Honey: Delicious Medicine and a Special Touch in Culinary Masterpieces Honey is a unique natural product absolutely ready to eat. It has a distinctive taste and scent. It is the only natural sweetener that doesn’t need any refining or processing. And it’s a delicacy not only for those with a sweet tooth. It is widely used in cooking, especially in salads, meat and poultry dishes, as well as in folk medicine and cosmetology. It is a well-established fact that honey contains about 20% water and about 80% carbohydrates such as fructose, sucrose, and glucose. It also contains vitamins С, Е, К, В1, В2, В6, carotene (provitamin A), and folic acid. This bee product has antibacterial qualities due to its high content of inhibin. Because of honey’s rich content, it can be used for general health promotion, as well as in the prevention and treatment of various diseases. It assists in regulating metabolism, treating skin diseases and digestive disorders; it is also helpful in curing laryngitis and pharyngitis, as well as insomnia. There is a folk saying: “Honey can cure any ailment!” Honey is a component of various skin scrubs and cosmetic masks, it helps preserve beauty and youth, and it soothes and reinvigorates the skin. People with a high blood sugar level or allergies should c o n -

sume honey with caution, and children in their first year of life should not be given it at all. Even a healthy adult should not abuse this product: a standard dose per day is one to three tablespoons per person. Fresh honey is extracted from a honeycomb as a liquid, and then after some time it crystallizes. Honey varies in taste, scent, and color depending on the type of flowers from which the bees collected the nectar. If all the nectar comes from the same type of flower, its name is given to the honey (buckwheat, lime, acacia, sunflower, etc.). Buckwheat honey is thought to be one of the most nutritious and powerful types. It is collected at the time of the buckwheat blossom in July and August. It has a dark color, a distinctive taste, and a pleasant scent. Buckwheat honey tends to crystallize fast and it loses its

fluid texture by mid-autumn. It is very good for common colds and digestive disorders. It stabilizes the hemoglobin level and reinforces blood vessels. It is also recommended for hypertension, stomach ulcer, anemia, vitamin deficiency, and other disorders. Japanese scientists also discovered that buckwheat honey helps eliminate radioactive nuclides from the body and restore cells. Lime honey is another important kind of honey and also one of the most popular types. It has a light color, delicate scent, and a very sweet taste. Lime honey is a wonderful remedy for colds; it has health-promoting, diaphoretic, and expectorant properties. It is used to treat liver, gallbladder, stomach, and intestine diseases. Acacia honey also has a light color, a pleasant taste and scent. Doctors claim that it is safe to be consumed even by diabetes patients and children. Acacia honey is a non-allergenic honey. It is beneficial in treating nervous conditions, insomnia, hypertension, digestive disorders, kidney and liver conditions. It can be used in lotions, water solutions, and ointments to treat skin and eye diseases (like blepharitis or conjunctivitis). A monofloral honey, however, is a rare product because most often there are several nectarbearing flowers growing around the beehives. More

common is a polyfloral type of honey, otherwise called a wildflower honey. It combines therapeutic properties and scents of different plants. Korchma Taras Bulba offers its guests a natural, delicious, and flavorful wildflower honey that comes from our own beehives on the Kazachye Farm. It is used in many dishes on Korchma’s menu and can also be sold separately to be savored with tea or to use as a baking ingredient later at home. Honey is widely used in cooking. It is added to marinades, which makes meat taste more tender and juicy, preserving the golden crust. Especially popular are chicken wings brushed with honey, spices, and mustard. Honey can also serve as a component in sauces and salad seasonings: it compensates for the pungent taste of mustard, paprika, or garlic, but

at the same time adds zest to the dish. This bee product can also be combined with lime, coriander, ginger, cardamom, lemon, and orange peel. All these spices can be safely combined together and they will make for a delicious dish. Honey is an ideal companion to various porridges, desserts, and pastries. Honey can replace sugar in all cake and bun recipes. But you need to remember that honey is almost twice as sweet as sugar and that about 20% of it is liquid. This means you should use half as much honey as compared to sugar, and use1/5 less water than indicated in the recipe. Such a replacement will

