From the world’s rarest palm to the world’s tastiest fruit, our Asian Rainforest and Aquatic Garden feature some of the most incredible plants from across the globe. A new water feature will greet you as you enter the new exhibits, and visit our family of koi as they swim beneath a new garden bridge. Bamboo of every color brings you deep into the grass forests of China. Buddha will welcome you as you pass the new decorative Tea House, and tropical pitcher plants, found in the high mountains of Malaysia, will take you to the tops of the tropical jungle. Walking through the new moon gate and under the fronds of the White Backed Palm immerse you in one of the most diverse and botanically significant regions on our planet. Over the past several months, we have been collecting plants that represent the incredible range of botanical life found in an Asian Rainforest. Expanding the diversity of our existing collection, we help to ensure survival of rare and unusual species often threatened in their natural habitat. Learn all about the Asian Rainforest and see plants you can’t see anywhere else under one dome. We are excited to share with you two new exhibits that will delight visitors for generations to come! This project would not have been possible without the support of Erie County, Erie County Legislators, Erie County Executive Mark Polencarz, our board of directors, donors, members, visitors, staff and volunteers. Thank you for making this dream a reality! The new exhibits will open Saturday, January 14 and are included with our regular admission fees. Please visit us soon to enjoy the outstanding new exhibits!

Many clients ask us: “How do I make my event unique?” Our answer: “Simply having an event at the Botanical Gardens is unique.”

There is a lot to do! You may train as a horticulture volunteer and work inside and outside the greenhouses. Or your choice may be to help maintain our facilities with carpentry, electrical, and maintenance work. Maybe you would prefer administrative support and computer tasks. Or you may be tempted to work in the Gift Shop. Training as a docent means you would provide hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Finally, there are volunteers that help with special events and weddings. Branch out, turn over a new leaf. Join our Volunteer Family!

A private tour of the Botanical Gardens followed. Guests were taken through the conservatory where they learned about our fascinating plant collection, along with a brief history. To end the evening, a delicious dinner catered by Buffalo’s Best Grill & Catering, was waiting for them once the tour had finished. The employees at Comfort Zone Café had a blast partaking in everything that was available to them! Fun activities can be added on to any event. Make-it, Take-it programs are a great way to get guests involved. Tours are always fun with our excellent docents, and guests will leave the Botanical Gardens with a plethora of plant knowledge. Gardening Tip Start composting now! Compost, which is really nothing more than decayed plant matter, is a great addition to your garden soil. Plant material breaks down more quickly in hot weather, but even if the weather is cold, start accumulating material. You can compost kitchen scraps such as fruit peels, vegetable peels and coffee grounds - along with the paper filter. You can also add shredded leaves and even newspaper and bills.
