MacArthur.
Thanks to my ota t,.-Uel frl""a Charlie Bird, of Stockton, California, for the above words of the General, extracted from one of his inspiring declarations. ft makes a priceless addition to a MacArthur scrapbook.
Such almost sublime eloguence stems from more than simply a brilliant mind; it must be founded in a soul steeped in a mighty spirituality. Witness his words when he made his famous landing at Leyte: "By the grace of Almighty God, our forces stand again on Philippine soil. The guidance of divine God points the way. Follow His name to the holy grail of righteous victory."
And witness further the high quality of the man when, in one of his communiques, he wrote: "To the weeping mothers of the dead I can only say that the sacrifice and halo of Jesus of Nazareth has descended upon their sons, and God will take them unto *Himself."
I was thrilled by the letter from a mother printed in one of the newspapers recently, which said: "The only crime of this man was that he could not stomach in silence the aimless slaughter of American young in Korea over which he was ordered to preside."
The entire nation enthusiastically took up the words of the old refrain with which MacArthur concluded his immortal oration to the Congress. Within fifteen minutes after his speech ended, men were rushing madly in every direction to .get hold of the old song. And within but a few days it was coming frequently over the air waves from hastily made records. * *
"Old soldiers never die; they just fade ?waf ," is now as well known to the American public as "Yankee Doodle"
or "Dixie"; and so it ghall undoubtedly remain. Bruce Russell, cartoonist for the Los Angeles Times, Eoon aPpeared with a most impressive picture on the cditorial page of that paper. It showed thc white crosaea and helmets of a soldier burying ground, with thc title: "Young soldiers die, and mothers fade away." *
Another enthusiastic scramble by the publicity pcople followed immediately after thc General concluded his speech; almost before the echoes had died away. It was to get the speech before the public. It was printed in a thousand different shapes and ways, in newspapers, magazines, and booklets. Many of the latter are scrapbook pieces, with the oration beautifully typed and printed. Millions of such found immediate distribution, and, as they appeared, most of the publishers were swamped with demands for extra copies.
A whole string of phonograph records were made by various companies, and within three days after he made the speech, millions of Americans throughout the land were sitting at home and thrilling to the words and voice that had over night become world famous. Nothing like it had ever happened before in history.
OUR EDITORIAL ON MACARTHUR'S ORATION IN OUR MAY FIRST ISSUE BROUGHT THE GREATEST FLOOD OF PRAISE IN THE HISTORY OF OUR VAGABOND EDITORIALS.
As a matter of fact the entire drama was record smashing. Never before in history was an oration delivered under such conditions. The time, the place, the tense situation, and not only a great nation but the entire world hanging on his words, made the MacArthur speech extremely critical and dramatic. What would he say? How would he deport himself? What defense would he muster for his military and political convictions? Would he succeed or fail in justifying himself? Or would his critics find food for satisfaction in*this critical situation?
Safe it is to declare that not even his most enthusiastic supporters and admirers ever hoped or dreamed of the glory he was to win for himself in this vital public utterance. With one of the great orations of history rolling from his lips-grand thoughts, grand words, magnificent eloquence-everyone knew as he stepped down from the platform that one of the highlights in all the history of the United States had just been written by this remarkable man.

Thereos a $rand new upsur$e of interest in lurnber produets; and the reeently forrned lVoodwork Institute is pushiog it hard.
An accelerated trend in wood-something of a renascenee-started irr Chicago a year agoo when the Arnerican Wood Window Institute was organized. A strong program of promotion was put into effect; and thatts when things began to roll.
We, in California, are now earrying the ball with our statewide organizatiol-pqsfl1ryork fnetitute of California. Obviously every rnember is selfishly inter. ested in more widespread and more intelligent uses of wood. That is the purpose of this non.profit organization-composed of manufacturers of lumber., doors, windows, millwork and allied produets.
Lumber and wood products are your bread and butter. Of course you earry other things. Why not? Just the same you are a lumberman. Your chief interest and primary business is lumber and lumber products. You know lumber and so you know how to advise whereo when and how to use it to best advantage, when lumber is obviously the material for the job.
This is your eampaign. This organization is telling your story. You are urged to eollaborate by pushing lumber products whereo in your judgment, the situation calls for lumber.