not only enrich the taste of your pastry but will also keep it fresh much longer. Honey should never be heated over 40°С, otherwise it will lose the majority of its healthy properties. It’s not recommended to add it to hot tea or milk; it’s much healthier to eat it as a dessert on the side. If your honey is too crystallized and hard, you can heat your spoon and bowl. When baking, you don’t need to melt the honey before adding it into your dough, because it will dissolve quite easily during kneading. Don’t bake a pastry containing honey at the temperature over 180 °С so that the pastry will be the right texture and will develop a nice golden-brownish color. Honey is best preserved in a glass jar with a tight lid in a dark place. The nutritious and therapeutic properties of honey can help you stay healthy and enrich your and your family’s diet. Yury Beloyvan: ‘The naturalness of our products is good advertising. We don’t have to prove anything…’ In March, the restaurant chain Korchma Taras Bulba celebrates its 17th birthday. Time passed quickly and we are just one step from coming of age. Despite the challenges facing the restaurant industry, we celebrate our holiday with optimism. And we have many reasons for this. Our family is growing and now we have twenty restaurants, not only in Moscow, but in Kyiv and New York. Not long ago, we launched a project Culinaria, and now have our own cheese factory, where we will prepare a variety of dairy products. So in today’s issue manager and founder Yuri Biloyvan will speak about the competitive advantage of Korchma, market challenges, and his culinary dreams. On Korchma’s Competitive Advantage Korchma’s advantage is that we have our own farm, and thus access to natural and quality products. If you grow food, but do not have processing, then you will have very small profits. When you have processing and sell not only raw materials, but also ready products, for example, grains and flour, it is a very different sort of business. If on top of all of this you set prices and have the opportunity to sell goods directly to consumers, the business can be very successful. Moreover, one’s own products will always be tied to the national currency. It does not increase in

value, as everything that has to be bought in dollars or euros. Thus, we are able to sell food to people at prices to which they are accustomed. And so they trust us. Another plus – restaurants that are 100% tied to dollar goods are either forced to raise prices or become unprofitable. They can not invest in development, and often stop all activity. So here we are unbeatable. On New Challenges In Russia there are many intelligent people. I hope that from the current situation, the country will come out with more pluses than minuses. Because the more we will provide for ourselves, the more jobs we will create and less we will be a raw materials supplier to other countries. I could never understand how a country that was the first to go into space, cannot provide itself with meat, milk and everything else, if it successfully did this a hundred years ago! The lack of quality food cannot be explained only by Stalin’s collective farms or the destruction of the peasantry as a class. We must

create new optimistic things that will lead us into the future.

these difficult times people visit our restaurants and there is even a waiting list.

On Culinary Dreams On Our Project Culinaria What is better than creating global brands? Not long ago, a farm manager told me, we will create a better product for your birthday. To which I replied: You know, this is not my dream. My dream is that in France at an exhibition we will receive a medal for our cheeses. Then it will be evident that we achieved something great. And just to make Soviet quality cheese that people eat just because it is cheap or because there are no other options is not my dream. I say – we have all the conditions to make products no worse than those in Switzerland or in France. For is our land or milk not of the same quality? To make something on a global level is cool. Many people may find this difficult to believe, but when 17 years ago I opened the first restaurant, who could have thought that the chain would be in Moscow, Kyiv, and New York? That even in

We decided to take advantage of the large spaces of our restaurants and launched a project Culinaria – small shops where people can buy natural products from our farm. It is beneficial for us because each meter is profitable, and for our customers because they have access to quality products, potatoes, meat, milk. For example, there is even bread. It doesn’t bring that a high a profit, but we still run the bakery, why not? We must do everything to increase production and for it be profitable. Moreover, people like this project because in supermarkets products have a long shelf life, chemicals are used when the produce is grown, but that is not the case in our shops. Today consumers takes these factors into account. On Our Cheese Factory We now have our own cheese

