Tentqtive Progrqm for Hoo-Hoo Houston Annuql
Houston, Texas-This year all Hoo-Hoo eyes are on Texas. That is, Houston, Texas, where the 63rd annual Hoo-Hoo convention will be held September 6-7-8-9, at the Shamrock Hotel. Houston Hoo-Hoo Club No. 23 will be the immediate active host. All nine Texas Hoo-Hoo clubs, however, are joining with Houston to welcome and extend true Texas hospitality to the delegates and members attending the convention.
Convention committees, headed by General Chairman W. A. "Bill" Russell, 50220, have been working all year preparing a rousing welcome and gala program. W. C. "Bill" Whitridge, 53966, chairman of reservation and registration, already is busily recording advance commitments. He points out that members should send in formal registrations together with hotel reservations because convention badges will be personaliz.ed and prepared in advance to be on hand upon arrival.
Although the convention opens formally on Tuesday, September 7, there will be an informal welcome party on Mondav a.fternoon, the 6th. This is described as a round-up party. Busses will take the members to the Detering estate, where there will be an outdoor show by the sheriff's mounted police of ,Houston County, followed by a barbecue dinner and an informal dance with music by Papa Celestius, original dixieland band, through the courtesy of the Texas Lumber Nlanufacturers Association.
Chairman Russell advises that something new has been added. Early reservations indicate that a large number will check in on Sunday, September 5th. For those, the commit- tee has provided an "Early Bird" cocktail party for Sunday afternoon.
For the convention outing d^y, Wednesday afternoon, September 8, members will enjoy a dutch luncheon at the Grand Prize Brewery, and then will meet the ladies for a yacht trip down Houston ship channel to the San Jacinto Rattle-grounds and will visit the San Jacinto Monument and the battleship Texas. A gala convention dinner dance at the Houston Club, Thurstlay, September 9, will mark the end of festivities, "Hasta Ia Vista".
The business sessions will be devoted primarily to the business of Hoo-Hoo. In addition to the address of Snark of the lJniverse John B. Egan, 45206, national, regional and local club ofificers will be heard. Convention committees on administration, legislation, resolutions and nominations will report. The election of the Snark of the Universe and the Supreme Nine for the Hoo-Hoo year 1954-55 will climax the business meetings. The convention concat is always a feature. From Texas comes the report that the degree teams in charge of the concat are hard at work preparing a ceremony that will be most impressive not only to the "kittens" but also to the clelegates. The concat is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, September 7. After the concat, the ladies will join the men at a buffet dinner and water show-Terrace of Shamrock Pool.