And rincc that roul-rtirring performance, there har been not one whit of let-down on hir part. Hir lerrer rpeecher, intcrviewr, and hir long quertioning by the Senatc, were right up to the high rtandards ret by hir firrt oration. Since which timc hc hae gone calmly on hir way, hia every critic opcnly on the defensive, their every effort againrt him serving chiefy to contrart in the public eye this remarkable man, and his less-than-remarkable detractors.
The existing situation, so far ag the public is concerned, could hardly be better illustratcd than by what happened at a pair of baseball game8. Truman pitched a ball at a game in Washington, and thc crowd booed him thoroughly. MacArthur pitched a ball at a game in New York, and the crowd roae and cheered him to the echo. What greater comparison could be drawn? tl. *
There is an old adage that says that if a man does you a great injury, he never forgives you. The goings-on in Washington since the MacArthur speech prove that saying to be a true one. Regardless of the merits of the MacArthu::Truman controversy, the manner in which MacArthur was dismissed defies justification. This great military genius, this great patriot, this man who has been described by Winston Churchill as a "great statesman," was fired without a moment's notice, about like old Tom Pendergast would have fired one of his ward-heelers. And now the Washington gang is turning high heaven in a frantic effort to justify what was done. What the public thinks about it was well illustrated by the events that took place at the ball games just mentioned.. *
It were waste of space to relate here the public attitude with regard to the MacArthur-Truman controversy, since the facts have filled the public press to overflowing. A month after MacArthur's dismissal competent and reliable reporters in Washington agree that the mails are still well packed with letters to Congressmen concerning that matter. Administration propagandists say these missives are only about 5.5 to 45 in favor of MacArthur. But unbiased reports say they are a hundred to one in favor of the General, and in bitter and abusive criticism of the Administration. One reporter says that most of the letters are so potent they would make a longshoreman blush, and that the telegrams are so hot the birds can't ";, .;. the telegraph wires.
But the important thing is that MacArthur has placed himself-and has been by the public placed-in position where he can assume a position of leadership in promoting and perhaps heading a return to old-fashioned Americanism. The thinking people of this nation agree that our greatest need today is to turn away from the all-time low in political mo:ality to which we have fallen; from the whirlpool of paternalism, mink coats, influenced loans, crooked political machines, continual scandals in high places, and all the moral decay, greed, corruption and confusion that fill the public prints.
MacArthur must not venture into politics. He is too old, and too valuable to be so sacrified. His army dismissal has deprived him and robbed him of no part of the
honor and rcrpcct won by a lifetime of rervice to thir nation. Rather that rclpcct har grown a thourandfold rincc hir return home. He can rtand thc verdict of hi.tory. Hil record is clean. There is no blot on hir namc. And hc potlcsler to a greatcr cxtent than any other man the rpirltual qualifications and pcrsonal proweer that could lead this nation back from the low rpiritual eltate into which it has fallen. He is truly a mighty force to rupply a mighty need. And he needa no political portfolio to do ro.