We turned 17! | 5

factory. Our employees who work there made up the slogan «Natural means it’s tasty.» I think that for the cheese to became truly delicious it will still take time, experience, and continuous improvement. But anyway, when a product is made with real milk instead of powdered products, it is quickly noticed and the products will sell well. The very naturalness of our products is in itself good advertising. There is no need to prove anything to anyone. We make it ourselves, with milk from our land, which is one of our competitive advantages. Earlier the opposite was true – imported, foreign products were more valued. At the cheese factory we will produce everything that is made from milk: cream, sour cream, cheese. There is a demand for this as it is not clear what dairy products that are sold in supermarkets are made of. If our cheeses and everything else sell well, we will need to increase production, and this means new spaces, new jobs, more livestock, land, and so on. All the resources for this are available. The earth is to feed those who live on it and we’ll be working on this. On Natural Products We have our boreholes not because it’s cheaper, but because I know that the water we bottle and prepare our food with has no chemicals, antibiotics, or any other impurities. The fact that after a while it

can turn green is an indicator that it is good water. Water that does not go bad and can be kept for ten years can be only from the Jordan. And such products are important for us. On Relations Between Brotherly Nations Recently we finished the Week of Belarusian Cuisine. I think this is the start of a good tradition of celebrating culinary projects of nearby countries. For example, I think it would be good to present in this context Poland, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Moreover, there have already been specific proposals. I think all this will contribute to better communication between people. We even have a photo were a Belarusian who will go to Eurovision is giving an interview in a Ukrainian Korchma in Moscow. And for me it is an ideal system of relations between brotherly nations. For though sometimes we have to say to each other that is not always pleasant, but my dream is to make it like this. On Common Culinary Traditions and Relations Between People Cuisine can remind us how much we have in common, how similar our traditions are, that we are one people. Some will object and say that we are different. But look just how different we are from Spaniards or Italians. Therefore, we should always look for similarities, not differences.

If you ask me how I feel about an issue, then I say: when 17 years ago I chose the name for the restaurant, the name «Taras Bulba» said everything. Unfortunately, few people know classical literature, so I would advise them to read Gogol. He described well how Taras Bulba died for Ukraine to be together with Russia. When I created the chain, I made this choice for myself.

I also want to say that politics should not be taken as seriously as the relationship between people. Nations are friends with each other for hundreds of years, and politicians plan for 3-4 years until the next election. They can change their plans any moment. And we cannot afford to do that... Ivan Firtsak was a man from the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine; he was so strong that there were legends about his extraordinary physical powers. Every morning he ate an omelet of 40 eggs. He could also move a wooden house or harness himself to a plough and till a field just like an ox. As a result, the strongman was recognized as the strongest person on the planet in the 20th century and was called Croton in honor of the legendary wrestler of Ancient Greece. Though there were times when the Queen of England applauded him and the strongest wrestlers of the world were defeated by him, the Ukrainian spent the second half of his life in his home village in almost total obscurity.

