The Joslyn Travel/Recreation Office offers day trips for adults 55 or older. Fall trip registration will begin on Monday, August 20, at 9:00am. Priority numbers will be given out beginning at 8:00am. Trips leave from the Joslyn Adult Center.

Senior Activity Card 2018 BSAC cards are available at the Joslyn Center for $15 (Burbank residents) and $20 (non-residents). Cardholders receive discounts on programs/classes at select Burbank businesses and more. Individuals may request a free Activity Card (“AC”) to allow access to our activities. However, individuals will be required to pay full price for each program/class. Scan your BSAC card when you attend activities or pay for classes/day trips.

BRAILLE LOW VISION REHABILITATION VAN This monthly van features a wheelchair lift, LCD televisions for instructional videos, and demonstration areas for the latest low vision devices. Visitors can receive free lowvision rehabilitation consultations, learn more about Braille Institutes’s Library Services, and qualified patrons can sign up to receive talking books. Please bring a referral from your eye doctor. HEARING SCREENING / TELEPHONE PROGRAM When: 3rd Wednesday of each month I 9:00-11:00am An Audiologist will examine your ears, check your hearing, and if you have hearing loss, issue a form for a free amplified telephone from the California Telephone Access Program. LEGAL ADVOCATE SERVICES When: 2nd Thursday of each month I 9:00am-12:30pm A legal representative from Bet Tzedek (House of Justice) Legal Services is available to assist low income individuals, 55 years or older. LIFE CARE PLANNING: ADVANCE DIRECTIVES When: 2nd Friday of each month I 12:30pm Cost: $2 (free with BSAC card) Learn how to complete an Advance Directive for health care and other pertinent forms pertaining to health care wishes. Documents will be provided free of charge. The Level 2 program is constructed to give students success with fundamental swimming skills. Students will learn to swim on their front, back, and side using alternating and simultaneous arm and leg action with independent forward progression at least 15 feet from the wall. This course will prepare students for swimming 25 yards across the width of the pool with the instructor providing aid until the student builds endurance for completing the skill independently. Proof of passing Level 1 or passing swim evaluation for Level 2 required. YOUTH SWIM TEAM
The youth swim team focus on honing skills in the freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, and butterfly. Coaches also teach swimmers appropriate starts and turns for each stroke in a competitive setting. Swimmers will be encouraged to swim in meets throughout the summer. Students must have passed Level 3 or qualify for Level 4. Students must be able to demonstrate 50 continuous yards in both the freestyle and backstroke. It is preferred that the participants also have a working knowledge of the breast stroke and butterfly. **No practice on Thursday, September 20. YOUTH WATER POLO TEAM
The Water Polo team is a recreational team where participants are eligible to play in games against other recreational teams throughout the Fall season. Daily practices include dry-land work outs, swim sets, and water polo fundamentals training including positioning, passing, and shooting. August 3 - 23, 2018 I Opening Reception: August 3, 7– 9pm The Surface Art Association is a group of Southern California based fiber/textile artists located in Los Angeles. The theme for their current show, “Fiber Stories”, provides our artist with a variety of interpretations through which to express their art. Interpretations of the theme may include such issues as interpersonal connections, creative exploration and innovation, personal growth, and family journey. Media through which we explore these ideas include all types of fiber, which are incorporated into such art forms as weaving, quilting, tapestry, felting, printing, multimedia collage, and sculpture.

September 7 - 27, 2018 I Opening Reception: September 7, 7– 9pm The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California is dedicated to establishing and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and design in clay and glass. This exhibition presents a diverse array of techniques and approaches to handmade ceramics and glass, with each artist showing a group of original pieces in their respective media. Artworks produced using various firing temperatures and working methods, from functional to sculptural, are displayed.

Ben & Sandra Goldman Retrospective
October 5 - 25, 2018 I Opening Reception: October 5, 7– 9pm Both Ben and Sandra had an appreciation for a variety of artists and styles that can be seen in their work, through their use of acrylic, watercolor, collage and multimedia. They developed their own unique techniques that they shared in workshops during their lifetime. Both artists were members of National Watercolor Society, Los Angeles Experimental Artists and International Acrylic Painters and their work was exhibited nationally. Quoting from Ben’s own written biography: “My goal is to have fun, and hope that others can enjoy my creations.” All proceeds of the show will go to Dr. Pullarkat and Dr. Kozcywas at the City of Hope Hospital, there will be a couple of assistants on the opening night to explain the Doctors’ research.