"W" Mugt Plan to Stay Free" Says Ken Smith
"'fhe time ltas gone," said the speaker, "whetl a speakcr rreed marshatl proof that the one great issue that transcends in importance every other issue in the world today, is whcther coercion shall strpplant freedom, whether the creelling plralysis of paganism shall again engulf civilization, *h"itr.t here in America, where the seemingly illimitable light t-rf freeclom ltas burned brightest and devclttpcd the gieatcst nation yet on earth, we shall fail to nteet thc challenge of history."
Tlre slleaker was Mr. Kenneth Snlith, of Sarl I"rancisco' assistalrt to the president of the l'acific Lutnber Company, and he was adclressing the Kiwanis Clul>, in Ilakersfield, California. Report says that Mr. Smith made a trcmendous ittrpressi,rn on the large crowd that hacl gathered to hear ltint.
He u'as making good his text for the occasion which was that if wc remain free it will not be by accident; that we mtlst plan to stay free' "Free<l<tm is not free," lTe stid' ,.There is a price tag on liberty. That price is irrdivi<lual willingness to carry the responsibilities of being a frec man,-to act as :r free man. When more citizens are willing to be wards of the state for farrcie<l security than are rvilling to stancl up an<l slug it out for themselves, then freeclom is gone. It will be shattered on the reefs of political expe.liency. Our blind faith that freedorn is automatically guaranteed by the right to vote has already been so exptoit.a by political charlatans that we have been rapidly lroting ourselves into slavery, into abject dependence upon governmental control of our lives. It has never been nrore irnpottuttt than in this confusecl, almost hysterical postKorea era that we got it fixed in our minds once and for all that it is not the right to vote BUT WHAT BECOIVIES LAW that leaves us free or chains us to the juggernaut state."
"F'erv of us appear to understand," continued Mr' Smith' "this insicliotts process rvhereby we are using our own laws and our own governnrent to destroy our own liberties just as surely as if some foreign con(lueror had power over us. When our liberty is gone-rvhether because some aggressor takes it from us by force or becattse rve ourselves *iitlng-t)' vote it away-civilized man must die' Men will
bccomc robots, machines without mitrds, controllcd and driven lly Godless masters."
Irr another paragraph Mr. Smith said : "Corrosivc doubt as to tlte end pattern <-rf the economic and political system rvhich is cvolving in America, consci<tusly or unconsciously affects the plarrning for tomorrow of every llusirress -and professional man in this country. lle knows that ottr frcci.rm .rf opportunity system is in <tanger and is plagued try gravc dclullt as to whether we ciln avert bccotning it collectivist state."
And he concluded: "The most important planning you can do, is planning to stay freg. Salvation is personal' There is a price tag on liberty. We either accept the responsibility that goes with it, or we lose it. In spite of all our mistakcs, our appeasements, our retrcat from freedom; in spite of the fact that rve have become largely worshippers .ri ..pty words, we are yet the only hope for tltc childrcn of men in our time. I sullmit that it is onr resllonsibility to pcrsonally staud uP an<l light to rccre:rtc here ir, Arrlcrica the free society we havc bccn frittcring away"'
Mr. Smith has <tcvclopccl in himsclf much of the enthusiilsm of the Crusa<lcr, and his story strikes home to every person in his audiences

The CHEMONITE Process was developed in the laboratories of the University of California. A solution of arsenic and copper is forced, under pressure, deep into wood cells, giving eniiuring, effective protection against decav and- insect destruction. Sevcral of the early timber tracts certified had actually been opcrating as trce farms on a sustained yicld basis' but it r.r'as not ttntil early last year that the California ltcdrvood Associatiott rvas given thc authority by the Arrrerican Iiorest l)ro<lucts Indttstrics, national sponsor of the llroject, to certifl' them formally as trce farms.
'l'he Conrmittee took note of the fact that rvithin a year tlrere is more acreillJc with a total of slightly over l10'000 in tree farms than in publicly owned parks, with approximately 72,(m acres. All tree farms tnust be privately ou'ned and f:lrrned on a basis of prolitallle yield on a plan of perpetu:rl croll production.
The threc ne$' tree farms certified by the Association are the lJrauer Tree Farm of l20O acres in Humboldt County bettveen Trinidad and Cranncl ; the Titus Tree Farm of 513 acres in the same area of l{umboldt County; and the Itogers 'l'ree Farm of (t00 acres in Mendocino County on the ltedu, ootl Flighrvay betrvecn McCoy and Red Mourrtain Creeks.

Story Tellins
The new "lifer" in the penitentiary had bcen in the lifetcrmert' wing but a few daye when one day at lunch one of the cons rosc to his feet, shouted "thirteen," and the whole gang in the mesg room laughcd loudly'
Thc very ncxt day another man rotc to his feet during lunch and shouted "twenty-six" and again there waa laughtcr and applause.
When the new man got back to his cell he asked his cell-mate about it. and wondered what it wae all about. The fcllow said: "Well, you know we are all herc for a long time and so we have heard all the jokcs any of us trnows, over and over again. So we decided to save time in our joke telling by numbcring all of our jokes, and wherr one of us gets a notion to tell a certain story he simply hollers the number of the joke, and everybody knows what joke he is telling. It saves time and effort and gets thc

job done." And he handed the new man a sheet on which all their jokes werc printed'and numbered, so tfiat he, too, could get them identified by number.
A day or so later while at lunch one of the joker hc had cnjoyed the most came into the mind of thc ne\p man' Eo he rogc to his feet and shouted-"thirty-nine." Not a man in the room laughed or applauded, much to his surprise. So he waited a few minutes, then roEe to his feet and shouted "Eightcen." Again there wae no laughter from the convicts. who just kcpt on cating.
Of course, as soon as he got back to his cell, he asked his cell-mate about it. "I told what I thought were the two best stories in the whole list, and yet nobody laughed. How come?" And the fellow answered:
"Oh, you know how it is; some people can tell a story and some just naturally can't."