Baby Strollers in the USSR

Ivan Firtsak was born in 1899 in the village of Bilky in the Transcarpathian region. He was born to a peasant family of many children. The family wasn’t terribly poor , but it wasn’t rich either. That’s why, in order to make a living, the boy went off to Prague, where he gained his first popularity. There, his extraordinary physical abilities were noticed and he was invited to perform at the Hertsfert Circus, with whose troop he later traveled halfway around the world. But first things first. Ivan’s strength started to develop in his early childhood. His neighbors recalled a case when he felt sorry for an ox that could not plough the field and he harnessed himself up instead. And when the ox hurt its leg, Ivan put it over his shoulders and carried it home. It went without saying that nobody in the village was able to compete with him. For example, when he had an argument with a fellow villager, he pulled an oak cross out of the ground and beat his offender with it. He was put into prison, but escaped from it by breaking the bars. The villagers were not too surprised because they remembered well the stories about his grandfather who once met a bear in the forest and killed it with a log. Learning of this, a Czech official Vaclav Prochazka, a village notary, wrote a letter to his brother, who at that time owned a factory in Prague, and asked him to give the boy a job. Vaclav’s brother was looking for strong workers. That’s how Ivan in his peasant clothes, a wide-brimmed hat, and a canvas bag packed with simple food made it to the capital. In Prague, Ivan Firtsak first worked at the factory and later he got a job as a loader at the railway station. He also participated as an amateur athlete in fighting championships and different weightlifting competitions. Ivan Firtsak became famous at the Weightlifting Championship hosted by Czechoslovakia in 1922 where he lifted 150 kg and won a gold medal. However, the sport itself did not bring a big profit. At that time circuses were popular and were a place one could demonstrate his strength and make good money. So the Ukrainian peasant became a performer at the Hertsfert Circus and started to tour worldwide. He took the pseudonym Ivan Syla and presented himself as the strongest man on the planet. Nobody dared contend for the championship, because in front of amazed audiences Ivan ripped iron chains apart, punched oak boards with nails and then took them out with his teeth, bent

steel rails into a heart shape, or lay on broken glass while hefting 500 kg of weight. In the USA, Ivan performed the following PR stunt: he lay on the ground while an automobile ran over his throat. Photos of this act were published in numerous American newspapers. As a result, Ivan introduced it to his program under the title “A man under the car.” In 1927, to show their respect, the owners of the Ford Motors Company gave Firtsak a car. Soon the Ukrainian strongman became famous around the world. Not only common people, but also presidents came to watch his performances. Even the Queen of England came to watch one of his performances. She wanted to see how the Ukrainian performer would fare in a boxing ring competing with an experienced boxer. After his circus act Ivan Firtsak started a fight with John Jackson. Apparently, it wasn’t a good idea because the Ukrainian champion with a single blow broke the opponent’s ribcage and the latter never stepped into the ring ever again. The blow is said to have been so heavy that it made even a durable boxing glove burst… To avenge for their hero, a whole crowd of Jackson’s fans attacked Ivan. They hurled stones at him and Ivan suffered an open skull fracture. The doctors had to insert a metal plate to replace the damaged bone. There remains no credible evidence why in the 1930s Ivan pulled out of his contract with the circus and decided to go back to his home village. It was not the best time for such a decision because at that time Transcarpathia was occupied by Hungary, who even wanted to confiscate his car. Not wanting to give it up, Ivan took smashed the Ford to pieces with a sledge hammer. The formerly famous Ukrainian entertainer wasn’t respected very much in the USSR. He hardly made ends meet. Ivan Firtsak earned his bread by performing at village clubs and showed his stunts for peanuts. Although he was no longer young, he bent rails, lifted heavy weights, and pulled carts full of people. Later, he founded a circus school and a school of martial arts. Strongman Ivan Firtsak died in 1970 in his home village and was buried at the local cemetery. In 2009, a monument to him was erected in Bilky, modeled after another Ukrainian strongman Vasyl Virastyuk. In 2013, the film Strong Ivan about Ivan Firtsak was produced. In this film, the legendary strongman was played by Dmytro Khaladzhi. Text: Stepan Hrytsiuk

