expanded division of Vale Tudo, UFC, BJJ, etc. and it has changed a lot in recent years. What I think of MMA today I can’t say, because I just do not follow it. GBJJ has always been important to me. MMA is currently part of a trend. Who knows what will come next? It remains exciting. Budo International: The Vacirca Brothers have decided to expand in Europe together with Grandmaster Carley Gracie. How did you experience Mestre Carley? Demetrio: Carley Gracie is a great master, a man of heart, and a man who has done a lot for the GJJ today. He has paved the way for the USA, and for the rest of the continents. He is a Grandmaster, and he has an immense knowledge that should not be withheld from our latitudes. I see the collaboration with Mestre Carley Gracie as Vacirca Brothers, as a gift of life. We are honored to be able to represent him. I hope that we can meet again soon. Budo International: How are you today during the Covid pandemic? What is your life and training like? Demetrio: The topic itself concer ns me sometimes more, sometimes less. Basically, I feel good, and I exercise almost every day at home. Or I'm out in nature with my family and my dog. Hiking, always out in the fresh air what could be better than the Swiss mountains!

Budo International: Despite the pandemic, you and your brother filmed some “Alternative Lessons” that can be seen on your YouTube channel. How was this experience for you? Demetrio: The “Alter native Lessons” were once again a great idea of my brother! I had a lot of fun with it, and we will continue it. I don't talk more about it, but it could become more then.... The feedback has been positive, and I think we've done a great job so far.

Budo International: ...and finally, we want to know if you are already preparing for the “Gracie Advanced”? Demetrio: Logical!! I've been working on my fitness every day since we got back from Spain, and I hope that my operated knee doesn't play any tricks. For the “Gracie Intermediate” I already had to bite my teeth a bit, the surgery was just at the end of August 2021 and in December 2021 we shot. So, you see, and this is my motto, giving up is not an option! Next time I'll take my brother Franco in a bit more of a headlock (laughs). I'm really looking forward to it! Budo International: Anything else you want to tell our readers? Demetrio: Never forget where you come from and who accompanied you on your path. Remember to always test and question your teachers. Keep an open mind and be ready to get back up after every setback. We meet people throughout our lives, some will leave something in us, others just move on. It is not the medals, trophies or titles that make a good teacher, but his character and what he teaches you; again, test and question. And finally: Stay true to yourself. Martial Arts are ancient disciplines. Whatever culture you look at, in Europe, Asia, America, in fact on every continent, you will find traditional methods of fighting and warfare that are as old as humanity itself. The original use and benefit of formalized fighting disciplines were primarily meant for military purposes. However, the goals of why and for what Martial Arts are practiced, trained and preserved, have changed over the centuries, The famous martial arts researcher Don Draeger, points out in his work "Modern Bujutsu & Budo": "...the intrinsic nature of classical martial arts is manifested in its 3 reference points: 1. Fighting 2. Discipline 3. Morals. Reforms forced from abroad some hundred years ago changed the order of these reference points as follows: 1. Discipline. 2 Morals. 3 Combat applications and aesthetic forms of movement…” These new styles (Judo, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, etc.), which now can be found everywhere after these reforms, and are now widespread and well-known in the West, where they generally enjoy great popularity. Some of these new disciplines have put a new emphasis on competition (Kumite, Randori) and have thus become accepted new sports, so much so that they can even be found and admired at the Olympic Games today. Some methods from the Southeast Asian region (Philippine Kali and Indonesian Silat) once served, like Japanese Martial Arts, for use on the battlefield. However, today they are increasingly used as vehicles for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self-improvement. This means that, at a practical level, the implementation of these old methods are finding new uses. Instead of using them just to fight off an attacker, Martial Arts training is used to defeat oneself. Mastering yourself to be something you are not (yet) but aspire to be, is a high resolution. It means to see in yourself what there is not yet, but there may be in the future.

The goals may be different. For some, it will be achieving a better level of overall fitness and physical well-being. For others, it will be developing greater concentration and mental resistance. True Martial Arts training gives you a sense of authenticity in the things you seek and wish to accomplish. The ability to physically protect yourself from attacks, for example, fosters self-responsibility and the understanding that true help can only come from within and is something you initiate yourself. Respect and discipline in Martial Arts provide a tool to build your own character and keep improving day by day ... These “new” goals introduce a modern generation of students to the world of Martial Arts. Realizing that physical training is a tool to achieve other goals and abilities brings new value and meaning to the daily practice of Martial Arts. New students, who previously saw “only” the physical benefits of these disciplines, now realize that kicks and punches are just the tip of the iceberg. No other discipline can so powerfully unite so many things and offer them to the dedicated student. Everything arises from a previous substratum, from something that previously existed, and it is continually maturing and changing, and when it stops doing so, it disappears.”

Almost all are independent of each other, or make up small organizations that rely on a sifu, and that perform an interesting work for the conservation of classical Chinese Wing Chun.”

Sifu Salvador Sánchez “A nun, Ng Mui, is credited with creating various styles. She seems to have been a scholar of ‘soft’ styles, specifically the Weng Chun Bac Hoc style (White Crane style of Weng Chun Weng Chun is a district in the Fukien region). Legend has it that Ng Mui was inspired to create what was later called ‘WingTsun’ by watching the fight between a crane and a fox. Personally, the idea that just by looking for a few seconds at a couple of animals fighting, you can ‘invent’ something as sophisticated as WingTsun seems implausible to me.”

“In the late 1970s, Grandmaster Kernspecht brought WingTsun to Europe. Perhaps some master of that unknown system previously had tried to introduce it in Europe, but I don’t think there’s any doubt about it: K. R. Kernspecht introduced WingTsun in Europe with a force that cannot be compared to anybody else. I would even say to no other system.”