American Wood Prerervert' Agsociation Annual Meeting
preserving industry and the users of preservatively treated materials. The association establishes standards for treating structural woods against decay, insects, and fire. Products range from preservatively treated fence posts to fireresistant treated plywood, from pressure'treated railroad ties to treated cross arms,
During the meeting four fire'retardant formulations were adopted as standards of A.W.P.A. These are Pyresote, Minalith, Chromated Zinc Chloride, and Chromated Zinc Chloride (FR). All four fire-retardants have been tested by Underwriters Laboratory, Inc. and have been given specific ratings as prescribed by U. L. Both Douglas fir and Southern pine were used in making the tests. Although the building codes vary throughout the nation, wood which has been pressure-treated rvith any one of these fire-retardants will meet code requirements.
A record attendance was reached at the 47th annual meeting of the American Wood Preservers' Association, held April 24-26 in the Stevens Hotel, Chicago. More than 900 members and guests were registered, Fred W. Gottpchalk, president of the Association and technical director bf the American l-umber & Treating Co., announced.
The A.W.P.A. is the technical society for the wood
Of interest to retail lumber dealers is the committee report that indicates an ever increasing use of pressuretreated materials on farms. Grain storage bins, poultry and livestock shelters, and pole-frame barns are developing as excellent markets for treated wood, the comrnittee reported. During 1950, more than 16,00O,000 preservatively treated fence posts were sold in the nation'
Available to members during the meeting were the woocl preservation statistics prepared by Henry B. Steer, Forest

10th Annivers ary oJ Founding of Clemons Tree Farm Will Be Obse, rved tune 23
I\1[ontesano, Washington, M"y 10, 1951-A milestone of forestry progress in America will be observed here Saturday, June 23, at public ceremonies honoring the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Clemons Tree Farm, the first tree farm in the nation.
Washington's Governor Arthur B. Langlie, who dedicated the original tree farm in June, 1941, will speak again as chief executive, and will be joined by Governor Douglas McKay of Oregon in public exercises to be staged in front of the Grays Harbor county court house.
Unveiling of a permanent tree fann plaque on the court house grounds is to be a stellar event of the exercises, which are to include also, talks by several national notables of the forestry field. Foresters and forest industry leaders from all points of the compass are expected to attend. Radio networks will carry direct broadcasts throughout America.
The general public is being invited to join in the ceremonies, and special invitations are being prepared for city, county and state officials of the region, tree farmers of most of the western states, forest industry officials and employees, farm leaders, federal, state and private foresters, civic leaders and scores of others.
Official sponsors of the program are the MontesanoElma-Oakville Soil Conservation district, and the Montesano Chamber of Commerce. Both acted in the s?m€ c?pacity a decade ago when the Clemons Tree Farm was dedicated at a big public program in tl-re theater here, attended by some 800 people.

ISig game is on the increase in forested areas of western t)regon and Washington where tree farms lrave been establishcd.

Tree farms are providing the people of this region with twin crops-timber and game, according to W' D. Hagenstein, industry forester. I)eer, elk and bcar seem to thrive in young growing forests where there is plenty of grass and feed growing between the young tinrber. There is nr>t much game on <lld growth forests because there is n<l feed.
Thc first big garne harvest data for the over three million acres of West Coast Tree Farms lying west of the Cascades in Oregon and Washington has just been gathercd for 1949. During 1949, sorne 53,705 hunters lrarvested 4,5(r5 dcer, 1,109 elk and 132 bear fronr these far flung tree farms.
While the first objective of tree farm ownership is ttr grorv timber for this region's principal indttstry, the mere fact that timber is growing means also that game will bc founrl there in the young timber. As tirrrber harvesting progresses on tree farms therc is a noticcaltle increase in deer and game population bccause nrore of the land area is in young growing trees and relievcd of the burden of carrying the old, ripe old-growth.

A well-balanced tree farm will have er;ual portions of timber of evcry age from secdlings to mature timber, points out W. D. Hagenstein. As each block of timber becomes ripe it is harvested and the land soon is growing a new crop of trees. A crop of pulp wood can be grown in from 25 to 4O years, but it takes from 75 to 100 years to grow trees large enough for sawlogs.
Hagenstein said land owners were generally glad to allow the general public the privilege of hunting on tree farms, but at times, because of dangerous fire weather, huters must be kept out.
Most hunters on tree farms observe rules of safety with fire and are careful with the property of these taxpaying timber growers.