In today’s rubric, we would like to tell you about a thing available in every family with little children: a baby stroller. Strollers have long been not only an element of everyday life, but also a part of the fashion industry. Every season different companies specializing in children’s products release new models, including rather expensive designer strollers unaffordable to the majority of consumers. But despite this, the happy parents spare no money to make their child feel good and comfortable. But it wasn’t always like this. During the Soviet times there was a period when baby strollers were not produced and parents had to manage on their own! This is when local mechanics came to the rescue and made strollers out of the materials at hand. This explains why in so many families strollers were used and stored with great care in order to pass them on to the next generation. Before the appearance of factory-made products, strollers were made of wood or willow twigs. This was a cheap and widely available material, and even the poorest families could provide their children with a stroller made from these materials. There are pictures that show adults pushing their children in such homemade strollers as recently as in the late 1950s! No one can say for sure when factory-made strollers appeared in Russia. However, in 1942, artist Nadezhda Udaltsova painted the picture “On the Balcony” that shows a typical stroller of those times, which for a long time had already been popular worldwide. It had a vertical handlebar that was large and broad. So, it can be said that already in the 1940s, some strollers could be found in the USSR and, apparently, were brought from abroad. Mass production started in 1949. According to a government decree, the first prototype was brought from Germany. It was studied and measured for a long time, and then put into mass production. By order of Ordzhonikidze, 50 workshops were opened across the country assigned with the task to produce “children’s transport.” Later, the most famous manufacturer of baby strollers became the Dubna Machine-Building Factory that was engaged in rocket engineering. In 1953, it began to produce products for children as well. It is true that for many years they were in a very short supply. To buy a baby stroller, it was necessary to save money for a long time and then to be on an even longer waiting list, and from time to time to call the Children’s World shop to specify delivery times. Only in the mid-1970s did the “children’s transport” stop being a rarity and become available to every Soviet family. Strollers of that time, however were made slapdash and often broke down. By the way, back then parents were not afraid to leave strollers unattended on the street or at the entrance door. A mother with her child could go to a store or a pharmacy and was sure that no one would steal her stroller.

Its Majesty Vienna Vienna: Even a hundred years after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, its capital has not lost its charm. The main city of Austria is always clean, tidy, elegant, and beautiful. Viennese coffee, Viennese balls, Viennese strudel, Viennese waltz – so many Viennese things have spread around the world and are widely popular.

Everyone who visits this city is impressed with its luxury, magnitude, architectural beauty, comfort of living, and high quality of service. This is not a place for rich snobs and arrogant wealth – this is the capital of intelligence and subtlety. It’s not only the capital of glamor and splendor, but also of art and culture. Even tourists from other developed countries, such as Norway, the USA, or the UK, say Vienna is the most sophisticated city they have ever visited. Most recently, the capital of Austria topped the list of the most comfortable cities in the world. Even if you don’t plan to leave your homeland forever, visiting Vienna for just a few days is a must! It is impossible to see everything just by walking around the city: there is a huge number of museums, theaters, shops, cafes, and restaurants – everyone surely can choose something to their liking. In our case, it is only a matter of price, because Vienna isn’t a cheap city. Save yourself at least a day to walk round the city’s palaces. The most important of them are the Hofburg Palace, the Schönbrunn Palace, and the Belvedere summer residence. All of them are open to tourists and host a lot of traces of Austria’s

history. The formerly main Hofburg Palace today houses several museums, the Royal Treasury, the Imperial Library, the Imperial Horse Stables, and the Riding School. Schönbrunn is a symbol of power and greatness with impressive interiors and a grand park. This is one of the most outstanding architectural buildings of Austrian Baroque. And the Belvedere has now become an art gallery and home of the most famous painting of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt «The Kiss.» Vienna’s museums are very numerous and various. Worth noting is the impressive Twin Museums located in similar buildings on each side of the monument to Empress Maria Theresa in the eponymous square. Interiors deserve a special attention! You can also drink a cup of coffee on the top floor of the Museum of Art History. And among the exhibited antiquities there are a lot of interesting things: the Romanesque (antique) and the Egyptian halls, the Imperial Treasury. The Art Gallery is also worth visiting. Austria cannot boast of many outstanding art-

