IS KEY CLUB BENEFICIAL FOR STUDENTS?
Excerpt by Carson Hudak"Is Key Club beneficial for students?
Short answer, yes! Long answer, community service has been proven to teach people beneficial lessons and it helps them acquire skills necessary for life Personally my leadership, communication skills, dependability, time management, and decision making have improved greatly since joining the club. These skills help students in almost any aspect of their life from schoolwork to getting a job
Another incentive is that service looks very attractive on resumes and college applications! It greatly displays selflessness, commitment, and generosity. People who earn a lot of community service hours also develop a good sense of empathy as it brings you into the real world in a very hands on way. It shows us that we don't all live the same way. Seeing the demographic differences in our community makes us better appreciate what we have and try to share with others. The most important lesson we learn from this is that we should always help people who need it.

I’ve been a Key Club member since my freshman year at Burleson, and a Key Club officer since my Sophomore year. It would be an understatement to say that I’ve loved this club. I’m very thankful for my friend recruiting me, even though I had no knowledge of the club before Key Club has helped me fulfill my passion for service and caring for others.
Volunteering has always had a special place in my heart. Joining this club has given me more opportunities than ever before. Getting to know my community and understanding what they need has made me feel very close to them. Meeting new people through the T O meetings, and local volunteer work has widened my perspective on many things. Being the treasurer of my club has also taught me many valuable lessons. In 2020, at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, I remember the club attending a protest and handing out fans and snacks.
My mom and I went together and I’ll never forget the efforts our club went through to serve in any way we could. We spent hundreds of dollars on school supplies and raised hundreds for Children’s Miracle Network. One of my favorite annual projects was Trick or Treating for UNICEF especially because Halloween is my favorite holiday! We made crafts one year when it went virtual but last year we went door to door and I had a blast.
I will always remember Key Club and what it has taught me. Caring is our way of life and I make sure in GSA, where I’m the founding president, to show that care to all of its members. I have learned so many things and can’t wait to continue until the end of my senior year, and to recruit new members.

Burleson HS Key Club has a Miracle Minute at every pep rally to raise funds for CMN. Contact your local CMN hospital and invite a representative to a meeting to share ideas and create a partnership.
For decades Key Clubs have worked with March of Dimes to impact the lives of babies and mothers everywhere. We continue that tradition in holding multiple fundraisers a year to combat the crisis of preterm birth.