NPA Followins Arbitrrry Policy, Sayg Lynn Boyd
The National I'roduction Authority is followitlg a cotttpletely arbitrary, ttnreasonable, and unworkable policy irr applying its controls to the building and constrttctiott itrdu.stry, Lynn Iloyd, rctail lumber dcaler of I'autpa, 'l'cx:t:i' and member of Nl'A's ('tlnstrtlctirln In<lustry Advisor.t' Committee, statcd t<day ('lhursday, May 3) follorvirrl; rr nreeting of the c<lmnrittee.
"Nltn officials refusc<l to pcrnrit the a<lvisory conlnrittcc to v()te on certain vitally inrprlrtant prop<lsals, thus tttterly disregarding safeguards which Congress deliberately rvrotc into the l)efense I'rodttction Act''' Mr. lloyd said.
"In addition, NPA pr()lx)ses to batr conrltletcly ecrtltitt additional tylles of constructiotr, regardlcss of rvhcthcr critical materials are involvcd, apd to reqttirc llcrrttits for a nunrbcr of additional types of buildirrg rvhile adnrittirrg that its inade<1uatc staff alrcady is six u'ccks bchin<l irl considering perrnit re<lucsts for thc smallcr list of pt'ojccts previously place<l ttnder permit.

"It is obvious that NI'A officials do rrrlt desirc or 1ll:tcc any 'r'altte on the viervs <lf an aclvisory comnrittcc tttllcss
its members happen to agree with the agency's preconceived decisions. Replacing the over-all industry comnrittce with a number of specialized advisory committees, as proposed, would mean that NI'A wrluld receive nothing bui piecemeal views from industry groups which have no c<rmprehensive first-hand knowledge of problems and viewpoints confronting other grouPs.
"It is difficult to see how Nl'A's Facilities and Constructiou llureau. which clid not find time to meet with the present aclvisory committee betwecn January l1 and May 2, will suddenly havc time to meet at Proper intervals with a dozen or nlore advisrlry committees frotn the various branclres of tlte building industry.
"It also is obviotts that, f<lr some unexplained reason' Nl'A has singlcd out constrttction, the nation's largest non-agrit:ultural industry, to bear far tnore than its due share of the sacrifices required to meet the needs of the rlcfcnse prodttction program.
The fact that lttntber and other matcrials crluld be use<l irr placc of structural steel in ntany types of buildings rvhich Nl'A has banned or proposed to restrict is given no rveight or consi<leration whatsoever' despite the repeated insistence of dcfense nfficials that every effort rvould bc madc to nraintain thc civilian economy at the highest levcl possible, consistent with rearmament needs."

uses. The outdoor plyrrvood is in greater demand by the military, but historically production has been tess. IJcst industry estimates, according to Schrader, are that about 27 per cent of the exterior plywood and 17 per cent of the interior plywood is being set aside for the military.
Similarly, the order requires that manufacturers producing only interior type plywood reserve a fixed percentage (40 per cent of the 20 per cent reserve) of grades suitable for concrete form coustruction or for semi-permanent hutment uses. This rvill include special panels, referred to as "hutment plywood," similar to that used by the military during World War II to supplement the supply of exterior plywood with waterproof bond.

However, the plywood spokesman stressed, the overall set aside is 20 per cent of production. The NPA directive, similar to previously issued regulations on steel and other ruretals, appties to plywood production starting in July.
Under the regulation, the reserve of plywood for defense orders is hetd up to 30 days in advance of the month of production. Should DO orders not amount to the 20 per cent reserve for a given month, manufacturers are then pernritted to sell the balance of the set aside to the regular trade in addition to the 80 per cent which is always free.
The NPA order does not affect distribution or acceptarrce of orders.
Schrader said the 65-factory fir plywood industry currentlf is producing the husky, all-purpose panels at a record rate of 55 million square feet weekly in an all-out effort to nleet grou'ing mobilization requirements and continuing high civilian demand.
Schr:rder pointed out that direct and indirect military orders for plywood, a critical defense material, have been grou'ing steadily since the outbreak of the Korean war arrd tl-rat they are norv taking approximately 17 per cent of output. The DO priorities have applied to plywood previousll', but there has been no set aside of production as now being instituted.
Douglas fir plywood is used as a structural material in thousands of permanent military installations and portable field buildings. in naval surface craft, crating and for hundreds bf other miscellaneous defense applications.
"Although mobilization requirements are substantial," Schrader declared, "today's record output means that civilian users, barring some major emergency, this year are presently assured more plywood than total industry production in 1949."
For all practical purposes, the set aside applies to all plywood produced on the west coast, and two thirds of the nation's panel material is manufactured here. Specifically, the plyu'ood covered are Douglas fir, western hemlock, ponderosa and Idaho white pine, noble fir, white fir and redwood.
The order also contains a provision prohibiting the trading of logs, the raw material, for the finished product, plyu'ood.

