HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, we made it through 2022! There were many challenges throughout the year but we pulled through. Let’s begin the new year with a positive mindset. We encourage you to be HAPPY this new year. It may not be easy for some of us, but we must make that choice. We here at Joslyn and Tuttle are here to help you be happy. We have plenty of activities, programs, and events going on throughout the year. We would love for you to join us.

Speaking of new activities and programs, we have a few changes at Joslyn that we are excited to share with you:

NEW - Table Tennis: Wednesdays 4:30pm-7:30pm

NEW TIME - Shao Chi w/ Harry: Thursdays 11:15pm-12:00pm

NEW - Chair Yoga w/ Kylee: Thursdays 3:15pm-4:30pm

NEW - Tai Chi w Chris & John: Fridays: 10:00am-11:00am

We would like to thank everyone that participated in our survey. Our goal with the survey is to see how we can meet the community’s needs and what more we can provide. We have already started making changes based on the survey. Many of you requested more exercise classes. As mentioned, we will have a few new classes starting this month. We hope to have new classes starting in February also.

If you have trouble keeping resolutions, try making it a goal instead. The problem with a resolution is that expectations for the drastic changes are often set too high. Many get discouraged when they don’t get the results they desire instantly. So rather than having a resolution, lets make it about new goals. Stop by Joslyn and add your goal to our wall.

Have a great start to 2023 everyone!

TAI CHI WITH CHRIS AND JOHN

Tuesdays and Fridays at Joslyn (Outdoors) 10:00am-11:00am

Tai chi is a system of exercise developed in ancient China. Technically, a martial art, tai chi’s low-impact style will benefit anyone’s health regardless of age or physical ability. Tai chi enhances one’s balance, agility, joint and muscle strength. Also, increased oxygen in the blood heals the body, restores the immune system, and decreases stress. It may reduce chronic symptoms too. Tai chi’s slow motion dance enhances memory and concentration. Instructors, Chris and John believe in ‘no pain, lots of gain.’ All are welcome to their Tuesday and Friday morning class. Wear comfortable clothing.

Being Active - ANYWHERE!!!

Being physically active is much easier than you thought possible. There’s no need to join an expensive health club or to spend hours doing exercises you hate. You don’t even have to change your clothes! Best of all, you can get fit ANYWHERE - ANYTIME of day!

WHY make physical activity part of your day?

ENJOY the pleasure that comes from getting stronger and healthier.

BOOST your brainpower and your energy levels all day long.

IMPROVE your strength and endurance (both physical and mental).

ENHANCE your natural good looks from the inside out. PROTECT yourself from the pain of heart disease, cancer, and osteoporosis.

WHAT activities are the healthiest choices?

For overall health, your best bet is to enjoy a wide variety of physical activities. Just follow the 30-10-5 rule: at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, at least 10 minutes at a time, at least 5 days a week. For best results, give your body what it deserves.

Fun activities - because they are the ones that you’ll stick with!

Aerobic activities - that get your heart pumping, like brisk walking or dancing.

Body-shaping activities - to maintain muscles, like lifting weights or groceries. Stretching activities - for flexibility and tone, like water aerobics or gardening.

Balance activities - to strengthen bones and prevent falls, like yoga or bike riding.

HOW can I make activity part of every day?

With a few simple guidelines, you can make physical activity an integral part of you day even with a hectic schedule. Look for all the easy ways to fit fitness into your life.

Play more: Feel like a kid again by riding a bike, playing ball, or flying a kite.

Use leg power: Walk the dog; walk to the store; walk around the mall; just walk.

Hide the remote: Change the channels the oldfashioned way - by getting up!

Practice inefficiency: Make multiple trips on the stairs or to the car for groceries.

Pick up the pace: Use a longer stride when you walkeverywhere, all the time.

We want to thank Harry for these helpful tips.
