Burbank’s Path to Sustainable Water Use Burbank is currently in Stage III of the Sustainable Water Use Ordinance: Attended hand watering is allowed any day before 9 am or after 6 pm. Low flow irrigation is allowed on watering days, they are exempt from the 15-minute rule.
Step 1
CHECK. How do you know if your tree needs to be watered? Check! Use a screwdriver or other tool and gently push it 6-8 inches into the ground. If the soil is dry and crumbly, it may be time to water again. How often will you need to water? Every tree is different, but generally young trees will need watering 1-3 times a week (depending on the temperature) and mature trees will need watering 1-2 times each month.
Step 2
WATER. When watering your tree, think low and slow. Water at ground level to avoid losing water to evaporation. Use a watering tool with a slow, steady release to make sure water soaks into the ground. The goal is to get the water to the roots, which are typically 12-18 inches below the ground. Don’t forget to limit your watering times to before 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m.
Step 3
MULCH Mulch keeps moisture in the soil and protects your tree’s roots from extreme heat. Simply layer about 4 inches of mulch on the ground surrounding your tree, making sure to leave about 6 inches of empty space between the trunk of the tree and where the mulch begins. Did you know that the City of Burbank has a FREE mulch program? Take a look and find a convenient pick-up location. Need a lot of it? You may qualify for home delivery. For more information, contact: (818) 238-5300.
No outdoor evaporative cooling devices, such as misters.
The Burbank Program, Activity, and Service Subsidy (PASS) Pools must be covered to decrease water links Burbank residents, who the income thresholds, evaporation. Burbank’s Artistic Chill:
The City of Burbank is a vibrant hub of artistic expression, and this holiday season Burbank’s Artistic Chill is in the air. As the Media Capital of the World, Burbank is dedicated to enhancing visibility and access to the arts. From local galleries to captivating performances, our City invites you to dive into the world of art and explore the exciting creative arts scene this winter season! You can start your winter art journey by seeking out sculptures or murals at City facilities, in your neighborhood, around town, or at your nearest parks. Some of the public art you see around the City is made possible by the Art In Public Places Program. The Program requires 1% of major construction project costs be allocated towards on-site art or to a public art fund. The Program has made it possible to recognize artists and to enhance public spaces throughout the City with sculptures, murals, and environs. To date, there are over 130 public art installations in Burbank. Furthermore, the City’s Burbank Cultural Arts Commission provides additional expertise to support our diverse art community. The mission of the Commission is to enrich the lives of Burbank residents by celebrating its diverse arts and media community and to promote Burbank as a vibrant and enticing regional arts center. This year, the Commission launched a Community Arts Grant Program to support local artists and art organizations by providing funds ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for diverse and outstanding cultural arts projects. To learn more about this grant, you can visit www.Burbankca.gov/CommunityArtsGrant. As you walk, drive, and bike around Burbank, you can see more of the Commission's work displayed on the beautifully painted utility boxes. The Burbank Arts Beautification Program is an ongoing initiative bringing visual art out of museums and galleries so everyone can enjoy it. This Program has provided 69 uniquely painted utility boxes. An interactive map with each boxes location and artist information can be found at www.Burbankarts.com. While on the site, don’t forget to sign up for the Burbank Arts newsletter and view all upcoming holiday events.
The holidays are the perfect time to celebrate Art, and what better way to celebrate than at this year's Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center Holiday Boutique? The boutique provides a distinct shopping experience for those in search of one-of-a-kind holiday gifts. From pottery and jewelry to paintings and tree ornaments, there is something for everyone. Learn more about this year's boutique on page 12! You never know what hand-crafted wonder you will find. Throughout the year, the Center provides a creative space for residents seeking art classes, rotating monthly gallery exhibits, and artist workshops. The walls of the Center are adorned with beautiful artwork year-round, but they truly come alive during the holiday season. If you are still looking for holiday gifts or a sweet treat, a stop by the Cultural Arts Market is a must. The Market is located on San Fernando Blvd and Palm Ave in Downtown Burbank on Friday & Saturday nights only from 5PM-9:30PM. The delightful smell of the local food and the captivating crafts and fashion will keep you coming back for more every weekend.

The Visit Burbank website provides access to priceless information regarding City attractions, dining, events, and art! But did you know that Burbank is also alive with trendsetting murals in all shapes and sizes? You can continue your art journey by viewing the online map showing the 41 mural locations throughout the City. Once your exciting mural journey comes to an end, you can’t forget to visit one of Burbank's newest statues, Wonder Woman. The Burbank Center Stage facility located at 555 N. Third Street is a must-visit for those who enjoy live performances. As the home of The Colony Theater Company, this dynamic space has hosted countless plays and musical performances.