ists, but in the imperial times, the country managed to gather the pearls of world art: German Dürer, Cranach, Memling, Dutchmen Rubens, Bruegel (one of his most famous paintings «The Tower of Babel» is exhibited here), van Dyck, Vermeer, Italian Tiepolo, Giordano, Caravaggio, Tintoretto, Fra Bartolomeo, Raffaello, Tiziano, Veronese, Canaletto, Spanish Ribera, Velasquez, French Poussin, Belgian Jordaens and many others. You can also visit the famous Albertina Gallery which currently hosts an exhibition «From Malevich to Chagall» which in detail tells about the fine art of that period. The Vienna State Opera has acquired considerable fame during the years of its existence. And of course this is not only because of its beautiful neo-baroque facade. Throughout the 147 years of its existence, the most famous voices of the planet performed on the opera stage. It became the home for numerous beautiful performances. And now, it is not lagging behind, being one of the largest opera houses not

only in Europe, but also in the world. That’s why I strongly recommend visiting it. If you don’t want to spend several hundred euros for tickets, keep in mind that it is possible to buy very cheap spots in the standing room. In this case, the aesthetic pleasure will cost you 3-4 euros, depending on whether you stay on the balcony or in the stalls. If you really want to take this opportunity, you need to know one thing: standing places are sold starting from 6:15 pm. You need to go to a special box-office in advance, and having bought a ticket immediately go to the designated box in the stalls and claim the best standing room by tying your scarf there. Then you can safely go about your business before the performance starts. Your place will be reserved for you. The Vienna City Hall has impressive architecture and interior design. The neo-gothic style building can be seen from far away. It is well worth visiting. After climbing more than 250 steps, you can view the city from the tower. It’s an incredible beauty. And up to mid-March, near the City Hall, there is a city skating rink visited by hundreds of energetic citizens and tourists. Cotton candy and mulled wine is sold for a rather long time after the winter holidays. To see real gothic architecture you need to go to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The amazing gigantic building is for sure the main temple of Vienna, as well as one of the most famous samples of architecture. When you are there, it is also possible to climb the tower and view the capital from its very center.

Are you tired of the classics and want to see something more light-minded? Then the Hundertwasser House waits for you. The extravagant architect went all out and had the time of his life designing the facades of several buildings in a fanciful style. The address of this quarter is Kegelgasse 36-38, A-1030 Wien, corner Löwengasse 41-43. If you decide to escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital, there is a wonderful place to spend time quietly – the well-known Austrian thermal spa of Baden and its vineyards. Maybe you didn’t know this but Austria is famous for its dry wines from such grape varieties as Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch. A good local wine, cozy and peaceful atmosphere, fresh air. What else do you need to feel happy? Vienna is a beautiful city with a long history and no less interesting present. The former center of a mighty empire hasn’t just avoided decline, but also continued to develop, becoming one of the greatest capitals of the world. Here, there is everything for a cozy and diverse holiday, so don’t hesitate – the capital of Austria is waiting for you! Text: Ostap Protsyk Photo: Yuriy Helytovych

The Great Lent: A Way to Harmony From March 14th to April 30th Orthodox Christians around the world are observing the Great Lent in preparation for the bright and holy day of Easter. This season is very important for Christians since to fast means not only to stop eating meat and dairy products, but to abandon negative thoughts, insults, and jealousness. An ascetic diet, prayers, and control over your thoughts and senses help believers to cleanse themselves physically and spiritually. Priests suggest that we should not refer to the Great Lent as an obligation or a penalty, but rather as a treatment for soul and body. Otherwise, austere restrictions in food and entertainment can provoke irritation and anger instead of love and peace. As a result, the main purpose of the Lent will not be achieved. The benefits of temporarily abstaining from animal proteins has been proven by doctors and nutritionists. However, it only applies to an adult’s body. The Church allows children, elderly people, pregnant

women, and those who with manual jobs not to observe the Lent or make it less strict. In any event, one should wisely approach his or her opportunities and should not set unrealistic targets. The key rules of the Great Lent are the following: • It is forbidden to consume meat, fish, milk, vegetable oil, and wine. • Vegetable oil and wine is allowed on Saturdays and Sundays.