CULTURAL ARTS FINE ARTS FEDERATION Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center I 818.238.5397 I CACMail@burbankca.gov The Fine Arts Federation (FAF) is a non-profit organization who support arts within the community and is a valued supporter of the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center. The FAF helps support the Annual Youth Art Expo, Art Experiences Camp, and art classes and workshops held at the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center. Membership includes announcements for monthly gallery shows, opportunity to participate in the annual membership show held in March, and the opportunity to participate in the annual holiday boutique. Membership dues are $25 for individuals, $20 for seniors, and are valid for one calendar year.

YOUTH Sports Youth Sports
The Youth Sports Program provides various instructional camps, sports leagues, and special programs throughout the year. Recreational competition is provided for both boys and girls. Teams are coached by volunteers who share their time and talent. The City of Burbank is a member of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) which advocates positive safe sports and activities for children.
Youth Team Registration Youth sports league registration is accepted on a “team basis.” Individual players’ names will be added to a Free Agent List. Players’ names are distributed to existing teams expressing an interest in adding new players or to new teams that are forming. For those players not contacted and placed on a team, their parents are required to attend a parent’s meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to recruit new coaches. Staff will make every attempt to recruit coaches for these players, however there is no guarantee of placement on a team. Individual players interested in playing these sports should contact the Sports Office. League

Youth Officials Training Earn $14 - $15 per game! The Youth Officials Program is available to youth in 8th grade and above. Youth Officials are used to officiate youth baseball (February), softball (February), and basketball (September/October). Contact the Sports Office for additional information.

ADULT SPORTS ADULT SPORTS
The Adult Sports Program offers men and women an opportunity to participate in organized leagues in a recreational setting. Registration is accepted on a “team basis” only. Individuals may put themselves on a player referral list but there is no guarantee of team placement. Divisional classifications range from top-flight play to low-level recreational leagues in a variety of sports. The adult program offers play in basketball, roller hockey (conracted by the LA Kings), slow-pitch and fastpitch softball, and volleyball.
REGISTRATION
League registration takes place for a two-week period online and at the Sports Office during regular business hours. Teams may pay to secure their spot with payment online or in the Sports Office, and submit all required paperwork by the end of the registration period. Players may only play for one team per league and may play in multiple leagues. The $25 resident discount applies to teams in which 75% of the team lives or works in Burbank with proof required by registration deadline. Teams registering in the Corporate Coed Slow Pitch league must maintain 66% of players working for one company. Non-resident fee applies to all others. Officials fees are paid in cash by each team at the beginning of each game. Softballs provided. Registration is on a first-come first-serve basis, and space is limited in each league.

All class registration will only be accepted through the second class meeting and all original class fees will apply. Non-Resident fees apply to those living outside of the City of Burbank. Non-Residents must include an additional $10 per person, per class. Enrollment is subject to availability. Programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All programs are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment numbers are not met. Class schedules are correct up to the date of publication, however may be subject to change without notice. Guests of Enrolled Participants: Permitting classroom visits are at the discretion of the Instructor who has the responsibility to protect the learning environment and develop rules and procedures to maintain a safe classroom setting. Classroom visits are arranged directly with the Instructor under any rules that the Instructor may establish.
Refund / Transfer Policy The City of Burbank strives to provide quality recreation classes and programs. If you are unable to attend or are not satisfied with a class, we will be happy to arrange a transfer to another class (if space is available and is within the first 2 weeks of class) or process a refund if the following guidelines are met: • A $10 processing fee will be deducted from all participant initiated refund requests. • Class lasting 3 or more weeks - A request for refund/ transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting. No refund/transfer will be issued after the second class meeting. • Class or workshop lasting 2 or fewer weeks - A request for refund/transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of five business days prior to the scheduled start date of the class or workshop. No refund/transfer will be issued after this date. • Material/Supply fees are non-refundable. • Refunds issued by check will take between 3-6 weeks to receive in the mail.

Introduce your toddler to soccer. As you participate in our fun age appropriate activities together, your child will be developing their large motor and socialization skills. This parent-tot style class is part structured teaching and part gym exploration; focusing on getting children comfortable in a gymnastics environment, allowing them to explore basic body positions, skills, and gymnastic terminology. Wee Explorers
This child development “Runners” class includes tumbling, climbing, jumping, swinging, sliding, and many other developmental skills. Children also begin developing social skills while working with others. Parent participation is required. Note: new walkers are not appropriate for this class. Children are free to roam and explore the activities that await them. With budding curiosity, they assimilate through movement and exploration. Special Interest Children will be introduced to a new language and have a blast in the process. This circuit-style class helps budding gymnasts accomplish skills with good form and allows them the opportunity to set and achieve goals.