"In my house you have met Gencral Bonaparte. Wellhe it is who would aupply a father'r place to the orphanr of Alcxander de Beauharnaie, and a husband's to his widow. I admire the General'E courage, the extent of hig information for on dl subiects he talks cqually well, and the quickness of his judgment which enablcs him to seize thc thoughts of others almost beforc they are expressed; but, I confess it, I Bhrink from the despotism he seems desirous of cxercising over dl who approach him. His searching glancc has something aingular and inexplicable, which imposes even on our directors; judge if it may not intimidate a woman. Even-what ought to pleasc me-the force of a passion described with an cnergy that leaves not a doubt of his sincerity, is precisely the cause which arrests the consent f am often on the point of pronouncing."
The Human Voice
How wonderful is the human voice ! It is indeed the organ of the soul ! The intellect of man sits enthroned visibly upon his forehead and in his eye; and the heart of man is written upon his countenance. But the soul reveals itself in the voice only, as God revealed Himself to the prophet of old. in the "still, small voice," and in a voice from the burning bush. The soul of man is audible, not visible. A sound alone betrays the fowing of the eternal fountain, invisible to man.-Longfellow.
Ccrmoullcge
The business man had just hired a very beautiful secretary, and he sai<l to her: "One thing more, Miss Jones. I{ave you got an old passport photo of yourself that I can show to my wife?"
Your Body
God made your body, And He made it great; For in it dwells a guest
Of high estate.
Keep the shrine pure, and Clean and whole, For in it dwells God's guestA kingly soul.
Ito* in math there "rlTi". words to express any number from one to infinity; while to describe amatory emotions, also infinite in their variety, we have but one word-love.
How much distress and doubt would be avoided if all the varieties could be numerically catalogued. It is inconceivable, almost, that necessity has not produced a greater accuracy of language.
In music, for instance, we can express with precision
any notc by name, or evcn a combination of notc!. But love is likc color. We cannot exPrcst a color in wordr, except with the loosegt of definition. We ray thc thing ia black; but there are hundreds of shadee, all commonly termed black. There are thousands of emotions all commonly termed love. A man of 50 loves elsewisc to the youth. A man loves a young wife not more than an old, but in quite a difrerent fashion. The lady in lavender loves, and Carmcn loves, but who would recognize the sentiments aE related?
-Algernon Crofton.
The Lord Hcd A Iob
The Lord had a job for me, But I had so much to do, I said, "You get somebody else Or wait till I get through."
I don't know how the Lord came out, But He seemed to get along, But I felt kinda sneakin' like, Cause I knowed I done Him wrong.
One day I needed the Lord mYself, Needed Him right away, And He never answered me at all, But I could hear Him sayDown in my accusin' heart"I'se got too much to do, You just get somebody else, Or wait till I get through."
-Paul Lawrence Dunbar' (Famous negro poet).
fhe Other HalI
The former United States Senator James E. Watson, re' calling his days as a struggling lawyer. used to tell the following story about one of his cases.
His client was a rambunctious old Irish woman whose unpredictable and irascible actions bedeviled the court and her own sweating attorney as well. She had but one lawyer, young James Watson, while her opposition had two, an advantage that seemed to weigh heavily on her mind, and she said so.
"Mary," he finally demanded, "what on earth do you want another lawyer for?"
And she explained: "You see, on their side when wan man is talkin' the other man is thinkin'; on our side, when you are talkin'-there's no wan a-thinkin'."
His Hurry
The northern visitor playing golf near the Gulf of Mexico, found he had the slowest moving caddy he had ever seen. Finally he said to the dusky one:
"Mose, don't you do anything in a hurry?"
And Mose said: "Yassuh. I gits tiud in a hurry."