• Fish can only be eaten on the Feast of Annunciation (April 7th) and Palm Sunday (Entrance into Jerusalem). • Caviar can be consumed on Lazarus Saturday (on the eve of Palm Sunday). The first and the last week (The Holy Week) of the Great Lent are the strictest weeks of all. According to the Church canon, the first two days of the fast should be dedicated to a complete abstinence from any food. In the Holy Week one should eat only raw food (nothing should be cooked or processed) and to-

tally abstain from food on Holy Friday and Holy Saturday. If you organize your diet wisely during the Great Lent, it is possible to improve your health considerably. As is known, abstinence from animal products decreases cholesterol level in the blood, which is beneficial for the cardiovascular system. Besides, dietary fibers, which are found in large amounts in cereals, vegetables, and fresh fruit, stimulate the removal of toxins and improve the intestinal microflora, which in turn favorably affects the gastrointestinal tract and boosts immunity. Also dairy- and meat-free food

is rich in vitamins and minerals. Such food contains less fat and calories, which is beneficial not only for health but also for one’s figure. At first it might be difficult to renounce one’s beloved products. But if your diet during the Great Lent is tasty and diverse, the fasting season will be spent without stress and will bring benefits to your body and soul. Korchma Taras Bulba has prepared a special dairyand meat-free menu to accompany our regular menu. The dairy- and meat-free menu consists of salads, soups, hot dishes, all cooked based on interesting recipes using vegetables, legumes, mushrooms, and

soy products (which allows you to get the necessary amount of vitamins and vegetable protein). Exquisite fish dishes are also available, such as dumplings with salmon. Breakfast (pancakes, muffins, porridge) as well as delicious cakes and desserts are also prepared according to special recipes using soy milk. By sticking to a diet which allows you not only to respect the Church canon during the Great Lent, but also to improve your health and mind, you will be able to concentrate on the most important thing – the purification of your soul, which will bring you love and righteousness.

The restaurant chefs came up with a street food dranik, which can be eaten with one hand. We needed a dranik that was not greasy , did not fall apart, could hold the filling inside and would fit into an envelope. It’s much harder than it sounds. But we achieved something similar. A helping looked like a sandwich consisting of two draniki with sour cream between them. “This holiday would not have taken place without volunteers. Russian children from the theater Ulei learned Belarusian songs with the help of their teachers, Belarusians Katya and Darina. Another young performer, a Moscow student Stas Galushko,

sang the Narodnyi Albom at the festival. “Students of the School of Economics put makeup on children and taught them to create paintings with potato prints. Interestingly , the girls volunteered to help with the Belarusian holiday even though they have never been to Belarus. “We displayed and signed the potato varieties that our friends from Prastora.by had bought at the Komarovsky market in Minsk. The idea was to show that there are many different potatoes and that Belarusian women are well-versed in its varieties and each variety is good for different dishes. As a result, everyone wanted to buy the potatoes. Eventually we gave up and sold a couple of kilos to a persistent Moscow woman. The Embassy of Belarus in Moscow helped with the street party audio equipment. Thank you all!” Ksenia Vyatskya, food coach

Korchma at Inturmarket On the eve of its 17th birthday Korchma Taras Bulba participated for the first time in Inturmaket, Russia’s main tourist exhibition. Participation in the exhibition is a wonderful way to advertise yourself outside Russia and to present your concept to thousands of people. Why did we choose the tourist fair? Simply because our restaurant chain is more than a restaurant – it’s an authentic project, an attraction which leaves visitors with happy memories! Inturmarket Fair is the only Russian exhibition, which presents the entire range of tourist products in our country, and all regions are presented there. And we would like to remind you that the Korchma welcomes large tourist groups. If you’re looking to discover Slavic culture for yourself – we’re waiting for you!
